Osprey Talon 22-Litre Backpack

Osprey Talon 22-Litre BackpackI received this pack as a gift (from my Amazon wishlist). I own the Talon 44 and use it for overnight backpacking trips. I needed a smaller pack for my bike commute and day hikes. Osprey has a long reputation for making quality packs, and their unconditional lifetime warranty can't be beat.

On to the Talon 22: My first impression after opening the pack was that the build quality feels really solid. The material is lightweight, but has a nice amount of stretch which should prevent most snags. The main interior compartment is very roomy, and I like that the hydration pouch is separate. This will help keep stuff inside dry and free from condensation from your bladder. For commuting I am carrying a macbook air, a notebook, a folder, my lunch and sometimes a change of clothes. There is more than enough room for these items, plus a 2 liter bladder.

Pros:

Helmet holder (also works great for a nalgene bottle)

Nice material

High quality stitching

Lots of adjustment

Airscape back allows for great air flow

Top access zipper compartment for small loose items.

Cons:

A bit expensive for a day pack, but the lifetime warranty and quality make up for it

Would like one or two more small zippered pockets

Overall: I would highly recommend this pack for commuting or day hikes. Outstanding quality, comfortable fit (6'1", 210 lb)

I use this for sport climbing to carry my Petzl Elios helmet (using the LidLock), 12-14 quick draws in the top pocket, a 70m 9.4mm rope in the main compartment (with a first aid kit in the Velcro pouch), along with a 3L water reservoir. You can fold back the waist pockets to keep them out of the way and to store a few smaller items such as wallet and cellphone. I hook my shoes and harness along with chalk bag to the top loop. I carry my Kindle with guidebooks in the small pouch on the outside. I don't usually pack much food on my climbing trips, but you could squeeze in a few protein bars or trail mix. It is amazing a pack this small can fit so much. In total, this bag has been able to handle 20-30 lbs of gear comfortably, with a small load it can pack very small. I have an Osprey Atmos 65 for backpacking, and this bag is a perfect compliment to it for single day adventures.

By all rights this should be a five star review. This pack is really well-designed and looks beautiful. I just bought it a week ago so it's hard to say how it will wear but as far as I can tell I'm going to be really happy with it.

EXCEPT.... on the second day of use I pulled the Lidlock clip out a bit and the Lidlock cord just straight up fell out. It basically tore off and just pulled all the way out of the side that was attached to the backpack.

This really bummed me out. Not because I actually even needed the Lidlock (I was just looking at it). But if this cord tore out with a quick pull (and not a hard pull), what other aspects of this pack are defective?

I paid a lot of money for this pack with the expectation that it was high quality. Now I'm not so sure.

I know that the best of products will have a defect from time to time and I know I can get this repaired for free. But to have a defect right off the bat was just kind of a bummer.

I hope to have the opportunity to leave a five star review for an Osprey pack some day as, so far, this pack is otherwise really fantastic.

******* UPDATE (12/13/2011) Five months later and the pack has been put to a LOT of use and has been excellent! No other defects, very well-designed. I am changing from three stars to four stars.

Nice backpack overall, with a few awkward design points. It is highly adjustable and comfortable overall. I am 5'8" and the M/L is probably just a touch big; but I also tried on the Small, and it was just way too small. But a t my height, I have to really cinch down a lot of straps, so have straps flapping all over the place. Some of the straps loop about, so they end up becoming an irritation on my arm as I walk and hike. These looped straps need to be tucked somewhere, but they always end up popping back out. I have resorted to using chip clips to keep them down. The second issue is the bottom of the pack and the way it droops down if you put something like a book of Kindle in it. The bottom of the pack is loose fabric, so putting anything somewhat heavy at the bottom means that the bottom of the back then protrudes past the waist belt and ends up running on the small of your back below the pack's waist belt. I remedied this by putting soft stuff on the bottom, and things like a book on top of that. Thirdly, the pack has no rigidity at all, so it kind of bends and bows if you do not pack and cinch it right. This means it can bend away from your mid-back area, or it has also has a tendency for me to lean back and bow/fold in the middle, especially since I cannot put heavier items on the bottom per my previous comment. Fourth, it is very difficult to reach the water bottle pocket. I find that I have to remove the pack every time I want to access my water. Finally, the zippered waist pouches on the belt are located a little too far to the side. If you out a small camera or anything else with bulk in there, the pocket tends to rub up against your arms. Still, the pack is well-designed and streamlined overall. I like the features better than some others I looked at when making my decision on a day pack. It's a good choice overall. Zippers are solid; there is a handy mesh pouch at the top of in the main compartment; the top zippered compartment is spacious; and the pouches on the belt are nice but not placed very well. More challenging to cinch this pack down, but it is adequate. I like the bike helmet clasp; and it will hold your hiking pole. Still recommend despite some of the shortcomings.

I'm currently using this backpack as a student bike-commuter. I bike about 20 minutes to campus everyday, and I wanted something that wouldn't have my back drenched in sweat when I get to my destination. I really debated hard between this and other backpacks that claim this "back air space" for this purpose. I am very satisfied with this one! In addition, I think the style is great. I've gotten complements as well.

I would say the size is a bit awkward for a student backpack the volume is great, but its volume is vertical not horizontal, but it does fit my macbook laptop plus a couple books. I also use this bag to do my grocery (Trader Joe runs). I can fit a full basket into it (assuming the sizes are not too awkward). BUT even if all my grocery doesn't fit inside the backpack, it has a clip on the top where I clip my plastic bags I've done it more than 8 times and it hasn't failed yet! Thats where I put vegetables or fruit that didnt fit inside the bag. Keep in mind I just bike to and from the grocery store, so I can't really hold on to anything. So this says a lot about the backpack's capability.

I like the straps (waist and chest), but in the beginning it looked like they were a lot of straps. It takes a little bit of ingenuity to wrap them up and make them look tidy, so as not to look like there are 100 straps (so play around with when you first buy it, but some people actually like the "strappy" look). I like the waist pockets too! I put my wallet there, and its really reliable for quick access. I have not used the hydration packet, but maybe when I do more serious hikes.

So so far I've used this for a month now as a student backpack, and I highly recommend it!

One downside: so sure not everything in life is perfect. Its not as waterproof as I thought, but you can buy the watercover, which is separate. But it doesn't rain much in LA, so it hasn't been an issue for me. But when I go for hikes, perhaps it would be smart to get a water cover.

I am very impressed with Osprey!

JanSport Adventure Series Fifth Ave Waist Pack

Jansport Fifth Ave Waist Packalright..have not used a fanny pack since the 80's and believe me my partner and friends wish i kept it that way! but i lost my wallet for the last time and i decided to strap this bad boy to my carcus and go on my way...i love this jansport...bought the wrong color and decided to buy another without returning the mistake...got a pink one and blue and gray one...fits my large waist just fine! could accomodate a waist up to 45 inches is my guess...got that outdoorsy, hip, not too rockclimbery look..lets make the fanny pack cool again..talk about retro

HELL of a bargain great for dog walking outings as well....

I purchased this for my daily use, since I need a place to put my keys (a big bunch) and my wallet.

The layout is good a front pocket and a main pocket, however, I hope it will have one more small pocket on the back. The size is a little large for everyday carry on.

The main complaint is that the quality is not good. The binder ring for the belt became so loose after few days and the belt would dangle around your waist easily. I will return this to Amazon for sure.

I had a eagle creek waist pack and it lasted for three years much better quality control.

Very sturdy, holds a lot of stuff. Strong zippers. Easy to adjust waist strap.I highly recommend it.

This fanny pack was great for a vacation trip it's big enough to hold a camera, cell phone and some cards & cash. For the price, it can't be beat.

I don't like "fanny packs", "bum bags" or any of those lumbar packs that are used by hikers and tourists. I bought this little bag to hold my keys, wallet and cell phone when riding my motorcycle because my motorcycle clothing has very little to no effective storage space. Everything is tight and bulging items impede my range of motion. This fit the bill perfectly and the price was right.

Fascinating Peacock Tablet Netbook Laptop Sleeve Slip Case Pouch Bag for Apple iPad 1 iPad 2 / Acer

Fascinating Peacock Tablet Netbook Laptop Sleeve Slip Case Pouch Bag for Apple iPad 1 iPad 2 / Acer ASUS Dell HP Sony ToshibaI got this sleeve around Christmas for my new netbook. About two weeks after receiving it the zipper seam started to fray, now two months later the zipper is completely broken. My netbook was stuck inside the case until I pulled the zipper's pull tab completely off and had to open the zipper by hand. I'm very disappointed and now I have to find a new case to keep my netbook safe.

This case is beautiful! I absolutely love it. The colors are vibrant and the zipper is durable and works well. My iPad in its protective case fits in perfectly. I close my stylus in with it as well. fantastic price for a beautiful and functional case.

This cover, like any other, does its job, but has style! As stated in some other reviews (seen under the bigger sized version) it does have a rubber smell to it, but it isn't overpowering and should dissipate in a few days. Colors are as vivid as in the picture, and overall has an attractive appearance! You will not be disappointed.

Very pretty, but only lasted a couple of months with light use. Zipper broke, then handle fell off and it started unraveling. I expect things to last a ittle longer!

Vagabond Traveler C.E.O. Heavy Duty Classic Leather Briefcase/Backpack Tote 16" L02

V.T. C.E.O. Heavy Duty Classic Leather Briefcase/Backpack Tote L02 Distress ReddishThis is one heck of a bag! The quality and craftsmanship are superb. The materials are top-notch. When you open the main flap and observe the quality of the leather, you are amazed at the thickness of the hides, and recognize that this bag will last for many, many years. My 15.5" laptop fits in perfectly. The middle compartment has thick, leather half-round "bumpers" stitched into the sides and bottom to protect the computer if it is bumped or dropped. Make sure that your laptop will fit the bumpers will not compress much if you have a larger machine. If you have a widescreen laptop >16", this bag is probably not for you. Verify measurements. Plenty of storage for pens, cards, papers, power supply, cords, medicine, mouse...you name it. Shoulder strap is long and comfortable. Backstraps (for use as a backback) seem to be a novelty, but they function fine (who would wear this as a backpack??) Quality, quality, quality! Wine red finish is beautiful and classy. Other finishes, given the quality of leathers, must be stunning, and would likely wear like a fine leather jacket. Long was a pleasure to deal with excellent communication, helpful, and quick shipping. (Can you tell that I am loving my new briefcase???) A great buy for a great product. Thank you!

This bag is a must for anyone looking for a leather case. It is sturdy and looks great. Leaves color residue in the beginning so break it in carefully. Nothing that stains though, and not bad enough that I would take a star away.

This. This is a serious bag. If you've had a dozen bags in as many years because they've broken, worn out, or been otherwise insufficient, you've finally landed on the right one. As others have said, the quality of materials and craftsmanship is outstanding. The design is relatively simple, with very few details though it has enough subtlety to be useful for those rare occasions when you're not riding a bucking bronco or patrolling the frontier, like pen holders and a clasp for your keys favoring instead a design and materials that will not rip or break or malfunction. Big chunky buckles, thick straps, solid chrome studs.

The only possible drawback compared to some other bags (but not compared to Saddlebacks, as someone also said), is the weight. It weighs at least as much empty as your messenger bag or lightweight briefcase weighs fully loaded. It also smells intensely of leather for a while enough to fill up a small office but for some that'll be a plus. Indeed, when your officemates smell you coming around the corner, and then see the massive neck you've developed from wearing this thing every day, they'll know you're not a man to be trifled with. They will talk about you and invite you to their parties, which you'll graciously turn down with a squinting gaze to the horizon. "No," you'll say, chewing on a straw from Starbucks as if it were a stalk of wheat, "I wish I could, but there are some things a man just can't run away from." You'll tip your hat and walk away, and they will stare at this bag on your back with wide eyes and slackened jaws. And so the legend begins...

Wow, just wow.

I had been browsing around some other briefcases before discovering Vagabond Traveler. I'm one year out of college and needed something to hold all my stuff like anyone else, but I wanted something with swagger. The bag I had(some cheap Solo bag) broke; cheap quality bags will do that, hell even other bags do that. I decided to up my game a little and spend my money on what I assume is a smaller, classier company.

Just got the bag today and I'm blown away. This bag will last a few generations in my eventual family, but I'd rather it be buried with me. Me and this briefcase are going to go through a lot together. He, who I have named Ted, will be there for me in times of need, I will cover him in the rain, etc.

It's big but fits my 15inch Mac perfectly and then some. I could probably pack about 3-4 laptops within the inside. The backpack straps are great if you ride a bike, or if you have a lot in it since it is rather heavy already. I should also mention I'm 5'10 at average weight, and the bag is a little disproportionate with my frame but the quality of leather, stitching and chrome buckles are worth 2 out of 10 girls laughing. The other 8 will want to pay for dinner.

The previous reviews were very helpful to me and the pictures didn't do the bag justice. Even nicer when you see it in person. Love the quality and construction. It is a heavier bag so make sure you consider this when purchasing. It is definitely a quality, durable product that should last.

Dakine Girls Prom Pack

DaKine Prom Backpack - CrochetThis backpack is wonderful! I can fit all of my schoolbooks, laptop, and lunch in here without any problem. The straps are comfortable and pull my shoulders back when I walk so the heavy load doesn't hurt to carry around. The design is especially cute, it's feminine and pretty while not being too flashy. I've gotten lots of compliments on it and would buy it again in a heartbeat!

I carry a lot of stuff to school and this backpack is capable of handling my heavy load and not getting my back to hurt. I carried a laptop, a large textbook, 4 spiral notebooks, a charger, a labcoat, goggles, lunch(sandwich, apple, banana, grapes), 2 water bottles, the usual necessities that i would carry in my purse (wallet, lotion, sanitizer, mirror, etc.), and of course pens and pencils. Yeah I carried all this one day and though the backpack was stuffed, it still did not feel as heavy as I thought it would. Very happy with this backpack!!!!

Buy Dakine Girls Prom Pack Now

DaKine makes a fabulous bag. I took this on a trip as my "personal carryon" item. It easily packed everything I wanted mid-flight. I also use the bag everyday for work and school. The laptop compartment easily holds my 15 in MacBook Pro. I wish it had a little more padding, but it is sufficient as long as I don't throw it with my MB in it. It has ample pockets and keeps everything organized in a functional way. It has fuzzy lined pockets that hold my Oakley shades and iPhone. I don't use the "cooler pocket" to carry food but rather an additional space to stash things I keep with me. The only complaint I have is the lack of places to keep my cables. I ended up buying a matching accessory case and keep my cables and other small accessories in it. It matches so it's discrete.

I also like the small zippered pocket behind the pen storage. It makes a great pocket to stash a flash drive or set of keys, but could easily hold more. The front outside pocket is very deep and I feel I can keep things in it without worrying they are going to fall out in transit. I also like the expandable water bottle pocket. I don't always have a bottle with me, but used it for the trip to make boarding the plane easier.

Out of all of the other DaKine bags I considered, I am happy I chose this one. It has met all of my needs for a small, fashionable, functional bag that holds everything I need.

First of all, let me say that dakine makes the best backpacks ever!! My son has used the same backpack for the last three years and it holds up like no other ive ever seen. This is my daughters third one. Her others are still in perfect condition so she can switch them out whenever she needs a change. (She's a girl! Ha) This design is adorable. The colors are great. She loves it and it is perfect for everything she carries. Dakine fan for life!!

I bought this backpack for school in September and the shipping was fast and I got the backpack just in time for school. I bought this backpack in Navy/Vivienne Plaid and i just have to say that the pattern is even cuter in person! I'm in the eighth grade and I have a locker, but I barely use it because I can fit all of my stuff in this backpack!

This backpack has one big pocket with a padded laptop sleeve that I use to put my gym clothes in. I can fit 4 one subject notebooks, 4 folders, a binder, and a one 3 subject notebook in this main pocket, along with a book for my English class. So pretty roomy if you ask me!

Then, there are two pockets on the side, where you can put your water bottle in. I personally don't use the pockets.

There are also two more pockets. One of them, I put pencils and pens in. I usually leave the other one empty. It's a cooler pocket but I don't use it.

There's one more pocket at the top of the backpack. If you have glasses then this is a pretty good spot for it. I leave my phone in it and I can be sure that it'll be safe since the pocket happens to be plush lined. It's a smart idea to keep your valuables here.

Now, here's my favorite thing about this backpack: The shoulder straps are padded! I used to have a Jansport backpack that was very uncomfortable for my shoulders. This backpack is very comfortable and even if I have a lot of stuff in my backpack the weight is evenly distributed to each shoulder and I just love it! If you're looking for a cute, roomy, and comfy backpack then this is the backpack for you!

Belkin 15.4" Quilted Laptop Carry Case

Belkin 15.4-Inch Quilted Carry CaseThis case is great for storing a laptop. However, the strap could be more secure. The clasps used to attach it to the case can open without warning. I had mine on my shoulder, when all of a sudden, my laptop hit the pavement...now there's a crack in my screen and dent on the corner where it hit. Not the best case for long-term use...really disappointing.

When I first received this bag I was ecstatic-super light, padded but slim, and understated. However, after using for only 2 weeks the strap completely broke! As another reviewer mentioned, the strap is pretty flimsy. The stitching keeping the loop together around the clasp was really poorly done and while my macbook pro is heavier than other laptops, it's not enough so to rip the stitches out. I hope this was just a malfunction with my bag because otherwise it was great!

Kata KT D-3N1-22 3 In 1 Sling /Backpack with Laptop Slot

Kata KT D-3N1-22 3 In 1 Sling /Backpack with Laptop SlotI've been more than happy with my Amazon-purchased Ape Case camera bag (medium) -a great value and a terrific bag. It's a workhorse that still looks new after two years.

But I've wanted a backpack camera bag. Shopping around, I kept coming back to the Kata 3N1 for its versatility: regular backpack, left or right sling with quick access on either side, and criss-cross to go from backpack to sling in seconds.

But which one? The 20 or the 30? I didn't need the netbook / laptop compartment, since I don't plan to tote one. The 30 sounded a bit large.

I ordered the 20, then changed my mind and chose the 22 -WITH the netbook compartment. Because I realized I would use it for manuals and bounce cards. And maybe a netbook, if I like . . .

The Kata 3N1 22 arrived in four days and it's been everything I hoped. Beautifully designed and constructed; high quality; amazing in operation.

Right away, out of curiosity, I wanted to see how I could configure it and load it up. Here it is, packed, at 14 pounds. (3 of those are the bag, so that's 11 pounds of gear in a deceptively compact and comfortable backpack.)

UPPER COMPARTMENT

580 EX II Speedlite (in its case, with stand)

430 EX II Speedlite (in its case, with stand)

8 spare AA batteries for Speedlites

Cables

Microfibre cloths

Lens caps

RIGHT EXTERIOR POUCH

Second Canon camera battery

Canon battery wall charger

LEFT EXTERIOR POUCH

Polarizing and other filters

MAIN COMPARTMENT

Canon 40D

Tamron 70-300mm and reversed hood (on camera)

Canon 50mm 1.8 prime (hood separate)

Canon 28-135mm (hood reversed)

Tamron 17-35mm (hood separate)

Tamron 28-200mm (hood reversed)

2-pc Vivitar wireless remote (in mesh pouch, not included)

3pc Cowboy wireless Speedlite triggers (in mesh pouch, not included)

Rain cover in pouch

Media kit -with extra compact flash cards

NETBOOK COMPARTMENT

"A Better Bounce Card" Bounce Cards

Manuals

And there's still room for a card reader, binoculars, LED flashlight, small miscellaneous items.

Will I walk around every day with it loaded like that? Probably not. Then again, why not? Leaving out a couple or three lenses and one Speedlite doesn't reduce the weight by THAT much. (Though it's an amazingly comfortable everyday run-around backpack / sling if I leave a few items at home.)

All I have to do is sling my tripod (in its case) and light stand / umbrella (in their case) over my shoulder, or hand carry them, and go. An easily portable highly versatile studio for locations.

Does the 3N1 system really work? And how!

I have had none of the problems a few others have mentioned. I'm 6', 200 lbs, 42" waist. The adjustable waistband fits me fine, with inches to spare.

Yes, wearing it as a regular backpack is the most comfortable over time, as everybody mentions.

But the criss-cross position is almost equally comfortable, with the advantage of instantly converting to a sling. I don't feel "choked" by the straps at my neck, as a few have mentioned. Yes, I adjust them more often because of the configuration. But I don't mind, having the option to instantly go to a sling.

The adjustable padding on the straps is comfortable and effective. The quick-release buckles are strong yet easy to fasten or open. Yes, you really CAN pull the side flap open with one hand and grab your camera from the bag on the fly. The zippers are heavy-duty but smooth.

Sling position (I'm right-handed) works as advertised, with rapid access to my camera without opening the main bag, plus the stabilizing factor of resting my elbows on the bag, now slung around and lying across my front, while shooting.

Sturdy, solid protection for all that gear, plus a rain cover if needed. And yes, I'm glad to have the netbook compartment. I knew I'd use it and it's worth the extra $20.

Now that I've seen how MUCH gear I can pack, it's a daily exercise to decide what I really WON'T need when I go out, and enjoy this versatile backpack / sling at its lightest and for all it's worth. Because it's so brilliantly sized and configured that, backpack or sling, it doesn't feel clumsy or oversized at all, as you use it.

Of course, you're carrying as much as 14 pounds of gear or more in this seemingly compact case -so it's not like toting an iPhone in your pocket. You feel it. The trick is HOW and how much you might be strained by the extra weight.

The Kata 3N1 22 distributes the weight perfectly and is hands down and fully loaded the most comfortable backpack I've ever worn. You can even use it as an ordinary backpack if you like. The padded partition separating the upper from the main compartment unzips to create one large interior space (by removing the remaining velcro-strapped padded dividers).

I'm impressed. This is an organically designed ergonomic camera equipment transport-protection system that can literally change from day to day, or hour to hour, according to your personal / professional needs and schedule. Priced as well as it is designed and constructed.

Great job, Kata.

I gave this pack a five star rating because it is well made, well designed, roomy, and works the way it is intended. But even with all that being said, I have returned the bag. It's simply too big for me. That's why I'm reviewing it I want to give some fair warning to potential purchasers.

I'm a photo enthusiast and I take my camera nearly everywhere. If you're like me, you're obsessing over this bag purchase, looking at all of them and trying to choose the one that works best for you. I bought this bag thinking it would be nice to have plenty of space to hold all my gear. And it does just that. I have a Canon 40D, two telephoto lenses and a short prime lense. Add to that all the usual stuff you need to own battery pack, cleaning supplies, a few filters, and spare SD cards. It all fits in the bag with room to spare for my passport, sunglasses, wallet items, even a snack and a bottle of water. It's comfortable, secure, has a waste strap for support, and the quick side opening works well. I got the one with the laptop compartment and my netbook fits in it just fine.

But the thing is just too darned big! I feel like I'm shouting TOURIST!! It sticks way up on my back and looks silly. If I use it in the criss-cross configuration, it crosses over my breasts and makes them look like Zena the Princess Warrior. I can get the side opening to work using the backpack configuration, but it's not as stable. And it's so bulky that it feels a bit unwieldy.

Finally, carrying all that stuff around made me realize that doing so is not really necessary. Do I really need to carry all three of my lenses and all my cards, filters, and gear on an outing? It makes for a heavy pack, and unless you're a pro, or a very serious ameteur, I just don't see it being necessary to take it all with me. I traded down for a lowepro fastpack 100, and I'll post a review when I've had a chance to go over it. But it looks like I'll be able to carry my camera, one spare lense and all the other accessories I need just fine. The pack is smaller, more streamlined looking, and weighs less.

I gave this item a great rating because it is a beautiful product. Quality materials, light color inside so you can see what's inside well, and lots of thought put into what a camera user needs. And I LOVE the fast access side set-up. I didn't think it would be fair to rate it down because it didn't suit my needs. But non-pros should know that it's big enough to carry a fair amount -if not allof what you own, and if you want to do that, then this bag will suit your needs. But if you want to carry your camera, maybe a spare lense, battery and SD card with plenty of room left for a sack lunch, this is overkill.

I researched for several months to find a sling bag that would be large enough to carry my D700, 3 lenses (1 of which is a larger ultrawide zoom), and various other peripherals when I travel, that would *magically* shrink to a manageable size for day hikes and around-town shooting. With exception to the Kata, I was able to examine the usual suspects in person at a local electronics superstore. The bags were either too small or too big, and none offered the flexible sling / back pack option, so I decided to take a leap of faith and order a Kata. I was leaning towards the 10, however, based on other reviews, I decided the medium size would be required to accomodate my kit. I ordered the Kata KT D-3N1-22 3 In 1 Sling /Backpack with Laptop Slot so I could tote my iPad2 as well.

I received the bag quickly and was immediately concerned about the size. I decided to give it a try anyway. With room to spare, I was able to load it up with the kit mentioned above as well as my iPad, wallet, various cleaning gadgets and a few more odds and ends one would expect to carry on a day trip. I struggled with the size of the bag on my frame all day. The back pack configuration worked a little better, but the bag itself is so long. it would not sit comfortably on my tiny frame in any configuration. It also stuck out way farther than I liked. Even on my husband, who is 5'9", the profile was freakishly large.

I give this bag four stars because the quality is top-notch, and the over-all functionality is great. I just wish it had a drnk holder, as mentioned by most others. Despite the size, i was easily able to access my equipment and swap lenses without the need for placing the bag on the ground. I am going to exchange this bag for the Kata KT D-3N1-10 Sling/Backpack (Black) in hopes that it is more suited to my needs. I will update my review upon receipt of that bag.

8/17/2011 UPDATE: Received the Kata KT D-3N1-10 Sling/Backpack (Black) and love it. It's more suited to someone small like me, and with exception to my iPad, fits everything the Kata KT D-3N1-22 3 In 1 Sling /Backpack with Laptop Slot held. I am very pleased with my exchange.

This bag is fantastic. It is good looking, flexible, well organized, and sturdy. I travel worldwide, year round. I am a road warrior. I needed a bag for carry on purposes that I could also use while doing day hikes, take to the office, etc. I carry:

a Nikon D7000 with 2 extra lenses

a macbook air 11 inch

a sony coolpix

two mobile phones

a wifi hotspot

two pouches with cables and wires and chargers

passport and money pouch

rain sleeve

ultralight windbreaker

-Spare batteries

-small spiral paper notebook and pen

I used to have to carry a much larger bag to accommodate these items. But the 3N-22 works perfectly. Its a snug fit, but with all of the pockets and points of access, I can get to everything quickly. It is also sturdy.

The flexible straps work really well. I recently tested these on a mountain biking excursion in China. Used both straps while biking and pulled one to quickly slide the bag towards my chest for easy access to my DSLR. Worked quickly and easily.

My only suggestion for improvement would be for Kata to re-inforce the bottom of the bag with a water proof fabric. I set mine down all of the time, and not always in the driest of places. Otherwise, I would say this is the best bag I have ever owned... And I have tried many.

Lowe Alpine Oxygen ND20 Day Pack

Lowe Alpine Oxygen ND20 Day PackA very well made and well thought out backpack. Has an abundance of storage spaces both large and small. I use it to enable me to backpack my portable liquid oxygen tank, rather than hand-carry. Helps me get me valuable exercise and frees up a hand! Really a superior product, strongly recommend for anyone needing a well designed and made backpack. Well worth the price.

I bought this day pack 3 yrs ago for a trip backpacking through NZ for a few months, and it's also made it through other trips to Honduras and Haiti. The inside lining is starting to wear down now, but I'm just amazed it has lasted through all I've put it through. It's very sturdy, well made, and I couldn't have asked for a better bag.

Clear PVC Security Backpack, Pink by BAGS FOR LESSTM

Clear PVC Security Backpack, Pink by BAGS FOR LESSTMI ordered two of these. I had to return one immediately because the main zipper wouldn't close. The other lasted light use (1-2 times a week, containing toddler clothes, a book, a small lunch and a water bottle) for about 3 months before its zipper gave out.

Apart from the zipper, the backpack is of decent quality. We didn't see any fraying or tears, and it's easy to clean with a wet rag.

SOLO Vintage 15.4" Laptop Carry All

SOLO Vintage Collection Women's Leather Carryall for Laptops up to 15.6 Inches, Dark Brown, VTA801I bought this bag on sale at an office supply store, not through Amazon. But I love it so much, I wanted to leave a review.

First of all, I've seen this bag being sold online for up to $300, but I paid the same sale price listed here (about $80), which is a great deal because this bag is made of real, quality leather. I never thought I could find something like this in my price range.

The color is "espresso." I actually thought it was black when I bought it, but later realized it is a very rich, dark brown color (hence the name). It looks good with any color outfit, though. The canvas on the inside is blue (not pictured here, but you can find other pictures of the inside online).

This bag is great because of the quality and style, but also because of its utility and durability. The leather exterior ensures that your papers and electronics stay dry in wet weather (This is a big deal to me. My old bag was canvas and in heavy rain my books and papers would always get wet). I've been carrying this daily in NYC for 4 months and so far it looks like new (no scuff marks or water stains from raindrops). I really hope that continues.

Inside there is a lightly padded laptop compartment with a velcro strap to hold it in. This compartment can also be used for papers or books. There are three open vertical pockets that can hold pens, cell phones, ipods, glasses, etc. There is also one zippered pocket along the front lining. The bag is able to hold everything I need without being too bulky. On a daily basis I carry one college sized textbook, a folder of papers, everything that would normally go in a purse (wallet, keys, pens, ipod, tissues, etc.), an umbrella, and a water bottle. I don't always carry my laptop with me, but it does fit with all the other items mentioned (I have a 13' MacBook Air with a small power cord. Anything larger wouldn't fit with all the other stuff.)

I would recommend this bag to anybody with similar needs. It's really a great value! If you are looking for a simple laptop case, this might be a bit too roomy for you. It really is more of a "carryall," as the name indicates.

I ordered several bags at the same time to compare them side by side: this Solo bag plus the Targus TLT004 15.4 Ladies Deluxe Tote and Mobile Edge Ultra TechTote METU01. The Solo bag is a couple of inches shorter and thus smaller capacity overall which initially concerned me, but I found it to have similar usable space, since the space in the other two bags was divided up into several compartments that don't suit my needs, and the extra height is not useful for a 15" laptop and file folders. In the end the other two seemed obnoxiously large. The Solo bag is definitely of richer quality and style; the other two were pretty mundane black laptop bags and did not look terribly sophisticated or stylish. I decided to keep the Solo bag My major concern is how the Solo bag will hold up to scuffs and raindrops, but the leather feels soft and high-quality so I presume regular leather care will keep it in good shape. It is a nice style and would be recommended even if you don't put a laptop in it.

Update: a year or so later, the bag still looks like new. I love it!

Color is a rich dark brown, almost black in some light. Good quality leather exterior and beautiful padded lining with interior pockets. I like that the handles are roomy enough to easily slip over heavy coats and allow the nicely-tapered wedge shape to hang low enough to fit comfortably under your arm. Would make a great gift.

This bag was just what I was looking for. The leather is good quality, it's well balanced and has many zipper pockets along with an all important outside pocket for sliding over a suitcase handles (important to me since I travel a lot). The inside material looks cheap, but for the price it's still a great deal. One thing I did not see mentioned is that this bag carries a "California proposition 65 warning: this product contains chemicals, known to the state of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm. Do not allow children to mouth or chew." The bag is made in China.

Unsure exactly what these products are but I've seen the same warning on other Solo brand bags. I will probably keep the bag but I believe this should be noted before someone decides to order since it might affect their decision.

Based on the bag itself, it's 5 stars outside but I rated it 4 stars because of the inside material. Didn't deduct points for the warning.

Very nice looking bag, definitely looks as noce as it dose in the pic. Strong lining, nice pockets. I could with that the straps were a littel thicker, especially when I have the laptop and a bunch of papers in there, but it does stay on the shoulder quite well and not slip off. My friend has a bag with wider straps, but they are starting to look worn, so maybe the sewn round straps on my bag look better because they are not wide and flat..

15 15.6 inch Pink Butterfly Design Laptop Sleeve Bag Carrying Case with Hidden Handle & Adjustable

15 15.6 inch Pink Butterfly Design Laptop Sleeve Bag Carrying Case with Hidden Handle & Adjustable Shoulder Strap for 14' 15' 15.6' Apple Macbook, Acer, Asus, Dell, Hp, Sony, Toshiba, and MoreThis is a nice product but It's basically just a pretty sleeve for carrying the laptop. It doesn't provide enough space to store the power supply; you'll have to lug that along seperately in your purse, suitcase, etc. Also, it's very thin...don't expect any protection from this bag if you happen to drop your laptop or maybe bump it against a wall. It doesn't provide much padding.

So, to summarize, if you want a very cute, well built, affordable carrying sleeve/fashion accessory for your teenage daughter's laptop, this one is great. But, if you want a "real" laptop case that you can store your power supply/mouse/cable in, and will provide some padding, invest in something a little more expensive...Targus makes a good laptop case.

Bought this for my niece along with a matching mousepad. She really likes the fact that it is waterproof and has the shoulder strap which was lacking from some others. I particularly loved the price and the many design offerings from this company.

JanSport Antics Series Meshenger

JanSport Meshenger BagI bought this bag in pink for my little girl for school. It is a great looking bag, however, it is much larger than I anticipated. It is way too big for my 5 yr old, but I'm keeping it for a good beach bag. It is large enough for me to take to the pool or beach.

My son needed a backpack for school as the one we purchased from Academy (Adidas brand) this past fall fell apart at the seems plus two of the zippers busted. I showed him this one and he gave it two thumbs up. He is 13 and he says that he has heard JanSport makes a durable bag. It arrived Saturday and he was able to put all of his school supplies in it. He really likes the way it looks. It appears sturdy and well-constructed. Time will tell but for now my son and I are both pretty happy with it! The only reason I give it 4 stars as opposed to 5 stars is I would have been happier if this bag had a reinforced bottom.

Mobile Edge SecurePack - 17.3"

Mobile Edge SecurePack 17-Inch BackpackI was desperate to replace my existing notebook bag, a solidly-made but very heavy briefcase with a strap that cut painfully into my shoulder. Although I knew that a backpack was a better solution than a briefcase, I wasn't terribly impressed with what my local Staples and Best Buy had to offer; their backpacks seemed overpriced and poorly designed.

Then I saw the Mobile Edge SecurePack in a PC WORLD print ad. What a lucky break! Although my local stores didn't carry it, I was able to get it through Amazon.com marketplace.

It's rare to find a product that fills a need as elegantly and beautifully as the Secure Pack does.

The elegance is in the way the Secure Pack prevents access to the laptop it contains WITHOUT locks or cables. The backpack can't be opened until it's taken off take it off, then simply reverse the straps over the rear of the pack and unzip it. The "lid" (actually the back) of the pack fans open to about 60 degrees, held open that limited amount by a nylon gusset web on either side. This prevents the laptop sleeve, which is directly attached to the inside of the back/lid, from slamming hard against the ground.

Inside the pack, in addition to the main compartment, there are the laptop sleeve and a second compartment piggybacked together and fanning out to 60 degrees with the same kind of side-gusset webs as the lid/back. The second compartment has a generously-sized, zippered mesh pocket inside, and loops, sleeves, and a small Velcro-flapped pocket outside the better to contain pens, pencils, pads, and other stationery, documents, and extras. The main compartment contains for cable storage two nylon-and-mesh zippered bags (each about the size of a small shaving kit!) with Velcro hook strips on their bottoms; they stick securely to the Velcro loop surface of the main compartment, but are easily detached when needed. In fact, the cable bags are so roomy that I store my webcam and its accessories in one bag, and my laptop power cables, still-camera-battery charger and camera-PC USB connector in the other. With my laptop, a laptop cooling pad, & all those cables stored in the backpack, I STILL have room to shove in a couple of heavy textbooks & zip the pack shut easily!

The SecurePack has two nice extra touches: the CD player pocket (with zipper closure hidden by a forked flap that is in turn held closed by two quick-release buckles along the straps) and the carrying handle that is perfectly set within the yoke of the pack straps (nicely balanced for off-the-shoulders carrying).

All these features, however, mean nothing if the backpack is too uncomfortable to wear for an extended time. After having worn the SecurePack fully loaded for several hours on several occasions, I can confidently say it is the best-balanced backpack I've ever worn: not the best-balanced computer backpack, but simply the BEST-BALANCED backpack of ANY type I've ever used. I don't know how its designers did it, but the fully-loaded SecurePack feels feather-light on my back; all the weight of the load balances beautifully on my hips and doesn't drag me down.

The SecurePack is not a quick-access or compact computer bag, but its name and features make that clear. It is a theft-proof, damage-proof laptop bag at a good price.

To sum up, the SecurePack is a beautifully designed product that fills a long-felt need: how to carry a laptop computer and accessories safely, securely, and without back or shoulder injury. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I really liked the look of this bag. I had been searching for a nice big bag for my 17" laptop. I saw this bag and liked the look. Thought the feature of not being able to open whill on the back was smart. However, I'm a college student and you don't have room for books when the laptop is in the bag. You barely have room without the laptop. It has a rounded bottom which is not condusive to carrying books. It is akward to get into from the back of the bag. Going from class to class, I have to get in and out of my bag all the time. It was too cumbersome with this bag. Really nice looking big bag though. If all you want is to carry your laptop and a few files this might work. Anything more is just doesn't work. Didn't want to return it. Good looking bag nice and big but not very functional

Okay, this was larger than I thought it would be, so I'm having some qualms about bringing this on the plane, since I usually put my bag under the seat in front of me. I'm a short girl, so this bag pretty much conceals my entire back. But I LOVE it nonetheless. It's sturdy, and actually has a lot of space to carry more than the laptop, my wireless mouse, and the adapter. I'm particularly in love with the fact that you can walk around with this bag and not be afraid that someone's already digging into your things.

Great backpack if you're worried about protection.

It even fits my monstrous 10 pounder laptop too.

the problem i have with it is that it is actually a little bigger than i thought it was going to be.

Part of the reason for this i believe is because it has a stiff ridge around it

which protects the laptop from minor bumps, but it makes the bag kindof wide.

Also despite it's medium/large-ish appearance, it really cannot hold much extra if my laptop, charger, and mouse are in there already

(given my charger is about the size of a brick).

It really won't hold much more than a 1 inch binder with all my other stuff.

Still, it's a nice bag if you don't need to carry 50 lbs of books, or whathaveyou.

Want Mobile Edge SecurePack - 17.3" Discount?

I bought this backpack to carry my laptop and a few other items (folders, pens, portable disk, etc.) on my commute to work. I often ride in on my motorcycle, and I wanted a backpack that would be comfortable, secure and protect my laptop. The SecurePack is perfect and meets my needs completely. It's not the largest backpack, and once the laptop, miscellaneous items and my dress pants are in it, it's pretty full. But I can fit everything I need and know it's safe and secure. Construction is also very high quality, and the waist belt keeps the pack nice and secure at highway speeds. I definately recommend the SecurePack for anyone looking for a safe, secure, comfortable laptop backpack.
