Brica By-My-Side Safety Harness Backpack

I got the Brica By-My-Side Safety Harness Backpack the day before I took the kids to a large fair. My daughter (2.5 years) is a runner. She finds something interesting and she will take off to see it. She also thinks it is funny to see mommy running after her and so she will run faster or hide from me not a good combination when in a busy public place. I was at my whits-end when I ordered this.

At first she was very upset that Mommy was holding the leash. She would drop to the ground and refuse to walk with the pack. She even attempted to wiggle out of it which she did get one arm out.

However, once we used it at the fair she actually seemed to enjoy it. I told her that she had a choice of walking but would have to wear the backpack with Mommy holding the leash, or she could ride in a stroller. She chose to walk. We held hands to start, but soon she wanted the freedom and walked along next to me. I used the leash to know where she was. I didn't pull on the leash part unless she really needed to come closer to me and wasn't listening or if I couldn't reach her quickly enough. By the end of the night, she thought it was great fun to lean so that I would hold her upright with the leash while waiting in lines. The backpack came in handy too since the kids were given small trinkets while there and we could just pop them in.

I love that the backpack has a reflective strip on it and that it seems very comfortable for my daughter to wear. The color is cute and she likes it for that reason as well. She calls it her purse. I also love the clips that attach the bag my daughter can slip out of most anything but this was difficult for her to slip out of she had to put a lot of effort into getting one arm out.

The clip that holds the leash moves nicely so that she doesn't get tangled up. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. It is difficult to get a child unaccustomed to wearing one to get used to being limited on where they can go, but I think that when the child is given a choice or when there is sufficient distractions that it can be used and actually enjoyed.

I got it for my 19 months old nephew who likes running away from his mom in public places. He liked it right away and wanted to carry it on his back. Great size bag, adjustable straps, removable leash, has a pocket to hold a sippy cup. I got him also Sunshine Kids Sure Steps Safety Strap at the same time. He didn't want even to put that on. Every time we tried to get him to put it on he cried. The straps of brica are a lot softer than the sunshine kids safety strap.

This is a great, durable backpack for my toddler. The strap hooks on to the bottom so there is no strangling hazard. The fit is good and the size is not too big or bulky. The only thing I was disappointed about is the cup holder, or lack of one. A standard sized sippy or water bottle wouldn't even fit on the side pockets. Not a huge deal, but it would have been nice.

We bought this for my two year old daughter when we went to Disneyland. I was worried that she wouldn't want to keep the backpack on but she loved it. Her older brothers treated her like a dog and made her walk them around but it kept her nearby and in our sight. Yes, it's a leash. Yes, it's dog-like. Yes, I still have my daughter after 3 days in Disneyland. It's worth the emotional scars you think your kid will have but actually won't.

This is a very nice back pack. Wish there was a good place to hide/tuck away the strap when not in use and bag was just a little bigger for regular water bottle but all in all it is very nice. Holds 5 disposable diapers 1 small package of wipes and one change of clothes for a 1 1/2 year old. Don't think I can fit anything else in it after that.
