Built NY makes a very wide variety of cases, bags, and sleeves. Their laptop sleeves typically come in a very wide variety of colors and design patterns on them, ranging from subdued generic black colors to very lively and snazzy multi-colored striping and floral patterns on them. This 17-inch sleeve model likewise comes in various other colors, both with solid colors or with designs on them. I chose this spring green color because, silly me, I wanted to match the color of my 17-inch laptop; now, both my laptop and its sleeve have nearly identical green colors.
This sleeve is made of 5mm-thick neoprene that is both water and stain resistant. It is advertised as being machine-washable, but I have not tried that yet (and I hope to never need a reason to require a full wash-rinse-spin cycle either). The 5mm-thick padding is pretty much the norm these days with most manufacturers of laptop sleeves. Built NY likes to mention their "patent-pending Hourglass Shape" on these sleeve designs. While the narrower midsection of this "Hourglass Shape" serves to hold smaller laptops more firmly and still stretches for larger laptops, I personally would have liked this sleeve more if they just made the sleeve fully wide along the entire length of the sleeve instead of having the sleeve flare out at both ends. My 17-inch Dell laptop has a 6-cell battery that protrudes from its rear, and when I first received this sleeve, it was a very tight fit to slide my laptop in and out of this sleeve. But after several months of usage, the sleeve finally had enough stretch to make it easier to fit my laptop into it without lots of wrestling.
The so-called "Shark Gill Grips" curved indentations in the neoprene of both sides of the sleeve looked like a marketing/style gimmick at first, but these grips are actually quite useful for grabbing a hold of the sleeve with one hand so that you can put this into your briefcase or backpack. Most laptop sleeves do not give you any storage options for carrying accessories. The padding on this sleeve is typical compared to most laptop sleeves it will only protect from minor bumps and knocks, but there is not really sufficient padding to cushion against dropping the sleeve onto a floor. But as with most laptop sleeves, this sleeve is not meant to be carried frequently by itself through airports or carried loosely in your hand while you walk around. If you really want good padded protection and room for carrying accessories, get a laptop case instead of a sleeve.I bought this for my 17" MacBook Pro. The fit is nice and snug, the quality is great, and it looks very good. It's odd that it only has padding for one side, I'm adding a bit more padding. Very good value!
