Modular Field Pack
I opened the box up for this thing, and was a little skeptical at first, the camo pattern I got (MARPAT Woodland) is not an EXACT replica of the pattern, it's a little lighter, but works just as good. There is velcro on the outer MOLLE rows that can easily stick name tapes and callsign tapes. There's a larger velcro patch above the MOLLE for what I'd assume is IR Flags and other identifiers. Inside there are some handy cargo straps that keep whatever you're fitting in this thing held down during transport. There are also buckle straps on the outside to keep it in it's natural form while moving. There IS a large pouch in the inside, which can fit a 3L hydration bladder; there are also little velcro covered holes at the top to feed the drinking tube through! The shoulder straps and kidney pads really do help a lot if you're carring a full load. Overall, I'd say this is a great pack, well worth the money. I had to tell my friends where I got mine so they could pick some up too!I wanted a thinner backpack that would slide into an aircraft ovehead compartment. My 20 year old LLBean had to be constantly crushed down, hit and mangled to fit when fully loaded. Most backpacks have some smaller pouches that make it thicker and hard to mash into a overhead compartment. Your load is wider with this pack with the two side pockets moving your smaller items to the side. This pack fit into the smaller commuter aircraft overhead compartments without two much trouble. Warning, If packed to the brim on the sides it maybe too wide to fit. I placed an ipad type pouch on the top to carry a book/papers and it was still thin enough to mash into the overhead. I am happy with this bag for flying. The only downfall I see, is it only has one large compartment in the center. I have learned to like that too, as you can actually carry more. Two laptops, power supplies, folders, cables, hard drives, fleece jacket and all the other BS was no problem. It has alot of extra straps that I will cut off and a waist belt that I did not attach. It seems it would also be good for a 3 day hiking pack. Quallity seems good, but I have only used it for two weeks and four flights. I like the molle concept, and I have a few pouches that I will move around for different uses. Good carrying handle on top. I would by this again.
