Kelty Grommet 850 Backpack

Kelty Grommet 850 BackpackI bought this backpack for my first grader after her Disney Princess one fell apart at the seams by the end of the school year last year (it had been a gift from Grandma, I'm a firm believer in certain things are worth the extra $$ because they will last alot longer, therefore be cheaper in the long run).

This is the second of these small Kelty backpacks I have purchased. The first was last year when halfway through the school year my then 2nd grader's Tinkerbell backpack disintegrated. The other backpack held up for half the school year, all through the summer and so far this school year with ZERO signs of wear.

Even though my oldest is now in 3rd grade the Kelty backpack fits her perfectly (and she's the tallest girl in her class and taller than most of the boys). We had tried sizing her up with a full size backpack this year, but it seemed a little big and I'd rather have something that fit correctly and better for her back. Therefore there was no handing down of the first purchase and I bought this one for my 1st grader.

I would highly recommend them. They are a perfect fit for the early grades even with several books in them (my 3rd grader has homework every night and brings home around 2 textbooks and 1-3 notebooks in her backpack. She does have to carry her lunchpail because they are not big enough for several books AND lunch). They also hold up really well. I have an adult size that I use as a diaperbacg for the little ones that I have had since High School 13+ years ago. Kelty can take a beating and still stay structurally sound for many many years. So I expect I will be able to hand these two down to my two youngest girls as the older two grow out of them and the young ones start school.

I WAS LOOKING FOR A SMALL BUT DURABLE BACKPACK FOR MY 4 1/2 YEAR OLD TO START KINDERGARTEN WITH.I FOUND THIS ONE AT AN REI STORE AND LOVED IT SO I DECIDED TO CHECK OUT AMAZON AND THEY HAD IT FOR LESS PLUS MY SON LOVED THE COOL BIKER DESIGN.IT IS A PEFECT FIT AND IS ROOMY WITH ONE LARGE ZIPPERED OPENING AND ONE MEDIUM,PLUS TWO SIDE MESH HOLDERS,PERFECT FOR WATER BOTTLES/SNACKS.KELTY MAKES GREAT PRODUCTS...YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED.

My son had been carrying a small Thomas the train backpack when he started kindergarten but it never zipped shut over his proper size binder and lunchbox, and therefore was not very useful. I ordered the Jansport half pint, hoping it would be large enough but not too large for a 5 yr old but it was very very small, definitely either for some adventure other than school or for a doll. I ordered some other one advertized as "good for grade school" but it was sized for a grown up or a teenager. This one is perfect. It holds his binder and lunchbox, has a place for his water bottle, and room to spare. It seems sturdy but we've only had it a day. At least the size is right.

I purchased this backpack for my just-turned-4 year old. It is a little bit too big for her but useable. Haven't put it to any tests but has quality fabrics and seaming. Taseful, no characters... great for the price.

This is a great backpack. My son (5.5 yrs old) loves the additional space it gives him to lug his wares from home to school (kindergarten) and back, plenty of space in the main compartment and the front zippered area. Love that the back zipper doesn't unzip all the way, as it keeps little things from falling out. He is especially happy with the water bottle holder, because it will hold a taller bottle

His previous backpack was also a Kelty, can't remember the name, but it was the same version as this one, but without the larger front pocket. We decided to get him a little larger backpack as he is going to summer camp this year and needs to lug more stuff to the B&GC. His older backpack is still in great shape, wouldn't know that he's been using it almost 2 years. I'm trying to convince him to let me give it away to kids who need a backpack, but he's still attached to it.

It's a great size for kinders, would work well for a few more years as well. I get so many compliments from parents who like that it's kid sized and not all floppy on him. It was also a great price. Can't beat the value for the quality that you get, I wouldn't hesitate to get a Kelty product; they always rate 5 stars in my book.
