Slim Small Shoulder Bag, Fits Most 13-Inch Screens (dp-0521-1)

Slim Small Shoulder Bag, Fits Most 13-Inch ScreensThat's what I was looking for something to carry my iPad plus a folder or thin binder for papers. With eBooks and other wonders of modern technology, that's all I normally need for the classes I teach these days. But dedicated iPad cases are usually too small for a folder or binder (haven't figured out a way to go *totally* paperless), other laptop bags tend to be bigger and bulkier than I want, and simple messenger bags tend to be flimsy and underpadded. I think this bag the "Slim" model, "Small" size nails it. Note the previous reviewer is talking about the "Extra Small" size. I'm sure it probably fits some 11" laptops, if not his/hers in particular. But it is definitely too small for a letter-sized folder or notebook.

Beyond being the perfect size for my needs, the STM Slim/Small also seems very well designed and constructed. The corduroy interior is nice, the exterior pockets useful but unobtrusive. It's almost *too* nice looking, coming off in the "mushroom" color I have as a bit "fem". But that doesn't bother me, and I'm sure black looks "manly" enough :-)

The only thing I'm not crazy about is the strap system. The swivel connectors have a knack for "catching" 180 degrees from where you'd want them, meaning I often have to twist them into position manually when I pick the bag up. And although the canvas strap is nice and wide and the cushioned pad very comfortable, somehow, it doesn't seem to want to stay on my shoulder all that well with or without the pad. I suspect it would be actually better with more weight in it. Anyhow, if anything about the strap eventually gets too much on my nerves, I can easily attach a different strap instead.

Holds 11" Air perfectly. Charger fits nicely into side zipper pocket and my iPad fits nicely into the open pocket on the other side. Great bag for much cheaper then what Incase charges for the same thing.

It's slim and could easily slide into a large tote bag for school, but is sturdy and protective enough to stand on its own. The interior laptop pocket is extremely soft and couldn't possibly scratch anything. The cell phone pocket is perfect for my iphone 5. Love the front pocket. Holds my mouse, external hard drive and power cord perfectly. There's even a little extra room in the main pocket for a little extra, a notebook for instance. I LOVE IT!

I searched Amazon looking for the right bag for my 11" MacBook Air. There are lots of bags for the iPad (too small) and for 13" laptops (too big). I discovered the STM bags, and checked all the dimensions... looked good in the extra small size... and found one nearly half-price AND with free Super Saver Shipping. Just got the bag today, and it's PERFECT: well-designed, neat, and with just enough room for my MBA and its peripherals, my wallet and a few files. I love it already!

I really like this bag from STM. For me it's the right balance between carrying accessories and staying slim. It's clearly a perfect fit for the Macbook Air 11", which you'll know has unusual dimensions if you've tried standard bags or sleeves.

The entire package feels very high quality, and there is enough padding to feel your Air is safe from minor bumps. Both the inside and outside materials look and feel very classy. It is nice and small; some of the photos you'll see advertised with this size are actually the larger versions.

A few small drawbacks:

At the top corners of the laptop compartment even with the main zippers entirely open, the zippers seem to directly touch the Air (see photo). While I haven't noticed any scratches, I do pull the Air out carefully and wish there was something soft in between.

The shoulder strap comes with a thick pad on it, presumably for comfort. Fortunately this is very easily removable by velcro, because I think it is unnecessary and uncomfortable. The pad is very thick and stiff; I found that with the bag fully loaded (at only a few pounds) it simply doesn't weigh enough to even make the pad curve over your shoulder. Instead, it rests awkwardly straight on your shoulder.

The small handles are convenient, but not perfect. They each have a stiff rod sewn into them, which is comfortable while carrying by hand, but when the bag is resting on my back while using the shoulder pad, the rod can rest uncomfortably between me and the bag. I've considered cutting a small slit in the handle to remove at least the rear handle rod, or removing the rear handle entirely, as this bag is never very heavy.

These issues are minor, and I think this bag would really serve most people well.
