Dakine 20-Litre Heli Pro Pack

I bought this backpack a few weeks ago, and it came a day early which was a plus. The backpack I bought for school, and also to use for snowboarding. Its a great school backpack, it will hold my laptop, a few spiral bound notebooks, a couple of text books and it will still have room to spare. The backpack works great for me on the mountain, I can fit a water bladder into the laptop compartment, it will hold a nice size lunch, will fit lots of extra gear, including a tent, and when the board is strapped on it feels like its part of you. Even with all the stuff you pack in it you still can keep your form. The backpack has a heavy duty waterproof material, which should give it a long life span, and the zippers are heavy duty as well. So far this is one of the best backpacks I have owned, the only complaint is that the bright yellow has more of a green tint to it, this is a minor detail.

Backpack looks great, however it is slightly smaller than i expected. Maybe its just me but the measuring by Liters kind of skewed me a little. The bag will work I use it for traveling,,, but I think I will be keepin open eyes for something a little bigger in the main pocket.

Great backpack, what else to say. It even holds my skateboard, I can put my keys into that top little pocket which is supposed to be used for the vertical ski carry strap. Also good for a laptop. And it has quite good back system, feels really comfy to carry and it also feels heavy duty. Happy with the purchase;-)

I bought this pack and thought it has insulated sleeve for water reservoir, i was wrong. However, it is indeed *hydration system compatible* but just wouldn't work for me without the insulated sleeve.

The pack is very roomy and looks like it's quite solid. Lots of pockets for avalanche tools and fleece-lined goggle bag. I ordered color forden and everything matches the pic (so there is front pocket). If you just use the pack without hydration system in backcountry, or use it in a not-so-chilly day with a camelbak omega reservoir (so the tube is already insulated), this is a nice choice.

I have had another Dakine Heli Pro back pack, and it is a fantastic backpack, and very well built. The only negative side is that the 20-Litre size seems a bit small for what the backpack seems to be designed for.

I bought this bag for an overseas trip to Italy. It is an awesome bag. The coffee brown is very stylish. It has great support. The panel between the laptop compartment and back pads has a slightly stiff material that protects and helps to distribute the weight. The quality is excellent and it has tons of compartments to store and organize all of your stuff. Love it!

I ordered this bag after doing lots of research and watching Youtube reviews on various different NorthFace bags. I wanted a bag that had lots of room and lots of storage space.

I finally came on the Surge 2. It has ample room with lots of pockets here and there to put all you needs. I do not think I will use the lap top compartment but you can fit some clothes in there.

I got this book at a steal of 83 and 91 total with tax. It was delivered in 24 hours.

If you want a bag that is nice and big and has a lot of compartment space then I would recommend you get this one.

I bought this case after losing my previous one, and am impressed. I use a 13.3" Toshiba laptop, and it fits perfectly there is no "extra" space, but the snug fit makes me confident that my laptop is well protected. The design is gorgeous, which makes me happy to have it. The zipper actually worried me in the beginning, as I have a bad history with "zippered" products, but it moves easily and appears to be sturdy. Nice padding, too (don't drop the laptop, but it should protect against the occasional dangers in backpacks). I am a college student and this was exactly what I needed.

I must warn you, this case smells in the beginning. I stood it up over an open canister of Baking Soda over a weekend and the smell went away, thus making it nothing to worry about.

Pros: pretty, perfect size, snug fit, will protect laptop

Cons: smells at the beginning, zipper basically only on long side

This is a really neat case, and it works perfectly. The title was the reason I picked this case because I love purple, and sparrows are my favorite bird. However, when it arrived and I looked at it up close, I found out that it was a swallow and not a sparrow. I still love the case, and I would recommend it, but could you please change the description so that it accurately reflects the case?

I purchased the Alps Outdoor Z Commander w/ Freighter frame pack along with a Kelty Cache Hauler. I have to say that this frame is very good quality and strong. I was very pleased and surprised at the quality of the pack. It also has a ton of space.

Compared with the Kelty I listed, the Alps is quite a bit larger. The frame is heavy and the pack solid. The frame is different than the Kelty but with minor differences. The Kelty pack is much heavier fabric and has metal arms to support the pack shelf instead of heavy nylon straps. The Kelty however is quite a bit smaller.

Honestly, If I knew that the quality of the Alps pack and frame were this good, I would have purchased two and saved some coin. The Kelty is $97.00 more than the Alps. I am disapointed with the Kelty. It has a short frame and pack, and it sells for around $220.00

If you want a bunch of room,a well built pack, and a solid frame for packing, at a great price , buy the Alps.

I own a MOLLE II GEN4 Pack, An Eberlestock V90 Battleship, An ILBE MAIN RUCK, a Large Franken-MALICE, A USGI CFP-90. A Camelbak BFM and a Motherlode (and a few others, truth) ... Now ... I am still evaluating these packs and the ILBE was nearly $300, new ... The Eberlestock V90 was $400 (OUCH!) ...

... I honestly cannot guarantee that this pack will meet all of YOUR requirements ... But I am confident that, for the price, it is the FIRST pack you should purchase and evaluate because I could have saved over $800 if I had found this pack BEFORE buying others. The ILBE is "worth it" but is very heavy and is not optimal ... The Eberlestock V90 is just way over-priced and ain't "all that" ... a good pack, but not **THAT** good".

This pack is really two packs in one (BOTH, at the same time, BTW) ... You can strap a large duffle or a 90 (plus) liter kayak dry-bag or even a quartered deer or a full gerry-can or a stack of 5-gallon buckets, using the cargo-shelf, in conjunction with the provided cargo straps. The ruck portion can fold up and out of the way or can be quickly and easily removed. So can the separate accesory "wings", which have pockets for critical gear. There is a dedicated, elastisized retainer-pocket for a rifle butt (along with upper cynch straps) ... This is a really versatile and light-weight pack that even comes with 3 cargo strap extensions.

Cons: Design employs split-rings to retain the mounting and adjustment pins ... Cotter-type spring-pins (with retention-notches) would be much better but are cheap and easy to source. ALSO ... My friend said that HIS Commander frame was overly squeaky and made too much noise ... He said it bugged him. I do not intend to use this pack in a scout-sniper role and I am not noticing anything much worse than full ALICE noise.

I seriously doubt that you will regret this purchase. NO OTHER decent cargo-frame can do so much for anywhere near this price. Truly gives much of the capability of a Kifaru or Mystery-Ranch cargo rig, at a tiny fraction of the cost.

Do this ... You can always drop $400 to $700 to upgrade, later (LoL!).

SPECOPS ? ... You can afford to pay seven times this price ... Go for it !

CLEARLY AND WITHOUT ANY DOUBT, THIS PACK SYSTEM IS WAY SUPERIOR TO MY CFP-90 OR MY MALICE CARGO RIG OR MY MOLLE II GEN4 Packs ... All those systems cost more than this one and I would quickly trade any of those, for this one ... I will keep my Eberlestock V90 and my ILBE, though ... they cost more but they are very good packs ... My Camelback BFM and the Maxpedition Condor II and FALCON II are also quite worthy (but much smaller capacity).

I like to camp and backpack in the wilderness, so I tend to carry a lot of equipment. I did a lot of research looking for a larger, more versital backpack, and once I determined that an external-frame design would meet my needs better than an internal-frame unit, I compared all the models I could find. I selected the ALPS Commander backpack and freighter frame combination. The ALPS beat them all in functionality and features.

First of all, the unit as advertised, is really two products in one. The backpack itself can be removed from the frame and the 'freighter frame' part used to carry firewood or other cargo. The shelf at the bottom is part of that functionality, as well as the side cargo pouches that are part of that configuration. Since, I'm only interested in using it as a backpack I've removed the shelf (to remove weight) and moved the freighter frame pack portion to the outside of the backpack where those storage compartments can be easily accessed. That configuration provides room for more equipment and still provides access to all of the backpack compartments. I stuff it full of equipment and supplies, so it's weighs around 50 lbs. That said, it carries well, and is balanced and comfortable when setup properly.

I prefer an external frame design over an internal one because the frame can be used to strap on additonal pouches and equipment, and the frame protects the backpack when it's in contact with the ground. This keeps the pack from getting wet on damp ground or cut by sharp rocks.

Overall this is a great pack and I'm somewhat surprised it's priced as low as it is when compared to other models available with less capacity.

I was searching for a pack (frame+pack) to serve as the pack for my BOB/SHTF long term all weather survival kit. I have served 10yrs in the Army, so 1 pack to serve as my A+B bag. I have plenty of experience with the MOLLE as I have carried and rucked with one quite a lot, and have heavily modified it over the years to fit my needs, but it has proven to just be too inefficient for my intended use. I have also used the internal frame Field Pack (L), it was even more restricting, unbalanced, and quite frankly too much to purchase.

So upon receiving this, it came decently packed, but in a box that was too big IMO, everything was in order. So I sat down on the couch to get familiar with the pack, adjusting for fit, removing it from the frame and reassembling it. This immediately exposed the first highly needed modification. The cotter pins that hold the pack together have a "spring-loop" much like a key chain that hold the cotter pins. There are 18 of them in total if you want to disassemble the frame. 10 if you want to remove the pack to haul game or wood or what not. If this was attempted in frigid temperatures, I think it would create a big problem once your fingers started loosing dexterity from the cold. I opt to swap out all the of the cotter pins with "lock pins" or "snapper pins" for a quick release method that could be done with gloves on with an added advantage of not having to ever worry about losing one of those "spring-loops". This upgraded cost about $32 to replace all the pins on the bag which is still under the Kelty version of this bag by a large margin!

This is an expedition size pack, there is no getting around that, the frame is large, and it extends vertically with adjustment. When I loaded up this bag which included my Rem 700 30-06, Rug 10/22 Take Down mounted on the opposite side with all my other gear (full gear list to survive for years to include snowshoes) it was 93 lb. This is a lot of weight, but it carried it well, and balanced well. I purposely tested the weight with a 30min walk, and though it was heavy. I didn't have any strange pressure points developing..very good sign! I have not had a chance to field test the bag, but the motto "If you take care of your equipment, it will take care of you" has always stood true with everything I have owned.

I really like the design of the frame, and now going through the process to allow the frame to convert into a sled utilizing the existing cotter holes, so that I can pull my cargo at times (like when there is a significant amount of snow on the ground) rather than carry it. If you've ever pack-carried a field dressed elk out in deep snow, you'd rather pull it than carry it...especially considering the load rating on snowshoes if you have them.

All-in-all, its an excellent pack for the money, and if you're looking for an expedition size pack that is versatile and won't break the bank, consider this one!

I spent a good amount of time researching backpacks for camping and kept going back and forth between internal/external frame, different makes/models... all depending on the price. I didn't want to spend over $70ish but after looking more into the ALPS Commander (reading reviews, watched a youtube video of a guy unboxing it etc) & mostly being able to load up my rifle plus the frame aspect of having a tray that could be used in bunch of different ways, I said okay.. and bought it. First of all, it arrived very quick (2days cause I signed up for Amazon Prime's 30 free trial) and once I got it out of the box, it took a little bit for me to get it setup correctly cause the bag portion can come completely off the frame and you can adjust the belt etc (also the frame came with two canvas sides w/ pockets so I tried to get it all worked in etc).. I loaded it up with all my gear, rifle and was also able to get my bow & arrows (the bow breaks down) right next to the rifle and in the little rifle stock holder that comes with the Commander bag(so there's plenty of room for all that and you can expand the straps to make more room). After loading it all up, and I mean all my camping gear.. including a 3 person tent (that tray works great for all sorts of things!!), extra blankets, tarp, ax, shovel, stove, knives, ammo, fishing tackle gear, mess gear, & food (basically all the other things I would normally bag up separately), I lifted it and thought okay maybe I went overboard cause by then it got pretty heavy, until I buckled up the hip belt and then all the weight came right off my shoulders. In short, I'm extremely impressed with this bag and its quality. I took it out last weekend and was just amazed that in the back of my truck everything I needed was all in one place, inside this bag. After three days and two nights out, it stood up great and this is a bag that I believe will last me a long time to come. The zippers work real good too.. my only concern is with the plastic buckles but that's with most bags these days. I put mine to the test pretty good and had no issue with the buckles.. though I'd imagine in time they'll probably break at one time or another.. good thing is that it came with three extra straps for using on the frame, so I take those with me for just in case. I was pretty hesitant to spend over $100 for a "backpack" but now, I'm glad I did.. this ALPS Commander is more than just a bag though, I see that now and the quality is well worth the money.

Most important thing I will write in this review: compare dimensions of the various backpacks to your child's back (width from shoulder to shoulder;and length from neck to waist);and buy the larger one,depending on the size of your child. I bought the signature collection for our two year old granddaughter for a couple of reasons: (1) This particular one is larger than many that are for sale; and (2) the quilting pattern is a swirled design, and I think it makes the bag look more feminine and expensive.

(1) Playschool teachers advised grand/parents/others that backpacks should be large enough to accomodate artwork. This backpack accommodates a change of clothes, a 'sippy cup' and any materials sent back and forth between playschool including her priceless 'artwork.' Our granddaughter is tall for her age so she could easily accommodate the larger bag. Plus,she won't 'outgrow' the bag any time soon.

(2) LOVE the swirled quilting design just simply aesthetics.

The bag is well made with quality materials, and I recommend it without hesitation.

Very cute bag. It holds a lot and I monogrammed it to make it a perfect bag for church nursery. My biggest issue with it is that if you have anything more than a diaper in it the snap comes undone.

Although it looks "dainty" as one reviewer put it, this is a very sturdy bag. I bought this for my infant to grow into. I can fit 3 infant outfits, 10 diapers, a package of wipes, pacifiers, diaper cream, a bulb syringe, teething tablets,a bottle, and a mini cooler with breast milk in it. It shows no sign of strain or weakness. This is an excellent bag that I know my daughter will be able to grow into. My only complaint is that it is a completely different color of green than the picture shows. The picture looks lime green and my bag is pea green. :P But I love the bag and I know my daughter will too!

I got the 45 ltr bag and the main compartment is plenty of space for a 3 or 4 day hike. the straps and zippers are sturdy and seem to hold up. the only complaints i have is there is no water bottle holder and it could use a couple more zipper compartments but other than that a great pack

Overland Equipment Aurora Bag

I love this bag. Really. The color is awesome (not a gaudy bright orange, but bright enough not to be a depressing pukey orange) and the bag is just perfectly functional. Most of the time I fold the top over, but when I wind up with a lot of things to carry, I love that the bag can fit just that much more. There are a lot of smaller mesh pocket compartments, even inside the 2 front pockets, which is fantastic for storing extra little things like lip balm, headphones, gum, etc.

The material itself is thick and appears very durable, but is not heavy. The strap is wide and doesn't bother my shoulder. I bring it to work and carry it around like a purse on the weekends, and it doesn't look scummy at all.

My only complaint would be that there is no clasp or snap to hold the top down when it's folded over, but it's really not a hindrance.

I ordered this bag to take on a recent group vacation involving flights and touring in a motor coach. I wanted something light but roomy enough for everything I'd need on day long excursions camera, Kindle, sketchbook, meds, snacks, etc. This worked just fine. The shoulder strap is comfortable and long enough to cross your body securely and the bag itself is lightweight but sturdy. I could carry it with me on walking tours easily.

I was surprised at just how much the fold-over compartment would hold and it might be easy to overload it if you're not mindful of the weight that would result. There are mesh compartments inside and out for wallet, cell phone, etc, but the fold-over section is essentially a bag, so some digging around is inevitable.

One suggestion I'd make is to add a feature that will secure a water bottle upright, though I was able to wedge mine, screw cap on tight, in the outer compartment and that worked fine.

I really like this bag and expect to use it a lot in town when I have art supplies, books, or paperwork to carry.

Arc'teryx Quiver Backpack

This is a well-made bag with very nice features. One problem that I am having is that it presses against my throat on the left side. It may be that I am too large for this bag. The straps fit me but the shoulder strap still migrates over. Also note that the "yellow" is really more green.

It's a little bit stiff and not very comfortable. But it's durable. If the price is lower, I will recommend it.

Your packaging fits the vintage feel of your company with the twine and burlap wrapping inside of the box. It made the experience of opening the box almost as fun as getting my bag. The bag is great and fits my needs perfectly. In my week that I've had it, it is already starting to take on some scratches and character, and looks even better than when it arrived. It has plenty of space for my 15" laptop, charger, and files for work. The leather feels very durable and looks great. The hardware is hefty and solid. I'm am more than satisfied. They only piece of advice I can offer would be to add a padded or false bottom to the bag so a laptop in the center compartment would feel a little safer when placing the bag on the floor.

Voltaic Generator Solar Laptop Charger Bag

Just received it today and;

-The solar panel can detach from the case, which is a relief, because I don't intend to use the case itself. Note however that the screw caps are made of plastic and are easily damaged.

-The solar panel by itself is small enough to fit in a back pack, and attached screws lend it to being fixed to other objects.

-The solar panel can also detach from the little LED light on the case (which seems dumb anyway).

-There are a number of included adapters which allow you to link devices from the battery or directly from the panel. The battery is a little heavy, so if your device can charge directly from the panel then it's a good peice of weight to consider leaving behind.

-The battery came fully charged and so far I've used it to charge my IPhone and a professional camera, no problems. It's also a very nice looking battery.

-(NEGATIVE) I haven't found any connector included with this kit that allows the solar panel to directly connect to USB devices. So far it seems, you have to connect USB devices from the battery. I don't understand how the panel can directly support much larger loads than USB but they don't include a way to directly connect USB. As a work around, the panel can directly connect a 12v car cigarette style outlet which is included with the kit and there are USB cigarette adapters which you can buy separately, so it is possible, if maybe a little bulky. I sent Voltaic a question about the issue and will update when they respond.

-(ALSO NEGATIVE) The device doesn't come with much of an owner's manual. There are some basic instructions, which are probably okay for starters, but nothing to really read into or stimulate the mind. I'm a big fan of solar, and I imagine others who spend the kind of buckage on this probably are to, or at least they want to enlighten their minds with the expensive new toy, but sadly all that's included is a little folding paper with very basic instructions written in half a dozen languages.

-(POTENTIALLY NEGATIVE) This will probably never be an issue for users who leave the panel attached to the case as advertised, but on detaching the panel, it becomes apparent that the power line leading from the panel which connects to the battery/ other devices does not look like it's held on to the panel by very much and looks like it could easily snag on something and break, so if you are detaching the panel from the case like me you will need to use caution or get good at soldering..

(POTENTIALLY NEGATIVE FOR ANYONE WHO USES THIS AS INTENDED) The instructions advise to open the case when charging to keep temperatures inside the case to reasonable levels. I'm not a computer smart guy, but I know they don't like heat and opening the case to charge the computer every time would become a bit of a nuisance.

On other notes, Voltaic almost seems to be more proud of their battery than their solar panel. The battery is nice, however I don't think it is absolutely necessary. One of the reasons I bought a large panel is so I can charge smaller devices under more conditions. But I was also able to slightly charge a smaller Anker (10,000mAh) battery using one of the included adapters directly from the panel before the sun totally disappeared, so you can charge batteries from other companies, or at least it's probably worth a try if you already own a battery and want to save $100+. I'll have to play with it more tomorrow and update again, but probably don't feel obligated to buy the whole kit or the battery if you don't want to. Voltaic also offers the panel, batteries, adapters al-a-cart on it's website, for considerably cheaper assuming you don't need the whole kit.

WHAT I DISLIKED:

It's heavy enough that, once fully loaded, it would be difficult to stow this bag in an airplane overhead bin

The tightness of the zippers can make it difficult to zip/unzip around the bag's corners

I disliked the spring-loaded, extensible handle which I fear will spring out of the bag unexpectedly

CONCLUSION:

I'm not a professional (or even semi-professional) photographer, but if I were, this travel case would be a terrific investment to safely stow and move my equipment to various shooting locations. But it won't replace a very lightweight, compact camera case that you'll also need and want.

First let me say it's a good bag and 3 stars is pretty harsh, it has a great build quality, a little fiddly, but here's why it lost the stars:

Lost one star because it's only going to qualify as carry on with a few airlines. It's diameter of 28.5cm runs pretty close to many of the domestic and budget airlines which have a 24cm, it's over an inch too much. Not much but enough for the stricter airline staff to be a pain and create problems, especially if you use the laptop part for other bits that aren't a nice flat laptop.

Lost another star because it lacks a few external pockets. As a full time photographer/videographer i find myself needing a place to put a bunch of keys, quick access to batteries, memory cards etc, it would be great if like a few other bags it had these, specifically i'm thinking of the Tamrac 5587. Basically i need a Tamrac 5587 with wheels and slightly less 'expedition' straps.

The way i work especially at weddings is a bit of city (wheels are great for this) then a bit of beach, forest, stairs (rucksack is great for this), it's ideal but i wish they would stick some external pockets on it and how about 2 tripod holders, one on either side. Now i'm being fussy, but most photog's i know use a monopod and tripod.

I have a Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack which easily holds two bodies, a lot of lenses and a lot of accessories but it doesn't have wheels. The Lowepro Pro Runner x350 is small by comparison. It's adequate for a single body, a flash, a couple of lenses and strangely enough a l5.4" laptop.

This product can either be rolled or used as a conventional backpack. There is some padding between the backpack and your body which makes it more comfortable. The three piece telescoping handle is sturdy. When you're not using the backpack straps they can be secured behind the padding and are almost not visible. The interior is configurable to accommodate your needs.

OK, there is one thing that concerns me. I just got back from a trip and compared the depth of the Pro Runner x350 to my normal carry-on luggage. The manufacturer claims it is 13" deep which is fine; however, if you fill it up, the depth is over 14" (which exceeds the airline's maximum depth). On a 737, this will be a very tight fit in the overhead compartment when fully loaded because the opening is about 14".

The construction is excellent and the materials are top quality. There are heavy-duty zippers and Fastex straps to secure the main compartment. The laptop bag fits my Dell 15.4" laptop perfectly. You're still going to have to remove the laptop for the TSA agents. BTW: They confiscated a can of tuna saying that it was a liquid -Geniuses! They also took my insect repellant claiming it was a poison (TO BUGS -Hello). But I digress...

I'm used to a larger pack so the Pro Runner X350 seems a little small. If you need more room, take a look at the Lowepro Pro Runner x450 AW DSLR Backpack (Black) which is considerably larger and not that much more expensive.

This bag is perfect for me. It holds 2 Canon 5D bodies and multiple lenses and flashes (plus all the batteries, chargers, CF cards, etc) and fits my Macbook Pro (15 in) as well. There is an inner cushion zippered pocket for the laptop so it feels safe/secure and I like that the laptop compartment is in the front so at airport security I can just whip it out quickly. It rolls well and fits into the overhead compartments just fine (I was worried about it because it is pretty thick.) I loved the backpack option for when you have another bag with you and need freedom of your hands (and for the bus, shuttle, taxi, etc.) I'm a 5'7 female so it does feel quite bulky on my back but it's not horrible for short term. I was debating between this and the ThinkTank Take-Off and I'm glad I saved myself $70 bucks plus some shipping because this works out perfectly for what I need.

I originally bought this because I have a backpack now, and wanted something I could roll too. Not many people make the combination so I was excited to try this.

Once I got it, I instantly realized this would be terrible to carry on your back since it is so heavy, even without anything in it. The rolling part is OK but I feel the handle is a bit weak. So if I was going to be rolling it all the time and not carrying it on my back, I would rather get a better roller bag and drop the backpack part all together.

I returned the item for this reason alone. Aside from the backpack / roller part, this bag is the good quality you would expect from Lowepro. A lot of space, good compartments, etc. I just wanted to give my input on the whole rolling bit.

We just recently purchased this backpack and it is really cute! My daughter was thrilled to see that the pink background behind Smurfette is actually shiny sequins. I was happy that there are two mesh pockets, one on each side, which can hold a water bottle in them. The price was reasonable, but not out of this world.

This is not really a toy! It is a great backpack -larger than most -and very good quality.

Oakley Vertical Messenger

Love this bag! It took me about 1 trip to get adjusted to the 'vertical' style of a messenger bag, but I love it. This bag is great for laptop, a tablet, a few gadgets and a few wires. Don't get this bag if you are looking to carry books or such. It keeps you traveling lite, which is what I prefer.

At first this product was great. But after about 2 months the seems all started falling apart. After 11 months the bag is in shambles. I only used it to carry a 13" laptop, a few cables, and miscellaneous things. Never overfilled.

Dakine Women's Classic Hip Pack

I purchased this to carry a few items when I walk my dogs and do not have pockets. It can hold my keys, treats, dog bags, and chapstick, maybe a couple of other small items. It is a good size for this purpose, however, if I wanted to hold any more than this, or larger items, it would not work. The product is well made, easy to put on and adjust, and I am happy with it.

I have been unable to use cross-body purses or backpacks due to a shoulder injury. I do a lot of active things and really need something that will carry a few things and stay out of my way. Realizing that I was entering dorky territory, I purchased a fanny pack. I am actually very pleased with this one. The colors (I got "crochet") make it look cooler than expected. It lays fairly close to the body. It is pretty small just the right size to carry a few essentials. I carried a wallet (the size of a large business-card case), a handkerchief, keys, Carmex, earbuds, and a travel lotion. It was fairly full. I put my iPhone in the front pocket. It was a tight squeeze the first time, but once I got the hang of it, I could get it in and out without trouble. The zipper pulls are a bit loud, but either I got used to it or...well, I probably just got used to it. I may just keep using this pack after the shoulder heals!

Well.....every RN out there knows how valuable a really good hip pack is at work....and just how hard it is to find a good quality one that is functional and trendy looking. I was hopeful with this one.....but realized quickly that it was pretty much completely useless while on the job. It is very stiff and way too small. I tried putting my credit card, cash, lip glass, cell phone in the front pocket.....it wasn't happening. It only fit my money/credit card and lip gloss....that is IT.....and when I unzipped it, my credit card fell on the floor. The larger compartment had my pens, skinny highlighters, bandage scissors, alcohol pads, saline syringes......and again, I had to leave it unzipped bc it was so small in space and the items would fall out. It is pretty much a useless bag for the reason I intended for it's use. And it's a shame too bc it is very well made, and I really like the pattern (kaleidoscope) but unfortunately, as a RN......functionality is the most important factor in using a hip pack in the hospital.....guess my search for a really good pack continues......sigh

I know a hip pack is small and compact but this one took it too far. It is sturdy but holds very little, a comb, ID and credit card,lip balm. forget cigarettes if you are a smoker,or shades if it's in a carryng case. Maybe it's me but I expected something bigger, like your standard fanny pack. Good for runners. Not worth $17.

Targus Unofficial Backpack Case Designed for 16 Inch Laptops TSB168US (Black)

This is a review for the 14 Inch Widescreen black color model.

First the good:

1. Relatively compact size in width and depth.

2. Zippers are sturdy and move smoothly without binding.

3. Two compartments. One for laptop and another for accessories, pencil/pen, and other related items.

4. Outer compartment has zip, but is configured as two pockets.

5. Back pocket for magazine/newspapers.

6. Strap is 1.5" wide and sturdy like a seat belt. It is attached with a metal hook and firmly cross-stitched on the other side. This is generally hard to find on more inexpensive bags.

Now the bad:

1. It is snug for a 13.3" thin laptop like a MacBook Pro and would be hard to squeeze in a standard 14" Dell or HP.

2. The pockets don't expand and the zipper does not go down the sides at all, the zipper ends a couple of inches from the top on both sides.

3. A 13.3" MacBook Pro in a sleeve is a bit snug, but will work; however, with accessories in the 2nd compartment, like the power adapter, a couple of short cables and papers makes this bag hard to use.

4. It is more ideal for a netbook or a 12" thin laptop.

5. There is no room for expansion.

Finally, this would have been the ideal bag, had it been been able to expand about an inch in width and depth. Perhaps the 16" version would be more appropriate for a 13" or 14" laptop.

I just bought myself a new MacBook Pro (it hadn't even been delivered yet), and was looking for a carrying case when-how convenient!-this little baby by Targus just happened to appear. I thought "what the heck, I'll give it a try." I am thrilled that I did!

This is just about the most perfect laptop bag I've owned.

The bag is perfectly designed and built to an exceptionally high quality standard.

Here are the details:

The bag, when closed, is about 16 inches long, 12 inches high, and 4 inches deep. When closed, it looks like a little cubic rectangle, with very clean lines. It has one adjustable shoulder strap about three inches wide made out of the same stuff that a car seatbelt is-very sturdy. What people may not appreciate about this-but which I do-is that because it is made of this seatbelt material (which is flexible, but not TOO flexible), the shoulder strap KEEPS ITS SHAPE and doesn't fold over on itself and thus bite into your shoulder. On the other hand, it is soft and flexible enough that it doesn't hurt, either--you know, kind of like a seatbelt! It is just COMFORTABLE when you carry it. The shoulder strap is actually sewn to the body of the case in a large square pattern. What this means practically is that the cord doesn't flip upside down or get tangled. Everyone has had that one terrible bag that no matter how you carry it on your shoulder, the strap twists around, then the bag twists around, and everything is just so uncomfortable that you have to put all your effort into carrying the bag rather than anything else you might want to carry. Frustration! This bag doesn't do that! The strap is so well-designed that the bag sits on your shoulder and stays there very comfortably with no extra effort on your part.

When the bag is closed, there is one visible pocket on the outside (on the side closest to your body) which seems designed for folders or one or two notebooks. This is mighty convenient, since most of us still have paper documents that we need sometimes.

On the other side is where you open the case. This technology is a great improvement over any other closing device I've seen! Let me explain.

There is a flap of cloth-well, not exactly cloth, but like a heavy-duty, cross-stitched nylon-about 15" x 12". It has two medium magnets sewn inside which attach with two other magnets sewn into the body of the bag. These magnets are strong enough to hold the bag closed, but light enough to open easily. THERE ARE NO MOVING PARTS TO BREAK! THERE IS NO ANNOYING VELCRO!!! It's great. Just pull on the flap and the bag is open.

Inside the bag, there are three main compartments, each with zippers. Each compartment is the length of the bag, but differs in width. The first and largest is for the laptop itself. It will fit a 16" laptop. This compartment is well-padded, and is lined with mesh in order to wick away heat and keep the laptop cool. Great innovation. Genius!

The second compartment is smaller and not as heavily padded. Within this second compartment there is a flap of nylon that separates the compartment into two. The nylon flap itself has a zipper and can be used to store stuff. Sewn onto the outside of nylon flap are two smaller compartments, each with velcro. They are about the size of an iPhone or a cell phone, and seem designed for this purpose. In between these two compartments are loops for pens or pencils. In the near part of this two-compartment section are two more loose mesh flap compartments, probably for computer peripherals. The main compartment itself is big enough for a power cord--which is what I use it for.

The third zippered compartment is the smallest of the three, sewn into the wall of the bag itself. This compartment is divided into two compartments by a vertical nylon thread. I am not sure what these two compartments might be used for, but they are totally separated from the laptop portion. In my mind, that means you might store stuff here that might hurt the laptop, such as coins or such, or just other stuff not related to the laptiop.

As far an negatives, I can really see only one. On the label of the bag it says that the bag comes with an "easy-grip handle"-and there seems to be a metal loop for it on the outside of my particular copy. However, when I received the bag, there was no handle! I don't know if this was an oversight or what, but I got no handle. However, to be honest, I haven't really missed it at all.

As far as functionality, the bag seems to make my laptop LIGHTER, if possible. Carrying the bag is very comfortable! To me that is absolutely key... and the Targus does the job.

So, to summarize: I am extremely happy with the well-thought-out design, the heavy-duty construction, and ease and comfort of use of the Targus Messenger Case, and would recommend it without reservation.

I like the way the bag looks. Sturdy material that's not shiny enough to see your reflection in. No ugly giant logos. No garish zippers. No weird pockets. No oddly shaped, useless, rubber lumps. I love that the fold-over flap connects to the bag by magnetic strips no fooling around with some stupid clip or obnoxiously loud Velcro. It also has a strap (which you can't see in the pictures) along the top, positioned towards the back which you can use to carry as a brief case. Has enough space to carry everything I need to work, albeit, I think it could have been a little more spacious. Has plenty of pockets in the front pocket for all uses pens, pencils, mouse, notebook, etc. I have only had it for a week now, but so far it is a great bag, I would recommend it!

Bought this bag for my Asus 15.6" laptop and it fits perfectly. I tend to sling backpacks just over my right shoulder the majority of the time and this bag just sits perfectly. Quality contruction and materials, love the handles on top. The color is a bright tomato red and the inside is a nice contrasting orange much more fun and more "me" than all the boring black bags out there! There are 2 zippered compartments the back one that holds the actual laptop has a snug padded area and then room for flat files, etc. The other zipper area has a large inside zippered pocket, 2 open pockets (that hold a mouse perfectly), and then a big open area for your other stuff. The estimated time for delivery was a month because it was coming from the UK, and I got no tracking number, but it actually arrived in about 10 days. Love it!

This backpack has an incredible design, it's original and comfortable. The quality of this product is amazing. It's slim but with enough space for the basic needs. I really recommend this product.
