Ogio Bandit Backpack

I ordered this pack to replace another ogio pack. The quality of the pack is not what I have an issue with. It is the design of the pack.

Cons:

internal organizer seems to be setup more for a macbook

side pockets are oddly shaped

the padded laptop sleeve is tight with my lenovo 15.6. It fits but the zipper rubs the corners.

The quick access shoulder pocket is to small to hold anything larger than an iphone.

The stitching quality is much poorer then my previous pack.

The way that the interior of the pack is layed leaves much to be desired. it kills most of the usable 1700 claimed cubic inches of cargo space.

the front padded valuable pocket is poorly designed leaving very little space to put anything. a pair of sunglasses is tight.

unable to fit more then a couple of notebooks after getting my laptop and cords stuffed in there

it holds my laptop securely

In the end I picked the pack up while it was on sale. I am not happy with this purchase.

I bought this pack for college use. It holds all my textbooks and my laptop. I wouldn't recommend it for 17 inch laptops, because of the way the backpack is designed. I'm sure if you measured from the bottom of the pack to the top it would be over 17 inches, but the top zipper is rounded and it sure isn't 17 inches at both edges, so I would guess that the corner of your computer would block the zipper. The bottom of the laptop compartment feels a little thin on padding, but if you have book in setting your pack down won't hurt your laptop. If you're worried about this, I'd recommend sticking some foam in the bottom of the compartment. I actually carry my laptop in my backpack inside a sleeve, so this isn't an issue.

I haven't had it for a really long to test it out, but it seems to be really well made. I've heard the the zippers are the first thing to go, and they don't seem flimsy or weak at all, so I think this pack will last a long time. However the end of the straps where they hang down had little threads hanging off from where they fold the ends up twice and sew them so they won't unravel.. i kept picking at the threads and managed to pick out the stitching, so I rolled up the excess strap and secured it with tape and will resew it when I get the chance. I didn't have to undo any knots or anything. Just tugging on the threads was enough to completely take out that sewing. However rest assured the sewing on the rest of the pack has remained strong and true and doesn't have any hanging threads. :)

Loading the pack with four textbooks + my laptop makes it super heavy, but it's designed well and if you wear it right so that the bottom of the pack hits your lower back, it's not uncomfortable and doesn't cause back strain.

The zippered pocket on the front really is handy for carrying stuff, as are all the other little pockets on the outside. The only thing I don't really like is that the two bottom pockets on each side are where you'd normally find pockets to hold a water bottle or umbrella or something like that.. They're zippered, and shaped so that if you unzipper them halfway they're great for carrying these items, but if you jiggle a lot the zippers sometimes unzipper more, making it potentially possible for your water bottle/umbrella to fall out. :o I wish these pockets were elastic or drawstring fastened rather than zippers, but that's probably my only complaint with this pack.

I've owned this bag for about a year and have taken it everywhere. I have no complaints at all. It has endured road debris while I've got it equipped when riding, it has seen spills in a couple of different compartments, and its seen a variety of weather. Ogio makes outstanding products... I tried this bag because I loved the golf bag I got from them. I've also gotten bags for work and loved them. The easiest 5 stars I've ever given :)

I bought this to use for work and double as a day hike backpack. I carry a 5 inch ultrabook for work along with various electronics. Plenty of room. The first bag I received had a popped seam on the back of the pack but the replacement has been perfect. It also has plenty of pockets. The zippers are VERY heavy duty. The material appears it will hold up quite well. I have not used it for hiking as I plan on doing that later in the year.

The ledge packpack is aimed to those who need low weight without compromising on features and number of compartments. Basically the same practicality than the North Face and Weger I have but much lighter.

When I first ordered it I was worried that it wouldn't fit my 17" laptop, or would look different than the pictures. It fit my laptop with plenty of room to spare. It seems very tough. Also, it has a headphone jack that connects from the inside of the bag to the outside. It doesn't change the volume or pulse your Ipod from the headset when you hook it in. Even with a 17" laptop I had room for plenty of books. I hope that this helps feel the details that are missing from the description above.

Mobile Edge EVO Backpack- 16-Inch PC/17-Inch MacBook Pro (Black/Silver)

After a lot of research and comparison, I replaced a Swissgear pack with this Mobile Edge Evo. It is very well made. The only complaint is that I miss having a dedicated laptop zipper and slot for more direct access. What I do like is it is relatively short, which is good for people under 6', but is not narrow, so still has good capacity. It also tapers at the top, bottom, and sides, and fits close to the body, so I find it much less prone to knocking into people and objects when wearing it. The tapered bottom makes it harder to stand upright, but it is a good trade-off for me after my old flat bottom pack that stuck out a foot behind me.

This is a really nice laptop backpack. I use it for my Lenovo ThinkPad T430s, along with an extra battery, AC/DC Combo adapter, another AC adapter (I like to leave one in the corporate office and have one in my hotel room), mouse, phone accessories, UltraBay DVD Drive, headphones, etc. It holds it all. Also seems pretty comfortable. The logo isn't the prettiest thing but it's all black so it's not too bad. The side pockets are roomier than you would think. It's a good backpack and a great price. I chose this over the Ogio and others because of what it offered and the lower price was a bonus.

Great backup in terms of material and how it looks. Very well designed, and it doesn't appear bulky when you wear it.

I bought this product, after exchanging a similar version I received as a gift but that was too large. I made a mistake and hit one click purchase twice and ended up with two of them. Good thing I never got around to returning the extra one. Within 2 weeks of every day use (take it out in the morning, put it in in the evening), the zipper broke off and the darn thing was zipped shut. Not wanting to bother with returns for somehting so cheap, I just threw out the first one and started using the second one. It lasted 3 days before I had the same problem. Sigh. Everything was great about this, except that it's bigger than the dimensions given. With my laptop inside, there is still about 2.5 inches between the computer and the zipper. That doesn't really hurt anything, it would give you room to put papers, or a notebook or something in there, I just didn't want the extra width.

I love this bag. Really. The color is awesome (not a gaudy bright orange, but bright enough not to be a depressing pukey orange) and the bag is just perfectly functional. Most of the time I fold the top over, but when I wind up with a lot of things to carry, I love that the bag can fit just that much more. There are a lot of smaller mesh pocket compartments, even inside the 2 front pockets, which is fantastic for storing extra little things like lip balm, headphones, gum, etc.

The material itself is thick and appears very durable, but is not heavy. The strap is wide and doesn't bother my shoulder. I bring it to work and carry it around like a purse on the weekends, and it doesn't look scummy at all.

My only complaint would be that there is no clasp or snap to hold the top down when it's folded over, but it's really not a hindrance.

I ordered this bag to take on a recent group vacation involving flights and touring in a motor coach. I wanted something light but roomy enough for everything I'd need on day long excursions camera, Kindle, sketchbook, meds, snacks, etc. This worked just fine. The shoulder strap is comfortable and long enough to cross your body securely and the bag itself is lightweight but sturdy. I could carry it with me on walking tours easily.

I was surprised at just how much the fold-over compartment would hold and it might be easy to overload it if you're not mindful of the weight that would result. There are mesh compartments inside and out for wallet, cell phone, etc, but the fold-over section is essentially a bag, so some digging around is inevitable.

One suggestion I'd make is to add a feature that will secure a water bottle upright, though I was able to wedge mine, screw cap on tight, in the outer compartment and that worked fine.

I really like this bag and expect to use it a lot in town when I have art supplies, books, or paperwork to carry.

New laptops for christmas that were 17.3 inches. We wanted laptop sleeve that was neoprene and had handles to make ease of carrying the larger laptop. Read reviews and liked picture although settled for plain black as only color choice. When cases arrived they had small side strap and NO HANDLES as seen in picture. It does the job. It is sleek, well-padded, has nice zippers and a convenient handle. The side pocket is an added bonus, as well just enough room to stuff a power cord and/or mouse into. I have a Dell Studio 1747 (17 in.) and it fits perfectly. I am going to use this sleeve to add extra padding for my laptop when I pack it into my backpack. If I ever have to only transport the laptop this bag is sufficient. I totally recommend.

This bag is large enough to stow a generous amount of gear that I need during my day: a nice big wallet, a little cosmetics bag, a couple of folded-up reusable grocery bags, a sweatshirt, a snack, a library book. My immense 24-oz OXO travel tea tumbler fits in the bottle pocket on the side. And I use the compression straps for my yoga mat. A further bit of excellence: the bag is designed so that you can twist it around and access the pockets while wearing it. The little pocket located on the strap is easily large enough for my Samsung Galaxy SIII. There is even a padded, felt-lined pocket for a tablet or a Kindle. Despite being so capacious, it never feels too big or bulky or gets in my way. It has grab-straps sewn onto the larger strap so that it's easy to grab and lift the bag from any angle, and also there's always a place to clip your keychain onto. It has multiple pen slots and card/stuff slots in the large front organizer area, plus the convenient open front pocket for that power bar/parking card/packet of tissues you need rapid access to. This bag is pretty close to perfect!

I took away 1 star for the following reasons: because the bag is nice and big, it's easy for my wallet to fall to the bottom and be hard to find. One or two internal slots or pockets would make this bag even more awesome. And also, the selection of available colors and patterns is not really very fashion-forward. But if you are willing to overlook these minor issues, the bag is really really good. Comparable levels of functionality in a "fancier" brand would run $100 or more. (I am looking at you, Lululemon.) And honestly, I have not really found this level of excellence in any other bag, fancy or plain.

This backpack is awesome for day use , fits great , comfortable to wear . I would recommend to anyone !

Oakley Mens Icon Backpack

I have bought two of these for my son in the last couple of years. They LOOK heavy duty but on the first one the shoulder straps were poorly made and the padding, stitching and material on the straps all tore or failed. This was not used for anything particularly harsh-it just couldn't handle any kind of weight due to the design. I stiched it back together but it still look kind of junky and I can't see how it could be repaired without new straps. I thought maybe I got a bad one, and my son liked it, so I bought a second one. This one has lasted about 6 months and tore in the rear near the zipper. Again it does not seem to be able to hold much of a load. I contacted Oakley to see what they would do and was told they have a 90 day warranty (I have the email so its in writing). That is not really enough, in my opinion, considering the price. Both Northface and Jansport will provide a lifetime warranty and I have gotten replacements for each over the years. I gave this two stars because overall they look great and if you dont intend to carry anything over 10lbs or so you will like it. If you are buying it as a bookbag, ex. for a student, I would keep looking. I think a $100+ backpack should do a better job, like last several years at least.

My son only used this backpack for about a month and a half, and the nylon ripped on the side. It is very poorly made. The Oakley Icon Backpack is stylish and looks good, but for $140, it should last longer than a couple of months! Unfortunately, I couldn't return it to Amazon because it was past 30 days, and when I called Oakley, they would not exhcange it because it was past their warranty period.

UPDATE on 10/15/2012 :

1.) Honestly, this has been a poor investment. The cloth covering the padding on the right shoulder strap developed a rip in the seam about 3 months in. It has not gotten much worse since then but I have been pretty careful with it. The padding did however remain in tact.

2.) Worst thing. I was on a hike when the sternum strap just broke off the guides on the strap. I was on a day hike so the bag was barely loaded. This was a real disappointment.

CONCLUSION: I can not recommend this bag anymore. It has been a thorough waste of money. It is definitely spacious but it is not durable. It needs to be babied, apparently. My .02 : Go to REI and buy a real bag.

END OF UPDATE. MY INITIAL REVIEW FOLLOWS:

So, I got this bag after much deliberation but I chose to get the turquoise blue mish mash with several other colors. I'm surprised at how non-gaudy it looks, so I'd definitely consider that one, and when I got it, it was 60 bucks cheaper than any of the other models.

Anyway, i think that this bag is extremely spacious. The straps and the part making contact with the back are padded to perfection, and as long as you have the sternum strap and waist straps on, you will barely feel a load and since I bike to campus almost everyday, about 6 miles, I think that really speaks volumes about the comfort offered by the bag. The organizer also is pretty good.

But obviously everything isn't perfect and this has it's weaknesses tooThe side sip for laptops works perfectly for me but then my laptop is 11.6 inches. I think anything over 13 will struggle with the side zip. Also, though I'm a big fan of the looks of this bag, it's a hassle to access the main compartment of the bag because you have to keep taking the top flap off. But I don't think any of these are major hassles and I think a North Face surge at the same cost isn't as much value for money as this bag and is definitely not going to be as durable, and I should know because I tried that out too before keeping this one.

I bought this backpack as a multipurpose travel and light-outdoor pack. I wanted to replace my attache case that I carried my laptop in on business trips. This bag proved to be the right choice. It is very versatile and well built. It has a compartment and side zipper for accessing your laptop. This is great when going through airport security. I have also used this pocket to store magazines or even my travel documents (boarding pass, reservations, hotel info) in during travel. The side pockets are great for your point-and-shoot camera and/or phone/ipod charger. The top pocket on the top flap is great for sun-glasses, phones, and other electronic accessories. Once you open the pack the front storage area has pockets for an ipod/phone, pens, and other electronics, and a mesh compartment for easy access accessories (I have used this pocket for sunglasses, sunscreen, bug-spray etc. There is plenty room on the inside for a small cooler, towels, clothes, or large camera bag.

Again, I have used this bag for business travel and light outdoor activities (short hiking trips, days at the beach or pool, and local excursions). I think it is great for this use and will stand up to years of use. If you are looking for more extreme outdoor activities, then I would probably look for a more activity-specific bag.

Overall, the pack is comfortable to wear and it has a lumbar strap for additional support. The external 3-point strap on the top flap may appear cumbersome; however, I happen to like it. It allows you to keep the bag small and compact with varying internal loads. The clasps come on and off very easily. The bag seems well built with quality materials. I would definitely recommend this bag.

I bought the original Icon more than 10 years ago. I still have it. It's travelled many thousands of miles of mountain biking, motorcycling and hiking. It's been to 12 countries. I replaced it with the new Icon, because it was getting kind of grubby and stinky after all those years.

The new V3 Icon has some nice features, and retains the original Icon's cool 3-clasp closure and look.

Unfortunately after less than a year of use, the bottom began to fall apart at the seams. Either the fabric is cheaper, or the stitching is crappier. But for a 1 year old bag to fall apart with not a lot of usage, whereas the 10+ year old version is still rock solid, indicates a big quality problem here.

I bought this bag with the intent to use it solely for my Triathlon training and competitions, but after being deployed to the desert, I've found this bag is seriously multipurpose!!! I use it to haul everything from my Mac laptop, lunch pail (yes it holds all of my stuff AND my soft 12x6x8 lunch pail that also doubles as a 12 beer cooler), to all of my pool and gym workout items. The bag performs amazingly with a lot of weight in it too. Basically, if this bag can make it through desert deployments and my Tri training, it's a bag I will continue to purchase. I would definitely recommend this Tri bag to my friends!!!

Wildkin Owls Macropak Backpack

My daughter loves the owls and wanted an owl backpack for school. This is definitely cute but not holding up. It started falling apart after just a week. She likes the way it looks and wants to keep using it. So now the tie on the side pouch has come unravelled beyond repair and I need to stitch a handle to the bag.

So I have a smaller version (bag they'll fight over when you're dead!), which I bought about 2 years ago. The Vagabond bad arrived today. For SOOOOOO much less money than the other bag, these bags are very impressive. There are differences (mostly in the quality of the hardware/buckles), but you would not really notice without a side by side comparison. The Vagabond is lined, has dividers in the main section (3 parts), and looks way cool! It is a good size for a laptop (but is non-padded), a trip to the office with a ton of crap, or perhaps a quick overnight somewhere. Absolutely love it, and love the $400 I saved by not buying the other bag in this larger size.

Took the bag out a couple of rimes now, fully loaded. It does get pretty heavy.

Just received this item in 48 hours after I purchased it. The seller delivered it much ahead of the scheduled date. This bag is unbelievable. It is rich thick leather made from quality hide and not some cheaper version. The seams, buckles and fasteners are all very stong. The bag was very nicely packaged and arrived very much in the condition in which it was advertised. This bag is very spacious and can hold legal files and a large laptop with no problem. It is a heavier bag so when loaded it does have some weight to it. However, that is why I purchased it. I don't think this bag will wear out. I am very pleased with the quality and design of this item. The seller has produced a very quality bag for the price. I recommend this bag to anyone in business or personal life that wants a bag that looks like it can handle anything. It has a very classic feel and I like the fact that no matter what I put in it, the straps appear strong enough to hold anything.

I bought this bag and it is GORGEOUS but due to my own indecision and needs, I ended up returning it. It was just too much bag for what I ended up needing. If I ever have different needs for a bag of this type and size, I'd order it in a SECOND. Ended up getting the L64 instead and I am absolutely NUTS about it. This one is great too just wasn't exactly what I needed. The return went very smooth and flawlessly.

I received mine almost 2 years ago. It went through a year of 2 1/2 hours on the train every day and has safely carried my large laptop the entire time. It shows no signs of degradation. The backpack feature was critical for the heavy load of lunch/books/computer, though it is not as comfortable as a normal backpack because both straps connect at the top-center. It IS a heavy bag made of 1/8" thick leather (maybe 4-5 lb) so be sure you can handle it.

I also have gotten many compliments on the looks of this bag.
