I bought this back pack or my husband as a birthday gift , he called it "perfect", he uses it to carry his laptop and other work related things back and forth to his construction site. It appears very well made and has a nice configuration of pockets it looks so much more professional that the sharper image backback he has been using for a while. He hasn't traveled on an airline with it yet, he will be using it on flights, but it appears to be conveinent enough for that. I did a lot of research on line and in stores...this was clearly one of the best buys I found.

First thing first, only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is there is no water bottle holder. I travel and this fits perfectly on my 360 spinner luggage from travel pro (25 inch) since there is a strap in the bag that fits snugly on luggage. it holds all the work and play items in need when i travel (mac, ipad, ipod, cords, bose headset, work folders and make up bag. also holds the extra stuff i get at the airport, magazines, snacks and water.

more room than you need unless you use this as a suitcase. and again the only downfall is i need to place my water in the bag since there is no external holder. what is cool is 2 small external pockets that hold keys, lip balm, snacks etc so you don't need to dig inside. contains an ipod pouch within the bag with an access hole at the top of the bag to the outside for your earphones. would totally recommend!

I travel quite a bit on airplanes and this is the right size as well as not having to take out the computer to get through security makes it easier than normal. Solid construction and the right amount of storage pockets. Very good value for the price.

I just received this as a replacement for a TravelPro backpack that I'd purchased at Staples which fell apart inside (apparently was made by a different company, but they honored their lifetime warranty great customer service!). I want to love this bag. It's very sturdy, looks very solidly made, but...

There is NO WAY you'll fit any 17" laptop in this.

The bag's dimensions are 17.5" tall on the outside, but the computer compartment has a very nicely padded pocket to hold the laptop. As this padded pocket is sewn inside the bag about a half inch off the bottom, it loses a lot of available space. I walked around the office trying different laptops, and none of the 17" or 17.3" would fit inside. The biggest we could get in was a Sony Vaio 15" screen, with outer dimensions of 10"x14", and even then I had to pull the zipper up over the corners in a tight fit.

If you have a 15" or smaller laptop, I recommend this bag. The internal pockets are roomy, the fabric is thick and tightly woven, the zippers are heavy duty, and TravelPro has a lifetime warranty. The "checkpoint friendly" clamshell design is a huge timesaver going through security lines. For anything bigger, keep looking. I'm waiting to see what the company is going to do for me, as their other backpack has similar dimensions. If they say I'm stuck with this, well, then, a coworker of mine is going to have a very nice present, and I'll be shopping for a new bag.

Victorinox Tear Drop Monosling

I think this is my very first review on Amazon ever. I am writing because this bag is that awesome. I searched forever for a simple, lightweight bag that I could wear while biking short distances on errands or for a day trip that would not swivel around dangerously. This is it. I adore this bag and am considering getting another for good measure. No you can't fit tons of items, but that's what a full backpack or messenger bag is for. This is ideal for: wallet, glasses, keys, cell, paperback and small water bottle etc. It's PERFECT and exactly what I have been searching for. Maybe it is a little pricey, but this is an extremely sturdy little bag with two separate compartments and a well cushioned strap. Aesthetically it's small and unassuming, which I appreciate. It would be useful I think for short hikes or touristy stuff too...

This is actually my favorite brand of bag. I have their suitcases and backpacks as well. This was not marketed as a biking accessory and I only wish I thought to check with Victorinox sooner!

It just arrived today. I was unsure about purchasing it because I didn't know if it could hold my Kindle (which I take everywhere) and a few other items. It got here and my Kindle fits nicely inside it with its case and it also has room for me to put maybe a handheld game in there too! It's the right size, nothing too big nothing too small and the frontal pocket can hold my phone or something of the like. When you read "Wire-Enforced strap" you may have wondered what that meant, well, the strap has a wire going trough the middle of it. It's not visible, but you can tell that it's sturdy. This means that if you go somewhere and someone tries to cut the strap to steal from you, it won't be easy to cut and give you time to save your pack. The zippers can push into these little areas where you can make them seem like they're hidden, which also protects from theft. There is a pocket on the strap as well that is kind of small, it definitely can't fit my iPhone, but something small like maybe cash, or a credit card would fit very nicely! And maybe keys would, too. But It's perfect! Please leave comments if you have questions that I didn't include. I'll try to answer them if I can!

I didn't know that Victorinox is a division of Swiss Gear, therefore was pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of this "Tear Drop Monosling." The well-designed pack (for men & women) features the distinctive red Swiss Gear embossed metal logo, a padded shoulder strap w/ built-in pocket, reinforced with wire for security, and a large enough main compartment for essential items. I carry green bags for further shopping, folded, they fit inside the bag nicely. Unfortunately, in the faux city where I live, so few people walk rather than drive that if you wear a large backpack, you're gonna get mistaken for a street-resident. This efficient, durable, elegant pack avoids misunderstandings; great after I bought a cheap pack that fell apart. You can't go wrong here.

Jansport Elefunk Tote (Black)

I originally got this bag about 6 years ago (in 2003). It was perfect, there were so many little pockets that you could organize everything you needed. Plus, it doesn't look huge, but it holds ALOT of stuff.

I purchased another one for my boyfriend recently (Fall 2008) b/c he was so in love with my bag. The design in generally the same, but the quality of the material has seriously deteriorated. You can tell the fabric is made of much cheaper stuff. The front zip pocket use to have a compartment to slide things into, but it now just sown directly onto the bag (eliminating a good partition in front pocket). There is also this tiny piece of fabric sown on as a 'handle' to use to carry it, but it's so feeble, it's not really much of an improvement.

If you didn't know what the old one was like, I'd still say it was a pretty good bag...nice colors options now too, but clearly cutting back on the quality of the materials and workmanship.

I purchased this bag for my partner who is pursuing college. He absolutely loves this bag. There are a number of zippered compartments on the body of the bag. The front flap also has a small pocket for easy access externally which, is secured by clips that attach to the bottom of the bag. Beneath the flap is another zippered compartment that is very handy. It has a number of pockets, a key ring, among other areas to keep yourself organized, this zippered area provides a secure place to carry a wallet or music player without having the worry of being pick-pocketed. We live in Chicago and this is a wonderful commuter bag as well. The strap has an adjustable pad for heavier loads as well as a padded back for wearing while biking. There is also a netted external pouch for bottles. The main compartment of the bag is secured by a long zipper that runs the length of the opening and also has a padded divider for occasionally transporting any size laptop. It was money well spent, as he'll be sure to use the bag for years to come. I hope this helps in your decision.

This bag is absolutely perfect! I keep my 14.1" laptop, usb mouse, battery charger, palm pilot, palm pilot keyboard and random paperwork in this bag, and it is NOT overstuffed! Everything important for my daily travels fits in this bag, and still looks stylish with the slim fit pockets!

There is a wide foam pad that I lay my laptop against, and I have nothing to worry about as I carry it along while shooting pictures.

I was disappointed when I got this bag at first, primarily because it was huge! And it seemed like it wouldn't hold its shape.

After getting discouraged by Amazon's return policy, I decided to use it anyway. And I am so glad I did.

I have been using it to carry my gym clothes, office documents, lunch box, and am really happy with its performance and quality and guess what it does hold its shape.

Would have loved to see more compartments (-1 star for this), but it isn't so bad the way it is right now.

My 9 y.o. daughter was clear she wanted a messenger bag, preferably in turquoise with at least 3 pockets. This bag fit the bill perfectly! It has 3 large pockets which all close with heavy-duty zippers. The largest pocket is big enough to carry a 3-ring binder, lunch bag, several books, notebooks, folders and a jacket. There are several smaller pockets internally for pencils, small notebooks, phones, etc. The handle is broad enough to not twist easily and can be adjusted to fit shorter or longer bodies. I use this bag for my swim stuff... it holds a bath towel, and hand towel, my suit, a small bag of shower stuff, a small bag of makeup, my goggles, a brush, and still has a little room for other small misc. items like flip flops if you need it. The pocket is solid on the top, but you can see through it on the back since it is just a piece of material sewn to the mess bag. Works great for holding my wallet, cell phone and keys though. I love this bag especially for the price. It is bigger than it looks in the picture, so I hope my description of the contents it holds will help you understand the size.

I wanted a bag for a day trip that wasn't bulky like a school bag. This is perfect. Not bulky and big enough for a change of clothes etc, for the beach, and easy for the kids to carry themselves. Don't let the price discourage you. I thought for $5.99 it would be cheap and small, but it wasn't.

I guess I expected too much from this based on the good reviews.

Here's the stuff I don't like:

The small pocket is separated only from the main compartment with mesh. That means if I put my earbuds in there, they are getting dirtied by my shoes in the main part of the bag.

Straps are too small to wear as a backpack when the bag is full.. made for a child really.

Not really that big as the other reviews seemed to indicate. It's a tight fit for my shoes, a pair of shorts, and weight lifting gloves.

Mesh is very thin.

Also, I don't think all the pictures on this page are for the same item. As you will see, some appear to be very dense soft mesh like a pair of gym shorts. My buddy has one like this and its very nice. The one I got was very thin mesh.

All of this probably would have added up to a 3 star review, except the thing broke apart at the seam after only a couple of months.

Batman the Dark Knight 16 Inch Backpack

Like most 7 year-old boys, my son selected this backpack for the picture of Batman. (Which, admittedly, is pretty cool.)

I could tell when I took it out of its shipping box that it wouldn't last long, and sadly, I was correct.

The zipper broke within a few weeks. Within a month or two, the "cool" picture of Batman (which is printed on a stiff, cheap soft plastic) split and tore clean off. Revealing a thin foam/mesh underneath.

As most parents know, this is heartbreaking for a kid. So, spare your child the anguish and pay good money for a quality backpack that will last.

The color wasn't what I expected; it looks more purple than black. The elastic bands across the front are definitely purple. Looks like the back pack sat in front of a store window and faded. The size is exactly what I expected because I saw the back pack, albeit different color, in a store.

FYI, this does not come with hydration bladder. I thought it did, oops. I bought a Platypus bladder and tube separately, it would''ve fit 1-2 liter, but mine is fine with 1.

I purchased this to avoid hand carrying on day hikes with my German Shepherd. It is perfect; fits everything I need for up to one day, including water, food, wallet, keys, glasses, dog treats, etc. It has 2 small side compartments that are easily accessible and these are my favorites. The daypack fits very comfortably due to the easy stap adjustments. I am 5 ft 9 in and of medium to thin build, however I don't think the chest strap and waist strap would adjust to fit a very robust person. The chest and waist straps make carrying easy, most of the time I don't even realize it is on. There is no movement of the pack that causes irritation. Quick snaps make for easy on and off. The only item I carry separately is my camera. The pack would fit a small camera, but I like to have mine more accessible. The color is darker than pictured, more of a burgendy, but still very pretty. The fabric feels very durable, haven't used it in rain yet, so I don't know how it fares in wet weather.

The product design is pretty. The only issue I had was that it was a bit tight on my 15" macbook pro. It zipped up fine but there's no wiggle room, so the zipper was scraping against the side of my macbook.

The padding is thin, very thin. I would overlook that but I still don't like how I would have to take caution each time I zipped up the case so I'm returning it and trying something else. It would have been nice if it had some sort of lining underneath the zipper to prevent the scraping.

It's fine. It's not very padded, and is more of a decorative case than anything else. I would still be very concerned if anything bumped into my laptop while it was in this case, and I don't feel extremely comfortable with my laptop in the case. It's cute though.

Targus Grove Notebook Backpack

This backpack is simply great! I bought the Grove 4 years ago in an Office Depot, not knowing what I was buying really. Let me list the places I've gone and the things I've done with this bag:

1) To school every single day for 2 whole years.

2) I've taken this bag on intense, 3 day hikes through rain, mud, and sand.

3) Carry-on for multiple trips.

4) As a night sack when I'm invited to sleep as a guest.

To be honest, this bag has been through almost everything with me.

Pros:

1) Holds well against water.

I've only had one time when the contents were soaked and that was when I left it in the pouring rain for approximately 2.5-3 hours. Other than that, I've gone through pouring (Florida) rain for up to 5-6 minutes; I'm soaked, but my notebook is safe and dry.

2) Plenty of space for your average job.

The Grove can hold a laptop, 3 textbooks, 2 notebooks (paper), all your laptop needs (charger, mouse, usb drive), a small reading book, an iPod, a water bottle, anything. At that point, it does get bulky, but it'll hold strong.

3) The water bottle holders on the left and right pockets actually hold a 16.9 fl oz water bottle pretty well, even if running to class.

4) VERY durable exterior.

Even with four years of heavy use, the bottom of the bag is only beginning to lose it's tough plastic shell, meaning the inner material is still going strong.

5) Zippers are dependable.

I've never had a problem with the zippers. I have a colorful strap that I use to identify my bag when zipping in a hurry, I've zipped over it by accident so many times and with enough force got it unstuck the zipper is still just as smooth and dependable as when I first bought it.

6) Wide opening.

When fully unzipped, it allows for a very wide opening to place all of your belongings inside.

7) Good padding.

Even after 4 years, I can still feel the soft padding. It does not go flat like other bags.

Cons

1) The front strap buckle is cheap plastic. It broke about a year in, carrying a very heavy bag. While not such a major big deal, it does make carrying 35-45 pounds of gear less comfortable and lets the bag swing from side to side when running. I have to hold the bag with my arm when I'm running so I don't get tossed around.

2) Inside material tough, but not indestructible. As with most bags, the inside individual compartments eventually give away. I only have a tiny whole between the 1st and 2nd compartments, so it's not so major.

All in all, a great and VERY dependable bag.

1/30/13

So my Backpack finally broke. Everything was fine, except for the main zipper where the teeth actually detached from the body of the bag. The bag still held everything in place even though the zipper was only closed on ONE side! However, because of possible wetness issues, I decided to buy a new one. So I bought a new one yesterday and it arrived today.

A lot of changes have happened. The second compartment no longer has a zipper within it. I use to really appreciate the double space in the second compartment. The right side of the bag no longer has a zipper compartment. My old one had a zipper compartment on both sides; this one only has it on the left side. The material still feels good and it should hold up for now. I'll update further is anything else changed in quality.

Have hauled it to work everyday, on airplanes, travel both domestically and abroad and almost everywhere I go. It holds everything I could possibly need on trip. Terrific as a carry one. Just saw someone who had the same one in Hong Kong. We both agreed what a great bag it is. Highly recommended. I'd love to get another, but this one never dies!

This is actually my 2nd one as I wore the first one out after about 5 years of heavy use. In that time it carried everything from laptops, electronics, and clothes to heavy groceries. When the last one died I tried several others as none of my local stores carried this backpack but they couldn't compare to the Targus so back they went. I've had the new one for around 4 months and all is good. If history repeats it self I have another 4 and a half years left of good use and knowing me it will get every bit of use possible out of it in that time.

I have a messenger bag that I've been using for my 13" MacBook air and it works great. The only issue is that it's a small bag that doesn't accommodate much extra. I found myself wanting a larger bag, but still relatively small so that I can carry my laptop, accessories, books, ... So I selected the Grove Bag from Targus. The price for the bag was great; when I got it is was about $33 and that included shipping. Note, I've only had this bag about a month, so I can't yet review it's durability.

PROS: So far I've liked the bag.There is plenty of space for my laptop, some books and all the usual accessories. I even put my lunch bag inside the backpack. The straps are sturdy and are comfortable when wearing. The material appears sturdy as well. There's an outside pocket on the side that can fit keys, sunglasses, etc. There's mesh pocket on the other side that will fit a water bottle or a small fold-up umbrella. There's a padded laptop section and several spots inside for all your stuff.

CONS: The one thing that could be improved is the padded laptop section. There's a strap that goes over the top of the laptop and connects to the padding with velcro. That's all fine, except the way the velcro is set up assumes a larger laptop, probably 15" at least. So my smaller laptop fits in the pocket, but the velcro fastener doesn't hold the laptop tightly in place. So far, it hasn't been a real problem, but I would prefer it be improved. The other negative was that the bag wasn't offered by Amazon, so I missed out on free shipping since my order contained the bag that was from another seller and other items from Amazon. It would have been cheaper if Amazon had the bag available.

Overall, I'm happy with the bag. I switch back and forth with the messenger as needed, but this larger bag does what I need.

Smart Buy Business Nylon Backpack

I bought this backpack 4 months ago to replace a briefcase style bag.

I have been very pleased with it. The construction is of sturdy black nylon throughout.

I use the two exterior pockets in the back for small headphones and a paint brush I use for dusting.

The first compartment has pen holders stitched in, so I use it to hold a legal pad holder and other office type things.

The next compartment has two dividers in the bottom third of the bag. One of the dividers is mesh with a zip top, so I use this compartment to hold a cd case, antenna. cords, flash drives and spare disks.

This compartment also has a slot to hold an MP3 player and a rubberized hole for a headphone cord.

The final compartment is sized to fit a 17.3 inch laptop. My Dell fits just fine. The bottom of this compartment is thickly padded to absorb shocks to your laptop.

The bag's hardware is all hard plastic like nylon. This initially worried me, but I have had no problems. Each of the three compartments is double zippered.

You can carry it with the handle on the top (I hang mine on a coat rack at work), you can carry it on one shoulder comfortably, or you can wear it as a normal backpack(it has padding against your back.

My only beef with the bag, is that all the compartment subdivisions I mentioned are in the bottom of the bag, so if you are putting in a lot of stuff, the bottom will become over full, while the top still has room to spare. Putting at least some pockets in the top third of the compartments will solve this, and I plan to do this.

Still, I don't see how you could get a better bag for under $35.00. HP did a good job.

The backpack is very sturdy and well made, it does not stick out like other backpacks yet is has plenty of space and pockets to pack things in and organize your stuff. I personally like the fact that it does not have flashy colors but has a low profile solid black color.

This is a solid buy and it won't set you back to much. No con's about it.

I bought this pack to use daily, It is a little soft for my use, I expected something a little stiffer. It is made well but the zippers are a lightweight plastic and I hope they hold out. The pouches work well for my use and there is plenty of room in the pack. It has two seperate compartments for large stuff and a pouch in the front section for a wallet or cell phone. It also has a pouch in the flap which works well for small items or wallet or cell.

Overall it is a good pack but I don't recommend this for kids. The zippers will not last and it is not designed for kids. Only for older teens or adults who will take care if it and not abuse it. I will get some good use out of it.

This bag when I received it was made well. Stitching is all complete (no loose threads hanging anywhere I could find) and there are plenty of compartments for all your gear. While I haven't stuffed it to the brim and taken it through a torrential downpour it has fit my needs for what I have used it for. I plan to spray it with some CampDry so it is more water resistant but other than that I am very pleased with this purchase.

This is a very cute piece of luggage that is deceptively roomy inside. When it arrived, it was very scratched but the seller was awesome and shipped out a new one right away (and just in time for our trip!). My daughter loves it and that is what counts!

Ohmetric 30076 Notebook Shoulder Case with Removable Workstation and Organizer

I have been using this bag daily for over a month now, and I have been very impressed with the thought that went into its design. Although aesthetically, there is nothing really notable about it, the quality and design of the bag are really exceptional. The interior is lined with bright green and grey nylon fabric, which makes pocket interiors very easy to see. The handle feels sturdier than any other bag I've ever owned, and is very comfortable to grip. The shoulder padding is fixed on the strap, and the strap length is adjustable from either side which allows you to place the strap exactly where you want it. The front clasp is also adjustable to make more room in the front pocket. A large pocket right behind the front flap is closed using only a stitched in magnet, which makes it perfect for keeping papers or a book for easy access. All interior and exterior lining is padded. Every seam and zipper feels very solid, and after a month or so of daily use, the bag looks and feels exactly as it did the day I bought it. I have flown with the bag too, and I can attest to Ohmetric's claim that it is great for getting through security.

There are only two negatives I've come across so far. The first is that in the main section there is a removable "organizer" with three pockets. The organizer is great, and fits all the computer stuff I need fine, but it faces inword, and so with the pockets full it can be a bit of a hassle sliding books in next to it. In order to fix this, I just put the organizer behind the document pocket instead of on the velcro, and that completely resolved the issue.

The second issue is that the metal clasps tend to squeak a bit when walking with a full bag. Some WD40 quieted things a bit, but not completely. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the bag, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good laptop work bag.

Purchased this to take my laptop, books, cables, papers, etc. on trips. It is just the right size to carry what I need not too small to carry a lot and not too big to be easy to handle. I do not use the organizer or workstation, but I can see how it would be useful to some. I also like the single handle (rather than 2) at the top much easier to grab and go. Lots of pockets and places to store things.

I am a woman who travels frequently for business. I have been looking for the perfect briefcase for my laptop. This is it. It slides on the handle of my rolling carryon suitcase. It has a nice area for a laptop (actually, I'm now using a netbook for travel). There is a side for files, a side for the powerstrips, mouse, recharger for cell phone, and that is stuck in with velcro so it is removable. There is even a secret zippered compartment. I love the green lining that makes the stuff that sifts to the bottom easy to find. It is very thoughtfully designed. I love it. So few things you buy are better than you expected. This is not just better -it is BEST!

But for frequent business travelers or commuters, the flaws are hard to ignore. Given the high MSRP & the large number of better cases out there, I see no reason to purchase this case unless it's at a steep discount. Even then, you might want to consider alternatives.

PROS:

++ Adequately sized for your laptop (up to 15.4 inch), accessories & documents

++ Decent quality exterior fabric that appears to be polyester or nylon, though it's not specified

++ The shoulder strap has an extra thick cushion for comfort

++ Rear flap allows you to secure the bag to your carry-on luggage handle

++ Buckles and strap loops are made from a sturdy metal, superior to the typical plastic

++ Light colored interiors (grey & green) make finding your things easier

++ Extra cushion provides protection to the laptop compartment

++ Nice extras, like a zippered document case and a magnetic clasp for the front pouch

++ Velcro straps to secure the mobile organizer

++ Rubber coated metal zipper pulls are sturdy

CONS:

-The mobile organizer and the hard-shell platform seem cheap and will likely be throw-away accessories for many

-Only has one handle! Consider the Ohmetric Notebook Briefcase with Removable Workstation and Organizer if you want two handles and like the set's features, but be warned that set is twice as much

-The bag tips over; rounded feet are poorly placed and are an unstable base for standing the bag up

-Front accessories pouch is too tight to squeeze things into and use efficiently

-There are no side pouches or zippered pockets; this standard feature is sorely missed on this bag

-Document pouch is too loose to hold documents, but too shallow to squeeze binders into

-No internal key rings or latches in the bag or mobile organizer

-No headphone port or MP3 player pouch, which almost all new bags include

-Despite being advertised as "checkpoint friendly," this case and it's accessories are designed so that TSA will still require you to remove your laptop for screening

-The listed MSRP is absurd given the overall cheap feel of the organizer & platform

CONCLUSION

This bag is functional and it does have some positives. But the cheap feel and gimmicky accessories are not consistent with the bag's high MSRP. Some design elements could have been improved to make this bag more functional for business travelers & commuters. You have to really study the product picture to realize this bag only has one handle. It seems to be sewn into the body well, but I'm still concerned it won't be durable enough for the harsh commuting & travelling I have to do.

In light of the many reservations I have about this bag, I would recommend that you review the alternatives. Some, like the Targus Checkpoint-Friendly Air Traveler Backpack actually provide the travel friendliness that this bag advertises. And if you need a shoulder bag, others like the Targus Metro Roller give you more storage and the added benefit of a luggage handle and wheels. Even more basic options like the Belkin 15.4-Inch Messenger Bag are worth considering. For the record, I own all of those bags and many others. The Ohmetric will not likely get much use on my future business trips. The platform & mobile organizer looked great in the product picture, but in person they look cheap & of limited use.
