Don't put a sack of potatoes in it, but I believe this bag's quality could take it. I really like this nice looking and well made bag. Perfect size, not too small, area at top with strong fish netting vents damp clothing or towels if you left the beach or gym. I ball it up and use it with my larger tote bag if I expect to leave the car with less stuff.

I bought this backpack for school. After an exhaustive search online, in local stores and across campus, I can definitively say that this is hands down the best laptop backpack you can buy!

Pros:

1. Tons of space and usable compartments:

1 padded laptop compartment

1 thin compartment that can be used for papers and folders

1 main compartment that contains vertical dividers to keep things organized, a smaller interior mesh pocket, and an ipod/cell phone pouch that leads to a slit in the top of the backpack for a headphone cord

1 decent sized pocket on each side (I use 1 for my laptop charger and accessories)

2 stretchy water bottle pockets big enough for the big 1 liter bottles (good for umbrella too)

1 small pocket on the top front

1 pocket on the bottom front that contains a bunch of small organizer pockets found in every backpack that nobody ever uses

2. Comfort: padded, shock absorbing arm pads, padded back, and a comfortable handle on top.

3. Appearance: In my opinion, this is one of the best looking backpacks out there, but I can't argue with taste so if you have one of those ugly backpacks, that's fine with me.

4. Price: Phenomenal deal! ($50 when I purchased it) Would have gladly spent more (don't tell amazon)

Cons: (there really are none... I'm nitpicking here)

1. The opening for the laptop is on the side (not the top) which makes it a little awkward to get in and out. Not a big deal though.

2. I would have liked a little more padding underneath the laptop. The amount of padding is pretty similar to most other laptop cases though. You just need to be careful about setting it down to hard.

3. The size was perfect for my 15.6 widescreen. I haven't tried a 17", but I'm guessing it would be too big (if you could get it to fit inside, it would be VERY tight)

I wanted to replace my husband's Targus shoulder laptop bag because it was just way too heavy (even when empty). I decided to get this backpack for his 17" Macbook Pro. The description says it holds up to 15", but I felt confident that it would fit his 17" because I tried stuffing his laptop in my 15" SwissGear backpack and it fit perfectly. Sure enough, this bag also fits the 17". I also wanted to mention that I was looking at other SwissGear laptop bags in the $50 range at Target and there's a huge difference in material and quality compared to this one. Although Amazon sells this for $50 (at least when I got it), I feel that it's worth more a lot more. But I'm not complaining about the price ;)

I bought this item so I could reduce the wear and tear on my back and neck. The first day I used it, I pulled the adjustment piece on the strap and without much effort the piece of hardware came off. Want to make a fashion statement? Looking for something to coordinate with this year's "in" color? Going to fish for compliments while you strut down the sidewalk? This is not your backpack. I have had this thing since 2010 and it's been stowed in the car, in numerous overhead bins, under the seat, in the closet. All the while it has protected my laptop and the rest of the contents well. I have zero complaints about this backpack and I would absolutely buy it again. The separate pocket for a laptop has been a great feature during airport security screens. Also the size and shape of the numerous pockets has been a big help. I've even found use for the carabiner. The handle on top is great, too. I never fumble for it and the grip is extremely secure. For me it's just the right size to pull out from under the seat in front on a plane, tuck it behind my knees, and stretch out a little after takeoff. After 6 plane trips, a bunch of car rides, and just general tossing around it shows zero wear. Buy it.

I bought this bag for an upcoming trip to Ireland but it has been in constant use since I unpacked it. It is large enough to hold all my credit cards, my cell phone, glasses and soft case, check book, pens and pencils, cash and even my point and shoot camera (though that made it bulge a bit much). Small enough to fit inside what I consider a medium sized hand bag. The main inside compartments are secured with a zipper, there is also a unzippered compartment behind that and another zippered compartment on the back. I has a nice long strap (quite sturdy) that fits over even my bulky body. Not exactly an evening bag but would work for all but the most dressy occasions.

I absolutely love this bag! It is everything it says and more. It has held up now with daily use for several years. The color is beautiful, inside and out. I get compliments on it all the time. It holds so much. Perfect to carry on its own or drop into my tote bag. Sturdy handles and closures. This is one of the best bags I have ever owned.

My 4 year old niece is really into puppies. She LOVED this gift. It is so cute! These bags worked great for Disney! If you have wet clothes to change out of the bag is very breathable. Also has a nice zipper pouch for keys, money, or anything else!! Way better to use this type of bag with a drawstring and only one zipper as getting searched upon entering parks was a breeze. The security guards loved them made getting in painless. Highly recommend for this reason especially!

Marmot Crampon / Skin Pocket

Eagle Creek Travel Gear Pack-It Mud Box

I bought this product to put my Teva Men's Churn Performance Water Shoes in after they're wet, to avoid getting anything else wet and/or muddy as the case may be. The Mud Box works well for this function, and when zipped closed it holds the moisture inside. It is lined with a "tough hydro-tech TPU material" to keep water and mud inside and resist it leaking through, and the top has a "link-seal mesh." Essentially the top is plastic on the inside and netting on the outside. I don't know what purpose the outside netting serves, but regardless the Mud Box keeps water and mud inside of it. The handle on top makes it easy to grab and carry, making it simple for me to carry my shoes without having to hold them separately. For comparison purposes, I have found that the small Mud Box is exactly the right length and width for my size 13 water shoes to be packed comfortably in it. They are not loose and bouncing around and they are not hard to put in. There is about a 1.5-inch depth left with the shoes in it. If you are using this for your clothes or gear then that should give you an idea of the capacity of it. Because the Mud Box is lightweight, it essentially weighs as much as what you put in it as you carry it around. Overall if you need an easy-to-carry container that won't leak for your wet, muddy, or dirty clothes or gear when you're in the field, the Eagle Creek Pack-It Mud Box is a good item to try out. Please check the photo I submitted for an even better idea of what the Mud Box is like.

I traveled to a family reunion with an elderly relative. Had packed my mud box to store my shoes in my pack. My relative had an episode of incontinence, and had brought a baggie for underwear, but not for the set of clothes that got wet. Once again I am very pleased with my purchase from Amazon. The Fireman Sam Backpack as made my grandson very happy, and he will have many days, weeks, months, and years to enjoy it .

A school folder wont actually fit inside this. If your child only needs to bring a snack and maybe something else small to school with them it would be fine, but its really too small for any real school use.

Construction is average. Since my son couldnt use it for school he uses it to play sometimes and its showing signs of wear and tear pretty readily.

The best use for this would be for play and maybe pre-school where your child is only bringing snack and tissues to school or something.

Great product and kept my money, passport and other items dry during a kayaking and snorkeling trip in the Bahamas.

Brought this bag on a trip to Costa Rica and it was great for white water rafting, waterfall climbing, cave exploring, and just going to the beach. Contents stayed dry through pretty much anything. You have to buy an additional shoulder strap to attach on your own since the bag has attachments for a shoulder strap, it would be nice if the bag included the shoulder strap. That's my only complaint though otherwise, would highly recommend this bag for anyone going on water activities.

This is an outstanding bag for day-to-day commutes or a day hiking trip. The next larger size requires a titanium frame. The next smaller is too small for books and perhaps a laptop. There is none of necessary padding or straps needed for a laptop. What sold me on the bag when I picked it out in Cabelas was the number of pockets.

Here's the pros:

* 4 front compartments: a divided main, large one; one small one the size of a coat pocket and a larger, divided one in between;

* 2 huge cargo zippered side pockets; I keep spare glasses, a medical kit and pills and such in each of these;

* 2 side web pockets; I keep sugar, cool aid, sweet&low, sanitary wipes and glass cleaner wipes in these easy-grab pockets;

* 2 large hand straps for grabbing--one on top (see picture) and one in front(shown in picture);

* Easy-use belt strap --you'll find this useful if you have back problems because this back can carry close to 100 lbs.;

* Easy-reach tighten straps for the shoulder straps --keep it loose, then pull; and,

* Several hooking points inside the large bag and the middle bag for tieing in things that could fall out.

Here's the negative points:

* Nylon inside the side panels (behind the cargo side pockets) is not very tough; I tore it after 6 months;

* The large pocket (main) has a weather protective strip protecting the zipper --it snagged within a few days ---I cut it off;and

* Reflectors on the pack would be useful for those who commute.

I got this backpack b/c I wanted a backpack to travel with that wasn't a huge obnoxious big framed camping/hiking back. I think it is as big of a pack as you can get w/o getting into the top-loading lid ones, and it has the "look" of a normal book backpack. I recently used it for a 12 day trip around Turkey. It was the only bag I took and I was able to put it in the overhead compartment of the plane and it traveled well w/ bus, taxi, dolmus, ferry, and train travel. Granted, I am a minimalist, and a great packer... but I was able to fit plenty in there for the duration of the trip (about 8 tops, thin sweatshirt, sandals, 6 shorts/capris, sweatpants... plus personal items and 2 books). The zipper panal to the main compartment opens wide enough that you can load it like a suitcase/front loader versus top-loading. I took the aluminum stay out since my frame is slightly smaller than the torso/frame range they recommended, and it worked fine. This is overall a nice and versatile quality pack!

Ok, I have had this bag for a month now so I thought I would write about it. I bought this bag mainly for use on my 60 mile daily commute via public transit. Let me tell you, it's big! It is way bigger than I normally need, but that's a plus for me as hate carrying multiple items and wanted it big enough to carry my coat inside. So it's roomy and very comfortable, is very adjustable and can handle a serious load. The craftsmanship is good, the materials are good, and the amount of usable pockets is good. And, most important for me, I am a big guy, and it fits comfortably. If you are under 180lbs, this thing is probably too big for you for daily use. My only issue has been the main compartment zipper is a little stiff and catches up on the zipper cover.

Just finished a month long backpacking trip of Europe using this bag, and it worked wonderfully. Biggest benefits I found with it were the front load, simple compartments, adjustable/bendable internal frame, great hip support, and its ability to expand and collapse. I too used it as a carry-on. I had plenty of room left over, and the stuff I carried:

3 pants (trail, jeans, track), 4 shirts (2 long, 2 short), and 7 pairs socks/underwear.

2 books and travel guides

toiletries, food, and little things

Don't buy a massive backpack. This is perfect size, has room to spare, and it's very adjustable.

I got this pack for backpacking trips with my Boy Scout troop. I'm just on the south side of 50 and need to start lightening the load to keep up, so I went for a smaller (than I've used in the past) pack that would force me to keep my gear to only what I really need. Took it on the first trip with the boys a couple of weekends ago and was very pleased. I got my pack weight (w/o food and water down to under 25 pounds with tarp and only a little more with tent. This is definitely a pack for going lighter it wouldn't do well with more than 30 lbs. (but then again, neither do I anymore).

Lots of pockets, attachment points, well-constructed, and a great price, especially on sale. I looked at many other much more expensive packs by some big-name makers and would still have chosen the Redwing 3100 even if it cost as much as those others. It really was exactly what I was looking for for two night weekend trips its size is just enough if you really do commit to minimalist/lightweight. (I still have four other packs for longer trips or for when my wife goes with me and I need to carry a bigger load.) I have not used it for travel yet, but I have a trip to Colorado for the USAFA graduation (my nephew) next month and might give it a try for my carry-on rather than my rolling duffle.

18 months on: This is not very well constructed. First zipper pull fell off after a few months, second one fell off after a few months more, the zipper protector started to get holes in it at around a year, and now one of the zippers is stuck, although not obviously on anything. Replaced it with what I probably should have bought in the first place, a Brain Cell from Tom Bihn.

Original comments: It's a sleeve. Not all that exciting. It looks decent enough without going crazy. The laptop has been nice and safe in it. Been on an airplane without taking the MacBook out of the sleeve through security a bunch of times, so that seems to work. I can be a little rough with the cases but there's not a single mark on it. And the fabric inside to protect the notebook from the zipper seems to work well. Also if I recall this sleeve was modestly priced, which is nice.

Incase Nylon Campus Backpack

This is one of the best backpacks I've ever had. I did a lot of research since I wanted something that was slim, no-nonsense, sans bells and whistles, and clean and professional. This was dead on the money for all of those things. All the pockets are in the right places, the laptop container is plenty big for anything up to a 15" MacBook Pro, and it even has space for an iPad or a few important folders. Buy this bag if some or all of these things are important to you.

A few very minor gripes: The nylon part of the strap (below the padded shoulder part) is pretty slippery, and it's bound to shift lengths from where you've adjusted it, even if you wrap it through more than once. I fixed it with some safety pins...no big deal. I also had a zipper handle come off the lanyard part that attaches to the actual zipper mechanism, but a little Gorilla Glue fixed it...also no big deal.

Finally, the other day, I slipped on a smooth floor and fell straight on my back, landing on the backpack with my MacBook Pro inside. I weigh 200 pounds. Nothing happened. My computer is fine. Amazing. Buy it.

I bought this bag thinking that the fushia color would be a pinkish...well no dice. This bag is a weird color of bright purple. The closest color I can compare it to is Barney the Dinosaur. Google it. Yep--That color.

Great functioning bag though, wonderfully thought-out pocket placement, and the nylon material could probably survive a zombie apocalypse.

I have been using a JanSport bag for the last 4-5 years. It has been working ok, but since now I'm doing my masters, I need to carry my Macbook pro with me all the time. I had one of those sleeves for my laptop, but with a notebook and some other stuff the Jansport bag would get heavy. I am not sure why but with this bag, I'm carrying the same stuff + a big book and I don't feel that it's heavy.

If you want a bag like a JanSport that you can put a whole lot of things, this is not the bag for you. It has a very limited space, and very inflexible for that matter. But if you want to carry your laptop, and a couple of books then definitely go for this bag.

I gave 4 stars because the color looks much lighter in the pictures. The actual color is dark gray, and the inside is blue..

Nike Brasilia 5 X-Small Duffel Grip

X-small duffel bag was the perfect size for my gym care. At first I thought it would have been too small but it was just right. Ventilated side is good for shoesand sweaty gears. Unbelievable spacious. Looks very cool.

Nike Brasilia Duffel is good for the price. It was smaller than I thought which is awesome since I was looking for a compact duffel i can carry around to work, gym, tennis without it getting in the way while walking through doors and corridors. Stitching is clean and construction is sturdy. Design is simple and can fit most essentials.

However, if I were to recommend anything to the designers of this bag, it would be:

1. Please add more storage compartments I usually carry my phone, wallet, money and small toiletries in this bag. Everytime, I open the side pocket, everything spills out. Also, since this is usually used with sports, there needs to be a compartment that may allow storage for a water bottle.

2. Perhaps some padding for the shoulder strap although this doesn't cause any discomfort at all, it maybe more comfortable when carrying this thing for longer distances and with heavier weight.

Otherwise, this duffel bag is perfect for everyday use.

I'm stunned at out how incredibly cheaply this bag is made. The fabric is uber thin, the stitching done badly (strings hanging off, seams don't quite line up, cheesy shoulder strap). And it REEKS of chemicals. But the style is the perfect size and shape for my workout needs. :-( A shame, I wish it was strong enough to be my permanent bag, but it will clearly be something to tide me over till I find something that's not going to rip.
