Buying a good backpack is surprisingly difficult. Maybe I'm just picky, but I had a hard time finding one that had enough pockets, a large enough main compartment and separate laptop compartment, was big enough but not too big, and was somewhat cool looking. So I was really excited to find this one, which had some really neat features and was unique enough to justify the price. After about two weeks of light school use, though, the fabric on the straps started fraying. Amazon's customer service is great, I was able to return the product and buy a different bag with no problem. I was just disappointed that this one didn't work out.

Dakine Varial Pack

this backpack is my perfect except one small thing. The zipper for the outside compartment where the board is slung is really weak. I have used the board carriers mybe a dozen times and i can see my griptape has eaten part of the zipper material complete through, and i am worried if i put on there a few more times its going to be ruined.

Other than that the backpack is great, it is compact when i have little to nothing in it and can accomodate alot of stuff if need be, especially for a smaller backpack. Great style and construction except for that dang zipper

I've had two of these so far. The first one I owned worked well for about a year (used it as a school bag), and then the sunglasses pocket zipper broke. It had a lifetime warranty, so I went to the store and got another one for free. A few months later, the same zipper broke. But I wasn't able to replace it because Dakine had changed their rule for their lifetime warranty (apparently now you need a warranty card to replace it). I kept using the backpack, and then the main zipper broke. Dakine's stitching is awful, and they trick their customers into believing their "Lifetime Warranty".

Well for any die hard combat grunt or veteran this is the pack to have. A vest integrated with a nice size pack. Wish I had this in Iraq. There is one flaw the pack isn't water proof but all u need to do is by waterproofing spray an u be set. Now the flaw is none of the threads have been heat treated so I'll have to burn of some ends an what.not. main thing is by a good size bottle of gorilla glue an a pin strip paint brush. Then put a nice coat of gorilla glue on all the threading an seems. I've done this to the vest an main points inside the bag. The gorilla glue is water proof am very tough it gives the thread a nice strong bonding while keeping it protected from wear an tear after u have applied it to all the bag. U now have a pack tht is 95% indestructible except for the material tht makes the bag. Which will probably wear down before ur seems an thread wear down. I had to get a replacement the first one because I took my pack everywhere an could alrewsee key points coming apart. Thts why u r better off applying a nice coat of gorilla glue to all then threading an seems to ensure maximum performance an life span of ur pack.

I have a huge laptop and this fits it perfectly. It is comfortable to carry and distributes the weight of the laptop and school books evenly. I can get 1-2 textbooks in here with a notebook, the power adapter and a wireless mouse plus all the items that normally are in my purse. Lastly the inside is a light colored fabric and this makes it easy to see inside the bag and all the way to the bottom.

I took my time and looked endlessly for a replacement backpack when my last one died. i wanted something that keeps up with me....i don't coddle anyone or anything and pack it like i am leaving the country (i.e., i take "everything but the kitchen sink" with me!!) but all the backpacks that looked like they could stand abuse weren't "girly" -i wanted something "cute". this backpack holds a ton of stuff including my laptop, ipad and keyboard, makeup, lotions, lunch, cellphone, books, binders, gloves, hat, scarf, sweater...it is durable, has been through wet weather (nothing got wet inside)..it is definitely feminine, it is distinctive -i get compliments from both men and women -and it looks EXACTLY like it did when i took it out of the box....i take a bus, a train and a bus to school --and back--and go grocery shopping every night after school. it keeps up with me and doesn't show any wear and tear over that fact. i know this backpack is going to last a very long time and would buy it again and again and again. thanks amazon!

Frommer's Echo Laptop Backpack

I'm kind of a Lug girl and this is my most recent addition. I got it because I was starting a new job which requires taking a laptop daily. This bag is great because there's a place for everything. My laptop is protected, my mouse and cords all have pockets, i have spots for Advil, my wallet, plenty of room for things *besides* my laptop in the main compartment, and even an easy access place for my cel phone on the shoulder strap.

I got it in plum so it's more girly and stands apart from the army of black Targus backpacks. The one thing I would change is the Frommers logo on the bag I like to be a billboard for Lug :-)

I really loved the backpack when I first got it, but after less than a year it's already falling apart. It has weak seams, and is ripping at multiple places. this is probably the shortest life-span I've experienced with a backpack, and I don't even carry my laptop all too often in it. For the price, I don't think you get the longevity you'd want in a school backpack.

Gregory Fury 40 Backpack

I've had this pack out twice now, and I'm delighted with it. Very comfortable loaded up to 27 lbs or so (maybe more -haven't tried). No bottom or side access to the main compartment, but lots of very functional exterior pockets. Gregory packs tend to fit a more curved spine like mine better than any other brand I've tried, and that's true for the Fury.

I currently have a Z35 backpack which I really LOVE. I wanted just a little more room and I wanted to keep the handy outside pocket, but the new Z40 does not have it, so I bought this. It looks like the Z35 in the picture, but it arrived in a glorified garbage bag that was about 1X2 feet in size. That's because there is NO support NO frame in the back at all. This pack is NOTHING more than a glorified duffel bag! I returned it immediately. I wander what Gregory is thinking when they made this thing! Your back will sweat like crazy with this thing.

I looked all over the web looking for pictures of this pack, and there are almost none out there that show the pack pannel. I guess this is on purpus, so DONT BUY IT TILL YOU TRY IT AT A STORE.

If your from Gregory I think your marketing is a terrible. The information on your website is very limited and your product line needs to be more organized. Why did you make a Z40 that looks like the Z35 but completely do away with the expandable pocket? Why not simply make a larger Z35 which is your best-selling backpack. Instead of like a backpack you make it like a piece of luggage! The Jade 34 is make just like the Z40 but the Jade 40 is made like the Z35???

OverBoard Adventure Duffel Bag

I bought this bag about two years ago. It is amazing, especially for the price. I work offshore on a boat and sometimes have to do boat to boat transfers that can soak our bags. My stuff stays dry in this bag (probably not the choice for full immersion, I have true dry bags for kayak trips, etc.). I was surprised by how good the quality of the stitching, zippers, fabric, etc. was, considering it was about 1/3 or less of the price of a North Face bag, which I was really considering hard. It's a good sized bag, but if not stuffed totally full I've got it on as carry on luggage many times (flexible bags fit more places, ya'know). Anyway, I don't post reviews very often, but love this bag!!!

The first time I used this bag it leaked and everything inside got wet. I used it exactly as they advertised it, for "light splash" conditions. I contacted the manufacturer and here is a direct quote from their reply: "It's not really meant to be waterproof, just water resistant, for if it gets splashed, where no water would get near the seams." Talk about false advertising! It's "water resistant" (Amazon's ad says "waterproof")as long as the splash doesn't touch the seams? They should be ashamed.

This is my out of box review for the overboard-adventure 90 duffel (with backpack straps):

NOTE: I've had a North Face Base-Camp Medium bag (that is VERY similar) for over 5 years and it has been extremely good to me. I wanted to get a gift for a friend and I thought the north face bag would be great.... but too much $$$ (I'm all about frugality). I love the North Face and will use it as a reference-point to my review.

Out of the box the bag felt a bit thinner than the North Face. Very shiny too, ha. I figure the shine will blemish a bit with time and wear. It's a gift to a girl though, so I think she'll like the shiny. I'm interested in how this bag will hold up to getting tossed around in cars, airplanes, boats, beaches, forests, etc...

Also are a few minor scuffs on it, but I'm not going to complain (unless quality comes into question at a later date at which point I will update the review). My North Face has survived several trips though airport security and is getting pretty banged up which is making it a better-looking bag! Also, with the price I paid, I can deal with a few scuffs that would end up happening anyway.

Right away, I stuffed this bag full of pillows to get a feel for how big it is 90L is BIG. North Face is a little smaller. As far as getting this thing into overhead airplane bins, I don't think it will be a problem so long as it's not stuffed (I like to carry-on).

The shoulder straps were easy to put on. Took a little arranging to keep them from sliding when I picked it up to my shoulders. No big deal. 15 seconds later and they're tight and secured.

Will update as needed. Like it lots thus far

Dakine Terminal Pack

I really like this backpack. I did a lot of research before getting this one so here are my thoughts after having it for 7 monts or so. It can definitely hold a lot of stuff, the computer and inside computer/tablet pockets are very nice. Having only one main pocket makes it hard to divide up things like dirty/clean clothes if that's something important to you. Also, the zippers don't zip very far down so there is often digging required for something at the bottom. The other pockets on the outside are very convenient and well placed. One main problem I noticed is if the main pocket of the bag is stuffed full, the two side pockets are pretty much worthless because they are expandable into and not out of the bag. So far I have used it for school, taken it on a backpacking trip to other countries, and used it as a day bag. It's held up well with only some threads coming loose on the water bottle pocket. Very comfortable and stylish. Definitely recommend it.

Bought this for the wife. She can destroy most anything. It has held up well. Better built than anything else I have tried

Eagle Creek Travel Gear Pack-It Folder 18

In researching the pack it folder before I purchased it, I came across many many reviews that claimed this was one of the best packing products there was. Having used this folder as a part of my Eagle Creek pack it set on a week long trip I can vouch for how great it really is. The included folding board makes loading the folder very easy. It is very nice to have your suitcase compartmentalized, especially when you have to get something from the bottom or repack. The folder along with the other pack it items turn the empty hole of a suitcase into a very organized space. Thanks to the folder and pack it system I was able to pack a weeks worth of clothes into a 22" suitcase without coming close to blowing out the zippers. I will never travel again without the pack it folder.

This is my second Eagle Creek folder. I now have the 18 and the 20. The 20 is a touch to big to fit into a 21" carry on, but the 18 is perfect. Fits a weeks worth of business casual clothes and takes up no room. Now I show up with less bulk and less wrinkles.

So having read many great reviews on this item, I decided to purchase it just prior to a two week trip. I have a 22inch roller and my goal was to be able to pack for two weeks and not check a bag. To be realistic, I was able to comfortably fit 4 dress shirts, 2 pairs of pants, and a pair of jeans. I generally like the product and I think it does what it's advertised to do. I do have two caveats that I think anyone should consider before purchasing.

1. One of the major "features' of this product is that your clothes don't get wrinkled. The idea is that the compression of the material and the direction for laying out your clothes allows the material to remain immobile, therefore preventing wrinkles. However, this really assumes that the folder is the last thing you put in your suitcase and thus there is no pressure being exerted. The way I pack, there is so much pressure on the pack-it that all my clothes get the crease lines from the folds. When I fold my shirts normally, I do two folds, half the long way and half the short. This creates two creases max. The pack-its creates 5 creases and as a result it actually makes my clothes more wrinkly sometimes.

2. The second feature is reducing volume. What you may not consider is that the because the pack-it is shorter than a 22inch roller length-wise, you actually created a shorter fold, thus increasing over height of your stack. I did an experiment and because of the rigidity of the pack-it, it actually increased my volume instead of decrease.

So those are my two caveats. Great product, but I'm pretty sure after a little while, I'm just going to go back to folding my shirts and putting them in my case without this.

I have to preface this to say that I love bags and things that are well designed. I originally bought this to keep my suit nicely folded on a trip to a research conference, which it did beautifully. Now I use it on all my trips. It keeps clothes so nicely folded, and it's easier to organize and see what you have packed and sort through it without having to hover over a huge suitcase. I recommend it, especially to keep everything organized for longer trips (it also helps me fit more stuff in my suitcase).

I ordered this for my daughter. She picked it out. The backpack arrived folded in half. The product is stiff and the material is very thin. I've never seen a backpack this stiff before. It has a horrible odor inside. I don't know if it's from a water repellent or something but it smells. I'm still airing it out. I wouldn't let my child use it yet. I bought this bag because wanted something slightly smaller for either just a one night away or be my second bag with wheels. I needed something easier to get into the overheard on flights. I haven't had an oppotunity to travel with it yet but the height that the handle lifts to is good and I'm a tall person. It seems like it's exactly what I'm looking for but I can't tell you how it performs yet or how the wheels last on it. May 2013 update. Took my first overnight with it. It did just fine through 4 airports and was much lighter to pick up and place in the overhead. It still didn't fit well in one overhead (small plane) so I had to check it just once at the gate. The handle is a very good length for me. It doesn't lock and goes down into the bag without any struggle.

Piel Leather Top Opening Computer Backpack

I purchased this bag primarily to carry my work laptop as I am an Internal Auditor who needs to be on the road a bit. I liked the look of the bag and the leather seemed to be of very good quality. However I am about 6'2" and the back pack looks a little smaller than I expected . The compartment for the laptop does not have much cushioning. The padding on the straps is quite good however after just a few trips with the laptop they are visible sings of strain where the straps attach to the top of the bag. I still think it is good backpack but I am considering giving it to my wife an getting something a little bigger and sturdier.

Got this backpack set for my oldest son for starting first grade this year. He loved it when it got here and still loves it. I am pretty impressed with its build quality. High Sierra Access Backpack

The Access Day Pack by High Sierra is one of the best Back Pack/Day Packs I have ever owned. It is VERY roomy and has plenty enough space to store just about anything. I frequently travel with 2 laptops a sizable 3 ring binder, several hand held radios and at least one camera. This means that I not only need a lot of space I need a bag that will support the weight of the gear. After 3 years of continual use only a few stitches are coming loose on the shoulder straps.

The Access Day Pack, has been great! Although it is not waterproof, it comes with its own rain coat that covers the bag just in case you get caught in undesirable weather. I thought that was a cool feature!

I also an not a big fan of pre-sized pockets and pouches as they never fit my stuff. However the pockets in this bag are really good size and can hold most cellphones or 2-way radios.

The things I would change about the bag are:

1) The top MP3 style pocket. It is big enough to hold your iPod but if you put much else in it you run out of room quickly.

2) I would add another "water bottle" holder on the left side. These pockets are always useful and having a second one would only make this bag that much better.

3) I would add a rubberized waterproof bottom to the bag. If you set it down in a wet area for very long the water will soak through.

I bought this backpack for my tour of Europe. I tour cities in bursts of 2-3 days so this pack has to hold my things for 2-3 days.

Pros:

1. It has many pockets for all kinds of gadgets or items you may have.

2. The bottle holder is far better than in any previous backpack i have owned. It has a zipper to it so you can tighten the bottle agaist the pack to hold it down.

3. It has a rain cover. I haven't needed to use it yet but im sure that day will come.

4. The laptop padding is good. I have had the pack tip over and fall on the floor. The laptop was protected each time.

5. The pack has padding for your back as well. However, there is a con here that ill explain further down.

6. The pack is spacious and wide enough for my dslr camera bag. This is a big plus for me.

Cons:

1. The padding for your shoulders and back has a tendency to cover air flow and makes you sweat. The pack is advertised to have good air flow but this is not true in my experience.

2. The wait strap is excessive and unnecessary in my opinion. My pack is never heavy enough to need it.

3. The pack is advertised to be able to hold upto 17in. laptops but i have serious doubts about that. My 15.4in widescreen laptop fits snugly and hangs out of the top of the covering a good bit. The dimensions of my laptop are the following: 14.25" x 10.55" x 1.54"

Overall a very good pack, best i've had yet.

This is one of the most durable backpacks I have ever owned! I bought it for college, because as an engineer I carry around waaay too many thick heavy books. This bag has been great for walking long-distance with heavy books, biking with heavy books, and carrying heavy groceries home from the store. :D Could be used as a daypack for short hikes, more comfy than many bags, but probably not as comfortable as a dedicated backpacking bag. I am a skinny woman, and this bag was able to size comfortably for me, but my 6'2" husband can adjust all the straps for him too.

The hip strap is well made, and padded so that it is actually comfortable with 50+ lbs of books weighing it down. Can't emphazise how comfortable the hip strap is!

The laptop gets it's own padded compartment in the main pocket, and it is tall enough for 17" laptops. I use it for a 15", and the sides are fine, so I don't know how the sides on a 17" would be, but I expect it will fit fine. Has a nice clip to keep it from bouncing around.

The second (big) pocket out is for shorter items, but from outside is deceptively large because in fact there is a third almost hidden pocket in front of it. The third pocket has a size zip entrance, so it's not very good for books or papers. I don't use it for much except sometimes an extra shirt, or scarf and hat, things like that. If short on space though, remember it's there. The outermost pocket is great for pencils, bus schedules, combs, flat stuff. I use the mp3/cd player pocket for my laptop mouse.

The "suspension system" on the shoulder straps actually has a span of tough elastic in between shoulders and bag. I think it makes the bag ride softer on your shoulders... but also makes it a little more bouncy.

The rain fly is VERY effective, although when not using it is more heavy than you might think. I had a hard time folding it back up to fit in it's underneath pocket. Without the fly, the bag can take 1 hour of medium rain and keep your books dry. Although the laptop zipper will leak and soak the top of the bag a couple inches down, it didn't reach my laptop because the bag is tall. Fly is bright yellow, it also doubles to make you somewhat more visible when biking in the dark. (Not reflective)

I've reviewed this pack for the Black color High Sierra Access Backpack after borrowing it from a friend for travel. I'm a large guy so I had it packed to the hilt, with 2 laptops and the gear to support, some mags and books some gifts and other stuff and the zippers worked easily no stressing.

When I returned I had about 1/3 what I took with me and it was compact like a day pack by pulling the reinforcement straps tight and its small again.

I used the rain cover when I landed in Hono cause we walked in rain to our gate. Nothing got wet. In the hotel i had to dry out the cover before I let it get packed away.

This pack is under advertised and under rated. Sellers I hope you like the photos, buyers I hope the photos answer any questions.

So I originally bought this bag to carry my large lap top, camera, eternal hard drive and what ever else I needed to haul back and forth from work home. It has been absolutely great for that, no complaints at all. have plenty of room of many other things as well such as sandals and a sweater. The weight is distributed nicely and has been a very sturdy.

Reciently I was invited to go on a 2 day hike throught the jungle (I live in costa rica) and the only back pack I had was this one. I thought it might be two small at first but I was able to pack very comfortably:

1 fleece balket

1 mosquito net

1 large first aid kit

1 pair of sport sandels

1 poncho

1 change of clothes

extra socks and underwear

enough food for 2 days

small bag with toiletries

a flash light and 1 sweater

I walked for 8 hour the first day and my shoulders were not hurting at all, the weight was very well distributed and the shoulder straps were very comfortable. The only thing was one part of the sternum straps fell off and was lost, but that I believe was because i snagged it on something and did not notice.

every one on this trip admired my bag and said it was the perfect size. In the end I was almost disappointed it did not rain, because I really wanted to whip out the awesome rain protection this bag has which I have to say was the feature that won me over when I bought the bag.
