This case is perfect. I just needed something streamlined to put my 11.6 Acer in, so that I could throw it in my bag without scratches. This case is perfect. It has straps inside and an oyster shell design so that the netbook can be used while in the case (though not for too long bc of overheating possibilities). The outer and inner pockets make the case extremely convenient, and I'm fairly certain this is the only case my netbook will ever need. The neoprene isn't overly thick, but I'm not planning on throwing my computer around recklessly, so I'm not looking for a battle-ready armored case. This case suits my needs exactly.

I bought this case for my 11.6" Acer Aspire One about a month and a half ago. The case protects my laptop really well, and the pockets are great for the accessories I have. I keep it in my backpack or carry it around for the most part, so I'm not sure if it would protect my laptop if I dropped it, but it's pretty cushioned. The only problem I've had so far is the rubber part of one of the zippers coming off, but I just duct taped it back on, so it's fine.

I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. I only needed a case in order to carry my new Asus 11.7" laptop around. I wanted something cute. I wanted something soft. I wanted something small.

This fit the bill perfectly. I couldn't be more pleased. The quality seems totally up to par. The front pockets look small, but it's neoprene, so they stretch like nylon. The cords, cards, mouse, and styluses fit inside the front pockets easily.

Do not, however, use your laptop while still in this case. It doesn't breathe.

Highly recommend for light use and storage.

Osprey Stratos 26 Backpack

Amazing pack. Good storage options internal and external. This provides great flexibility to wherever you may wander. Pack is extremely stable once you tighten up straps. Has many bells and whistles I didn't even know about. A whistle built in to the chest harness buckle/clip. Walking stick, or trek pole holder on lower left, then another holder to left and lower so you can keep your gear out of your own way when not needed. Great pack for hydration needs. I used an older other brand hydration bladder, and had ice cold water for myself and others all day. The mesh back really keeps you cooler since there is good air-flow/space between yourself and the pack. Very light pack. Superb materials. Very thoughtfully designed pack. I now have two Osprey packs, and plan to get more to replace briefcases, gym bags, camera bags, etc. Go ahead and be adventurous.

I never write customer reviews, but this is the exception. I recently returned from a 6-day bicycle trip to Tuscany (rode from Florence to Siena; stopping along the way in Castellina, Radda and Greve in Chianti and San Gimignano) and since I didn't want to hire a firm to move my baggage, I looked for a suitable backpack. After exploring disappointing options from Ortlieb and a few others, I came across the Osprey Stratos 26 Backpack. By far, this is the *best* purchase I've made in recent memory! It was absolutely perfect for my bicycle trip. I was on a roadbike and after the first day, I never felt that I was wearing this pack. It molded perfectly to my back and it easily held 4 days of light clothing and a pair of shoes. Even tacking the numerous 10km climbs in Tuscany, the pack would remain snug on my back, never shifting and there wasn't anything "sticking" out into the wind. Moreover, on the last day of the ride, it rained in biblical proportions and with the integrated raincover, everything inside the pack was dry including my iPad. If you're looking for an excellent pack (good for bicycling and hiking), this is the one you want to buy; seriously.

Marmot Ultra Kompressor Pack

I bought this as a gift for a friend and he loves it. He says it is the perfect day trip pack around the city and for shorter, 1 to 2 day, trips in the countryside. Very well made.

Not very spacious for travel, but this is a good bag for multi-day hikes. The size is a little misleading, and you cant really tell by looking at the pictures. They make it look a lot bigger than it actually is. Marmot should provide some size specs in the page.

Kelty Wing Backpack

The good: The pack looks great and the stitching quality seems quite strong. Lots of pockets make it easy to organize. I got rained one one evening, and the contents stayed nice and dry.

The bad: Not deal-breakers, but things I wish I had known (or thought about) before I purchased. Most are related to my personal use case, so may not apply to you.

The shoulder straps meet fairly close together at the top of the pack. This is how vintage packs were made, so it helps with that 70s-80s look... but theres a reason modern packs have the straps spaced fairly widely.

The nylon seems strong but lightweight, so the bag does not have a lot of structure. Without the semi-rigid panel in the back, it would collapse into a puddle of nylon when empty. The bottom of the bag sags under heavy loads, and it tips over when set on the ground. (My previous bag was a Timbuk2 laptop pack which was structured to the point where it held its shape when empty, and stood up on its own when loaded.)

The laptop sleeve is quite deep and has a very long retaining strap (which I can't imagine why anyone would need, unless you plan on carrying the pack upside down). This strap has vey sticky velcro on it which adheres to the adjustable panels inside, so you end up having to wrestle with the bag to get your laptop out. It can be comically frustrating at times.

You should buy this pack for its great style, but be aware of its limitations. It is not a modern pack, so it doesn't have a lot of the ergonomic qualities people expect today. It would only be well suited to people who do not need to carry very heavy loads. If you're looking for a college book bag and need to carry lots of heavy textbooks, you might want something with a bit more structure. If money was no object, I'd get a Goruck GR-2. In the same price range as the Kelty Wing I might look at a tactical style pack like the 5.11 Rush 24.

Dakine 31-Litre Network Pack

This backpack is much bigger than it appears and it has a pocket for everything! I use it to take my laptop to work daily as well as carry documents and other things for travel. There are some great pouches inside for storing your power cables and wireless mouse. Also I dont need my neoprene laptop sleeve anymore since the padded laptop compartment is very protective and soft. My 15.6" Acer fits in there like a glove! Recently I went trough security and it was really easy to pull out my laptop for the x-ray machine and access my passport in the outer pocket. It was very comfortable carrying a heavy load around the airport while waiting for my flight to board as well. This is due to the nice padding on the straps and back of the backpack. On style, I think the carbon fabric looks great. It has a nice contemporary look that is not so skater like the other patterns. The material is very durable and it has ykk zippers which are the best quality. Highly recommended.

Best backpack BY FAR that I have seen. Terrific quality. Smart design with lots of useful storage options, from small zip mesh pockets inside to the semi-concealed front zip pocket outside that is perfect for travel docs and the excellent cup holds on both sides. Also I love the sunglass pocket on top. Wears well and cool, due to the design so that it's not smashed up against your entire back length (allows air to breathe a bit). Great lumbar rest and shoulder support. I used it for a 3 day trip to Istanbul and could have probably gotten a week's travel out of it, despite the moderate bag size. I wouldn't look at any other bag!

I was looking for a mini-back pack I could throw my iPad in when I went for a bike ride. I did not want a lot of space just something that is secure and comfortable. You get what you pay for. The construction is very basic and the materials are not what I would call quality. It is okay but I did not like the feel and the materials so it has sat in the corner collecting dust. Perhaps okay for young children who don't require anything special.

Port & Company Honeycomb Sling Pack. BG101

I use it for walking the dog. I put the house key and some dog treats in the small pocket and 2 or 3 water bottles in the larger section and off we go to the dog park or around the neighborhood. Rides well on my back with it cross body no sliding off my shoulder like my old bag.

What I would like improved is padding on the strap and or a softer edging on the strap. It does chaff the neck. I am going to get some padding to put around the strap where it hits my neck/shoulder area where it rests. That is my only issue wth it.

This thing is exactly what I wanted. I bought the red one and it's the perfect size for holding all my on-the-go gear (PS Vita, iPod, headphones, wallet, etc.). Good case. I agree it has a weird "new" smell, but it goes away. My 13" MacBook Air fits very snuggly and is very well protected.

I returned this for two reasons, first and most important is that I decided I wanted some sort of case that could also store my power cords and mouse. Second reason was that it had a distinct smell to it.

The viper hardcase is a little too tight when the Mac Airbook is placed in the sleeve. Maybe that will loosen up over time, but unfortunately it came with a very strange smell. Not sure how to describe the smell but I thought it would disappear after usage and airing out but no luck. The smell has transferred to my iPad cover. I am likely going to stop using this case. I have a Booq bag that I love and it did not have this odor, so maybe there is something wrong with this particular case or material?

I really like the quality of this case. I use it for carrying my Macbook Pro 13" Retina laptop. It fits just fine and has space for a couple of pens and small notebooks. The case is rigid enough that I feel safe when transporting my laptop in my backpack. This product will also work great for the macbook air 13". Only con I can think of is: thing smells when you first get it. Try leaving it open for an extended period so that the dye can dry out.

Clik Elite Escape Camera Backpack

I bought this camera backpack to replace my old Minolta backpack which I have (seriously) outgrown. Overall, the Escape is a good but not great pack which is why I gave it three stars. I would have liked to give it 3.5 stars but 1/2 a star isn't an option.:)

Anyway, some buyer background: 95% of my photography is outdoors and 90% of that is scenic. A little wildlife thrown in just for spice. I carry a 35mm full frame body, spare APS-C body and several lenses. A Sigma 50-500mm zoom and TC for wildlife, a 50mm f2.8 and 20mm f2.8 prime for landscapes and a 28-70 f2.8 zoom for general purpose. Tripod, ND filters, misc. filters (55mm, 72mm, 86mm), hood(s), and general photo accessories. Nothing out of the ordinary. I usually have to walk and generally its a few miles and the terrain is rough; there may or not be a path or trail so I need my hands free. These are not over-nighters just day hikes.

A backpack style camera 'bag' is the practical solution.

The pros:

The top load design is awesome as well as the Velcro'd in and therefore adjustable internal camera sling. You can prop the backpack up, unzip the top enough to get your camera out and then just flop the cover over while you're waiting. Ultra-quick access. There is even enough room to drop the camera into the sling WITH a Sigma 50-500mm lens attached. For full access to the inside you can lean the pack back and unzip the front. However, this pack doesn't come with internal retainer straps so it is possible for lenses to fall out if you're not careful.

The overall internal camera/lens storage space COULD be just a bit larger if you're packing a 35mm full frame DSLR and big (pro) glass. However, I can still fit a Sony a900, Minolta 27-70mm f2.8 G, Minolta 50mm f2.8, Minolta 7D body, a Sigma 50-500mm EX DG APO lens (and TC) and a Minolta 20mm f2.8. If I wanted a second a900 or a850 sized body one of the prime lenses would probably have to go.:(

The straps and back seem well made and are comfortable amazing considering how much all this gear weighs. I really like the chest strap. Nice feature. Time will tell how well the straps are stitched into the pack.

The backpack comes with several removable 'partitions'. I like Clik's design. Unlike most maker's partitions these are not just flat slabs of nylon encased foam with Velcro at both ends. These are lens body shaped on both ends and are flexible. IMHO, I think they actually supply more protection between lenses than the slabs in other bags.

General storage for cards, cords, etc. is found under the top flap covering the camera body. This is a great place for the memory card storage and there are two small zip up pockets for other (SMALL) frequently accessed items. Camera and cards are right there together.

The second storage section is on the lower front. A couple of nylon net bags and a 'key ring' retainer clip and strap are inside. The area is roomy enough for a (small) blower bulb, microfiber cloths, lens cleaner, flexible hood(s)...stuff like that.

The third is at the very top of the pack. I don't know what they expect you to use it for but it's a very handy place to put a map(s), hyperfocal cheat-sheets, etc. I don't know if I'd put electronics in there as I wouldn't want the sun beating on whatever it is under that black nylon all day long.

There is a fairly large removable zippered pouch that fits at the bottom of the main compartment. It's not divided and not too big but its useful for cords, spare lens caps stuff that won't break or scratch and can just be stuffed together in the same pouch.

Now for the cons:

The handle at the top of the pack is WAY to thin. Just carrying it from the parking lot to the hotel will cause the strap to cut into your hand.

In order to get the rain fly out you have to practicality turn the pack upside down and onto its front and its a pain in the rear to put the rain fly back. WHY isn't access and storage for the fly on the top where it should be?

The main storage space inside is too narrow. An inch or preferably two inches would allow for two big zooms like the 50-500 more comfortably. About two inches taller would also be really nice.

The lower front pocket contrary to marketing is useless for anything but a small, cheap poncho a sandwich and a cell phone. There is no padding or protection so anything going in there had better not be breakable. Small things placed in here will eventually slide to the bottom if not in the two small net pockets which means it's vulnerable to being bashed when you set the pack down. The net pockets aren't big enough for more than a couple smallish (55ish mm) filters in cases each maybe a small cell phone.

Which leads us to the two big drawbacks of this pack. Lack of protection and lack of accessory storage....

The bottom of the pack should be hardened and waterproof. This is a backpack after all and will be placed on the ground, rocks, logs, snow, mud, sand, wet vegetation, etc.

IMHO, I think there could be a bit more padding around the main compartment specifically the sides and front. Another 1/3" would be nice.

While the inside is reasonably well padded the two external pouches have NO padding AT ALL.

Which is only a secondary problem. The primary problem is there's virtually no accessory storage in this pack in the first place. Clik wasted the external sides of the pack and could have done a better job with the interior. External, padded and zippered side pockets would be GREAT!(like my old pack) Padded pockets on the inside of the main flap for filters, more memory cards, batteries, etc. Another external (PADDED) zippered pocket above the external existing one would also be nice.

External tie-down rings or bungee cords would also be nice to strap down a jacket and/or poncho.

Body could use a little stiffening. It tends to 'slouch' and fall over when you set it down if you're not careful. This would be accomplished with the addition of padded, zippered side pockets and a little more general padding, so....

The idea behind the design of this pack is obviously to hold a good amount of gear and make it comfortable to carry some distance. What I can not understand is why camera backpack manufactures including Clik can't just look at a backpack and design one that holds camera gear. Clik has it ALMOST right but it still seems like their designers neither backpack nor are outdoor photographers so they lack basic understanding of some requirements for both.

Still, you could do much worse. This is a compact, light pack and properly organized it will hold a respectably amount of gear. If Clik refines this design it could be an incredible product. All in all, though, for hikes in mild weather where you don't have to carry more than a sandwich, jacket, canteen (and/or water filter) and a moderate amount of camera gear it should do the job very well.

Its holds my nikon with every lens i have on it and keeps everything else organized while not in use. I have gone hiking through the plains with it and hiking up mountians with no issues. It protected all my gear and still gave me a little extra room to hold food and water. The rain cover that comes with it is a huge bonus. I got stuck and hour away from my car while hiking during a downpour with no place to hide and kept everything dry. the only thing that got wet was me and the backpack straps. The only reason I gave it four stars is because I believe a camera bag should be able to hold a tripod and this will not hold mine. maybe it will hold a small one but I havnt met too many people with a tripod smaller than mine. Overall, worth the buy!

Good high quality backpack. Paddings are very nice. It has enough room for my camera and 4 lens plus some extral room. Kind of heavy by its own. The main issue is the color is not gray, it is very much green, greyish green. Not a bad color but did not match with what saw in picture.

It's very pretty and stylish, which I love, since I use it as my purse and diaper bag on a daily basis. The straps are versatile, I use it as a messenger bag, but the stroller straps are great too. This bag is very pretty. I get lots of compliments on it. I love it for quick trips out and about. However, I've resorted to my old backpack to hold everything needed for the day at daycare. There is no zipper under the flap, closes with just one snap, but if you have even a little too much in there it will not snap and things can fall out! It was on crazy sale, so I do not regret having it and use it on the weekends, but if I'd paid full retail for it I'd probably be disappointed.

After seeing somebody with the petunia pickle bottom, I knew I needed a diaper bag that can convert into a backpack if needed. 5.11 Covrt18 Backpack

I am not military or LE, I simply want a backpack that doesn't advertise itself as "I'm expensive, think about robbing my owner" when travelling in foreign countries. I currently own 2 different Northface bags (typical school "book bag" types) and an Osprey Stratos 24. The Osprey is better than the Northface bags but I feel conspicuous using it my mistake really...should only be used for hiking. Size wise, this bag looks the same as the Northface

I got the 5.11 Covrt18 bag (navy) a week before I traveled to 3 islands in the Caribbean. The bag is good looking without standing out in any way. It has the standard laptop case which is fine. This bag really stands out in 3 ways from my perspective:

1) Spaciousness of main compartment

2) Weight distribution/comfort

3) Size and organization (ie functionality) of additional compartments

I stored passports, 4 days of clothing, a Canon DLSR, 2 books (1 was 1100 pages), 3 phone chargers, camera charger, snacks, earplugs, headphones, writing paper & pens. I carried this onto the plane and was able to fit it under the seat(aisle seat) with minimal shoving.

The main compartment is surprisingly big. I was able to put clothing on all 4 sides of my camera without feeling like i was crushing it. It has 2 grommeted holes on the bottom, which at first I didn't like thinking water would get in but I quickly realized I'd never put my bag down in a puddle. The holes let the lint and cruft fall out vs my other bags which require periodic upside down shakeouts. The holes are smaller than a dime so you can still toss your change wherever is easiest.

I don't understand why this bag is so comfortable compared to the others I own. Yes, the shoulder straps are cushioned but thats never bothered me. Rather, the weight seems to be better distributed? I don't feel like I need to walk hunched forward slightly and frankly forgot I had it on when standing at the airport for 6 hrs.

The northface bags have 700 zippers, straps, openings but I hated them. The Covrt18 makes perfect sense the 2ndary compartments don't 'black hole' your stuff when you need to get things out. The arrangement makes it easy to recognize which compartment you're opening. My 2 favorites are the very top compartment, lined with soft material. Perfect for sunglasses, cellphone, keys, earbuds, gum & other things that you may need to pull out frequently. The other is the 2 overlapping square compartments on the outside perfect for throwing passports in one and paper/notes in the other.

I've only had it for 2 weeks now so I can't comment on durability but have no reason to question it. Yes it is slightly more expensive than other bags but when I add up the 3 I've purchased prior to Covrt18, it's close to $200 spent trying to find the right bag. Buy the right one first.

UPDATE: July 2012

I've used this about 6 times so far and it's still in like-new condition. I haven't found any problems or 'cons' since the original review. I took it to Italy for a week and to Las Vegas for a 3 day weekend. For Vegas this was the only thing I brought fit 2 shorts, 1 jeans, pair of dress shoes, 6 shirts, bathing suit, toiletries and a kindle room for more. If you don't already roll everything for packing I'd suggest trying it out with this. The bundle method is better for avoiding wrinkles with suits and dress shirts IMO...

I wanted very badly to like this backpack. I could not have been more excited to see the UPS guy pull up today. When I pulled it out of the box, it became obvious that the quality control on these things is sub-par. While the bag itself seemed to be very functional, and all of their advertisements seemed to be accurate, several of the straps and zippers on the one I ordered were either already broken (zippers on the inside pockets, which I was able to fix after fiddling with it for about a half hour), or they broke upon their first use (the right hand elastic strap on the water bottle holder popped the first time I tried to cinch it up). I am returning this bag, and am now debating whether I should try another one or not. I was purchasing this for a trip I am going on in a week, and I just hope that I can get another unit that fast if I decide to get another one of these. I am not sure what the quality control process is for these, but it seems that it needs to be adjusted. Had I have paid half the price for this backpack, it wouldn't be a big deal, but at this price to have things breaking on the backpack right out of the box is unacceptable. Very disappointing from a backpack of this caliber...

Ok, I did indeed wind up purchasing another one, and this time with better results. I have since been to Korea, China, backpacking, fishing, and have used it at the office every day, and it has actually been a great little backpack. It is indeed laid out well, and it just adapts so well to so many different scenarios. It is also well balanced and extremely comfortable. I bumped it up a star (really wanted to give it 3 1/2, but half in not an option). The reason I didn't go up to five with it is because I am still a little concerned that I heard nothing at all from the company. In fact, I even sent them a contact through their website and nothing. The other thing I am very concerned about is that I left a similar review on the the companies website which never got posted. It is always a little shady to me when a website lets you "review" products, but the negative ones never post. This is akin to false advertisement if you ask me.

In summary, the backpack itself (second time around) is actually really good and I am glad overall that I gave it another shot. The company does not seem to be concerned with pleasing their customers (at least average Joes...maybe it would be different if I were in the service or in law enforcement...), nor will they allow honest feedback on their website's posted comments and "ratings." Again, for a backpack of this price that is in competition with other companies who offer lifetime warranties on their products, this seems like an unwise practice.

This well thought-out backpack has lots of room and many pockets for organization. The padded laptop sleeve is as good as any other backpack's; a 17" MacBook Pro will *just* fit, though the top corners are very close to the top of the bag. The side-entry pocket is great for stowing an iPad our you can use the big front pocket for the same purpose. The two small pockets on the front are perfect for small items you want to get to quickly like USB sticks, ear-buds or change. The "admin" pocket on the front-top has plenty of room for pens, business cards, small note pads and other "office supplies". The main compartment where the laptop can be stowed expands quite a bit, you could drop a 3" binder in there along with the laptop. There is no dedicated "paperwork" pocket like you find in most laptop backpacks, but you can use the main compartment or, if it's just a folder or two, a great place is the compartment that can also hold the hydration pack. The mesh zippered pockets in the main compartment are great for stowing whatever you want to carry that needs to be contained/organized.

This bag is more than just a laptop bag, it is intended to be used in the field and is just as tough as a typical day-hiking bag by one of the major outdoor bag manufacturers. On a recent trip, I dumped out all my business stuff and put in a hydration bladder, first aid kit, snacks, maps, etc and went on an all day hike. The shoulder straps and sternum strap are well designed and distribute the weight of the backpack to keep your shoulders and back from getting sore on long treks. The surfaces that contact your back, shoulders and chest are made of a semi-breathable padding to help keep you cooler and the padding on the back has a channel for ventilation. The empty weight is very light, the fabric is water repellant and most of the zippers have rain covers that keep (much)water from leaking through the zippers and into the bag. After a trip from the US to Europe then Asia and back the backpack still looks brand new and will certainly last for years. This is a great bag and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new laptop backpack.

One last comment about carrying the 17" MacBook. My laptop is in a Speck Products lexan case that will protect it from bumps, but does add about 3/16" to the dimensions. With the case, the laptop still fits fine. Because there is virtually no room left at the top of the bag, I was concerned about the top corners of the laptop rubbing on the fabric and causing wear. I put a 2"x3" patch of moleskin on each upper inside surface where this contact could occur, just in case. The moleskin has been there for over a month and shows no sign of wear and isn't trying to peel off, and there is no sign of wear on the outside of the bag.

I finally convinced my wife to let me order her a EDC bag. I did a lot of research and decided on the 5.11 COVRT 18. I read the review from J. Sutton (posted on this site) and was a little concerned however I decided to order 2 of the bags anyway. That was a mistake! Upon arrival, the one I ordered for my wife was damaged / broken. The top carrying handle was torn in two. I examined it further and it appears the handle was yanked on until it gave way and broke through the middle. The stitching around the handle was frayed and, well, it was completely sheared in two (in the middle). I've never seen a pack handle do this! This should have been caught by quality control as it was an OBVIOUS defect in workmanship and is the first thing I noticed as I pulled it out of the packaging (unless a disgruntled employee shipped it in this manner??!!). I examined the pack I ordered for me and found other frayed / loose stitching which made me nervous. I called 5.11 but was directed to a voice mail. I left two messages explaining the quality / damage issues but never received a phone call back. BOTTOM LINE: This pack is definitely sub-par when it comes to quality. I would not trust it in the field. I've heard other police officers say 5.11 has been producing gear with issues recently, but I didn't believe it until I saw it. Buyer beware! My search continues for a well built EDC pack. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I have lost confidence in 5.11's quality and customer service.

I am a firearms and CHL (Concealed Handgun License) instructor. I am constantly looking for a backpack or other way of carrying my work gear that does not look Tacticool and, therefore, broadcasts to the world "THIS GUY IS CARRYING A GUN!!" This bag is perfect for carrying all work day essentials. I have a HUGE 17" Dell laptop that fits in the main compartment perfectly. I also have a full sized Glock .45 with 2 mags, and a S&W snubby with speedloader in the velcro concealed compartment. My last backpack seemed to be so heavy, but it's stuff I use every day so I have to carry it around. I have no idea what the deal is with this backpack, but I swear the exact same load out I carried in my lst pack FEELS lighter in this backpack. I guess it's the location/spacing of the straps...not sure. But I love it. I also should mention that I'm 6'7" and have broad shoulders, and this pack fits fine (for those that find it hard to fit a good backpack).

I love the sporty, pleasant looking colors offered and love even more that it does not scream TACTICAL!

We brought two angry birds back packs for our sons for the start of school which was Aug 2011 the boys were super excited that they had the backpacks but within a week my oldest sons back pack zipper broke and then a few weeks later my other sons back pack had a hole in it not sure why since they only carry a light folder and lunchpack in it i would not buy these back packs again they are not made very well so now gotta throw them in the trash waste of money

This backpack was a horrible waste of money. One zipper fell apart within a week and the other two came off in the first month. I ended up throwing it out because it was totally useless. There were no working zippers after a month of use. Learn from my mistake and don't waste your money.

Ordered this backback for my pre-schooler who is crazy for Angry Birds. It can be adjusted to make it the perfect size for pre-school through elementary. 2 front pockets & 1 large main compartment allow ample room to carry all school necessities. Doesn't take much rough & tumble from a 3 1/2 yr old, so I can't speak to its durability yet, but it appears to be made well.

I bought this for my six year old son 4 weeks ago.....the zipper busted within two weeks. I was able to fix it, sort of. We can zip it from one side now. However, we now have holes in the bottom of the bag too. Granted, my son is young and sometimes drags his bag towards himself to get things out of it....but it's not like he's dragging it behind him on the way to school. We have to replace the bag.

I definitely would not recommend this item. It is very poor quality.

Convertible backpack September 2012: This backpack hides its straps so it can be airline-checked. It is sized to meet carry-on limits. It is in the same category as a Rick Steve's weekend convertible, but it is a bit smaller. While it doesn't have all the hidy-holes as a RickSteves and inside dividers are delicate, it has a tougher outside fabric and will hold it shape when empty. I like it.

So far I have used it on one airline trip. I did not check it, but instead used overhead bins. It has two easy-to-grab strong handles (side and top) and comes with a removable shoulder strap. The backside has a thick pad for comfort that doubles as a loop to strap it on your rolling luggage handle. This turned out to be a handy feature.

The zippers with their tassels have held up fine so far, though I am reluctant to check the bag. This bag is a cross between luggage and a backpack. The hidden waist clips, shoulder straps, and back pad make it an acceptable backpack. The silver piping is also highly reflective for night safety. As luggage it has handles, shoulder strap, and a thick-tough outside fabric that holds it shape. A very good compromise overall.

Occasional airline traveler.

This was used over the past year as a carry-on when I had business trips all over the world on various airliners and I have never had a problem getting this backpack checked as a carry-on. The bag is compact and if you pack tight and well, you can fit a lot of stuff in it. I used to put a laptop on the top if I was under the weight limits and it was a simple flip over to get thru security without really having to remove the laptop out of the bag completely. It has a convenient shoulder strap which is great if you hate having a backpack on your shoulders. I was able to fit 3-5 days worth of clothing depending on what I had to pack in, and there's a generous sized pocket in the front that I fit toiletries in as well as odds and ends such as wires needed for work.

Now, for the bad parts, a few airlines allowed larger carry-on than this bag by a significant amount, which results in more checked bags if you travel heavy. Also, the straps in the main compartment tended to clump clothes together on rare occasions if you were trying to squeeze as much as possible out of the space.

All minor nuances, but for the price, and the size, it can't be beat. It's rare to find a bag that is small enough to be allowed on multiple airlines as a carry-on and this bag is also near the dimension limits for more than half the airlines I traveled on which was very convenient and allowed the most use of the carry on allowed. Add in the bag's light weight and it's almost a perfect carry-on bag.
