I'm a computer tech and this bag holds everything I need to make a service call. Comfortable to wear and stays securely on one shoulder. The cell phone pocket seemed small, but holds an iPhone 4 very well. Any phone larger may not work. The sunglasses pocket is large enough to hold a hard sided glasses case, making the bottom location a non-issue. Get it while you can!

I already own an Ogio Hip Hop bag in brown. I have had it for over two years and have put it through some harsh treatment and it is still together, looking good, and has always protected my laptop and gear. I mostly use this for transporting tech (laptop, iPad, phone, cables, etc) and minor items to and from work, and it does the job very well. I recently brought it with me on a flight, and it just barely stuck out from under the seat when laid flat nothing that'll get in the way if you're cognizant of where it is.

Likes:

*Construction seems very durable.

*Compartments not too many, not to few.

Dislikes:

*Strap Sewn to the "D-rings" and not replaceable without cutting it. I'd much rather see a clip that rotates to avoid playing the "how do I untwist this strap" game.

*Phone compartment Too small to fit an iPhone 5, and I imagine most larger Android phones, too. But, honestly, I wouldn't use it anyway since my phone is always kept in my front pocket.

I have owned this about 5 months and I've been very happy with it. I only have one small complaint. The shoulder-strap is attached and cannot be removed. The strap itself is of good quality, but it bunchs up on one of the corners where it connects to the bag. It by no means effects the use of the bag, but it seems to be a simple design flaw that should should have been remedied. I have owned several Ogio products over the years and I continue to be satisfied with all of them.

This bag is fairly adjustable, making it ideal for anyone looking for a comfortable day pack for hiking or trail-running. I have used it several times now and have yet to find any fault in it. It seems to be water resistant, my gear inside was just barely moist after hiking for an hour in a downpour. It does not have an overly large storage area, but plenty for emergency supplies, a bottle or two, and a day's worth of food. The hydration bladder is a huge plus as well. I bought this at just under $40 and I am very pleased with my purchase.

Mobile Edge Premium Laptop Backpack- 17.3-Inch (Black/Navy)

I bought this backpack 5 months ago as a replacement for a Mobile Edge Premium Laptop Backpack that I have had for almost 8 years. I bought the original in 2004 for what was then my new Dell Laptop. The original has held up fabulously through all kinds of experiences. It has been on countless flights around the country, through camping trips, three motorcycle accidents, and I use it every single day back and forth to work. In March of this year, I was in a 50 MPH head on motorcycle accident; I rolled over the backpack with my 230 lbs, and the only damage was a broken plastic buckle everything inside was in perfect condition.

The new backpack doesn't fare nearly as well. In 5 months, without any extreme circumstances (no motorcycle accidents, camping, etc.), the fabric inside the backpack has torn in two spots, the waist buckle has broken, and the light duty mesh on the outside front pockets has ripped. This is just from day to day use back and forth to work. The 1680 denier nylon outer skin has done well, which is to be expected. Everything else seems to be of inferior quality.

If the whole backpack were made of the same quality materials as the outer skin, it would be a great bag; it has many great features, it's comfortable, and it is roomy. As it stands, however, I will be looking elsewhere for my laptop backpacks from now on.

I recently bought a replacement plastic buckle for my original bag and have been using it instead of this new one. When it does eventually give up the ghost, I'll most likely look at a Sandpiper or Blackhawk bag that is built sturdier throughout.

My computer is 17.3" and also very thick it is hard to find 17.3" backpacks that are also thick enough. This is a great backpack and it fit the computer perfectly!

I I have now taken one weekend trip using this bag and it worked great. I do a lot of weekend travel and I have grown tired of lugging a briefcase and a suitcase and having to pay the outrageous bag fees on aircraft. I had no problem packing my iPad, clothes, toiletries and meds in this bag. It even has features I have not used yet. I am glad I bought it.

my previous bag was a swiss that lasted maybe 4 years. this one seems better made, stiffer. you don't have to fasten the rain cover buts its nice to have. this thing would fit a 19" laptop if you had to, 17" has room leftover. the 2nd compartment though isn't very deep front to back. its more like the laptop compartment, tall wide but not too deep. I wish it was a bit deeper. the bottom back pocket works great for stuff like USB cables, drives and other bits, but I wish it was taller to hold some larger cables.

very well made, should last a long time. had this 4-5 months and it still looks like new despite daily use including bike commuting I do while its nice outside... and even when its not quite nice :)

DAKINE Men's Point Surf Pack

We purchased this back pack for a cruise so that we could keep all of the things we needed with us while off of the ship. The front compartment enabled us to store documents and make them easily reachable. The sunglass pouch did an excellent job of protecting sunglasses.

The back pack was also comfortable to wear for long periods (like waiting to board, waiting in line on the Lido deck, etc.). Even better, the side pocket was perfect for holding a large water bottle.

We abused this back pack (dragged, kicked, sand and sun) and it still looks new. We look forward to many years of use.

Backpack is nice. Smaller than one I bought last year. Good for my sons who's in third grade(on the taller side.It's Simple no bells and whistles but will work for what we bought it for which is just a back pack.

Some points not clear from the product description:

When empty this frameless pack will easily fit into a standard roll-on 22" suitcase, taking only a few cubic inches of space.

It has stretchy side pockets on both sides, suitable for small water bottles. The lower compression straps pass inside the pockets, so you can use the straps to provide additional security for, say, a camera.

The main top collar closes up tight; for casual day pack use you can remove the top pocket and have a bag that's even lighter and easier to use.

The left waist belt pocket is see-through mesh. The right is opaque rip-stop.

Materials and workmanship are the best available and assembly is perfect. Careful attention was given to many small details for example elastic is sewn into the top pocket skirt, and the hauling loop is sewn into a reinforced seam that runs around the whole pack.

You shouldn't rate something poorly if you're not using it the way it's meant to be used.....

This bag weighs 1 pound and the only back support is a small, thin piece of foam!!!! It's a minimalist pack, so unless you have low weight minimalist gear or plan to use it for a day pack, it's not going to fit your needs. The exos and talon weigh twice as much and have a strong(ish) frame, so if your gear is a bit on the heavier side it's obvious which pack better fits your usage.

Most of all this is not a pack for large torso people! I am 6 feet 170 pounds and the M/L works great (S/M would be too small). However, if you are 215 pounds or so, try the fit in person before you buy it.

With that said....

All my gear that I regularly take backpacking is around 7-10 pounds depending on season (not counting water/food).

This is the best pack I've ever owned (despite the price) for my needs, which is primarily ultralight 1-7 day backpacking in Utah deserts.

I currently own the 44 talon, 26 manta, 6 raptor, 32 hornet and I've had 5+ other osprey packs and the hornet is my favorite!!!

Osprey makes hands down the best backpacking products (besides cuben fiber companies like zpacks that cost $$$) I've come across, and you can't go wrong buying any of them.

HOWEVER, make sure that pack you're looking at buying fits your own specific needs!

16 pounds or less, pack the hornet meticulously and you will love it. I haven't been able to use a hydration bladder due to the barrel effect they create on non-framed packs, so keep that in mind.

Putting design descriptions aside... we've read all about it's stretchy pockets and removable pad. Peak-bagging this-and-that. Those are great, but this pack falls short when it comes time to load it up and hit the trail for an overnight. I had hoped to use this for a day pack taking enough for a light overnight. Bivy, Ti Sol, etc. However, when I loaded the pack to full capacity with the essentials and a few extras, it practically collapsed under the weight around 25 lbs or so. The pack pulled so far away from my upper body it was almost comical. No manner of strap adjustments would right the load. I even unpacked and repacked to redistribute the weight a bit more effeciently. No luck. I finally removed extras until the load was reduced yet still sufficient for an ultralight overnight. By this time the compression straps were almost completely cinched and the pack was essentially 'half full'. Finally, it felt like I would expect it to.

I have owned Osprey (and various others) packs since 1991 and have given this pack a fair try. If you want to 'stash' this pack inside another pack for peak-bagging or inside your travel luggage for trapsing around your vacation, that will likely work out quite well. However, if you are looking for something that carries an ultralight overnight load, you might want to consider something a bit more substantial. Of course, your results may vary.

I also own the Exos46 as my largest pack with ultralight gear it's more than enough for multi-day trips and am considering the 34 version to replace this Hornet 32.

I ordered this product as a replacement for an old bookbag. The ordering process was very easy and took just a few minutes. I was suprised to find the product arrived in 4 days, despite using the 5 8 day free shipping. The bookbag itself is very comfortable and rooms. There are several compartments of various sizes, perfect for all the crap an IT guy has to carry. The description states it will fit a 16" laptop; which is does, but my 15.6 is a little awkward to get inside. I do like the extra comfort padding and the elastic velcro to hold my laptop in place.

I ordered this product for my 15.6'' HP Pavilion G6, and am absolutely in love with this pack. I bought it with hopes that I'd be able to carry a couple books for school and what not along with my laptop, and it has enough room for my laptop, my pre-algebra and psychology books, and 2 notebooks. Its got pen holders inside, with a bunch of pockets and sleeves inside for all kinds of misc. items. The pouch on front has enough room for my ipod and 2 packs of index cards. The padding is AWESOME, and extremely comfortable. I am 110% satisfied with this pack, and would suggest it to anybody who's on a budget. Honestly, after receiving the pack, I can't rightly think of any reason someone would want to spend any more money on a pack when they get this awesome quality for a low price 0_o. 5/5 Stars!

ALPS OutdoorZ Traverse Pack

I had used this for a Hunting trip , was able to get everything I needed into it, great extension for a meat bag. Great straps, nice side pocket for a spotting scope. I had my bow with me works great holding everything together. Have not tried with a rifle yet, but has some nice straps to secure your rifle. It got banged up and did not rip or break. Worth every penny

Finally got the daypack in and I'm very excited! Only reason for the 4 stars is because I haven't had a chance to use it out in the field yet. Definitely has lots of room and fits everything I need to take and some! Seems to be very sturdy and I can't feel the weight on my shoulders by how the weight is distributed, but won't really know until I have to haul meat on it. I would definitely recommend it for anyone. Only downside is that it isn't waterproof, but the pack does come with an orange blaze rain cover.

Princesses, purple, pink. You know, the thing any 4 year old wants. But inside, the activity book / whatever it is was pretty skimpy. I bought some Water Wow Activity Books (big BIG hit) and a few other trinkets to put inside the backpack to make it more interesting. She loved it and toted it around the whole weekend. I gave it 3 stars because it really should contain more and you're going to have to spend a few bucks to fill it up.

Purchased for 4thgrader back to school pack, he loves it. Fits in the traditional sized locker. Easily identifiable, has lots of compartments and space, however no padding. Not ideal for a laptop even with a sleeve since the bottom is not reinforced.

Good buy for the price and normal day to day usage. Would not recommend if student has lots of textbooks and binders.

Kata KT DL-3N1-20 3-In-1 Sling Backpack (Black)

I purchased this bag hoping to carry a 7D, 100-400, 17-55, 100 macro, and a 430 flash. I figured this bag would be big enough. The bag is big enough to carry all this and a few small extras but only if configured a certain way. The 7D with the 100-400 will not fit when together so I always have to change lenses to put the camera back in the bag. I have to store the 100-400 in the top pocket then the camera with either the 100mm 0r 17-55 in the main pouch for everything to fit. The bag quality is excellent with the ability to sling it or backpack which is nice. The bag functions as described and deserves five stars. For me I guess I should have ordered the next bag size up.

I'll be honest, I almost sent this bag back when I got it. I got frustated with the configuration of the dividers to fit my needs, and the zippers which don't always operate smoothly. It also felt so light weight that I was fooled into thinking it was cheaply made. But I gave it a chance, and it turned out to be VERY well made and fits my needs perfectly.

For those who don't know, KATA was founded by a couple Israeli special forces soldiers who were making their own combat gear. The company was later purchased by a huge photo equipment conglomerate, but that hasn't dumbed down the quality as far as I can tell. The materials are top notch, and they look and feel tough. Those fussy zippers appear to be designed to keep sprinkles and dust from entering the bag. (Zippers are working better after a bit of "break-in".) Of course, steady rain would call for using the included weather shield, which covers all but the straps. The padding is somewhat thin, but dense enough to protect expensive lenses, as long as you don't throw it around like an airline baggage handler.

I sat myself down on the floor for about an hour and played with the velcro-attaching dividers and my gear. I have 2 small primes and two larger Canon L zooms. My goal was to be able to access all my lenses from the side zipper when the bag was slung horizontal in front of me. I finally made it work by turning a small divider sideways between the two primes. The original divider setup seems to assume that you'll pull your camera from the side and other articals from the front, but this is not practical or safe (easy to spill or drop gear). I also set it up so that once the DSLR is out, two divider "doors" on either side of the attached lens corridor open to reveal the other lenses. This works very well for changing lenses without setting anything down, which was a major requirement for me.

I also learned to place frequently used filters in the upper side pocket facing me when the bag is slung horizontal. I do have to take the bag off to access the top compartment, opposite side pocket, and opposite side of main compartment, but the need to do this is not frequent. I just make sure to store things in these spots that I don't need often.

The bag is comfortable to wear as a single-strap sling, but I have added enough weight in gear that I use the backback configuration with two straps for a long hike. Of course, access to the bag without setting it down is much trickier in backpack mode. I have a monster of aluminum and steel Bogen tripod and probably wouldn't use the optional tripod attachment because it would add too much weight, unless I got a lighter carbon fiber model (when I get rich).

A LowePro Orion waistpack was my previous bag. It was very high quality and heavily padded and I used it for over 15 years. I could access ALL my gear by sliding it around to my front, but I was outgrowing it (no room for new gear). I have to say being able to carry on my back and still have quick access works much better than having my bag bouncing on my buns or the tops of my thighs as I move. I had to hold the LowePro steady if I wanted to run, but cinching the strap(s) down on the KATA (which adjust quickly and easily) allows me to run with my hands free (and nothing bumping my butt or upper legs).

I've had the KATA for just over a month and have taken it on multiple outings without any issues. I don't expect to have any after closely examining the stiching. I would recommend the KATA 3n1 line if you need a medium sized bag that you can carry securely while on the move and still have quick access. My very first camera bag was a shoulder bag, and when it swung out, threw me off balance, and pulled me into a creek when I was hopping rocks... Well I found a better solution. $99 is a lot of money for a hunk of straps, padding, and pockets, but I carry over $3,000 worth of gear in it. So paying a little more for something well made is worth it, even in my stingy, economical brain.

This bag is a very thin neoprene material. I have another laptop sleeve for my 15 inch laptop, and it is much thicker (3 times as thick). I don't feel like this sleeve will adequately protect my laptop. I found another one at Walmart that is much thicker, and I recommend that one. Don't waste your money on this one.
