Outlander Packable Handy Lightweight Travel Backpack Daypack

Outlander Packable Handy Lightweight Travel Backpack Daypack-PinkWe just returned from a trip to an area where daily hiking through natural parks & weight restrictions were an issue. This bag answered all my needs! Durable enough to load up for daily treks, 2 water bottle pockets on sides held up wonderfully! Large enough center pocket to carry what you need, outside smaller pocket great for quick access. Nice, durable water-resistant nylon with comfortable shoulder straps. Perfect for day trips!

When we hastily packed to leave NY to avoid hurricane Sandy, I neglected to pack my favorite travel backpack and was going to need a replacement to take on a cruise. The description of the backpack seemed to be a good match. I was very pleased when it arrived just a few days later. It's lightweight and has just enough pockets to keep things organized. The inside zippered pocket which doubles as the storage pouch was the perfect place for valuables such as cash, credit cards and passport. The side mesh pockets were great for hand sanitizer and water and there were two tabs where clips could be attached to secure items when we were zip-lining in Costa Rica.

straps come loose too easily. Slip out of guide very easily. Was helpful on our vacation to have a lightweight travel backpack.

Took this on my cruise vacation to carry all of our stuff during our excursions. It held up well and was super light weight. It did get one little hole during the 7 day trip, but I'm not sure that wasn't our fault for catching it on something and in any case, the hole never got bigger or spread open more, so that is a plus. This was definitely a must-have for our trip, and we will get many more trips out of it.

I'm very happy with this purchase! Fits all my gear for a day hike. Food, water, sweatshirt, classes, camera, sunscreen, etc. Very comfortable and high quality considering it is a packable bag. I like being able to fold it up when it's not in use. It looks great and holds just the right amount. Highly recommend.

Fast Forward Boys Sports School Padded Laptop Bag Backpack "Batman - The Dark Night Rises" 17 X 13

Fast Forward Boys Sports School Padded Laptop Bag Backpack 'Batman - The Dark Night Rises' 17 X 13 X 4My son loves batman! He loves this bag. It is pretty large without being overly so for a younger kid. The picture is really cool with the design seeming to be sort of 3 D. My only problem was that our first one fell apart on the fancy picture part when I washed it on gentle cycle in cold water. I had to get another one, as my son loved it so much and was heartbroken (he is 6). I prefer a back pack that can endure the washer, but this one is great as long as you keep it clean another way.

Skechers Boys 8-20 K Light Classic Backpack

Skechers Boys 8-20 K Light Classic Backpack, Cool Blue, One SizeThis backpack is a great deal for the price. However, it is rather small than expected. My kindergartener did enjoy it.

My son wanted this bag for his first day of third grade. I ordered it stupid me without looking at the dimensions. When the package came I quickly realized it was too small to put any books in. I quickly returned it and ordered another one.

My son really liked this backpack. I rated it 4 because it was on the small side but it also came with unexpected lights in the front pocket as a plus.

It was much smaller than I expected it to be, but that was probably my fault for not checking the specs. My child loves the light up aspect.

Little Mermaid Messenger BagThis is super cute and the quality seems OK but it's small. My daughters school folder will fit but it's a squeeze and I think the lunch box will have to be carried seperatly.

16" Cars Taking the Race By Storm Rolling Backpack

16' Cars Taking the Race By Storm Rolling BackpackI bought this rolling backpack as a gift for someone going to DisneyWorld Cars themepark and he loved it. It was very sturdy and the colors bright. Just right for a 3 to 7 yr. old.

Timbuk2 Especial Tres Backpack (Medium)

Timbuk2 Especial Tres BackpackMaybe I'm hypercritical, but this bag is flawed and I'm terribly disappointed. I had high hopes. The problem is that it's not a rolltop bag like they say and display. The pictures all show the top neatly tolled up and secure. What is hard to see is that there's nothing keeping it rolled. It's hard to exlain, but there are snap clips that hold the top down, but nothing keeps it rolled up. As soon as you jostle the bag, the top unrolls and becomes a flap that hangs down in front of the outer pockets. Then you can't get into front pocket without awkwardy displacing the "rolltop". Furthermore, the same straps/clips that hold down the top make it very difficult to unzip the highly-touted side access zipper. The video on Timbuk2's website (and youtube) show a guy effortlessly accessing all the compartments, but when you watch this video after holding the bag it starts to become apparent that he is skillfully hiding these problems.

Well balanced when loaded.

Zippered pockets are easily accessible.

Slim profile preserves a good rear visual field.

When the bag is filled with the roll top fully unfolded the back of my helmet hits the bag.

When carrying a heavy load i feel unacceptable pain in my upper back

The reflective accents are too small and ineffective . A bike bag needs lots of reflective material!

Buy Timbuk2 Especial Tres Backpack (Medium) Now

I bought this pack after realizing that my trusty Seagull backpack was nearly melting to my back in the swampy DC summers. The molded back support on the Especial Tres allows for some badly needed air flow.

The interior laptop sleeve is nicely waterproof, on top of the largely water-resistant bag itself. I have no worries about my delicate electronics when caught in a sudden squall. The Tres has many nooks and crannies, allowing you to carefully stow everything in its place if you so choose. Of course, you're likely to forget about a zippered compartment here and there, which could get awkward the next time you head to the airport.

Also at the airport, the tres can usually wedge under the seat in front of you in a pinch, unless you are in a deHavilland or Embraer. The molded back piece means that there is no way to easily reduce the height of the pack, which some flight attendants may have issues with. It's the luck of the draw to avoid a gate-check with this pack on the small planes.

The compression straps means that it's very easy to reduce the depth of the bag, however, and the zippered expansion area means that it's also easy to expand the pack into a gaping bag of holding. I have successfully shoved a 2U router in this pack and run through Union Station to catch a train, with no worries that the the router would somehow escape its confines. (NOT in a rainstorm; the pack cannot close over the top of the router, but the compression straps hold everything tight.)

Unfortunately, if the main compartment is moderately full, it can be hard to get items in and out of the front compartment. I've scraped up my hand on the velcro a couple of times, which can suck. Additionally, while shiny material on the front is fairly tough and repels water, it's more vulnerable to nicks and scrapes than the cordura.

All in all, I like this pack very much; I'm probably going to switch packs for winter, when air circulation is less of a draw, but it was a lovely summer/fall pack.

eBags Mother Lode TLS Weekender Convertible

eBags Mother Lode TLS Weekender Convertible - Green EnvyMy mission for the perfect traveling bag started 4 years ago. Yes, it was a long one but I was not about to buy 4 bags, compare them all, then go to the post office with the returns.

Please bear with me. The back story is important here.

It began with a medium sized 4wheeled bag for my wife and a medium 2-wheeler Burton for myself. She liked the ease in pushing her stand-up luggage over the airport's smooth floor but once out in the real-world her bag was more easily pulled using just 2 of its wheels. Which was actually 90% of the time. During its 4th voyage, while traveling over pebbles to a oceanside hotel one of its cheap plastic wheels started to malfunction. It never rolled smoothly after that day but we did use it for the return trip home. Well, it was still under warranty but they would only repair it if I sent it back to them. That would be $10 for a cardboard box from staples and probably another $30-$40 to mail it backTo repair a $80 used bag?

In the mean-time, my Burton luggage rolled-on like a tank due to its skateboard type wheels which always survived the baggage handlers, but alason its 5th trip, one of its zippers simply disappeared. Discovered this at baggage claim where I made a damage claim. The airline offered me a new bag of equal size which I promptly rejected because It wasn't even close in quality to mine. The problem was taken care of using a zipper repair kit ordered here on amazon.

Both of these bags juuuust make the size limit for carry-ons. Which, for me is more often bad, rather than good. Reason being... It was a huge hassle trying to find room in the overhead compartments of economy class (I prefer to spend the money on trips to exotic locals).

So, we decided to leave our wheeled luggage at home and travel with backpack luggage made for active people. I started looking for pack that had a rectangular shape with a flat bottom and deep sides for maximum capacity, and it should have compression straps to cinch it all in to fit in those overheads.

When I first saw the eBag MotherLode I knew it was large enough to handle a week's vacation worth of clothes. You see, over the years I've learned that less is more and I believe most frequent fliers come to this realization eventually. Instead of bringing alot of clothes, just utilize a washing machine or the hotel's laundry service.

This bag can easily hold my 10 day load;

1 pair casual cotton pants

1 pair blue jeans

1 dress slacks

belt

2 casual long sleeve

1 dress shirt

2 t-shirts

1 nice pair of black shoes

2 wool socks

2 wool briefs

(lightweight wool underwear is simply amazing for travel. You can clean it in the sink at night and it will be dry by morning. It's itch-free and anti-odor as well. I've found the best to be made by Icebreaker.)

Sounds like too little? Not really because i fly wearing loose-fitting casual pants, long sleeve shirt, t-shirt underneath, socks and casual shoes.

Back to the bag. It looks like a backpack but packs like luggage. The zipper goes around 3 sides so you can pack comfortably. There is a fabric divider which will keep things from clumping at the bottom of the bag when it kept in a vertical position. I put my shoes in plastic bags and packed them in the "south" of the bag with my pants and heavier items while my shirts go in the higher level with the light stuff. Of course, the zippers can be locked.

Besides the large main compartment, there is a zipper which opens to add another 2 inches of capacity. I've never had to use it and i imagine that if I did, this bag would become just as large and unwieldy as wheeled luggage. But it's good to know that if i need the extra space to bring back any "great finds", I can load it up and check it in.

Next up, the laptop compartment which I do not use because smartphones are just as helpful in a wifi equipped room. And I do make sure my hotel had wifi before I book it. So I use this easy to access area to hold a book or two. This pocket can also be locked.

Then there is a small dual zippered area on the top front. Looks like it's been made seperate to hold used socks/underwear or light shoes. I do not use this pocket at all because it opens way to easily, so I keep a small tsa lock on it at all times.

We now move on to the second largest compartment. Here you can keep everyhting else that you will need like cameras, chargers, electric shavers, books, etc... Very good size for a secondary area. Along the inside of the flap there is a cell phone pocket, and small mesh pocket, and two zippered pockets for documents and wallet. Can also be locked.

The next zipper is vertical and secures a pocket along the outside of the pack. Here is another good place to keep a book. Specifically the one you will need easy access to. This area is not lockable.

There is another small zippered pocket off to the side in which is stored a bottle holder cinch sack which you would use while actually carrying the pack on your back as it sticks out too far to keep a bottle in here while doing anything else. Not lockable.

This brings us to the final compartment on the back of the pack in which hides the carrying straps which can be attached very quickly and easily and are very well padded and make carrying this pack around very pleasant, even for long distances. If you feel the desire to run you simply attach the chest strap (included, along with waist strap and a shoulder strap) which enables the pack to stay the course. It's zipper can be locked as well.

Oh, and there is a carrying handle on top and one along the side and a "pick up strap" along the bottom end so that you dont have to touch the bottom of the bag when lifting in that manner.

I do believe I've covered it all.

Mission accomplished.

Debated back & forth on whether to purchase this or the Rick Steves convertible backpack for my son's 3 week trek through Europe. Saw the other seemed to have quality issues, so I took a chance on the ebags Mother Lode Weekender, as I was impressed with their lifetime warranty. The twisted poly material seems very durable (looks in appearance like ballistic nylon, but smoother), and the black makes for an attractive bag. Seams are well reinforced, and there are lots of carrying options. Padded straps are very comfortable. Didn't realize when I ordered that it came with a separate padded strap that you can attach to carry over your shoulder if you choose. Also didn't know that it had an expandable zipper option, which is what I was hoping for. Outside pocket is also very deep, so plenty of room for packing. Lots of large & small storage compartment areas (even a pull out water bottle holder) possibly more than one would use, but good to know they're there, as are the built in dividers. All that can only help keep one more organized & make it much easier to get through security. Four outer compression straps can really cinch down your pack. Plenty of room for his 15" laptop, if he takes it, although that would add to the weight. The only concern I have would be whether the heavy plastic clips will withstand the test of time, but I imagine if not, the warranty will take care of that. There's a great video on the ebags website that shows you how to best utilize all the compartments/features.

Follow-up: One year later we have used this bag on a few different trips (I borrowed it when my husband & I went to Italy last fall. We took that, 1 small rolling bag & a drawstring bag for a 10 day trip & were set). The backpack really is well made; I was very impressed & have recommended it to others without hesitation.

I just took a trip for five days and wanted to stick with carry-on and avoid checking fees. Everything fit into the bag perfectly with room to spare, I was able to easily fit two large souvenir mugs and some extras I'd picked up on my trip. I was able to pack things neatly since the bag has a divider in the main compartment which really helped when my bag went through the X-ray.

There are so many pockets and compartments, there were a few that I hadn't noticed until I was packing and still one more that I didn't notice until about halfway through my trip. There were a couple of times when I was trying to find "just the right spot" to pack something and I just started opening pockets and found the perfect place for everything.

The dimensions were almost exactly the maximum dimensions for carry-on luggage, but I think that was based on using the expansion zipper because my bag fit perfectly into the overhead with room to spare.

Finally, I really love how lightweight the bag is I am a 5'1" woman and I didn't want to be hauling around a bag that weighed too much (plus there is the weight limit for carry-on luggage). I was amazed when I weighed the bag after I'd packed everything I needed.... everything weighed just under 15 lbs! The bag wasn't so comfortable that I'd go backpacking in Europe with it, but it was great for the maneuvering I had to do through the airport and the airplane.

I bought this bag about a year and a half ago from ebags. I have been to San Francisco, Thailand, New York, Las Vegas, and Chicago with this bag. It has held up like new. I love all the organization compartments and the different ways to carry the bag. I don't know if you notice this but the zippers can be locked. I bought some non TSA brass locks for stuff I wanted secure. With so many compartments it is very easy to misplace stuff. It did take a couple of days to get used to where to put everything. This is like the swiss army of carry on bags because it has so many roles. With the increased fees for checked bags I find this bag to be a great deal to stuff as much travel stuff as possible. I have never had a problem placing the bag in the overhead bin on any airline even when the bag was fully expanded. Do your self a huge favor and go to the ebags website or youtube to look at the features of the bag which are indeed ingenious. The bag comes in at 3 lbs, 15 oz which is great especially when you fly over seas where the carry on bag limit can be restricted to 15 pounds! I have never seen the weight restriction imposed. If the airlines start to enforce the limit or lower the weight then it is great to be to squeeze every little ounce if you have too. Buy this bag if you travel or plan on traveling. I hope this review helped because just like you, I read what you review when I buy something.

I bought this bag for a 6 month trip wandering around Europe. I'm around 5ft 2, average weight, female & thought this bag was a perfect fit. My last pack was a High Sierra model that sat too high on my shoulders & always felt like it was choking me, and I had no such problems with this pack. I did bring a smaller pack with me for day to day things (the front pack off my old High Sierra, actually), but this pack is big enough to hold the essentials. Good organization, sturdy design. I used packing cubes for my clothes & whatnot, 1 large one at the top, and then 2 smaller ones with heavier stuff down the bottom, and never had an uncomfortable moment with this pack. Highly recommended.

Dakine Explorer Pack Laptop Backpack, BlocksI love this backpack. Has everything I was looking for, laptop pocket, plenty of pockets for small items, two water bottle holders and I love the felt lined pocket for sunglasses. I was concerned that the water bottle pockets would be too small or not deep enough by just looking at the product picture, but they can accommodate Sigg and classic Nalgene bottles.

Beautiful, unique. Lots of people asking where I got it. Sturdy and good quality. Would buy from same brand again.

Kelty Tactical Strike 2300 Backpack

Kelty Tactical Strike 2300 BackpackThis is a very well built and useful pack, and may surprise you at just how much it can hold. Based on the reviews I had seen online, I have to say it more than lives up to the positive reputation. I originally was using a Maxpedition Malaga to serve as a small BOB, but as I continued to collect smaller items here and there, I realized that the Malaga was just not suited for what I really had in mindwhich was a more comprehensive and extended-use BOB. The Kelty 2300 took all of the contents which had once maximized the space in my Malaga and still had plenty more room to go. The side pouches were very useful for quick access items and also provide a perfect fit for my Gerber folding shovel. There is a hole at the top to allow direct access to a hydration/water bladder and it comes with a strong support frame which is very comfortable, even with my 40-45 lbs of gear. The only downside from what I can tell is that it lacks the MOLLE attachments you see so often on 'tactical' backpacks these days, however, this did not prevent me from fitting all of my gear inside the pack. There are also lateral 'loops' on the backside of the pack which allow you to put a flashlight or other item for quick use, or attach a detachable small purposes med kit, etc. I don't mean to give a false impression of it's sizerelatively speaking it is probably more in the medium-sized range, but it may surprise you with just how much equipment it can accommodate comfortably.

Great bag for when the SHTF. Tough, well designed and proven.Top notch Kelty suspension system. It is a good 72 hour bag and it does not look particularly tactical (unless you get camo). I've got it packed up as a travel bag as I can get called out of town on short notice. Holds everything I need for a couple days away.

No molle on this bag so if you like to attach a lot of accessories your out of luck; but' if you want a nice tight streamlined bag you can move fast in check out this Kelty.

Disney Princess Once Upon a Time Coloring Activity Backpack....Contains 3 color markers, water colors, 20 coloring sheets & paint brushI bought this as a present for my 4.5 year old niece who was my flower girl in my wedding. I'm glad I didn't just hand it to her without taking a look at it. The "backpack" itself is cute. Princesses, purple, pink. You know, the thing any 4 year old wants. But inside, the activity book / whatever it is was pretty skimpy. I bought some Water Wow Activity Books (big BIG hit) and a few other trinkets to put inside the backpack to make it more interesting. She loved it and toted it around the whole weekend. I gave it 3 stars because it really should contain more and you're going to have to spend a few bucks to fill it up.

Case Logic VLS-114 13-Inch, 14-Inch Laptop Sleeve (Black)

Case Logic VLS-114 13-Inch, 14-Inch Laptop SleeveI have to say, I was hesitant on getting this sleeve, for that some said it would fit the 15.4 inch laptops, and some 16's. I ordered this one, got in the mail just recently, tried it out, and it fits my Dell Studio XPS 16 (w/ the 16 inch screen) like a GLOVE!!! I LOVE the fact that on one side of it is lined with suede, so removing it makes it very easy!!! I feel confident now that I don't have to worry about leaving my computer somewhere, or have it collect dust, since I'm deployed out in Afghanistan at the moment. The zipper felt good, wasn't flimsy or anything, it should last as long as I keep the computer.

Also, I had ordered an OGIO Politan Pack just recently, and wasn't sure if the Sleeve with my laptop inside of it would fit, but sure enough it did!!! Not only am I happy with the purchase, but at the fact that sleeve fits PERFECTLY within the OGIO Politan Backpack!! So if it fits my 16inch XPS without any issues, any 15.4 inch laptop SHOULD fit in here as well...

I was looking for a basic sleeve to protect my iPad and Apple wireless keyboard while stowed inside my backpack. This case fit the bill perfectly. Additionally, the quality of design, materials, and construction FAR exceeded my expectations considering what I paid (under $15).

General comments:

Basic sleeve design for a netbook or iPad, as advertised. The construction is high quality, especially for the price. The material feels sturdy in hand, but is exceptionally light. Both sides of the sleeve are padded (neither side is rigid). The interior surface is smooth nylon. The interior portion of the zipper is protected from contents by a lip of fabric which, by its design, does NOT get caught up in the zipper. The zipper itself runs from the top left corner of the sleeve all the way down the right side of the sleeve, giving you the flexibility to only open the sleeve from the top or open it up more widely. Accented patches at the bottom and front center are a nice touch, providing good grip points.

iPad specific:

Bought the sleeve to house my iPad. Was despairing because I could not find a simple case to house both my iPad and my Apple wireless keyboard. Thought I would be forced to leave the sleeve open at the top with the keyboard sticking out. To my surprise, the iPad AND keyboard fit nicely together in the sleeve. The keyboard takes up the maximum height of the case, but the zipper closes nicely without being forced or rubbing, even with the iPad inside also.

Buy Case Logic VLS-114 13-Inch, 14-Inch Laptop Sleeve (Black) Now

I bought this case over the other neoprene cases available from Caselogic, though it was the purchase of another neoprene case as a gift that turned me on to the Caselogic laptop sleeves. I opted for this model because of the tougher fabric from which it is made and because it is more padded.

The case is very solid. As others have noted, the small accent patches of softer suede-like material on the ends make it much easier to grip the case, and the case provides very good protection for a laptop.

Despite the benefits of the padding, it is also, perhaps, the case's biggest drawback. It is quite thick in comparison the neoprene cases against which it might be compared. But since it has no external pockets, that thickness comes with no capacity to carry the accessories--like a laptop charger or earbud headphones, etc--you might need if you intend to use this case as your primary means of transporting your laptop. I use this case, in its 14" size, primarily to protect my laptop when I carry it in my larger briefcase to prevent my computer from sliding around or getting damaged by pens and the like in my larger bag. It is excellent in this capacity, and also serves me well when I go on quick errands where I know I won't be needing to plug in my laptop and don't want to carry my whole briefcase.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the case. It does its job well, and I don't mind the slightly larger size because I appreciate the extra padding and protection--the reason I bought the case in the first place.

My iPad is in an Apple iPad case but I need a little more protection when it is in my backpack for traveling. Most so called iPad sleeves are expensive so I bought this thing, it fits well and it is cheap. Quite happy with this.

*note: edited review two weeks after purchase* This is a very comfortable and compact case and build quality is excellent. It would be my favorite case if not for two things:

1) My 10.1" Aspire One with the larger 6-cell battery pack *BARELY* fits. It's a very tight squeeze and the zipper takes some effort to get it to close around the corners.

2) No room for extras. It's a real stretch to get any extras in the case. I cannot zip it closed if I put the power cord, mouse, etc in this same case.

This is a sturdy, well padded and very protective case. If you need to carry extras with it, choose something larger.

Ogio Juggernaut Backpack

Ogio Juggernaut BackpackThis backpack is stylish, lightweight, and holds a lot. My son is using it for college and it holds all the books, laptop, calculator, and food! He is very pleased with the backpack and would recommend it.

I needed a bag to replace my Ecko bag that started ripping inside and began losing zippers. I wanted a nice looking bag that had plenty of room like the Ecko backpack. I did a little research and found this OGIO bag. I never heard of the brand before and found they make a few different bags. I got the Juggernaut for $40 which I thought was a good price.

Here's what I like about the bag, I'll start with the organizer pocket. It's the biggest organizer in a bag I've owned. It has a clip for keys, a cell phone pocket, pencil/pen pocket, a netted pocket zipper and one big pocket.

The next compartment headed towards the shoulder straps is a big compartment without any pockets. It opens wide and is roomy.

The next compartment is a small, padded area for glasses or maybe a Microsoft Zune HD and headphones. :) It's a place to protect small items.

The next compartment is another big one. It has a laptop sleeve and it's roomy. This is the pocket that means the most to me. I wanted to be able to stack my shoes in the bottom of the bag and have room to add other stuff I'd need for the gym. It works just like my old Ecko Bag.

Other nice touches are how the front sternum straps are on rails which is the only way I can describe it. I've never seen this. It allows you to adjust their location higher or lower. I like all the loops placed around the bag. I use one of them for my locker lock just 'cuz. It has a bottle holder on both sides of the back. There is padding on the shoulder straps and back of the backpack which is nice. A cool touch is that the inside of the bag has circuitry printed on the material. Good touch there as I'm geeky! LOL! It's pleasant surprise that made me smile at least. :p Lastly I like the zippers. The zipper tracks on my Ecko bag kept coming loose allowing the zippers to fall off. I had to sew a few back in. It doesn't seem like that will be an issue on this bag as they seem to be sewn in really well.

So far great bag that seems like it's going to hold up. It's as roomy as my last bag but seems to have a lot more quality.

OGIO FTW!

Buy Ogio Juggernaut Backpack Now

The Juggernaut is the only Ogio backpack we've found that can truly accommodate two hard loose leaf binders (3" and 2"), assorted hard cover books, planner, electronic gadgets, arts and crafts supplies, and still leave room to spare. We like the Ogio brand because the fabrics they use are tough and comfortable, but our school requires the kids to use looseleaf binders, and they take up a lot of room. If the zipper fits around the binder too closely it will break and the backpack will become useless. The Juggernaut solved that problem for us. It should also fit a small laptop in the laptop padded pocket.

The netted "water bottle pockets" that Ogio typically adds on most of its backpacks (used for pens in my household) are made of stronger netting than a traditional backpack uses...so they don't break when they are filled with pens, cell phones, and various pointy objects.

The price, at around $40 on Amazon, is a bargain for a backpack this well-engineered. I hope Ogio continues to make this fantastic model. BTW, the brown one is in stock as of this writing, even though it is noted "not in stock" on this review page.

I bought this to replace my 15 year old's Jansport big student (which is stilling good shape). The reason we picked the Juggernaut was because of its roominess. My son does not like going to his locker in between classes, so he carries EVERYTHING in his backpack...which weighs around 50 lbs. The Jansport pack is still in good shape after 3 yrs use, but the zippers are strained and he wanted a little more room.

When I pulled the Ogio bag out, I was dismayed by its thinness. The bottom seems to have no reinforcements at all--in fact, it feels like a wind breaker...

Now, this could be some amazing, space-age material that will hold up to the abuse of a teen-on-the-go, so I guess we will have to wait and see what happens when clases resume in the fall...I will try to post a follow up then...

I love all the room this backpack provides. The zippers are well made, I've had this backpack for a year and all the zippers still work perfectly. A+ product.

Thule EnRoute Escort Daypack for 17-Inch MacBook Pro and 10-Inch Tablets - Gray (TEED-117)

Thule EnRoute Escort Daypack for 17-Inch MacBook Pro and 10-Inch Tablets - GrayI have yet to be disappointed by Thule products...why? Thule makes quality, durable products that consumers need. Yes, you will spend more money for Thule products but I can't see what there would be to complain about.

This particular back pack is built for a 17 inch MacBook Pro/10 Inch tablets. I have an older HP Pavillion that fits just fine, along with an iPad and Kindle-all these (and more) fit fine in this bag. Not to mention there is plenty of room for all the "extras" people take with them. I use this bag for commuting to and from work and errands; I use it for a few extra books, chargers, water bottles, phone, sunglasses, sun block, and lunch. The pack holds all this and there is plenty of room for more.

The pack itself is heavy nylon; it feels thick, not a cheap thin material that might be more apt to wear holes in the bottom or sides. The metal zippers and straps are heavy metal, not plastic where there might be a higher chance of breakage. The back of the pack that is against your back is padded, so even if you are hauling a heavy load, you have less chance of something poking you in the back when you shift. The pack also has stabilizer straps to keep the pack in place. I personally do not use them, but I know my kids find these can be helpful when biking or carrying heavy loads. The best part of the pack is the "Safe Zone" located at the top front of the pack. It is perfect for a phone, sunglasses or camera because it is made with a hard outer shell that keeps items inside from getting smashed. I love that they thought of this AND it works perfect and is easy to get too.

Whether this is the exact "design" you are looking for, keep Thule in mind, I have yet to have a problem with their products. I know I sound like a salesman, but the products truly are quality. I have not had to call customer service or file any sort of complaint with the company. So I cannot report on how well their customer service is at this company. Hopefully, I never will need to call them!

This is the perfect commuter daypack for busy people who need to have a 15" laptop/ notebook with them. The outer cover against the back is well-padded, providing a laptop protection from drops, hits or whatnot. A center compartment can carry the cords and other accessories, and a third outer compartment can carry smaller stuff like cellphone/charger, sunglasses and other business-related stuff. A "Safe Zone" on the outer side is for fragile or smaller items and is nicely padded against slams, drops or hard hits in that area.

When this pack is fully loaded it spreads out nicely but does not hamper movement, as the sides to this pack are narrow.

The pack is, as shown, all black with some blue zipper covers. Empty this pack weighs 2.4 pounds, so that alone should limit the use to urban commuting with electronics. This would not be a good gym bag as none of the compartments are large for bulky items, nor would this be an ideal backpack for day hikes for the same reason because most of the padding is centered against the back to protect a laptop. I also would not recommend this as a carry-on for the same reasons already stated unless you are a minimalist. The best use for this pack is for the office person or commuter.

Compression straps on the side help keep the load streamlined. There is one small mesh pouch on either side of the pack for 16-ounce water bottles.

The color is basic black, which is ideal for business environments.

As far as the construction goes, this backpack seems quite sturdy. It has adjustable chest and hip straps for stability. it also has front to back straps to compress the volume if the pack is not full. The sections that are padded are quite sturdy, and there are loads of pockets. A semi-hard pocket is on the outside for easy accessibility of sunglasses or a small electronic device.

Unfortunately, the chest strap will not go high enough to avoid pinching a female chest, and the straps over the shoulders are way too broad for me. Also the shoulder straps are too long for my shorter torso and cannot be adjusted to fit, even at the tightest adjustment.

This would probably be a great pack for a gentleman carrying an ipad or laptop, but it just didn't work for my short torso and fuller figured frame.

I would highly recommend this backpack to anyone who needs to transport laptops or electronic equipment. The construction is such that it is excellent quality and padded to protect. The storage is not the typical that would be found in a regular backpack, but is laid out for electronics. Enjoy!

This is an awesome backpack. I previously used a very large backpack for vacation. This one I used for the first time on a weeklong dive trip. I fit 4 books, 1 MacBook Pro, a package of cables, one camera, several pens and a bunch of snacks into it.

One of the coolest things about the backpack is it has a hard case on the top to protect sunglasses. My wife had recently just bought me a pair of sunglasses and I wasn't sure how I was going to transport them. This backpack got them there and back safe and sound

The pack is very comfortable to wear and has a lot of cushioning to protect the laptop and to provide comfort on your back. The material is very high-quality and I expect this backpack to last a long time. Overall I think this thing is a great buy.

Urban Gear U100 Pro Backpack, Black

Urban Gear U100 Pro Backpack, BlackI bought this bag from (OMG) a retail store!! The price is the same and I like to support BAM's whenever I can. Anyway, the backpack is simply perfect, especially for the price. Very well padded and double stitching in all the right places. The back and strap padding makes it pretty comfortable to carry too. If you go with other more famous brands, you could easily pay $200 for this level of quality. I had no problem getting my dell or IBM 15" laptops inside. I can carry ALL of my equipment which includes a DSLR with a long lens, 2 extra lens, a light meter, flash, cables, and manuals for all...and there are still open slots left for growth.

I highly recommend!!!

I bought this bag and really liked it....until I tried to put my laptop inside. According the manufacturer information my laptop should have fit with no problem. It didn't. Seems the rounded top took some of the size off. Great bag for a small laptop but I'm still looking for the right bag for me.

I found this in a Ritz camera store and it was cheaper then anything else I'd previously seen so I decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did. It's so awesome. Easily fits my Canon t2i, four lenses, battery pack, lens cleaner, filters, and other things. An even added bonus is the laptop storage in the back. Probably won't fit a 17'' one but easily a 15''.

I just got the new backpack and its great. I could fit all my cords and all my gear inside it just fine. Right now I don't have a ton of gear but i fitted everything in there just fine and I have a lot of room to spare. The item arrived quick and undamaged and I was very pleased with the overall service. This bag does it all and has it all. If your the type who travels a lot, or likes to have their camera in a good bag while being outdoors, look no further

This bag is wonderful. It has enough room to pack two separate cameras, great quality, ample padding, rugged, and I have no complaints, a fine product. The seller, on the other hand was the absolutely worst I have ever worked with. On this order, I ordered several things, they got the bag right, but the flash and adaptor were wrong, and it took me many days, and over 50 e-mail copies to correct the situation. I have never delt with so many non-American people, working from scripted, worthless information.

Go for the case, but seriously look for a different vendor.
