Briggs & Riley Luggage Excursion Messenger Bag, Slate, Large

I have several Briggs & Riley pieces after I finally realized that most luggage is poor quality these days. Have had this bag for a few weeks and, although I haven't punished it enough, it feels really solid, particularly the plastic snaps, which seem like they would otherwise be vulnerable. (Their bags have a lifetime warranty).

Design comments:

* Pad on shoulder strap is comfortable and shoulder strap lengthen-shorten unit doesn't slip like it can on many bags of this type

* Bag just feels too big; for a guy who's 5' 7" it's just too wide

* Had laptop pouch but is, again, a little big, made for people carrying 17"+ computers, which doesn't seem to align with the idea of a shoulder bag. Too big for an iPad

* As I guy, I don't know how women manage purses but so far I'm finding that it doesn't have enough pockets, so if you have a lot of devices, keys, papers, etc., they end up getting loose like I presume they would in a purse.

* Ocean color was on sale when I bought it; if you wear a lot of blue consider that this bag may clash aesthetically.

Overall: does the job and is high quality but more interior pockets and a shrunken size would make it better.

High Sierra Swerve Backpack

I really wanted to like this bag. I got the Charcoal/Chipotle/Black one and it's pretty nice. It has lots of pockets, which could border on too many for some users. I sometimes forget which of the pockets hold my stuff. The zippers are nice, and just big enough to grasp and pull easily.

Besides all the compartments, there are lots of smaller pockets. The very first compartment can hold all your knickknacks. It has pen/pencil holders, zippered pockets, non-zippered pockets, "velcroed" pockets...you get the idea.

The second compartment has a mini pocket up top designed for an mp3 player. Above that pocket is even a port to push a headphone jack so you can listen to your tunes as you walk.

There is a tiny soft-lined pocket at the very top that I normally use to store things like my camera, phone and mp3 player i.e. things I don't want scratched. That's one of the things I like most about the bag.

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th compartments are great for books with lots of room. However the fourth compartment held a surprise laptop pocket complete with a strap and buckle. I didn't have a laptop at the time I bought this, but now that I own one, I'm really happy it's there.

The straps are nice and wide also, making it easier to carry around on your back.

The ONLY thing I do not like about this backpack is that "Vapel mesh" that they added to the back. That thing has caused trauma to my polos and t-shirts you would not believe. Every polo and T-shirt I wear with this has caused the fabric to twill BADLY. I've never had clothes damaged by a backpack like this has. And for this reason, and this reason alone, I wish I never bought this bag. No one else has mentioned this problem, so it may well be only me.

I've had numerous backpacks over the years, and this one is the best one I've ever owned. Yes, it's large. Yes, there are tons of pockets and organization. The previous reviews have listed them in detail.... what I'd like to emphasize is the extreme comfort! A couple of days ago, I ran abt a quarter of a mile in the rain with this bag, a 13" macbook (b/c there are adjustable straps on the inside of the compartment to make the bag fit the laptop instead of the other way around! Serious SCORE!), a notebook/binder, 2 super heavy college text books and various small items. Not only was I able to run, I was able to do so comfortably! It cinches down easily. The padding on the back ROCKS! The lumbar portion makes it fit easily to the contour of your back, and the suspension straps give when they need to without pulling on your shoulders and neck. The only thing I didn't love is the waist strap, but it tucks away easily behind the lumbar padding; honestly, I don't even remember it's there anymore. This bag has taken a beating over the past year, and it still looks beautiful! I'd like another colour, but I can't really justify the expense b/c this one is going to last a loooooooong time.

I purchased this backpack for extensive general everyday and weekend use (aka my "man purse"). I carry my gym clothes and other miscellaneous gear to and from work every day which involves daily repetitive usage of the zippers and pockets. I also use it for travelling and weekend trips, sometimes with large (heavy) loads and can be VERY tough on a backpack in general. In the past I owned a North Face (Recon) pack which at almost 6 years old was dated in design though not falling apart.

This pack seems on par with the quality of the North Face pack, as far as materials go and at less than half the price. The design is PERFECT for travelling (with three *separate* large compartments, as well as lots of cool little stash spots). Perfect, nay -IDEALfor organization on a 3-day+ trip. The feel of the pack is solid, and very well made. The zippers, a crucial fail point on cheap packs, are thick-toothed and burly! The laptop pouch is great, and easy to access in line at aiport security via it's own special zipper right above the straps. It is also WELL padded, including the bottom (where it rightly has the thickest padding) The carrying handle on top is a dream padded and comfortable. I often carry my pack using that handle, so it's nice to see it becoming standard on many packs these days.

I initially wondered why the water bottle pouches (2) did not have cinch straps at the top like North Face does but in actual usage I actually prefer them like this. I tend to use the side pockets for quick-access storage, and these flush-mount pouches are superior to the loose, floppy North Face design. They are deep as well, so they hold tall bottles WAY better, as well as a bunch of random stuff when I want to quickly dump things somewhere when on the go.

The very top small storage pouch is awesome and PERFECTLY designed when I go to lunch I can dip right in for my wallet and keys without having to dig around or even move the bag at all brilliant. Perfect for "ready access" items. The front "organizer" pouch has a killer little Velcro "phone pocket" in it (this is better for storing smallish items like lip balm, coins and extra batteries rather than a phone) the rest of the organizer area is pretty "meh" like most organizers in backpacks. Things tend to just get thrown into that front pocket. I find the side (water bottle) pouches better to drop a phone into (it's easier to hear it ring too).

The shoulder straps are the best I have ever used on a daypack. The High Sierra "integrated suspension system" WORKS (I was very doubtful). This thing feels like a dream on the back. Also, a really cool feature is that the bottom straps have stopper clips on them to prevent that annoying "run through" where a strap comes out of the fastener and hangs free. How is this the first pack I have ever seen this on?? These stopper clips also have super handy "pullin' holes" where you can tighten them with one finger, another incredibly innovative design that took me by surprise.

High Sierra has hit a home run with this pack as far as I am concerned, and obviously I am very anal about my backpack performance and specs (it literally goes EVERYWHERE I go, in all conditions, with all types of loads). I appreciated the very detailed reviews of various packs when I started looking for a new one, so I hope others of like mind find this of interest!

Side note: Several reviewers expressed concern over "that extra fabric covering the two main zippers". These are rain flaps which help prevent water intrusion through the zipper. I guess only `backpack idiot savants' like me know that. Yes they can get in the way sometimes, but you'll be very glad it's there during a downpour they make a big difference.

I paid 39.00 (with free Prime shipping 2-day delivery black/black model) and boy does this seem like one hell of a deal!

UPDATE: I have discovered that the laptop pouch also doubles as an amazing beer cooler. I can easily fit 3 bottles (more possibly) in there, along with my gel icepack. It's essentially *AS GOOD* as any softsided cooler, and found it kept my drinks cold and safe all night. Sweet!!

Also, I have to re-state this, the little "stash pouch" (on top) for ready-access stuff like keys and wallet, is perhaps the best single innovation I have ever seen on a pack. NO MORE digging around in other pockets for my keys & such! At concerts, it has proven to be a godsend when I am slightly inebriated. Not to mention at work when I need to grab my keys and run, I don't even need to move my pack.

***UPDATE TEN MONTHS LATER***

The pack still looks brand new! It has been to two multi-day camping music festivals, a week in New Orleans on foot, several day hikes, 7 concerts, MANY weekend trips, MANY beach trips, and DAILY use back and forth to my office (where it is often used to courier my Amazon purchases home). If there is a known punishment that humans can inflict upon a helpless backpack, verily I have delivered it unto this High Sierra!

Is the fabric made of a futuristic, impenetrable teflon-adamantium fibre? Are the zippers forged from molten eagle talons? Was the design itself created by a 13-year-old boy with Asperger's living in the Ukraine and enhanced with gamma rays? I DON'T KNOW!!

But it is one hell of a pack!

This is the 2nd High Sierra back pack that was purchased in our home in 4 months. Upon a recommendation from his younger sister my older child, an 11th grade boy bought the exact same bag. He is not real particular about the color, the number of pockets or the style. The most important thing we looked for was durability and the large space for many books and binders.

Everything works with this bag. I picked 4 other bags at retail stores, some more expensive, some less and one brand name that he didn't want to wear but he wasn't happy with any of those choices.

I was a bit apprehensive when I selected the color(charcoal blue) since it didnt give the bag a fresh,new brand look. I got my bag withing a week and when I saw it, it was not at all disappointing. Overall, I like the bag very much. Too comfortable to carry al sorts of things that u need. My only concern(and a trivial one) is that my laptop has to be pushed in it with a little force.It would have been better if the laptop compartment would be a bit larger. Dakine Mission Photo Pack

I ordered this product to carry my SLR around Thailand. I wanted a small, inconspicuous bag that didn't look like a camera bag, with a waist strap. This was what other reviewers had touted this product for, so I was excited to receive it. Unfortunately it was still quite large, and due to its size still gave the impression of a camera bag. I had to return it immediately. Also, the straps were a little high up on my neck and I couldn't adjust them down enough to fit just right. I'm 5'6", with a standard female length torso and perhaps this would better fit a taller woman or a man. I'd recommend this product for the individual looking for a sturdy SLR bag, who wants to carry around several lenses at a time (I generally only take 1-2). I ended up converting a camelback of mine with some foam and fabric to do essentially the same thing without the extra cost, weight or size.

Everything fine, really good backpack and is the best for your camera set up. You can use the waterproof accesorie, and an aditional strap to mount your tripod.

I bought this bag for travel overnight or up to 3 days. This bag fits my lightweight overnight clothes, neck pillow, some snacks, water bottle, a couple of magazines, my work folders, laptop, battery, cell phone, iPod, and chargers.

Easy to maneuver on the airline aisles and small enough to fit under the airplane seat. If you fill it up, it will get pretty heavy. It comes with shoulder strap but why use it if you have wheels? If you fill it up, it will get too heavy to carry on your shoulders at the airport. The wheels don't spin, but you can walk straight or turn without a problem with the wheels. The handle appears to be very sturdy for me so far. I have it for almost 9 months now and still looking new and no sign of wear or tear.

The details of this bag is great 2 outside zipped pockets. There are slots for every small and big electronic gadgets, money, pens and keys you may have! You can put small items on the small pocket like passport, e-ticket/boarding pass, etc.

I own a 15" Dell XPS laptop and is a good fit. I can also fit my 17" Inspiron on this slot. The laptop section is well padded.

If I could change somethinng I will make it TSA friendly where you can open the bag in the middle and put on the x-ray machine without taking it out of the bag.

I purchased this case after having another Targis for 3 years. That case was ok but this one exceeds all of my requirements and more. The handle is strong, computer is protected and it fits all of my electronics ( computer stuff, ipod, backup hard drive, various cables and enough pockets for papers.

A spent a great deal of time looking for a roller computer case that would hold the laptop vertically instead of horizontally to make for easy rolling down airplane aisles. This was virtually the only such bag I found. But it is much larger than it needs to be and consequently heavier than it needs to be. The height of this bag is more than necessary -higher than needed for packing papers and higher than needed for a normal size laptop. I got this pack for my son as a gift, so I'll let him do the review..

I'd been debating over whether to ask for this pack for a couple of months, while I checked out user reviews and did some research online. Satisfied that "military assault pack" wasn't total BS, I asked my mom to order it for me. The price ($120) was absolutely reasonable for what came in the box. Let's cut to the chase. I'm not active or reservist military. But I know good 'gear' when I see it. I hike a lot, and I can say that the MAP 3500 is an excellent pack for most uses. It has aluminum stays in the pack to keep shape and also to give some sort of back support. Several compartments to store various items. The 'admin' area will do nicely for people who commute or work out of a pack during the day, such as students. Space for a couple of pens/pencils, etc.

To give you an idea of how tough this pack is, it is used by the Seals to train with, and they put weighted plates in it. I can grab this pack by the daisy chain, which is ordinarily not exactly heavy-duty on a pack, and shake the pack by this all over the place. No seam rippage.

Kelty is a very good company, and this pack is a very good deal. I've had it only a couple of weeks, but I am always finding reasons to sling it on and take it with me. The straps are velcro adjustable, and very well padded. They will fit a big guy like me with no problems. The only thing I deduct a star for is the waist belt is a few inches too small to fit me. Since it is a reasonably light pack, I only take away 1 star. I doubt most people will need the belt. But, it is removable. I might lose a few pounds later on and see if I can fit it on. But, as I said, not a deal-breaker for this style of pack. You likely won't be loading that much inside. I mostly have some books, daily odds and ends, and a jacket for when it's windy.

The pack is hydration 'ready'. That means, it has a sleeve where you can put a hydration bladder (such as Camelbak), and a pass-through port out of the compartment to run your hose. There is also a strap-secured sleeve in front of the hydration sleeve, where you could in theory stow a 2nd bladder, or anything else you need to keep secure, like a small laptop computer. I put my netbook in there in it's neoprene case. It fits well.

There are mesh pockets on the outside for drinking bottles or canteens, one on each side of the pack. They are cinchable, and can hold most commercially available bottles. The small to medium ones, anyway. I've found a tall bottle will ride better if you tuck it under one of the pack's compression straps.

I chose foliage because I have *A LOT* of black packs and bags, and foliage is very neutral. It doesn't present a bright image. Handy for if you are bird-watching or otherwise trying not to be very conspicuous. It's a nice neutral color scheme. I was also impressed with the variety of color choices Kelty offers for this pack. I notice a lot of 'military' packs come in 1 to 3 colors, no more. This one has several, and you should be able to find something you like.

As a hiking or daypack, this pack is *PERFECT*, in my opinion. It's not too big, not too small, and will organize what you need organized. It can stuff a lot of items inside. More than you'd think, given the profile. But, all in all, I really like it. I also like the lack of drainage grommets. I have some packs that have massive drain holes that all manner of insects and critters can get into. As long as you keep this thing zipped, it should be secure.

To summarize, it is a great pack, reasonably priced, and should be good for just about anything you might need a backpack for. Great for school, great for light travel. It's considered a 3 day pack, I believe. I know I can put 3 days worth of clothing inside, with room to spare.

I bought my MAP 3500 a few months ago and use it 5 days a week for work, and I'm not just throwing it on the front seat of my car and dragging it to the office, but I walk to work at least twice a week 6 miles one way 12 round trip.

There's plenty of room for my laptop, iPad, books, lunch, water, a couple cans of coke, wipes, etc... and the nice thing about it is it doesn't look bulky while wearing it and its extremely comfortable, supportive and durable. I stuff it full or items for the day and am happy to report that there are no signs of wear and tear! I walk in rain and it wears nicely.

Where I live, it can reach up over 100 degrees for weeks at a time, and that's where the back panel comes in keeping it as cool as possible, off the back, in the heat. Lots of loops, straps and adjustments for comfort.

I can't say enough about this back pack. It's nice to know that there are still some companies out there that make good products and Kelty is one of them.

I got this pack for train-up before deployment. I got the Multi-cam version to mix with the new uniforms. I knew the Kelty name from my other 3 hiking packs and knew the quality would be good.

When I first used the pack for a 2 day op, it fit well, was sturdy, and held my gear, water and MREs securely with the cinch straps. The outside pockets held 48 oz nalgene bottles very well. But what I really loved were the shoulder straps and back panel... Good air flow and moisture control! This has become my favorite pack for long day trips or overnights. I'll likely get another one in brown for everyday use.

This is the pack I've been looking for. Couldn't find just what I wanted and needed in the stores; nice packs but not just what I wanted. This pack is used to haul all the stuff you need for a day at the zoo or a cold morning at the soccer game. It's full of ponchos, water, sunblock, you name it. When the weather warms up, the jackets and sweaters go into the pack. The waist belt is removable for what I need; can be reinstalled if needed for a real hike. The ONLY thing I would suggest is larger zippers, but the ones that come with it now are not a deal breaker. Size wise I call it a day pack. A week in the woods and I would want an external frame and as large of a pack as I could move with. This looks like it will last a long time.

My husband bought a kelty map 3500 for use at work. When we planned a trip to the local zoo, I decided to take the pack with us. We bought the camelback bladder and put the kids clothes, snack, books, first aid kit. The bag worked so great, all the things fit nicely and it was not burden to carry, like my old diaper bags. The fact that I could drink fresh water whenever I wanted without having to buy bottles of water was so nice.

I have now bought a pack of my own and whenever we go anywhere we take our packs with us. Everyone always comments what a nice idea it is to carry the pack with the water. I know that before I had the pack I would buy water and soda at very high prices, not anymore.

Case Logic ZLCS-117 Check Point Friendly 17-Inch Laptop Case (Black)

When I first got it I was really looking forward to the check point friendly feature. I travel a lot and bought this bag specifically for this function. While passing through a checkpoint in JFK International Airport just yesterday (16th March), I was refused when I left my laptop in the bag split open as instructed. When it went under the scanner I was instructed to do it over, and this time take it out the bag. I tried to explain how the bags works but it was futile. This also happened in two other airports in two different countries recently.

Another thing i noticed (which was kind of annoying) is that the same zip that splits the bag in half keeps opening up a little when its on one shoulder. I think it should have some kind of hook or something in the new design (if it's going to have one obviously)

On a lighter note it looks professional and neat without all those straps hanging everywhere like other brands. It feels durable when you hold it but it didn't get a long usage test yet.

Oh yes... I like this! But let's first put it into perspective, this isn't a magician's case. You're not going to get more than a day's worth of wearing apparel (and it had better be business casual apparel as well) inside along with your laptop and other techie stuff. But for a single overnight trip, this is by far the best marriage of utilitarian design with style that I've seen. The size of this even makes it a suitable option for those flights where fate (or traffic) has put you in the very last boarding group and "under the seat" is the only option for a carryon.

I won't get into the discussion with regards to the accuracy of TSA-friendly etc., as it's always been my experience that the TSA folks can be just as picky as they want. But it is convenient enough to pull the computer out and place it back in after passing the x-ray.

Actually, I can see a lot of people just using this as something of a mega-briefcase. You know the ones; the sales people with loads of brochures, the lawyers with tons of papers and the office jocks that have to tote along their softball or gym clothes.

Only time will tell as to the durability of the Caselogic 17 incher, but my inspection can't find any noticeable flaws or cut corners. I suspect this will last me for some time to come.

From what I seen, personally.. The item felt very sturdy, strong, and it was a nice size. It had a lovely laptop case that fit perfectly inside, also had tons of zippers in the front. He explains a lot in the video. He used the item a couple times. One time he flew with the item, when he went to Texas. The airport did ask him to take the laptop out of the slot, but he didn't have to open the bag that the laptop was in. You understand? (he explained this to me since I question him about these things, so I can review them)

I work at a university and need to transport various papers and sometimes bulky textbooks. I wanted a backpack to replace what I used to carry: a Land's End briefcase and a separate laptop bag. In buying a backpack, my criteria were:

1) My 13-inch MacBook must fit. It does, no problem. It can hold a substantially larger laptop, but I'm not sure how large. There's a lot of space around my laptop though. The padding is substantial and seems to be adequate.

2) I wanted the backpack to look neat without a lot of straps and stuff hanging loose and no open external pouches. I wanted it to be as streamlined as possible. This one is. About the only thing hanging loose are the zipper pulls, but they're really quite inconspicuous. I like the velcro thingies that keep the excess shoulder strap wrapped up and out of the way. I think I would rather carry a briefcase in a more formal business situation, but this could work in a more casual business setting.

3) I wanted a backpack that could carry all my stuff. It has a fair amount of carrying space for stuff besides the laptop. A lot of pockets in a few compartments. In the main compartment, I carry some folders, maybe a textbook or two, some small stuff and my lunch. One thing that I would have liked different would be one or two more small interior pockets at different heights. As it is, the small stuff tends to all drop to the bottom of the backpack. If the small stuff were spread out more, the backpack could be a little flatter and stuff would be more accessible. That's just a minor preference though and not a major complaint. This backpack can't carry ALL of the stuff that I used to carry in my briefcase and laptop bag, mostly because my lunch would take a beating, but I probably hauled around too much stuff before anyway. This backpack has a lot of space in it though and it really is well-designed.

4) I wanted it to be well made. Overall, the backpack is well constructed. The zippers are sturdy and stay closed. I don't see any apparent weak spots in the construction. The shoulder straps are nicely padded and comfortable. The material seems to be very strong. The single carrying handle on top is adequately padded and appears to be sturdily attached.

I have not flown with this yet so I have not tried out the butterfly feature that supposedly lets you run it through security without taking out your laptop, but the mechanism is nicely designed and quick to use and it would be extremely convenient if the security people let you do it. It would be easy enough to remove the laptop if necessary, so it's not a big deal. A couple of the smaller compartments are very easy to access and would be nice for grabbing boarding passes quickly when whipping through the airport. The flap that lets you slip the backpack over the pull handle of a carry-on bag is nice too. This backpack would be great to travel with. I would use a regular carry-on bag for clothes and all to be stuffed in the overhead bin, and this backpack would be the bag I keep with me and stow under the seat.

When I was shopping for this backpack, the only reviews I found appeared to be for a very different bag, so many of the comments do not apply to this backpack. I am not sure, but I suspect that this is the next generation of the CLBS-116. Some of the comments about that backpack do not apply to this one. For example, I have never had the side zippers for the butterfly feature creep open inadvertently. Someone complained that the CLBS-116 has no opening for headphones to fit through. The ZLBS-116 has no dedicated headphone opening either, which is fine with me. I'm sure I could run the wire through one of the zippered openings if I really wanted to.

Overall, I'm very happy with this backpack. I would buy it again and I recommend it.

UPDATE: I flew from Minneapolis to Orlando and back in early January, 2012. At both airports, I was able to use the butterfly feature and leave my laptop in the backpack when I put it in the scanner. That was nice. Unfortunately, I was so distracted by whether they would gripe about the laptop that I forgot to take out my liquids, so they pulled me aside and searched my suitcase. But not my backpack, so that worked. The backpack is still holding up very nicely. No wear or tear, other than some minor loose fuzzies on the outer edges where it sometimes rubs against things. But that is a cosmetic issue that can be easily remedied and it doesn't affect the structure or function of the backpack. I would still buy this backpack again and I still recommend it.

The true test of this roller was taking it to India, loaded with my laptop, documents, clothes, and shaving set. It took a beating, and it never failed. the backpack is wonderful and lightweight, and feels very comfortable, but is not suited to hikers less than about 5 foot 2 inches. On small frames, it hits the back of the neck when you look up, which can be quite uncomfortable.

The Mobex XL's look is what first drew me to the backpack. Nothing on the market looks like it, and it's sharp blue black colors, combined with its construction, has a very high tech look. If you slap some white neon on this you can probably claim its from Tron.

Anyhow, looks only gets you so far. As a day hike pack, the Mobex has a few unique attributes:

1. It opens along the back panel like a clam (or many camera-centric backpacks), and therefor you can get to any part of the bag without the usual digging. The down side for this is you need a dry patch of even ground to open the bag not always easy on a hike.

2. The Mobex uses a proprietary external framework to transfer all the weight to the hip belt. This means your hip belt should always be clipped in and tightened some people just don't like that. On the up side, the weight transfer is done well, and the bag remains stable when you load it up to around 15 lbs, pretty impressive when you think about it the bag itself only weights a little over 2 lbs.

3. This is a very light backpack, its not quite ultra light, but certainly lighter than most other 35L day pack. To achieve that 2 lb weight, Columbia used a very thin material for the Mobex. Its actually pretty strong in real world uses, but it just feels flimsy when you press against it.

4. Internal organization is a little odd because it has a clam shell opening. Nothing crazy but you'll probably need to play with your loads a little before getting the hang of it. External hooks for hiking poles are very useful. Pouch on the hip belt is a little flimsy, but useful for holding snacks and small tools. Sun glasses pouch is hard to reach but useful still. There's a bottom zipper that leads to a very tiny and flat space on the bottom of the pack, perhaps you can stash a rain cover in it, I haven't really came up with a use for that compartment yet.

5. And this is the one negative about the Mobex XL because of the way the bag is constructed, the whole backpack rests against your back snugly, and there aren't any air channels in the back panel to let the air in and the heat out. Wearing the Mobex in anything over 70 degrees is just... Nasty. Your back will be wet, the backpack's back panel will be wet, and the shoulder straps will probably be also wet...

6. The material used for the external frame is squeaky at first. Over time it becomes more quiet, but it is annoying at first.

In conclusion, the Mobex XL is an excellent 2 season backpack. As long as you don't use it when it's hot, the Mobex is one of the most comfortable and stable backpack I've used.

Boblbee Peoples Delite Executive Panther Backpack

This backpack is awesome for motorcycle riding. Not much storage space, but that's expected when you want a no drag pack. I can fit a change of clothes and some shoes, thats about it. It looks great and is comfortable and well made. The only complaint is that it scratches extremely easily. I barely rubbed my fingernail against it while tieing it and now I have two scratches. I will probably put some adhesive back reflectors over the scratches and heavy use areas like where I tie the flap down.

Its a good bag and most importantly my kid loves it. It has enough zippered compartments to keep your stuff separated. But the feet are a tad bit too short when compared to the wheels height and so the bag keeps tipping over. Just a 1/4" 1/2" tall would have done it. Its such an obvious thing to overlook!

You'd think that the purpose of a bag with wheels is to carry heavier things. I weighed my kid's bag and its almost 10lbs!...for a first grader at Challenger school. But the bag does not have a decent handle to lift it out of the car and put it on the ground. It just has one to hang it on the wall.

Also, the pulling handle does not lock. It just slides up and down. due to the lack of another handle, my kid lifts the bag up and down with the pulling handle. Its just a matter of time it'll come off. Its only been 2 weeks since we got it so we'll see how long it lasts. :)

While dragging the bag its LOUD!! I mean we have suitcases and carry-on bags with wheels to drag, but they are not as loud as these wheels.

I cannot believe its only been 6 months since I ordered this bag and its ready to be tossed into the garbage. The Wheel assembly has detached itself from the bottom. The bag is torn in the side pockets even though they are mostly empty. The zippers still work so that's a relief.

It's a cute back pack but only lasts two weeks for my first grader daughter. The back pack cannot stand still on the ground. It always fall backward to the front, so it's very easy to get dirty. After one week, the handle got bend in the middle so we cannot push it down any more. After 2 weeks, there was a big hole underneath after school....Very disappointed! Espeacially for the price that we had to pay for!

Petunia Pickle Bottom Women's Boxy Backpack Diaper Bag

I originally searched out Petunia Pickle Bottom bags for their beautiful fabrics stylish prints with a glazed finished that is not too shiny and in that area this bag did not disappoint. But I'm afraid beyond the fabric, I just wasn't impressed with the other features of the bag.

The first "strike" against the bag was the fact that the messenger flap is secured with huge strips of heavy-duty velcro instead of a magnetic snap. The velcro is very loud not something I want to hear every time I open the bag to dig out my wallet and certainly not something I want to hear if I should ever be in the presence of my infant while he's sleeping!

Second strike was that once you lift the messenger flap up, the zippered opening is quite small relative to the top of the bag. It just seems like the construction of the opening restricts access to the inside of the bag, rather than facilitating it.

Also hindering your access to what's in the bag is the fact that the lining on this particular color (Evening in Innsbruck) is black. I really dislike any utility bag with black linings, as it makes it that much harder to find what's in there. In addition to that, it's a matte, cottony fabric, and I would imagine that formula or spit-up stains would be quite conspicuous and difficult to spot-clean.

My final complaint is that none of the bottle pockets, inside or out, are insulated, and there is no separate bottle bag included.

Overall, the bag is pretty, but at this price I would expect not to have the issues mentioned above. I'm afraid I'll be returning it and will stick to my Oi Oi messenger bag for the time-being.

SUMMARY:

A beautiful, roomy, very durable bag that is really functional. However, there are some definite flaws in design that some of the cheaper brands do better on (skip hop for example). I would classify this as "maybe" worth the money bag. It really depends what is important to you. One of the biggest positives for me is that Petunia Pickle Bottom has a fantastic selection of fabrics that you can't get with any other brand. Just don't expect the bag to be flawless, because there are negative aspects of this bag.

DETAILS:

The positives:

This is a beautiful bag that is very well built. I LOVE the fabric selections Petunia has to offer! When compared to previous baby bags I have owned (include one other very high end bag) this bag has OBVIOUSLY very high quality construction. I'm sure I will have it for a long time. The outside fabric is high quality, and is the coated kind that you can easily wipe clean. The hardware is really nice looking, and clearly durable. The inside pockets are great also! There is a front portion that has pockets for diapers, wipes, and diaper cream. (It also comes with it's own hard wipes case) It also has the changing pad zipped into this front pocket, attached by velcro. The main portion of the bag is very roomy. It has a few small pockets, as well as a large detachable zipper pouch and a key ring hook. I can fit my large day planner/binder, my kindle, my phone, wallet, and plenty of snacks for my little guy, as well as a change of clothing for him! The outside end bottle pockets are great toovery roomy, so they easily fit bottles, sippy cups, or even my large water bottle with no problem!

The Negatives:

The shoulder strap has no padding!! Usually with shoulder bags (especially large ones like this that are meant to carry lots of stuff) there is a small, removable/movable shoulder pad on the strap. This bag actually hurts to carry over the shoulder. The backpack straps aren't padded either, at all!

The inside is not the same coated fabric as the outside, so will be more difficult to clean.

You have to pay an extra $20 for stroller clips. I guess at least it's a good thing that stroller clips are even available.....

-The main flap that covers the bag connects with a very large strip of velcro. It is SUPER loud to open. This is definitely not good for when you have a sleeping baby, are in a library, or anywhere else it would be nice to stay quiet. I think a magnetic closure would be so much better!

Despite the price, this is a tremendous bag and a worthwhile investment. We are currently traveling overseas with our newly adopted baby, and we needed a high-quality bag. This is our fourth child, and the fourth diaper bag that I have tried. Usually, they wear out after each baby, and I have tried everything from the economical $30-40 dollar range bag, to a $75 dollar bag. I was VERY reluctant to spend so much money when I have always held an "all bags are the same" mentality (except for the asthetic design). Still, after scouring the Internet for hours, asking friends and doing research, we decided to go ahead and spend the money. We have used the bag for several weeks and are very pleased. It's spacious, and versatile and I love the fact you can strap it on your back, hook it on the stroller, or use the shoulder strap.

We have been walking roughly 4-7 miles a day in the city where we are staying, and we can pack enough items for the day (and even a picnic for my husband and me). I will say, the bag is giant, but that's what we wanted. Also, when it initially arrived I was taken aback by the loudness of the velcro. I thought it would wake the baby up if I had to open it, or be a disruption at church or in a quiet place. It hasn't been an issue at all though. The bag may be difficult to stow away under a stroller basket (if you don't have the hooks), and our diaper wipes container does not fit any of the pockets in the front area (designated for that). Other than those minor things, there have been no other drawbacks for us! The diaper pad is soft and the front pocket area offers plenty of pockets for our mini-changing station. I like that it's a seperate compartment from the rest of the bag also. In addition, there is a hook where you can hang your keys, and a removable, smaller zip pocket on the inside. I also like the glazed finish and bright design.

For us, it was a sacrifice to spend this kind of money on a bag, which is why I didn't give it the full 5 stars (I don't think the price is necessarily justified). However, overall I would say it's been a worthwhile bag and I highly reccomend it!

All in all, this has been quite a nice backpack. I should preface this by stating that I am not current or former military, so I don't have experience with this (or any other pack) in a combat situation. In my case, I use it as a day to day pack, and for camping. It's very well constructed, and the design is quite intelligently thought out. The only flaw that I have found thus far was with one of the straps at the base of the pack that the shoulder straps attach to. One of them, quite unexpectedly, broke on me. There was ample left over strap for me to resecure it with what remained, and everything has worked well after that.

The bag arrived in new condition. Almost used up a Bic lighter singing the stray threads, but I am extremely happy with this purchase. The main compartment has plenty of access features and MOLLE is covering every inch of exterior surface.

This case is of very high quality. There is padding around the entire bag. Total, there is about one inch of padding on each side of where the notebook is stored.

The clips that allow the bag to be hung around the shoulder are metal so they will not break off in the future after long use. Although metal clips sound like a small detail, they are really very important: in the past, my notebook case had a plastic clip that broke off as I was swinging the case over my shoulders; don't let this happen to you. All the zippers on the case are made of metal as well. If the metal clips or the zippers break, the case is backed by a lifetime warranty. Thank you Targus!

The pocket that holds the notebook is very well padded. I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 with a 14.1 inch screen that fits very nicely. The case can probably hold notebooks up to 15 inches with no problems. The pocket that holds the notebook also has a small Velcro strip that goes across the notebook after it is put in. The zipper on the notebook pocket has two holes that a lock can go through.

There are 4 separate zippered compartments total. One is designed to hold papers and folders but is not large enough for a binder. One holds the notebook. The other two pockets can hold cables, a mouse, and other miscellaneous objects. I always carry my notebook, a mouse, a mouse pad, an Ethernet cable, iPod, iPod charger, iPod cable, notebook power adapter, and a USB flash drive and I still have space for more.

The price that Amazon has is a steal. Other cases of this quality will easily run $50 or more.

I have had this carrying case for about 2 months now and it has been great for me. I like the top zip for the computer, because then i don't feel like it will fall out like with some that zip all the way around. It has plenty of pockets and places for gagets and papers and things. My charger is able to fit in the case as well when i have my computer in it. The adjustable shoulder strap makes it easy for me when i'm carrying alot of other items when traveling, but the 2 hand-held handles work nicely when moving the case around too.

It's the perfect size to fit in textbooks that are quite heavy and still have room for other paper works. The number of zippers and pockets this backpack has is perfect. I really, really like this backpack, and the colors are perfect as well.

I bought this backpack to walk around my college campus. I've used a messenger bag for a long time, but it finally got to my right shoulder, and I decided it would be smart to wear a backpack again. It does its job, and it is very well priced. However, you can tell why it is priced the way it is. The material does not feel quite as nice and sturdy as other backpacks I have owned, and after less than a month of use, I have found that the material on the arm loops will occasionally scratch my wrist when I take it off. Not a big complaint, it just means I have to be careful, or maybe loosen the straps before taking it off. Overall the compartments are nice, but I wish there were more interior pockets to actually organize stuff. I end up throwing everything that's small in the very front pocket, and it takes a few moments to find what I need. One of the big selling points was that I knew I wouldn't be lugging a TON of stuff around, and I didn't want a loose and floppy giant bag with two notebooks in it. This bag could hold maybe three THICK books or two notebooks and a textbook as I have. It's not stuffed, but there isn't much extra room. Perfect size. Also, a little ingenious thing I love is the pencil holder in the left arm loop. It's very useful for one of my field classes. Overall, I wish the arm loop material was softer and there were more compartments, but it's a very good bag.

THis backpack works well and the few times I've 'tested' the alarm both my child and I have ended up with our hearts racing and our hands trembling it is literally so loud and obnoxious.

I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 because it is a tad short for his zippered binder AND the battery pack blinks red when you stuff the backpack too full. But it is an easy fix unplug, pull the batteries, wait 5 minutes and reinstall.

I am hoping this will work against 4 footed as well as 2 footed perpetrators. I have no idea if the decibel level is equally offensive to aggressive canines.
