Alley Messenger Bag

STM Medium Alley Laptop BagI specifically wanted a vertical laptop bag with fewer pockets and lightweight carry. This bag fits the need perfectly and has a fine shoulder pad. Overall design is simple and utilitarian. The sections & pockets are fewer but very large and can carry almost anything. A negative is that after 3 months of daily use, the inside laptop section divider fabric stitching has started to break and separate through normal use. This also reveals the thin polyfoam construction of the internal divider. At best, this is okay and a compromise for weight and cost, but given all the other design & assembly compromises, I wonder if this will last a year or 2 without becoming an annoyance?

I've had this bag for 4 months now. It is a nice looking bag, and also has a nice light and small design. It fits my notebook, power chords, and notebook-mouse just fine without looking stuffed or too thick. In fact, I really liked this bag until one day...

It was a rainy day. I packed my notebook as usual, stepped outside assuming all would be protected and safe. However, if you look carefully, the flap that swings over the top is not made to wrap around the edges. There is an angled gap of roughly half an inch on both sides of the flap, that provides direct access to the notebook.

Luckily for me, it was a short walk to the car in very heavy rain. when I opened my notebook bag, I discovered water on the edges of my notebook. And now, I have to always remember to stuff paper towels on the edges just in case it rains.

I use this messenger bag for my Macbook Pro 15'' and it's amazing, the space for the laptop is just great and the good thing is that it has also an special space for the charger and papers.

Has a great padded area for your 15" MacBookPro. There is a rubber covered handle for times you don't want to go to the trouble of using the padded strap. The shoulder strap can come off if you like and besides padding there is a cel pocket on it. Mostly you notice how the bag is planned out nicely for your computer and a few items like the cords, mouse etc. This is not your "tote everything and the kitchen sink" bag but then it wasn't made for that. It looks very sleek. People remark on the design and how great the bag looks. Also there is a version for 13" laptops.

Buy this for my mbp 13 ", I should buy the smallest model but the idea was to share with my wife a few times (she has a 15.6" laptop). The bag looks great and protects the laptop very well and not be as fancy as the Speck PortPack becomes safer in urban environments in my opinion.

would be good maybe one or two pockets for small items.

High Sierra Swerve Backpack

High Sierra Swerve PackI really wanted to like this bag. I got the Charcoal/Chipotle/Black one and it's pretty nice. It has lots of pockets, which could border on too many for some users. I sometimes forget which of the pockets hold my stuff. The zippers are nice, and just big enough to grasp and pull easily.

Besides all the compartments, there are lots of smaller pockets. The very first compartment can hold all your knickknacks. It has pen/pencil holders, zippered pockets, non-zippered pockets, "velcroed" pockets...you get the idea.

The second compartment has a mini pocket up top designed for an mp3 player. Above that pocket is even a port to push a headphone jack so you can listen to your tunes as you walk.

There is a tiny soft-lined pocket at the very top that I normally use to store things like my camera, phone and mp3 player i.e. things I don't want scratched. That's one of the things I like most about the bag.

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th compartments are great for books with lots of room. However the fourth compartment held a surprise laptop pocket complete with a strap and buckle. I didn't have a laptop at the time I bought this, but now that I own one, I'm really happy it's there.

The straps are nice and wide also, making it easier to carry around on your back.

The ONLY thing I do not like about this backpack is that "Vapel mesh" that they added to the back. That thing has caused trauma to my polos and t-shirts you would not believe. Every polo and T-shirt I wear with this has caused the fabric to twill BADLY. I've never had clothes damaged by a backpack like this has. And for this reason, and this reason alone, I wish I never bought this bag. No one else has mentioned this problem, so it may well be only me.

I've had numerous backpacks over the years, and this one is the best one I've ever owned. Yes, it's large. Yes, there are tons of pockets and organization. The previous reviews have listed them in detail.... what I'd like to emphasize is the extreme comfort! A couple of days ago, I ran abt a quarter of a mile in the rain with this bag, a 13" macbook (b/c there are adjustable straps on the inside of the compartment to make the bag fit the laptop instead of the other way around! Serious SCORE!), a notebook/binder, 2 super heavy college text books and various small items. Not only was I able to run, I was able to do so comfortably! It cinches down easily. The padding on the back ROCKS! The lumbar portion makes it fit easily to the contour of your back, and the suspension straps give when they need to without pulling on your shoulders and neck. The only thing I didn't love is the waist strap, but it tucks away easily behind the lumbar padding; honestly, I don't even remember it's there anymore. This bag has taken a beating over the past year, and it still looks beautiful! I'd like another colour, but I can't really justify the expense b/c this one is going to last a loooooooong time.

A seriously satisfied customer who is finally hooked on a backpack and may never feel the need to hunt for another,

**Update** After another year of constant use, the bag still looks great! No visible signs of wear or tear either. It's holding up much better than other expensive packs I've tried.

Buy High Sierra Swerve Backpack Now

I purchased this backpack for extensive general everyday and weekend use (aka my "man purse"). I carry my gym clothes and other miscellaneous gear to and from work every day which involves daily repetitive usage of the zippers and pockets. I also use it for travelling and weekend trips, sometimes with large (heavy) loads and can be VERY tough on a backpack in general. In the past I owned a North Face (Recon) pack which at almost 6 years old was dated in design though not falling apart.

This pack seems on par with the quality of the North Face pack, as far as materials go and at less than half the price. The design is PERFECT for travelling (with three *separate* large compartments, as well as lots of cool little stash spots). Perfect, nay -IDEALfor organization on a 3-day+ trip. The feel of the pack is solid, and very well made. The zippers, a crucial fail point on cheap packs, are thick-toothed and burly! The laptop pouch is great, and easy to access in line at aiport security via it's own special zipper right above the straps. It is also WELL padded, including the bottom (where it rightly has the thickest padding) The carrying handle on top is a dream padded and comfortable. I often carry my pack using that handle, so it's nice to see it becoming standard on many packs these days.

I initially wondered why the water bottle pouches (2) did not have cinch straps at the top like North Face does but in actual usage I actually prefer them like this. I tend to use the side pockets for quick-access storage, and these flush-mount pouches are superior to the loose, floppy North Face design. They are deep as well, so they hold tall bottles WAY better, as well as a bunch of random stuff when I want to quickly dump things somewhere when on the go.

The very top small storage pouch is awesome and PERFECTLY designed when I go to lunch I can dip right in for my wallet and keys without having to dig around or even move the bag at all brilliant. Perfect for "ready access" items. The front "organizer" pouch has a killer little Velcro "phone pocket" in it (this is better for storing smallish items like lip balm, coins and extra batteries rather than a phone) the rest of the organizer area is pretty "meh" like most organizers in backpacks. Things tend to just get thrown into that front pocket. I find the side (water bottle) pouches better to drop a phone into (it's easier to hear it ring too).

The shoulder straps are the best I have ever used on a daypack. The High Sierra "integrated suspension system" WORKS (I was very doubtful). This thing feels like a dream on the back. Also, a really cool feature is that the bottom straps have stopper clips on them to prevent that annoying "run through" where a strap comes out of the fastener and hangs free. How is this the first pack I have ever seen this on?? These stopper clips also have super handy "pullin' holes" where you can tighten them with one finger, another incredibly innovative design that took me by surprise.

High Sierra has hit a home run with this pack as far as I am concerned, and obviously I am very anal about my backpack performance and specs (it literally goes EVERYWHERE I go, in all conditions, with all types of loads). I appreciated the very detailed reviews of various packs when I started looking for a new one, so I hope others of like mind find this of interest!

Side note: Several reviewers expressed concern over "that extra fabric covering the two main zippers". These are rain flaps which help prevent water intrusion through the zipper. I guess only `backpack idiot savants' like me know that. Yes they can get in the way sometimes, but you'll be very glad it's there during a downpour they make a big difference.

I paid 39.00 (with free Prime shipping 2-day delivery black/black model) and boy does this seem like one hell of a deal!

UPDATE: I have discovered that the laptop pouch also doubles as an amazing beer cooler. I can easily fit 3 bottles (more possibly) in there, along with my gel icepack. It's essentially *AS GOOD* as any softsided cooler, and found it kept my drinks cold and safe all night. Sweet!!

Also, I have to re-state this, the little "stash pouch" (on top) for ready-access stuff like keys and wallet, is perhaps the best single innovation I have ever seen on a pack. NO MORE digging around in other pockets for my keys & such! At concerts, it has proven to be a godsend when I am slightly inebriated. Not to mention at work when I need to grab my keys and run, I don't even need to move my pack.

***UPDATE TEN MONTHS LATER***

The pack still looks brand new! It has been to two multi-day camping music festivals, a week in New Orleans on foot, several day hikes, 7 concerts, MANY weekend trips, MANY beach trips, and DAILY use back and forth to my office (where it is often used to courier my Amazon purchases home). If there is a known punishment that humans can inflict upon a helpless backpack, verily I have delivered it unto this High Sierra!

Is the fabric made of a futuristic, impenetrable teflon-adamantium fibre? Are the zippers forged from molten eagle talons? Was the design itself created by a 13-year-old boy with Asperger's living in the Ukraine and enhanced with gamma rays? I DON'T KNOW!!

But it is one hell of a pack!

This is the 2nd High Sierra back pack that was purchased in our home in 4 months. Upon a recommendation from his younger sister my older child, an 11th grade boy bought the exact same bag. He is not real particular about the color, the number of pockets or the style. The most important thing we looked for was durability and the large space for many books and binders.

Everything works with this bag. I picked 4 other bags at retail stores, some more expensive, some less and one brand name that he didn't want to wear but he wasn't happy with any of those choices.

This is a perfect bag.

I was a bit apprehensive when I selected the color(charcoal blue) since it didnt give the bag a fresh, new brand look. I got my bag withing a week and when I saw it, it was not at all disappointing. Overall, I like the bag very much. Too comfortable to carry al sorts of things that u need. My only concern(and a trivial one) is that my laptop has to be pushed in it with a little force. It would have been better if the laptop compartment would be a bit larger. But overall..the bag is too good. An indeed very good product to have!!

Targus Sport Rolling Backpack Case Designed for 15.4 Inch Notebooks (Black with Grey Accents)

Targus Sport Rolling Backpack Case Designed for 15.4 Inch NotebooksI have had the Targus rolling notebook backpack for almost 1 year and use it every week to carry my laptop, work papers, lunch, snacks, etc to the office. I commute by train with 10 to 15 minute walks through suburban and city streets on either end. I've taken it through rain and snow and it still looks new and keeps everything dry. It's taken a lot of abuse over this time but the wheels still roll smoothly and it is easy to get over curbs. Other reviewers mentioned inadequate laptop padding but I've found that my laptop is well padded against normal bumps and jostles. It holds quite a lot and is good for day trips. My only somewhat negative comment is that if you are petite, you will not be able to comfortably use it as a backpack when fully loaded. Larger individuals will not have a problem with the weight when using it as a backpack and pulling it is no trouble regardless of your size.

When I selected this bag, I thought that I would switch between rolling and backpack functionality regularly. However, this hasn't turned out to be the case. For a backpack, this is a very heavy bag. Also, once you stow the straps for rolling, it takes a few minutes to free them up again.

From the rolling perspective, the stowed straps can sometimes get in the way.

For it's size and weight, it doesn't have that many storage areas. I am a traveling technologist and I carry a lot of small devices and cables, in addition to my laptop. With this case, I've had to dump most of these in the one large compartment.

And very annoyingly, one of the rivets holding one of the wheels on has broken through after only 4 months of regular use.

My advice: if you primarily roll, get a rolling bag. If you primarily carry on your back, get a backpack.

Buy Targus Sport Rolling Backpack Case Designed for 15.4 Inch Notebooks (Black with Grey Accents) Now

I was looking for a reasonably-priced unit that could double as a carry-on bag for the stuff I really do not want to check as baggage. The Targus TSB700 15.4 Rolling Notebook Backpack looked like it would work. I recently used it on a week-long trip by air. It held all the laptop's gear in its many compartments. All the items I usually put in my standard carry-on more than fit in the separate center compartment. I was able to leave the carry-on bag at home. The stuffed-full bag fit in the overhead compartment and under the seat of a "real" airplane, but not overhead in the small commuter planes. During my 3-hour lay-over at the airport, I could easily drag the bag around. The backpack is comfortable to wear. (I am not young and athletic!!) The wheels roll very easily, and the shift from wheeled bag to backpack is quick and easy -like when I had to grab the airport bus to change terminals. Access to the laptop is easy, since you have to pull it out every time you go thru security. It was particularly nice to be able to pull out the laptop and its inner padded carrycase (included) when I had to check the bag at the airside at the last minute on a crowded, teeny little commuter plane.

I looked at comparable units that were advertised as weekender computer cases. Most were not backpack-convertible. All were much more expensive. I am really happy with my purchase.

My 12 year old son has tried virtually every wheeled backpack on the market. We require a large capacity (2000 cubic inches+) wheeled backpack to be able to fit his textbooks, planner, school supplies, water bottle, gym clothes, and assorted other odds and ends. When full, these result in a load too heavy to be comfortably lifted-hence the need for a wheeled pack. Said pack has to go up and down multiple flights of stairs at his school daily, in and out of 2 separate carpools, and travels on planes for trips. No back pack we have ever purchased has lasted one full school year, including this one-but, this has been the best and longest lasting of what we've tried. The Jansport Driver 8 is our second choice, but the second main compartment droops on the ground when filled, causing the fabric to rip almost imemdiately from being scraped. It is $12 more expensive than the Targus (at least when we bought it), 2 inches smaller in width, and 1 inch smaller in depth, and hence 2 pounds lighter. But like I said-for durability and capacity issues it gets second place. The targus has more options for organizing stuff and has more capacity, and it has a more durable bottom, and it's cheaper. However 1 week before school ended, the handle snapped off. Still, like I said, we've never had a backpack last a year so I still give this high marks. For the record, we have also tried Lands End and LL Bean rolling backpacks, samsonite, and a few others. I will be buying another Targus for my son for next year.

As a children's author I travel constantly to speak and visit schools. I've spent the last six months looking for a new rolling backpack to suit my needs and finally encountered this one in an airport shop. I came right home and ordered it. It's lightweight with the most fabulous telescoping handle, a variety of pockets that fit my various accessories, and plenty of room to carry copies of all of my books as well as my laptop computer. Plus, the wheels are far apart, balanced so that the pack doesn't tip forward when free-standing, and relatively quiet on tile airport floors. I'm delighted!

This bag is GREAT. I originally bought it to use as a travel bag for a vacation with my family. We were planning on taking a train into NYC and I figured it would be easy to carry with lots of space for a casual week in the city. And I was right. It is surprisingly roomy, and the outer compartment--with mesh--is perfect for clothes after they've been worn. Now that the vacation is over, I use it for my gym bag and again, it is perfect. It is easy to carry, it has an outer pocket for knick knacks (club ids, head phones, keys, etc), and the mesh is great for sweaty clothes after a workout. It is a great deal--I love it.

Icon Squad II Backpack - HI-VIZ Yellow - 3517-0195

Icon Squad II Backpack - HI-VIZ Yellow - 3517-0195I purchased this backpack because of the requirements for riding on military installations and carries a lot of stuff. I am pretty satisfied except after about two months of use as a daily rider the reflective material on the chest straps started to tear and separate from the strap. I am hoping the wife will be able to repair and reinforce this part of the pack. Overall, I like the various compartments, carrying capacity, and reflective material. So far the cons for this backpack are the high price and the issue with the straps.

Great idea, good quality, and flexible options for setup. I bought this for the daily commute on a motorcycle to and from work on a military base where requirements for Hi-Viz and reflective strips after dark limit the options. I hit the gym before work and pack clothing and toiletries only. I quickly became aware that the capacity was lacking despite the overall size. With just the basics, I had a hard time getting a pair of shoes in. I was able to get a little more capacity by removing the semi-rigid panel inside, but everything was just too tight. The helmet holder in the bottom is good for storage when not moving, but that's about it. The price was as high as my hopes were, but it just did not suit my needs. For those with similar concerns, a better option was a Hi-Viz vest and a reflective cover for a standard day pack.

Buy Icon Squad II Backpack - HI-VIZ Yellow - 3517-0195 Now

I bought this bag eight months ago, and it was awesome for about four months. Then the reflective material started ripping from the chest. At eight months, the chest straps have ripped off, the reflective material is in shreds, the foam padding under the orange material has fallen out, and the straps are detaching from the bag. Buy this product only if you are willing to buy a new one every six months.

Condor Compact Assault Pack

Condor Compact Assault PackThis pack is not meant to contend with high-adventure backpacking packs or major deployment packs. It's a value-focused, 24to 72-hour pack. However, it's built well. Notably, it appears to have quality zippers, which is one of the primary points of failure on packs/bags. The pack expands quite a bit more than I expected, and once I loosened all the compression straps I found I had plenty of room to get all of my gear in it for use as an immediate response bag, which includes a set of ACUs, a few MREs, 2 bottles of water, heavy-duty poncho, and a handful of other [less bulky] support gear (knife, lightsticks, rope, etc.)

If you're looking for something a bit larger than a typical day pack, need something that's more sturdy than what you'd grab at Walmart/Target, and don't need a HUGE pack, I think this will do nicely, and it comes in a variety of colors. However I would not trust my life to this pack (i.e., if you're deploying overseas then I'd recommend a premium-quality bag like 5.11, Blackhawk, etc.)

This IS a great bag for the money and should hold up decently.

As a Paramedic, I needed a lightweight bag that I could easily fit between the seats in the ambulance and still be able to carry items that I need daily (My personal items). This bag coupled with Eagle Creek Quarter Cubes is perfect. I can fit 5 Quarter Cubes in the main compartment w/ room to spare and still have 3 smaller compartments to utilize. Plenty of Molle for expansion too! Great bag, well constructed for the price. The bag will serve me well for quite a while. I've used the bag heavily for about a month now without any problems or wear.

Currently the load out looks like this:

Main compartment:

Quarter cube 1: Electronics(Chargers, cords, ear buds, mini surge protector w/ USB, Solar USB Charger, spare batteries)

Quarter cube 2: Hygiene (Normal stuff: Deodorant, toothbrush and paste, floss picks, Wet wipes, eye glass cleaning cloth, Q-Tips)

Quarter cube 3: Personal first aid kit (Bandaids, Medical Tape, 4x4s, latex gloves, Neosporin, OTC Pain relievers, Imodium, Spare prescription meds, alcohol preps, hand sanitizer)

Quarter cube 4: Cold weather (Gloves, toboggans for both agencies I work for, foil blanket)

Quarter cube 5: Get home survival gear (Purification tablets, lighter, matches, tender, battery operated AM/FM Radio, compass, whistle, thermometer)

Middle Compartment (Office Compartment): iPad, note pad, extra pen, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, office pouch (envelopes, stamps, check book, pen)

Small Front Compartment (Food Pocket): varies... usually 3 Clif Bars, 4 or 5 drink powder packs or instant coffee packs, hard candies, and gum.

Larger front compartment (The "Work supplies" Compartment): Stethoscope, ALS guide, badges and cards for each agency.

Plenty of room still available.

I think this bag is great especially compared to a lot of other bags. The price is amazing. I'm a k9 handler. It has room for my camel pack, I place about 6 bottles of water a bag with 6 cups of dog food, some power bars and extra scarf and I still have room. Its not bulky. The arm straps aren't very sturdy, but they work. It can be attacked to body armor with clips as well. Its an overall great day bag for the price. It came very quick as well.

I like the way the pack is set up. The compression straps are convenient. This pack has plenty of room in the separate compartments. The sizing and color of the pack were just what I expected. It was delivered as promised. There are plenty of molle attachment points. They are spaced evenly and seem to be solid. I have the 10x4 water bottle pouch attachment and it fits perfectly on either side of the pack. I plan on getting a second 10x4 to keep my cook kit in.

There are two things that I have had an issue with:

** My only real complaint The shoulder straps are attached by slide buckles at the top for adjust-ability. It took a while to get the right fit dialed in, and that's OK. The problem is that as I am hiking through the woods, the shoulder strap attachment slips. The shoulder strap is not fully padded. So when it slips you have the thin webbing pulling on your shoulder. This takes a while for this to happen. Hopefully after several more short trips, the webbing and buckle 'get trained' to stay in the original comfortable position.

** Minor issue I will sew a key keeper/mitten hook to the inside one of the compartments to keep my keys secured inside the pack.

This bag is very compact it looks bigger in the pictures.

It's quite practical for everyday use...it can hold an Ipad or small laptop, sunglasses, keys, Leatherman tool, a small first aid kit, tissues...but not much more than that.

The back straps are not comfortable, it's the pack's major flaw in my opinion.

The material is good and workmanship OK ( not as good as the Maxpedition or Blackhawk products... )

But for the cheap price I paid, I think it's a good investment.

Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with this product.

Seal Line Black Canyon Boundary 70-Litre Duffle Bag

Seal Line Black Canyon Boundary 70-Litre Duffle Bag, BlueJust purchased this bag. It seems fine, a bit thinner than i'd expect. I'll know how it works when i put it through it's paces

I have used this bag many times and recently in Honduras. Weeks traveling in a pick up truck bed with rain on and off no problem. The best thing is the back pack straps are removable for airline transport. Put them back on when you arrive at your destination. This manufacturer makes many great products but this is one of my favorites for travel around the world. Kilimanjaro, Panama and all over Honduras including the famous Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve rafting expedition from the headwaters to the coast (Class V).

Lowepro Vertex 200 AW Backpack

Lowepro Vertex 200 AW BackpackI bought this pack a couple days before my trip to Turkey. I had a 15" MacBookPro, Canon 30d, 17-55/2.8 attached, 70-200/4, 30 1.4, battery chargers/power adapters, Gorillapod SLR, filter cases, cleaning clothes and solution, etc. All the stuff photo enthusiasts take on long trips. Overall this pack performed fantastically.

Pros: Despite the previous reviewers comments, I found the Vertex 200 to be very comfortable when it was completely adjusted. But to adjust it for maximum comfort I tightened all the straps very tight. Between the waist strap, shoulder straps and the chest strap, I thought it was about as comfortable as any other way for me to carry that much gear without being a roll-bag. I like that the zippers are water-proof even though I never had to test that feature. The top handle is sturdy and comfortable when the bag is off.

It's well padded and comes with many re-configureable velcro compartment walls for the interior. Shoulder straps are also very padded and comfortable when the waist and chest strap are fastened.

Cons: The laptop shouldn't be in the front flap. I'm not sure I understand the design decision of putting one of the heavier items in the whole pack on the front flap that requires lifting to get to the contents. Then when you want to fully open the pack, you have to make sure your laptop encased in the flap has a flat surface to rest upon. You certainly can't fling it open with reckless abandon.

I agree with the previous reviewer that the laptop placement also tends to make the bag tippy. Luckily my MBP doesn't weigh very much, but I can imagine if my wife's hp 15" laptop were in there it would be more of a problem. On top of that, it levers the weight of the computer further away from the body's center of gravity when being worn.

Conclusion:

The laptop placement and the somewhat useless expandable pockets on the side are the only things preventing me from giving this bag 5 stars. It is obviously very sturdy and protective. It performed great and I walked quite far with it without pain. A considerable feat for someone with bad knees like me.

If I were making the choice again I might look at the Kata backpack more closely as they decided to put the laptop closest to the body of the wearer. But I also preferred the subdued look of this bag.

Bottom line: a sturdy well-built pack that could use some design improvements.

After obsessing over camera packs I chose the Lowepro Vertex 200 and brought it to Boston for a 5 day photoshoot. It was loaded down with a Canon Rebel body, 17-40 lens, 50mm lens, small tripod, flash, 14 inch laptop and various accessories. Total weight 25.6 lbs (according to airport scale)

For reference, I'm an avid backpacker and have tried on and purchased many high-end packs before.

What I like: It's stylish and built like a tank. (but weighs as much as one) Feel confident your gear will be safe inside. There are dozens of pockets and it is very customizable. Sealed zippers are a nice touch, usually found only on high-end technical packs.

Complaints: The accessory pockets on the front and inside are not wide enough for the manuals. The outer side pockets are not good for much either, I normally stick a water bottle in there. The laptop sleeve is positioned at the front of the bag, which makes the pack very tippy. It would be more stable tucked next to your back.

My biggest complaint is the harness. Due to excessive flight delays at Boston Logan, I wore this pack for 3 or 4 hours walked a mile or two. By the end of the day, my shoulders and back were killing me. Lowe makes some excellent packs for backpackers, which is why I was so surprised at the crappy suspension. It just hangs on your back.

Maybe I'm spoiled by my Atmos 50 by Osprey Packs. I've packed 35 pounds and it feels great. At $229, I expect more.

I bought this pack just before a 3 week trip to Patagonia. It had no problem carrying all my photo gear and laptop for the trip. Overall it's a good pack, can use a lot of improvement in the comfort area.

This pack, as all backpacks do, suffers from the "take off the pack, put it on the ground, get out your stuff" problem, but that's unavoidable with a backpack. On the other hand, the nice thing about the pack is that the quick access zipper pouches are very nice. All of your batteries, memory cards and filters are very accessible. This is about as good as it gets with a backpack.

The major drawback to this pack I found was that it's not comfortable to wear, particularly on longer hikes. Lowepro is known to make solid, comfortable packs but this is not one of them. A friend and I both had the pack and despite all the adjustment straps we couldn't get the load to distribute comfortably. In fact, in both of our cases, the shoulder straps buckled right where they met the backpack. The pack just didn't fit correctly.

I won't go in to too much of a review of the useful aspects of the 200 other than to say for my needs it's great. I love the organizational possibilities, the high level of protection and the weather proof zippers and rain cover. A lot of great attention to detail with this pack.

What I want to focus on is being 6'4" tall and needing a pack that carries well on my back. I tried the Vertex 100 and with the shoulder straps fully extended the waistband still hit me above my naval, by several inches! All I needed was a pair of PeeWee Herman pants and I'm ready to go cover a golf tournament!

The added two inches in length of the 200 made all the difference. The 300 would probably be perfect for fit but the 200 is better for travel as a carry on piece and also to hold my current photo kit. The shoulder straps are well padded and comfortable as is the waist belt. There is a sternum strap to hold the should straps in place and when properly adjusted the pounds disappear as I carry it.

One other feature I really like is the tripod carrying possibilities. The best is down the middle in the back but you can also carry it on either side to maintain easier access to the main compartments but depending on your tripod this may make the load off balanced too much.

From a tall guy, I love this pack.

1. First of all, it must be clearly stated that photo backpack reviews are going to be highly subjective... similar to whether or not one brand of shoes fit for one person etc...

2. With the above being said, I've tried many photo backpacks (Tamrac Expedition, ALL of the other Lowepro backpacks); the Vertex series is the best overall compromise of them all. And it is a compromise. There is no perfect photo backpack. Ultimately, it comes down to for what purpose one is going to need the backpack for, the amount of gear they need to carry etc... With that being said, most serious photographer will have several camera bags etc...

3. What I like about this backpack is:

a. It is well made, just like all of the Lowepro product (they are the overall best camera bag company)

b. The harness is the best of the bunch; absolutely no question about it. Furthermore, the harness system has all of the various straps to fine tune the fit, which is important, the more you carry.

c. The bag has enough of the little various pockets that a photographer will require.

d. The cpu slot; not essential to me but ok. I would agree with the other reviewers in that if a good quality cpu slot is important, having it out front may be a modest problem. But if you're going to use it to mainly carry your cpu during basic travel; it should be good enough. I'm assuming that most photographers who are going to be hiking through the woods aren't going to be lugging along a laptop...

e. The inside has enough dividers to do whatever you want to do with it. I use about 60% of it for my camera gear and 40% for my hiking gear (jacket, food etc...).

4. Cons? As most others have mentioned--> size--> ie bulk, yea--> it looks like a photo backpack because it is. ie it looks like you're walking around with a box on your back, but thankfully it doesn't feel like it. And since it's well made--> yea, there is some heft to it.

5. Tangent: my fantasy photo backpack would be to have a hybrid backpack, that actually works and fits like this pack. Tamrac and Lowepro do make such hybrid packs, but do not be fooled; it's not the best of both worlds, but rather failed attempt... Until that day happens when the perfect photo backpack comes along--> get the Vertex Series without hesitation.

Targus Rolling Notebook Backpack (TSB700-DISC)

Targus Rolling Notebook BackpackOrdered this bag after a recommendation from a friend. I use this bag every day, and I have it loaded with enough supplies so that it qualifies for a rolling office. It gets heavy so having the wheels makes it easy on the back. The stitching also seems to be really durable. I use the handle all the time to lift the pack, and I haven't noticed any weak seams yet! My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that I'm no longer able to 'piggyback' an overnight bag on top of this bag!

As a rolling bag this bag has been useful and achieved its purpose. But I wanted to use it as a backpack as well but it's way too heavy for that, my back hurts. I only use it as backpack in emergency situations where I cant stroll it.

The Backpack only do not protec the notebook well. You need to use the internal bag that is shipped included in the product. If you open both sides of the main compartment zipper, all the front bag goes down.Have good rollers and a good handle.

The bag was received with a broken zipper. I returned the bag per instructions from Technology Galaxy on March 23, they were to receive it on the 25th and ship a replacement. It's April 7th and I'm still waiting.
