I got this backpack for my daughter who's in first grade. it is a bit big for a first grader but she loves the brat dolls. there was a ton of space both on the sides as well as 2 separate zip compartments. there was even a separate opening for her pencils and the bag is very durable.

JanSport Sliver Shoulder Pack

Wow! My 10 year old son begged for a sling backpack for the new school year. After looking at all the packs available on Amazon, I finally settled on this one. I was worried this would be huge, and more backpack then what he needed. But, the other options were either cheap quality, too small, or a tear shaped that I was worried wouldn't fit his binders.

A little hesitant that this might be too big for him, and there were no reviews, I ordered it anyway. My heart sank when I opened the box, though. The backpack that looked too big, now in person, looked way too narrow. But, my son was so excited to try it out.

I opened up the pockets, and was relieved. It is deceivingly larger than what it looks like. It easily fit his two 1" binders and some folders in the main compartment, and a lightweight sweatshirt in the secondary compartment. The strap is very comfortable and distributes the weight over his back very well. I love how much the strap adjusts. It fits me comfortably and doesn't feel disproportional, and adjusts down perfectly to his needs and still looks great on his back.

I doubt there will be any issues with this, and even if there is, JanSport offers a lifetime warranty on their items. I will update in a few months, but so far I think I hit the jackpot with this one :)

Eberlestock X2 Pack

This pack is my 6th hunting pack, I usually update every 3 to 5 years. This one is my latest and my favorite up to now. My last one was a Kelty Arrowhead 2000 which was a frame-less pack. I liked it so much it was used the most, until now. The X2 is now my go to pack with the ability to pack out more meat then the Kelty could. The X2 employes an aluminum frame and a strap system which allows it to carry a meat bag with ease, Two 100oz hydration bags, lots of lash points for added pouches from Eberlestock or any Molle pouches. The rock camo is nice for my area, just wish it had a built in rain cover like my Kelty does. The frame gets noisy so you my want to apply tape to the metal frame. The pockets have a short clip for hooking the hydration bags but it's to long to work right. I had to fashion a short loop out of para-cord to correct this downfall. All in all a great design which I wish I had years ago, would have made hauling deer out easier..You can even attach a rifle scabbard or a bow holder to it. The main bag is rated at 1800 to 2000ci but it could hold way more then my Kelty ever could. Just ad the optional outside attached pockets to increase storage. The material is pretty strong and quiet. So far this day pack worked well on my three night trip using ultra lite gear. Best hunting pack yet..4 stars for the lack of built in rain cover and the not well thought out water bag holders and the noisy frame..

Timbuk2 OCD Packing Folder (Algae Green/Sorbet Green, Medium)

Works just as expected and is a quality made product as I've come to expect from timbuk2. I fit a hoody and three or four t shirts for quick trips (medium sized)

This is a very slim shirt folder, just large enough for 1 pair of pants and 1 button up shirt. If you need to pack more than go with something larger. The construction is top notch and will last a lifetime, both Eagle Creek and Sea to Summit make similar products but I got this because it was the least expensive. Although this does not use ultralite Silnylon, the fabric is semi-rigid which is good for keeping your clothes wrinkle free. The zipped sides will not allow you to 'expand' like other brands with folded sides however the zipped sides give this folder more structure. Overall I'm very happy with it, it will easily slip into a messenger bag laptop sleeve designed for 15" laptops. Color is nice too, different than the standard black.

Targus Sport Rolling Backpack Case Designed for 15.4 Inch Notebooks (Black with Grey Accents)

I have had the Targus rolling notebook backpack for almost 1 year and use it every week to carry my laptop, work papers, lunch, snacks, etc to the office. I commute by train with 10 to 15 minute walks through suburban and city streets on either end. I've taken it through rain and snow and it still looks new and keeps everything dry. It's taken a lot of abuse over this time but the wheels still roll smoothly and it is easy to get over curbs. Other reviewers mentioned inadequate laptop padding but I've found that my laptop is well padded against normal bumps and jostles. It holds quite a lot and is good for day trips. My only somewhat negative comment is that if you are petite, you will not be able to comfortably use it as a backpack when fully loaded. Larger individuals will not have a problem with the weight when using it as a backpack and pulling it is no trouble regardless of your size.

When I selected this bag, I thought that I would switch between rolling and backpack functionality regularly. However, this hasn't turned out to be the case. For a backpack, this is a very heavy bag. Also, once you stow the straps for rolling, it takes a few minutes to free them up again.

From the rolling perspective, the stowed straps can sometimes get in the way.

For it's size and weight, it doesn't have that many storage areas. I am a traveling technologist and I carry a lot of small devices and cables, in addition to my laptop. With this case, I've had to dump most of these in the one large compartment.

And very annoyingly, one of the rivets holding one of the wheels on has broken through after only 4 months of regular use.

My advice: if you primarily roll, get a rolling bag. If you primarily carry on your back, get a backpack.

I was looking for a reasonably-priced unit that could double as a carry-on bag for the stuff I really do not want to check as baggage. The Targus TSB700 15.4 Rolling Notebook Backpack looked like it would work. I recently used it on a week-long trip by air. It held all the laptop's gear in its many compartments. All the items I usually put in my standard carry-on more than fit in the separate center compartment. I was able to leave the carry-on bag at home. The stuffed-full bag fit in the overhead compartment and under the seat of a "real" airplane, but not overhead in the small commuter planes. During my 3-hour lay-over at the airport, I could easily drag the bag around. The backpack is comfortable to wear. (I am not young and athletic!!) The wheels roll very easily, and the shift from wheeled bag to backpack is quick and easy -like when I had to grab the airport bus to change terminals. Access to the laptop is easy, since you have to pull it out every time you go thru security. It was particularly nice to be able to pull out the laptop and its inner padded carrycase (included) when I had to check the bag at the airside at the last minute on a crowded, teeny little commuter plane.

I looked at comparable units that were advertised as weekender computer cases. Most were not backpack-convertible. All were much more expensive. I am really happy with my purchase.

My 12 year old son has tried virtually every wheeled backpack on the market. We require a large capacity (2000 cubic inches+) wheeled backpack to be able to fit his textbooks, planner, school supplies, water bottle, gym clothes, and assorted other odds and ends. When full, these result in a load too heavy to be comfortably lifted-hence the need for a wheeled pack. Said pack has to go up and down multiple flights of stairs at his school daily, in and out of 2 separate carpools, and travels on planes for trips. No back pack we have ever purchased has lasted one full school year, including this one-but, this has been the best and longest lasting of what we've tried. The Jansport Driver 8 is our second choice, but the second main compartment droops on the ground when filled, causing the fabric to rip almost imemdiately from being scraped. It is $12 more expensive than the Targus (at least when we bought it), 2 inches smaller in width, and 1 inch smaller in depth, and hence 2 pounds lighter. But like I said-for durability and capacity issues it gets second place. The targus has more options for organizing stuff and has more capacity, and it has a more durable bottom, and it's cheaper. However 1 week before school ended, the handle snapped off. Still, like I said, we've never had a backpack last a year so I still give this high marks. For the record, we have also tried Lands End and LL Bean rolling backpacks, samsonite, and a few others. I will be buying another Targus for my son for next year.

As a children's author I travel constantly to speak and visit schools. For the price this is a good laptop sleeve. It is pretty and has a little padding for moderate if not fantastic protection. My only complaint about this one is that one of the handles seemed weakly attached and started to come apart from the case. It was an easy fix to get out the sewing machine and secure the seams though so it didn't bother me very much.

Advanced Mountaineering Pack

I have this for my bug out bag and it holds a ton. I have at least 60 pounds of gear and I have had no problems with any of the clips, straps, or sewn attachments. The beauty of the bag is that the main compartment is accessable from the front (the panel opposite you back when wearing the pack) instead of only from the top. This allows you to get at gear at the bottom of the pack without digging out the rest. This panel is supported by velcro and zippers and straps. Molle is all over this pack. Two large side compartments made to be compatable with hydration systems. These pockets are large enough for my 3L Geigerrig. Lots of connection points and very versatile.

I bought this pack about 3 and a half weeks ago and have hiked with it for 3 weekends in a row. No problems with straps or fasteners. I'm carrying about 35 lbs and have had no issues of any kind with the pack. It is capable of holding a ton of stuff inside the rucksack and it's covered with PALS webbing so all of the MOLLE pouches out there can be attached. It is rigged with various methods to adjust it's fit: web attachments upper back area between shoulder harness and ruck; top of shoulder straps to top of ruck; bottom of shoulder straps to lower ruck; and of course the belt strap.

One minor issue is with the water bladder pockets on either side of the ruck. The pockets are very big, work fine, however if you don't pack out carefully inside the ruck and you have pouches attached on the outside of the pockets, the pockets get pinched between the stuff inside and the pouches full of stuff outside making it difficult to push a bladder into the pocket. It's a design issue. They would have been better off running the PALS webbing all the way up the sides and letting the owners attach their own canteen or bladder bags to the outside of the pack.

I definitely recommend this pack. It is a monster and very versatile.

This backpack was a bust--the shoulder straps broke a week after it was purchased. It wasn't even full. My son tried it on to see how it would feel and was walking around the house, and the strap broke right off. The other shoulder strap was on the verge of breaking. A backpack doesn't do any good unless you can carry it on your back, and this one failed. Big time. This was a gift, and I don't know if I will replace it with the same brand or go for something totally different.

Definitely a good pack for the money. It fits a ton of stuff. Fits like a modern pack and has plenty of padding. I like to use my packs to 'train' with, so I like to pack them heavy. I would NOT go on a long, multiday hike with a lot of gear in this pack. It isn't cheap by any means, but just doesn't "feel" heavy duty. IF you are a pack-mule like me, this isn't the one, but its fun for an additional pack. It's a big pack, and the modern fit it doesn't look like you are advancing on a position; i.e. doesn't look like a webbed-out military pack...even though it sort of is.

Columbia Sportswear Unisex Adult Mobex Xl Backpack

the backpack is wonderful and lightweight, and feels very comfortable, but is not suited to hikers less than about 5 foot 2 inches. On small frames, it hits the back of the neck when you look up, which can be quite uncomfortable.

The Mobex XL's look is what first drew me to the backpack. Nothing on the market looks like it, and it's sharp blue black colors, combined with its construction, has a very high tech look. If you slap some white neon on this you can probably claim its from Tron.

Anyhow, looks only gets you so far. As a day hike pack, the Mobex has a few unique attributes:

1. It opens along the back panel like a clam (or many camera-centric backpacks), and therefor you can get to any part of the bag without the usual digging. The down side for this is you need a dry patch of even ground to open the bag not always easy on a hike.

2. The Mobex uses a proprietary external framework to transfer all the weight to the hip belt. This means your hip belt should always be clipped in and tightened some people just don't like that. On the up side, the weight transfer is done well, and the bag remains stable when you load it up to around 15 lbs, pretty impressive when you think about it the bag itself only weights a little over 2 lbs.

3. This is a very light backpack, its not quite ultra light, but certainly lighter than most other 35L day pack. To achieve that 2 lb weight, Columbia used a very thin material for the Mobex. Its actually pretty strong in real world uses, but it just feels flimsy when you press against it.

4. Internal organization is a little odd because it has a clam shell opening. Nothing crazy but you'll probably need to play with your loads a little before getting the hang of it. External hooks for hiking poles are very useful. Pouch on the hip belt is a little flimsy, but useful for holding snacks and small tools. Sun glasses pouch is hard to reach but useful still. There's a bottom zipper that leads to a very tiny and flat space on the bottom of the pack, perhaps you can stash a rain cover in it, I haven't really came up with a use for that compartment yet.

5. And this is the one negative about the Mobex XL because of the way the bag is constructed, the whole backpack rests against your back snugly, and there aren't any air channels in the back panel to let the air in and the heat out. Wearing the Mobex in anything over 70 degrees is just... Nasty. Your back will be wet, the backpack's back panel will be wet, and the shoulder straps will probably be also wet...

6. The material used for the external frame is squeaky at first. Over time it becomes more quiet, but it is annoying at first.

In conclusion, the Mobex XL is an excellent 2 season backpack. As long as you don't use it when it's hot, the Mobex is one of the most comfortable and stable backpack I've used.

Token Fulton Mini Bag

I had another bag similarly sized to hold a notepad, tablet, phone, wallet, etc... and it ended up falling apart. This was a replacement for that and I love it. The small strap on the top seemed odd initially but turns out to be super useful and the shoulder strap is long, solid and works great. The size is perfect for a moleskin notebook & 7" tablet.

I'm really happy w/ this bag. Highly recommended.

There are fancy, professional notebook carriers, and there is the functional rugged kind that you know can take a licking and keep on ticking. This is the later kind that can also sub as the former. Yes, I realize there are designer pretty professional looking and quality products too, that men and women have been using for years to travel across the world and back, lugging to their offices. A lot of those can lose some functionality. Some of those designer wares are very nice I am sure, but I actually own a Targus that I dragged around Tokyo with me and to training in Wisconsin and found it worthwhile. Compared to this, my old Targus a little dated though. Kind of difficult to get my aging dell in and out of at TSA checkpoints, and not as comfortable against my back. My older backpack also limits me in terms of size on the notebook although it accepted my oversized battery just fine.

Here's the thing with this backpack, it's rugged. This isn't just an item I would feel comfortable taking with me on a trip to an airport and then a hotel. I could throw this thing in the back of a van, pick-up or car and head out camping and feel comfortable that my items, notebook, tablets, mp3 player, mobile phone, and heck even a place for my water-bottle would be fine. Deluxe is an understatement. This has compartments, mesh pockets, zippers, and padded areas for almost everything here. I am kind of the same way with my backpacks as I am with my purses. I do not want a place to throw everything into a giant hole to dig through it later. I want, I need compartments for everything. This has a place for everything! and more padding than I have ever seen in a backpack.

Let's be honest here, I am a sizable lady, and this fits me well. I could, and have, filled this up and had it sit comfortably on my shoulders with the weight properly distributed. I am, obviously, not going to run a marathon in this thing, but I have lugged it around over, shall we say, not flat surfaces and found it comfortable. And when I said it has a spot for your tablet, I am not kidding. It has a padded sleeve to stick an e-reader or tablet separate from the notebook protected area. There are spots for pens, credit/business cards; it says you can use the zippered pocket for water bottles but smaller ones fit in the mesh pouches too. It's designed really well. With my older Targus bag, you could get a lot into it but good luck getting it out, especially on a plane after you pull it from under the seat and are trying to maneuver around the coach sized area to get a book out or that magazine you crammed in there somehow but is now stuck underneath your purse you had force down in there.

I really love this bag.

There are a couple of cautions though I have to mention. This is a sizable backpack, has to be to get those 17inch notebooks in there, but you have to be more cautious about not overfilling it if you are going to take it on a plane and want to stick it under a seat. It has a nice slimmer top design so if you are paying attention at all, you should be able to manage. The other issue is that the more TSA friendly notebook compartment lacks the Velcro strap I am used to, so if you whip this thing around, silly I know, with it unzipped and open, it's coming out same with anything else you put in the non-zippered compartments, or Velcro pouches.

Lastly, the bottom of the backpack is water-resistant, not your standard affair in many backpacks and fairly strong against rips so far. The zippers feel hefty and aren't hard to work or feel likely to snag or get stuck. It's made in China, but it is clearly a quality product. The anti-shock pad at the bottom, it's labeled, feels pretty thick and likely to absorb some impact, say if you drop it suddenly or set it down too quickly. You can also fold it upward if you want to or need to make your backpack thinner.

Finally for business purposes, it looks nice, has a location to hold your files to keep them from getting folded or otherwise damaged and pretty much unisex with is all black design. Whether you are traveling for business or just jamming your car for a family/friend trip, this would make life just a little easier for traveling and protecting those electronics you spent so much buying so don't skimp on padding.

This is a huge bag that is well constructed. The bottom is a leather material and allows the bag to stand up by itself (more or less). The stitching appears to be good quality and pockets are plentiful.

Unfortunately, I had to return it since my Asus Republic of Gamers series 17.3" G74SX-XN1 "notebook" doesn't fit in the padded laptop area. It's about an inch too narrow to account for the additional heat exchanger the Asus notebook has sticking out of it's back. Which is too bad, because i really like the look and feel of this bag.

Going to try the Targus Drifter II to see if it fits in there...

I got the Targus Demolition Backpack to replace my old one, and what a great difference it makes. It's the perfect everyday backpack for a geek who can't leave home without a few gadgets. Yes, I tried to use only one device, but I can't help myself, I must have my stuff, because I use each for different tasks.

It has plenty of pockets and dedicated compartments for organizing one's value possessions. No more rummage into a backpack at the most inconvenient times.

The two front compartments in this backpack are a great plus. One is scratch-resistant and padded to facilitate the pulling or storage of a Smartphone and/or a Kindle, or any other gadget one needs handy. And the other, comes with slots to put in an ID and debit cards for secure storage, but quickly access.

So in the end, I'm carrying inside of it my Smartphone, my netbook, my Targus slim lap desk, an iPad inside an iMainGo XP portable speaker case, a mouse, a portable rechargeable battery pack, USB flash drives, and if I'm traveling with my kid, her iPad will join all of these gadgets. And of course, the corresponding chargers for every device.

The Targus Demolition Backpack will work great as a traveling bag too. When the inner lower panel is set, makes it more roomy, and it can accommodate clothes for a weekend and some personal toiletries. I'm taking it with me the next time I travel to New York to visit my family. It might be the only bag I ever need.

Having two water bottles holders is awesome, because when I travel with my daughter, I must hold her bottle too. By the way, behinds the holders, there is a zippered compartment to storage an small umbrella or anything else.

Besides all of the above, another of my favorite feature is the padded shoulder straps that joined with the waist buckles facilitates carrying any load one puts inside.

I would send it back, but I'm in afghanistan. It started out looking like a great pack, but once I started wearing it everyday, it disintegrated. Almost all the zipper tabs have broken off, the straps are ripping from the bag. Al lI had in it was my lap top and and extra shirt. If they sent me a new one, I would send this one back. I am getting ready to order a different one if I don't hear back form these guys...

I thought this bag was alright when I got it (I really like the side pockets, they are massive) but I have only been using it for about a month and already the seams are ripping at both shoulder straps and the carrying handle. I am not overloading it at all and carried everything I am carrying now plus an extra laptop and all its accessories in another laptop backpack for the last four years. Fits my 15'' Macbook Pro exactly. Not too bulky, but enough padding that I feel good about having it next to other stuff in my bag. The waterproof zip-locks are sturdy (plus the extra protection of the fold over velcro) and I bet you could drop the whole thing in the bath and you'd have no problem. This is really important to me because my commute has outdoor parts (and I'm from Seattle), and I also do outdoor work that requires me to both have my computer and be out camping for weeks at a time. This is the perfect solution for protecting my investment.

The handle on the top is really handy too, in case I am taking my computer somewhere without my whole backpackI can carry it safely without clutching it to my chest like you do with a traditional laptop sleeve. Also it's red, which is a big plus since red is so awesome.

Using this with a 2012 Macbook Pro Retina 15" the long dimension fits very well. Lots of extra room on the short edge, I guess for laptops with a taller screen. With that extra space, I'm able to fit the laptop in the padded internal sleeve, as well as an iPad in its own padded case sitting on top. I like the double zip seals, very confidence-inspiring and there's a clear tactile feel and sound as they zip all the way closed. The velcro flap seal might only slow down a drenching a tiny bit, but it could help protect the zips from accidentally unzipping. I like that the interior padded sleeve is removable, as it's often unnecessary (for instance, with a bag that already has a padded sleeve). Without the padding, the waterproof sleeve is quite minimal in bulk. Mine weighed in at 5oz for the outer sleeve alone, 2oz for the padding. The color is a little more muted than in the photos here. I'd like to see some natural earth tones as well, just as an aside.

Like others, I use this for bike commuting. I strap it with bungies over the top of my Old Man Mountain Cold Spring front rack, as my panniers are a bit small for the laptop. The A-Q case fits my 12.5" thinkpad x220 perfectly. I have the TP in a case logic neoprene case (the sleeve accompanying the A-Q is mediocre and I don't use it, but that didn't downgrade my five-star review because I didn't buy this for the sleeve) and the whole thing then fits perfectly. Not too snugly, but not loose. Very good seal at top, kind of like an industrial strength zip-loc. The carrying strap is handy. Very good piece of gear.

I was trying to find this bag for my sister and was surprised there were no other reviews on it--so I'll write as detailed of one as I can!

I have owned this diaper bag (and used it daily!) for about 10 months now and it truly looks as good as new yet. It's the 5th diaper bag I've owned and by far my favorite. I absolutely LOVE all the pockets on the outside...most of my others have pockets on the inside, and 1-2 zippered pockets on the outside along with some bottle pockets on the sides, but I've never been able to make that work. If you stuff the pockets on the inside, there really isn't any room for anything in the main compartment of the bag, yet most of the pockets aren't big enough to hold everything I want them to inside. This bag, however, has TEN pockets on the outside, which is awesome when you're holding a crying baby and trying to find/reach what you're looking for. I keep things like my nursing cover, burp cloths, Kleenix, wipes, snack bars (for my preschooler), etc. in those outside pockets---things you want handy the instant the baby spits up all over! I don't use the bottle holders on the sides for bottles, though they're much roomier than most...they're so big, actually, that they're great for rash cream, nose bulbs, medicine, etc. I cloth diaper and this leaves plenty of room inside the main compartment for our diapers, wetbags, etc.

Some basic info about the bag: Their website says it measures 22x14x4.5. I don't get that when I measure it--more like 17x14x4.5. It weighs about 2.4 lbs empty, which seems pretty standard. It's really heavy-duty canvas-like fabric; like I said--ours still looks brand new.

The Pockets: When you look at the pic, ALL of those pockets run from where you can see the trim to basically the bottom of the bag...so those two on top are DEEP pockets, then they obviously get more shallow as you go down. They're all pretty flat, but I've stuffed them with quite a bit and it's never caused the bag to tip over. The middle line of pockets is actually one big pocket all the way across that can be closed in the middle with velcro...so if you have something wider/need to stuff it more, there's plenty of room there.

There is also a large (basically the size of the bag) pocket on the back that again, has a small velcro closure at the top...that's where I keep the (included) changing pad and an extra receiving blanket. There are also 6 pockets inside the bag with elastic openings.

There is a strap system on the back designed to hold the diaper bag tight to a stroller so that you aren't banging into it while you push your stroller...though I never take the time to use them, the strap is long enough that I always just throw it over the handle and go.

It does have metal stops on the bottom corners to keep the bottom of the bag from sitting directly on the ground.

The strap is adjustable via a belt-like buckle system...I'm 6'0" and I carry it on my shoulder on the 2nd-to-last setting. It doesn't have a separate pad on it but it's a thicker strap with rounded edges that "sticks" pretty well to your clothing, and doesn't feel uncomfortable at all like a cheap shoulder strap. I have never felt like it's dug into my shoulder at all, even fully loaded.

The only negative I can come up with is I wish the zipper in the middle was a tad bit more durable feeling/smoother. I've definitely had worse, and it's held up really well to 10 months of use, with no signs of weakening, so it's really just me being super picky.

Hope this helps someone! I can't believe these aren't more popular, though I do know they are pretty hard to find. I just happened to find this one on sale at a local cloth diaper store where I had some credit I needed to use up! Don't hesitate to buy this bag! (especially if you're an organization freak like I am, lol)

Oh--and hubby loves it too because it doesn't look girly and he always knows where to find stuff in it!
