Sandpiper of California Bugout Backpack
Overall for size, price and versatility it can't be beat. But if your looking for something more durable, or stronger look maybe to the ACU version or for a different pack all together.I was issued this bag for a recent deployment. Day one of being on the ground, the shoulder strap's stitching came completely unraveled. At the time, I had a uniform and a pair of boots in the bag. Nothing else. I had to make due by knotting the strap so I could use the backpack. It's sad that my knot was actually stronger than the factory stitching for a bag that's supposed to be used in the field carrying MUCH HEAVIER items than a uniform and a pair of boots.
I emailed SOC customer service a month ago and have yet to receive anything back from them in response...not even an automated email saying they've received my inquiry and will get back to me.
Shoddy product and sub-par customer service. They should be ashamed of themselves for putting this crap into the hands of troops deploying.

Versatile bag for weekend trips and/or as a bug-out bag, etc...I have used it for a number of different purposes and find it to be a good all-around pack. Shopping around can save you money on this pack!
Pros:
Strong zippers with quiet zipper pulls.
Rugged 600 denier (inside-coated) cordura.
Clothing straps inside main compartment for use as a clothing bag.
Duffel handle on top and side/ optional shoulder strap attachment plastic D-rings.
(2) front zippered compartments with multiple organizational pouches inside.
Chest straps
compression straps on side.
Extension zipper for an additional 4" more space for main compartment if needed.
Waist Belt with optional hideaway pouch.
Shoulder straps can be tucked away and zippered shut if using as duffel
Reasonably priced
comfortable with light loads
removable inside metal stays
Cons:
Shoulder adjustment straps would be nice.
Probably not mil. spec.
minimal padding on waist belt (for light loads this is a plus, as it tucks away and keeps it less bulky)

This review is for the BLACK version of the bag...I've had two of these bags and, on each one, the nylon has failed right where the top strap is sewn onto the bag. I just noticed the failure in the second bag about a week ago and was hoping that it would last just a couple of more months. But it has progressed to the point where I think I will need to replace it soon. I think that the most I have in the bag is 15 pounds, but apparently that is too much for it.
Now, this bag does hold quite a bit of stuff, so if you can get one that doesn't tear, you should be all set.
I don't know if the construction standards are different between the black and other versions, but I will not be purchasing one of these bags again.

I bought this backpack as a bugout bag. Coincidentally, it arrived just before I went on a Venturing (Boy Scouts) backpacking campout so I used my new backpack. This bag was able to hold everything with ease and was even comfortable on my back. All of this gear fit in the bag (with exception of the air mat, which I strapped to the outside): 0 degree bag, backpacking tent, self inflating air mat, 4 freeze dried meals and a backpacker's coffee brewer pouch, 4 cup stainless pot for cooking in, 1 backpack stove and 1 can of fuel, camping pillow, 1 set rain gear, 1 field jacket liner (I wear under the rain gear to keep me plenty warm), 1 book, 2 Pr socks, First aid kit, Katadyn mini, 100 Ft paracord, 1 bottle bug spray, 1 bottle sub screen, 3 ltr water bladder, backpacker's towel, filled the very front pocket with accessories like lighter, multi tool, water purify pills, knife sharpener, car keys, cell phone, etc.The only thing I'm not really crazy about was the placement of the water bladder pouch under the shoulder straps. I thought for sure it would cause my bladder to pop being pressed between the weight of the pack and my back, but nope it even did that well. There is absolutely nothing flimsy about this pack. I love it!

Osprey Packs Escapist 30 Backpack
This is a very comfortable pack. The shoulder straps are well padded without being too bulky. The ventilated straps seem like a good idea.
The embossed top pocket gets a lot of use, whether it?s to hold my Garmin 500 before a ride, compact camera, or sunglasses. The material is supposed to be safe for these surfaces.
The area zip divider separates stinky and dirty items.
For a smaller pack, the fact that it has an adjustable yoke is a big bonus. Added with the two torso sizes, it?s easy to achieve a very comfortable fit.
The whistle chest strap buckle is a thoughtful feature.
Cons:
One area where the pack could be improved are the side pocket compression straps. They don?t really do the job well of holding anything down. They are too low and thus don?t wrap around the neck of an MSR fuel bottle (maybe the really small one) or water bottle. They will bounce out.
The chest pocket will hold an iphone (maybe not the taller 5) or other similar sized smart phone as long as there is no protective jacket. If you use one, it will not fit. It does however work well for holding a gel flask.
Elastic cord on face would also be great for attaching a lightweight jacket or long sleeve jersey when temps rise. The netting isn?t very large and doesn?t expand enough.
Hip pockets could be a little bigger. Maybe they are on the large, but mine (s/m) basically hold a small headlamp, my mini Griptilian knife, emergency fire starter and gel pack. Not being big enough to fit a small camera or GPS (eTrex size) is my main gripe.
Other than that, I really enjoy using this pack. A large chunk of its use is as a commuter pack. But I also love it just as much on day hikes or overnight trips. The tool organization pouch with pump sleeve is great, and for those with a Raptor series pack, is the same setup. My purpose for buying this pack was for some overnight bike packing and I really look forward to testing it out in that situation.
I would agree with the other reviewer that the ventilation does not breathe as much as you would like to believe. This doesn't bother me as much as it's designed as (for bikepacking) and used mostly in cycling situations and you're going to sweat anyway. If you want a day hiking bag, there are plenty of others that are geared more towards that application.I purchased this backpack for use during day hikes as well as for use as a two or three day pack. Overall this is a great backpack. The main compartment can be separated into an upper and lower compartment or the divider can be unzipped to provide a single large compartment. The shoulder straps are comfortable and easy to adjust. The same goes for the waist straps. I had no problem carrying it around for a three hour hike and felt I could walk all day with it wothout noticing the weight. I ended up returning it for two reasons.
First there is nowhere to attach additional items, such as a sleeping bag, on the outside of the pack. Some additional loops or straps on the top and/or bottom would have been great.
Secondly, the mesh and padding that go against your back are supposed to allow air flow to keep you cool. What I found is that with the pack adjusted snugly the sides press against your back and do not allow any air to enter or exit. After 10 minutes of hiking on a cool day (10 degrees celcius) my back was soaked with sweat while the rest of my body was comfortably cool.
Pros:
Main compartment can be separated into an upper and lower compartment or left as a single large compartment.
quite rugged and durable construction.
Easy to organize and access equipment. Lots of storage space.
Comes with it's own rain cover.
Very comfortable to wear, weight wise, for long hikes.
Pockets on the shoulder (1)and waist straps(2) are handy to carry small items such as a cell phone, compass, flashlight, whistle etc.
Has lots of adjustments to allow for a great fit.
Cons:
Lack of additional straps or loops to attach external items (sleeping bag etc.).
Poor ventilation for your back.
The pockets on waist strap are easy to access but difficult to zip closed while wearing the pack.
The mesh on the back has no way to gain access behind it so it will be difficult to remove any dirt or junk that may get in there.
Overall:
This is a good pack. If you do not need to attach additional items on the outside or if you do not overheat easily, as I do, then this pack is definitely worth checking out. I would love to have kept the pack myself but the two issues mentioned above were just a deal breaker for me.

Dabbawalla Backpack
The shoulder strap are very badly design. The bag has 2 holes on each side of the bag, they are placed closer to the bottom of the bag to allow the straps loosely go through from inside of the bag.
This might be great in theory, but in practice when a child uses it, the bag moves from side to side and it makes the strap longer or shorter each time the bag move a little.( It is very uncomfortable for the child)
Also the 2 holes at the bottom of the bag are so big that if you happen to place a fork or spoon inside the bagDabbawalla Lunch Bag, Holy Cow, it will slip though the holes and when the child need to use it, it won't be there. The product looks nice and I am happy that it is PVC free. However the product was stated to have dimensions of 14 x 14 x 6. Because of this I had expected it to be big enough to easily hold a standard 8 1/2" x 11" notebook even with the rounding that occurs at the top of most backpacks. I am very disappointed that a standard notebook barely fits and in some cases the backpack may cause the corners to bend. It might just be functional for its intended use as a backpack for pre-school and kindergarten.
On physical inspection, the interior measurements of the backpack without contorting it are 10"w x 11 1/2"w (at center) x 6". To get those 14" dimensions, I needed to flatten, stretch, or otherwise distort it well beyond its natural shape. Counting the top loop at its fullest extent is also useful to get that 14" height. Amazingly, the 6" depth appears to be accurate.
In terms of quality, the materials and sewing looks adequate. I can see how it would be possible for small objects to fall out through the small gaps where the back straps go through the bottom of the pack. This bag is a great size for my (3T wearing) 2 year old. The length-adjustable straps are nice, and we added a carabiner clip across my son's chest to make sure the straps don't slide off of his shoulders when he has a full backpack. The soft neoprene is very comfortable for my son; it's not rigid at all. The backpack is roomy and the neoprene keeps fruit and snacks cool. I'm about to use this as his lunchbox this week with an ice pack and I expect it will work just fine.
We get stopped everywhere by people wanting to know where we got this backpack. It is much cuter in person than in the pictures and my son absolutely loves it. I couldn't be happier with the looks, the size or the usefulness. It's not cheap, but it keeps things cold, has plenty of room for toys and books, and is machine washable. What more can you ask for?The product looks very cute. My son likes it, so I think it's ok. Maybe I will buy it again.Very cute, but not big enough to hold the nap stuff needed for pre-school children. Needed to be slightly larger.

High Sierra Burnout Backpack
Pros:
everything fits! With room to spare
Seems pretty weather resistant. I've been caught in some serious rain showers and all my valuables made it home fine.
The padding on the shoulders is very comfortable so as long as you can lift the weight you wont hurt your shoulders
There is lots of pockets to organize everything
The laptop pocket easily fits my laptop and I feel that its secure and doesn't bounce around a lot
The quality so far is great! No loose material or signs of wear
Lots of places to attach keychains or buttons to make it yours if your'e worried about such things
Cons:
It can get very heavy (not really the bags fault just how much stuff can fit)
I have the blue one and, in the photo, the mesh parts look grey but the entire back pack is the same blue color.
I think it looks a little big when I wear it but I would rather have everything I need then look like a model :P
Over all this backpack was the right choice for me. Its not the cutest thing in the world but it gets the job done with security and quality. And all my buttons make it mine!New backpack for 6' 9th grade son. Carries lots of books all day. Good padding & support. Attractive. Very happy with it.

Herschel Supply Co Pop Quiz Backpack
I bought this backpack due to its stylish design and less about its utilitarian features. I use it only for school so that is my perspective of this product. One thing that really bugs me about this backpack is the sunglasses pouch located at the top. Its basically just a pocket that has no sidewalls supporting it. If you happen to have books in your bag, theres a pretty good chance youll smash your glasses if they ever slide forward (like if you set your backpack on a desk too fast). And if youre not using the pouch, then it just gets in the way of you getting to the things you need.
Another thing that irks me a little is the two front pockets. Theres only enough room for pens/pencils and a calculator. I keep a graphing calculator in the back front pocket and anything I put in the front pocket gets squished by it.
Other than the things mentioned above, this backpack is definitely something I'd recommend to someone else to buy. The durability is there and I can see myself using this backpack for a couple years without worrying that itll fall apart on me. I knew that I'd be carrying a lot of books in my bag and it does the job fine in that regard. The pin stripe inner lining is pretty sweet as well. This backpack is beautiful in the outside and much more in the inside. The inner area is all cushioned so you can protect your laptop or tablet. There are lots of pockets and inside them there are specific places for pens and keys, there are also some see -through mesh pockets that helps you to find things quickly. I just believe they could lower the price without losing quality.

I really like the color and the concise design. The inner design is very practical that it can contain much more than I expected. But the design of the zipper is not very good. As zippers are hiden under a piece of farbric, it is hard to open them. A packbag at this price should not have such problem....Read Best Reviews of Herschel Supply Co Pop Quiz Backpack Here

V.T. 16" Men's Full Leather Briefcase Backpack Sprot Tote (3 straps) L69
This is not an on-the-fly-throw-everything-in-and-go bag. It is a bit of a process to open and close it but I find that makes me consider more carefully what I'm about to do and where I am going ... giving an extra pause, instead of rushing around like an idiot and forgetting things I really needed later on.
It is also not a quick access bag. There is one side sleeve, which is somewhat awkward to work with when the backpack straps are attached, however the buckle system for closing the bag makes me feel much more confident that nothing is falling out and/or no one is reaching in during a crowded commute.
Not really on a negative-side ... it is wider than a regular backpack when worn over the shoulders. This has caused more collisions with other walkers/texters when traversing the crowded streets of Manhattan. The upside is that it is strong enough to knock most people out of their daze to consider being aware of their surroundings instead of blindly navigating in their hazy, Blackberry world. I still say "I'm sorry" even while smiling inside.
Wish I had this bag ten years ago so that the leather would be a little softer, but certain that I would have gotten more second interviews. This would make a great graduation gift for a college student which they would truly appreciate a decade later.
Well worth every expensive penny paid.Leather is stiff but hopefully that will improve with age. If it does would be 5 star rating. Works nice as backpack.

Brooks Saddles Barbican Messenger Bag
1. It doesn't look as elegant/professional in real life as in the pictures.
2. Brook's photographers are very good.
3. I trust it's construction much more than a north face backpack, but slightly less than a proper timbuk2 bag.
4. my roommate took one look at it and said "that's a liberal art's professor's bag"
5. that's okay becuase it can carry a semester's worth of text books every day and manage to look only better after a year.
6. which is what you really need it for. After a lot of research and prolonged decision, I finally bought this Brooks Barbican bag from Amazon.com. The bag looks very nice. The leather shoulder strap is quite stiff but really add coolness to the bag. Somehow the real bag is more of Khaki colour not very white like shown on official Brooks England website. The image on Amazon.com is even more misleading because it shows the white leather version, which is a rare model (and much more expensive).
The canvas bag is made in China according to Brooks England website but it does not matter as the built quality is excellent. My only small complaint is that the bag is quite heavy (1.5 kg.) but given the leather, thick fabric straps and thick canvas justify the weight.
One strange thing is the size. I was suspecious when I received the bag because I ordered the medium size. The bag looks like a large size. So I made the measurement. It has 42 cm. wide and 30 cm. tall.
From official Brooks England website:
the medium is 34 cm. wide and 30 cm. tall.
the large one is 43 cm. wide and 33 cm. tall.
So mine looks like a hybrid model.I can't return it because I am in Thailand now and it's gonna be tricky to exchange for a new one.

Large Colorful Recycled Rice Bag Backpack
I'm really glad I purchased this bag, and would be quite shocked to see another like it. My only worry is how it'll hold up in the wash, but that's more of a concern about the color than the material.
Overall, highly recommended!

There is no denying this bag has it going on aesthetically...but the quality is pretty poor.I wanted this bag to carry light binders for school (nothing too heavy because the bag is handmade and not meant for heavy loads). However, the bag looked horrible with the binder inside of it. The bag completely lost its form when contents were added. The bag is really big, so it's not like it can be used as an everyday purse so now I have no use for it.

This is a beautiful bag, but it is not durable. The stitching loosened and the clasps came off within days. NOT ReCOMMENDED.My son loved the bag and its looks, but after just one use the straps tore.
