Osprey FlapJill LG Backpack
The bag that I got was the Jet Black Version, and just an FYI to anyone interested, the actual color isn't as dark as it appears in the picture. To me it looks more like a very dark charcoal, not so much a jet black.
Pros:
The backpack, although smaller than other bags holds a surprising amount of stuff. I'm a college student and can easily fit an Alienware M14X (which is a pretty thick laptop), all of my textbooks and notebooks, and several folders in the main compartment and laptop sleeve. In addition to all of that, there is plenty of space in the front pockets for my keys, wallet, pens, pencils, a planner, a small umbrella, and a bunch of miscellaneous items.
The quality of the pack is also superb. It is made of a very heavy canvas type material that is very durable and fairly water resistant. I tend to pack it quite full and I haven't had any trouble with tearing where the straps meet the body as I have had in the past with other bags.
The way the bag distributes weight across your back is awesome. I typically carry quite a lot of heavy stuff in mine and when i put it on, I don't have any trouble with back strain or feeling like all the weight is focused on my shoulders. It seems to spread the weight over your entire back which makes it super comfortable to wear while walking across campus.
Osprey offers a lifetime warranty on all of their bags, so if it gets damaged, they with either fix it or replace it free of charge.
Cons:
I wish there were a few more pockets on the front and the sides or possibly several smaller compartments instead of the few larger ones that it has.
There is a small Velcro patch that closes one of the compartments on the outside of the bag. I've found that if I have any pens or pencils in one of the little slots that are intended for pens or pencils, it obstructs the Velcro and makes it difficult to seal.
This pack is a little on the pricy side.
Conclusion:
This bag is fantastic and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Although there are a few minor cons, they pale in comparison to the massive number of pros. The higher price on this bag reflects its amazing quality. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality, stylish, and all around awesome backpack.Great bag to carry my laptop and other essentials. Recently returned to school via online classes, and all textbooks are online as well. If you are a college student looking for a bag to lug around a laptop PLUS a bunch of giant books, this is not the bag for you. If you have a laptop and a notebook or binder or two, and a few other miscellaneous smaller supplies, this bag is perfect! Well made, definitely worth the price.

Wife likes it a lot. Nice material. Good looking. Water resistant. The padding is nice and comfortable. Happy we got it.This is the best backpack I have ever owned in terms of weight distribution and how it fits on my back. The only little defect is that it is a little narrow. But that forces me to carry only the books I am really going to need for the day and not put in it an extra million things, and my back is thankful!I did a lot of research before finally selecting this commuter pack....and I'm so glad I did. I use this backpack for commuting to work and since I work 12-shifts, I needed something that could handle the gear. I can fit work shoes, a soft-sided lunch bag, a book, change of scrubs, etc without problems. I was a little curious about the waterproof-ness of the backpack, but had that question answered this morning when I was caught in a downpour on the way home from work. I arrived home soaked, with black road grit splattered all up my backside and on the backpack. I held the pack over the sink and literally just rinsed the grit and stains off. Next time I looked at it, it was dry and perfect again. The inside of the pack stayed perfectly dry. I love the zippered pockets and little compartments to stash stuff. I use the laptop section for my scrubs instead of a computer, but it looks like it would work great for a laptop too. No complaints, you should buy this backpack. Just be careful in your selection...there is the "regular" version and the large version (which I have). I tried on the regular version at a local Recreational Equipment Incorporated store and it seemed kind of small for my needs.Thursday, July 3, 2014

Targus Urban II Backpack Designed for 16-Inch Laptops - TSB196US (Black/Navy Trim)
I wouldn't recommend it to play double-duty as a bookbag because it doesn't feel like it could hold a ton of extra weight; the material might be on the thin-side for that. And if you plan to check it as luggage on an airline, have a tendency to drop bags, or are a bike rider that risks taking a fall, then you will want something with more padding. But I would say the average person who is simply walking it from one place to another will find the padding in this one just enough. If you find this on sale, it's certainly worth giving it a try!
I was particularly pleased with how much room for accessories there are. I have two power cords w/ A/C adaptor, a wired mouse and my wireless mouse in it and there's a lot more room for other stuff if needed. The very front zipper pocket has room for pens, business cards, etc, and is the perfect size for holding your e-reader. There are other smaller zipper compartments as well as a water bottle side compartments -all of which would make this a great carry-on bag.
It is compact and lightweight; easy to carry by the handle or wear on the back.
Now, I'm not sure this bag is worth $30 retail since it is basically a backpack with a some padding in the back compartment, hence my 4-star review instead of 5-star, but it was the least expensive bag I could find in a store and I got it for $10 on sale. Anything more expensive was overkill for what I needed. It's certainly worth getting as a gift or shopping around to find a great sale price.I purchased this product as a quick fix for my laptop backpack needs. Well, I guess I got what I paid for. I own a Toshiba 16 inch laptop with and extended battery. When placed in the laptop compartment, the fit is snug but when I attempted to secure the laptop with the strap provided, it barely fit. The second thing I noticed are the straps; they are basic backpack straps and over time, will break from the weight of the laptop and other items stored in the backpack. The backpack offers no bottom padding so be careful how you set it down on the floor or ground. The last negative item is the back padding. The back padding is a little thicker than a cord board box. If you have to walk some distance with the backpack fully loaded it is not a comfortable thing. On a more positive note, it does offer plenty of storage area.

Although, the product's 'blue' trim isn't as shown in the picture; it has a dark/navy blue trim. Either way, I'm still very happy with the product as it's able to carry out all it's functions and abilities as advertised. Very comfortable, fits my 15.5 inch laptop all snug and safe, numerous amounts of storage space for other materials; even a storage space for a liquid bottle of the sort. This backpack was really disappointing. It barely fits my 15inch laptop and the cable to strap it is so tight that I believe this ended up tearing another portion of the backpack. There is hardly any space as well.Compared to my other Targus backpack, " Targus 17-Inch Sport Backpack for Laptops Navy Blue", this was terrible.

Lenovo Targus Eternity 15-Inch Backpack (57Y6560)
laptop protection is null and front packet is unusable / inaccessible.
As for materials really goofy stuff
Price is close to Targus Excel, but you will be mistaken to think that you get anything remotely close in design / quality
JUNK STAY AWAYThis is a great backpack if you are looking for a SLIM and SIMPLE backpack. It has two zippered compartments, the large one and the front one. Inside the large compartment it has a slot for the laptop and has a small divider that splits the remaining area into two. So if this is not the backpack for you if you are looking for something with plenty of compartments.
It is well built. The straps and back is padded, it is comfortable to wear. I've had it for over 3 months and it is holding up very well, still looks brand new. The simple black with the orange accent makes it look clean also.
I got mine for 10$ but I would recommend it to anyone looking for a simple backpack for your laptop.

SumacLife Microsuede Sleeve with Neoprene Bubble Padding for Lenovo IdeaPad Y Series 15.6 inch Lapt
I rated it poorly because in addition to it definitely not being a sleeve, it is not custom for the Y580 or Y570 even, only 16ish inch laptops in general.
I was an extremely big disappointment when finally getting it.Having something attached to it for carrying would be perfect though. Anyway its really good and keeps the computer unpressured if in baggage.

Swiss Gear 16" Zinc Canvas Computer Notebook Briefcase

This bag rocks! It will carry a large laptop easily with room to spare. I like the organizer being outside the bag right under the main flap. The pocket on the main flap holds a lot to. The cellphone/mediastick pocket is a nice touch. I like the 2 pockets on the side and the magazine/newspaper pocket on the back. The strap is very comfortable and makes the bag easy to carry long distances even if it is fully loaded. I was in school back when I bought this bag because of my new laptop which was 2 inches larger than my old laptop and would not fit in my old laptop bag. The main compartment holds quite a bit and the pocket that's in front of the main compartment but behind the business organizer is very handy as well. My hats off to the maker of this excellent bag. The cost was great and very affordable. All in all, this bag was a steal at $40. It would've been a bargain at even 2 or 3 times that price. First off, this is not as long as it is measured to be and some of the pictures with people, on the web, make this bag look too long. It is not. I have to assume that the Amazon measurements take into account the 2 side pockets, stretched to their fullest. Actually, the length is just a hair over 16 inches and measured across the bottom, it is just over 15 inches. There are 2 long partitions inside, one with a Velcro flap over the top middle. There is a zipper closure in the flap on the outside and a Velcro held pocket along the entire backside, 15X10.5 with a matching pocket on the reverse side under the flap and behind the smaller, front pockets. Inside, there are two nylon pockets, 5.5 wide by 5 deep, one has a Velcro flap the other has a smaller mesh pocket on the outside. In the center is a Velcro nylon cell phone pocket, 2.5X4 with 2 pencil holders on the side. On both ends are zippered pockets, 4x6. The entire inside is lined with soft nylon and the partition and back side are padded. The bottom outside is also covered with more sturdy nylon and is also padded. The materials are top notch. The fittings are very good. The stitching and workmanship are as good as it gets. The color is grey/green with the green barely showing up.
Also, which explains the quality, this is made by Wenger, one of two companies authorized to make the Swiss Army Knives. No wonder this looks like it is made to military specs. It also explains the pocket attached to the cell phone pocket; it is for your Swiss Army Knife. Oh, and add a Lifetime Warranty with a flat $10 for shipping.
I would buy another in a minute and if I wasn't sure that this thing will outlast me, I would buy 2.

I bought this online because I found the same basic bag in the store for a smaller computer. I liked how it felt and looked but it was too small for my computer (the one in the store, that is). This bag is big enough for my computer...too big, actually. I found a lot of extra space in the laptop area after I put my computer in. It's a little maddening that I ended up having to choose between too small or too big, but ultimately I am satisfied with this bag. Plus the extra room allows me to have a laptop sleeve over the laptop while it's in the bag, so that allows me to add protection.
If you want a bag that has a snug fit, make sure your computer is 16".
The extra compartments save this bag from getting 3 stars, in my opinion. This will carry quite a bit more than a plain laptop bag, but it is not as burdening compared with a backpack capacity.
