Tenba ShootoutTM Backpack - Large Rolling

Tenba 632-333 Shootout Large Backpack with WheelsFirst of all, I bought this bag because the price was considerably below comperable rolling photo bags. I believe I paid a bit over $200, compared to over $300 for its competitors. It is a great bag, no doubt. When my gear is in it, I know that it's all well protected, from my Nikon D200 to my largest lens, a Tamron 200-500mm. There is room for my additional lenses, and all the rest of the stuff I drag around, except my tripod, which I put into my luggage when I travel. In fact, I bought it specifically for pulling around airports, because carrying all my photo gear was getting really old (maybe it's just me getting old....) Which leads to the issues:

1. As a carry-on, be warned. This will fit in the overhead bin, but ONLY if you open up the back where the backpack straps are stored, and lay it out flat. Otherwise, it just won't make it. It's a tight fit, but it's do-able. I've flown four times since I purchased this, so I know from experience. But, filled with gear, it's also too heavy, so I always have to rely on some strong man to do the man thing and get this sucker up there. Goddess forbid I'm told that I have to put it in with the luggage. I'd rather not fly.

2. The single post puller feels a bit weak, and it can tend to roll the bag if your not careful. It did roll a few times for me, but now that I know it has the tendency, I am careful going around corners, etc. As for being weak, it's really not, I don't think. It works, telescopes, etc. just fine. It's never felt like it was going to put loose or break.

3. The laptop slot is miserably tight. It invariably breaks my fingernails as I rush to remove the laptop when I'm at airport security. It's tight, but it protects the computer very well. In fact, there is room in the bag itself to keep the laptop necessities while traveling, including the power cord and the mouse.

4. For the life of me, I cannot imagine using this bag as a backpack. It's heavy in its own right. And, its big. In fact, I just may remove the backpack straps altogether, to avoid overhead storage issues. In fact, when I'm not traveling, it's a great storage device for gear that I'm not bringing with me on specific shoots.

Other than these four issues, it's a really nice bag. It's well built, and the zipper system is really nice. It has these rubber closures that fit well over the zipper as you zip it up. It's well padded. It's spacious. It's a nice bag. But, having said that, if I had an extra $200 on top of what this cost, I'd rather buy a Pelican or a Think Tank airline bag. As I said up front, it was a money issue. I'm not disappointed.

Hope this all helps. :-)

Rollerblade wheels

Full Backpack with padded straps and even some lumbar padding.

Holds 2 camera bodies with grips, 8-10 lenses, flash, and even capacity to hold a full sized Manfrotto Tripod.

Weather wrap

Weather proof zippers

15-17 inch Laptop case

Solid construction retractable handle

Side access pockets that gives you access to the main compartment

Detachable CF card wallet

And instantly converts to a standard carry-on luggage bag by a removable shell.

This is a well-engineered bag with a lot of flexibility built in. The laptop sits snugly and securely behind the handle plate mechanism so your back never makes contact with the lap top. The compartments offer a spacious configuration with very easy to access side compartments. The compartments come out in single removable shell, allowing you to convert this camera bag into an airline luggage bag in mere seconds. The construction is solid and the handle slides out with smooth precision.

The outer panel folds out to a handy tripod holder that permits you to carry small travel tripods to large tripods (like the Manfrottos). You can convert this roller bag into a hiking backpackby unzipping panel to reveal the straps. Tenba cleverly engineered this flap to cover the luggage wheels so it never soils your clothing then lugging the pack on your back. The lumbar padding is minimal. The backpack straps do have a waist strap and a chest strap for extended hiking.

There's an all weather wrap included in the pack. Also there's weather resistant zippers that seal the compartment against rain.

The case fits perfectly on the airline overhead compartment. Rolls nicely through airports.

A free CF card wallet with a tethered leash is provided on one of the side access pockets.

Overall, this bag gets high marks from me.

Advantages:

Well Built

Lots of features

Versatile and solid construction

Lots of capacity

Disadvantages:

Lumbar padding is minimal

Limited color choices.

Bottom line:

Surprisingly great and underrated features make this bag a terrific value for the traveling photojournalist.

This product is an outstanding example of blending the two worlds of digital photography and digital imaging into one incredibly practical rolling unit that held everything I wanted to take to Mexico for taking and processing images. I can't tell you everything this backpack has or can do. It would take more than I wish to type. Suffice it to say that for both the professional and amateur photographer who wants a package that can hold it all (including laptop and all accessories), protect everything, take on or off the road and be incredibly accessible, this is the unit for you. I love it.

Recently completed a "cruise tour" to Alaska. Wanting a larger bag to accomodate my gear, I settled upon Tenba's "Shootout" LARGE Rolling Backpack.

Other reveiws will give you the specs on this case. It is big. Very big. However, its design creates some limitations or room for improvement.

The bag is very well built. I carried two Canon DSLR bodies, a vertical control grip, four lenses (Tamron 28-300 "walkabout", Canon 100-400 L, 16-35L and a Sigma 150mm 2.8 macro), an EX 550 flash, 2x extender, a Wolverine 100gb storge unit and the usual accessories and cables. For computing, a HP 9000 series 17" notebook. All this tipped the scale at 43 lbs. Toss in the Manfrotto and its 48 back breaking pounds.

As the airlines are getting really fussy on what you can bring along, I wanted a bag to accomodate all my gear knowing upon arrival in hotels, onboard, etc. I could park gear not needed.

While the bag is as large as a weekender suitcase, it did fit in the overhead bin without having to open up and spread out the backpack harness. However, this was on a 737-400 series and no way it would fit in a regional carrier's overhead.

The "pouch" design for the tripod I found to be unique, but I opted to just strap it to the side of the bag and keep the pouch closed during airport/hotel/ship navigation. In the field it would probably work out just fine.

Although massive in size, the actual camera/equipment storage area was a bit dissapointing. The pockets are 5.5 inches deep. My 5d with vertical grip and tripod mount attached is 6 inches. The top of the bag will close, but the top of the camera pushes up hard against the padding creating an impact point. Removing the tripod mount, it's a nice snug fit. Take off the grip, and a good inch to spare.

The single pull handle feels a bit wobbly, but performs well. Extended, it curves forward an inch or so. Not much, but this allows the bag to remain more vertical when being pulled. Drawback: the more vertical the bag, the more it skips and twists. The lower you hold the handle, the more stable the bag is when being pulled. I'd suggest to Tenba to reverse the handle to tip it just a bit more forward to increase stability.

I couldn't get a straight answer from Tenba whether a HP 17" notebook would fit into the medium bag, so I opted for the large. The HP weighs a more than hefty 8 lbs. I didn't take into account, when closed, the rear side is larger than the front. Where an Apple is thin, the HP is thick and the fit is snug. Very snug. It did loosen up a bit after a few days. The pocket is deep enough for the HP AND the power supply. Just make sure to coil the cord around the PS to prevent direct contact. There's still enough room to stick a wallet inside.

The wheel assembly and notebook pocket take up half the 10-11 inch depth of the entire bag. Suggestion to Tenba: Use double frame rails and position the notebook pocket between them. Would give the unit a slightly wider and more stable wheelbase, great protection and provide about 3 more inches of depth inside the bag for gear. This allows more lenses to be carried on end vs. being laid flat.

For the little things, there is a flat storage compartment inside the lid. It's a flat pocket. Period. Good for things like manuals or anything also flat. There are a couple of elastic loops for a lens brush, etc. but the "peanut" shaped lid wraps down a bit so best for short items.

The included tethered cases, one for memory cards and one for a slim cellphone are great.

These are inside the two external accesible compartments on either side of the bag at the base. Very slick feature, you can keep your favorite smaller lens in the bottom of the bag and pull it out through the compartment. No need to open the bag to get to them. This is a great feature. These compartments are also great for storage of small items. However, in reach for a lens, you have to dig through and perhaps drop anything in the way. If you want to change lenses fast, almost a certainty you're better off keep the compartment empty.

Overall, the bag is very large and well built. Once I loaded it up and used the harness, I quickly realized how HEAVY it was, and how quickly I'd drop lugging it around.

Through the airport, to hotels, onboard ship....it's perfect being pulled around. To use in the field, take along just what you really need to keep the weight down. Or do like I did and bring along my photo vest for field work.

It's a good bag/backpack. Extremely well built and very underated. Balance out your need. If rolling capability isn't that important, go for the non rolling bag and pick up an external rolling setup.

After reading the reviews on Amazon and other sites I was very excited for the arrival of my Tenba Backpack. Then I saw it. Holy cow. I am 6'0" and weigh about 190lbs. Wearing this bag as a backpack looked ridiculous. Here are the reasons why I am sending this bag back:

1 Too big to be backpack. Simply not a useful way to carry it. The depth of the bag is 13 inches. It is like carrying a suitcase on your back.

2 Not enough space. I currently own a small Canon backpack and after transferring all of my gear into the Tenba, I only had room for a couple more lenses. What is unbelievable is that the Tenba is 3X the size of my Canon backpack.

3 Not enough pockets. I want to keep things organized and on my Canon backpack I have side pockets, two front pockets, and then inside I have the organizational compartments and two flat pocksts. The Tenba has fewer pockets. It is missing any usable front pockets which are what you need when you travel to stick in travel documents, a book, ipod, etc.

4 Pockets are tight. I was barely able to squeeze my 13" MacBook into the laptop compartment and I was unable to get a book in there as well. It was difficult to pull the laptop out again and would definitly struggle with it in the airport security line.

5 Zippers are tough to open. The zippers are cool since they completely seal, but they are not easy to open. Part of this is the path that they need to travel which is an S curve so you can't get any momentum.

6 Hard to get the handle out. The handle tucks away too nicely and like all of the other pockets, it is hard to pull it out when you need it, especially when the bag is packed full.

7 Waist Band not removeable. Since you are only going to want to use the backpack function is rare moments that it is too difficult to roll, you really don't need the THICK waist band. Unfortunately, once you access the shoulder straps the band flaps around and cannot be stowed away.

8 No side handle. Since this bag is basically a suitcase, I would expect to be able to grab it from both the top and the side. Unfortunately there are no handles on the sides.

9 Wasted space. I pulled out the entire organized camera compartment and removed the back cover. I got to a hidden section that has two thick pads and the bar for the pull handle. THIS IS WHERE THE SPACE WENT. This was about 2" wasted space along the entire length of the bag.

10 Main compartment too deep. Another place where space is lost is in the main compartment. When I put my SLR body in the bag there is still about 2" on top of it. Now am not going to put something on it or below it, so again this is wasted space. I found that in order to truly fill one of the slots I had to put multiple items on top of eachother.

Overall, the bag is cool and obviously a lot of thought has gone into it. But really they should ditch the whole backpack concept and just use the wheels. Also, I saw a bag that had a low profile options for the main section compartments. This allows you to lay your laptop on top of the gear.

Stephen Joseph Girls 2-6x Girl's Rolling Backpack

Stephen Joseph Girls 2-6x Girl's Rolling Backpack, Butterfly, One SizeThis small backpack is cute in appearance, but poor in quality for the price. The handle does not stay up and is flimsy. The antennae get in the way of the zipper, which is small and makes it hard to get things in and out. If my granddaughter did not love it, I would return it for another type of backpack with wheels that we can really pack her things in when she travels. This is more of a play thing.

I purchased this to use for travel and I'm returning it because it won't work for my daughter and I to use together. She's only 2 and I would be the one retrieving and replacing her items. I could see that this would be okay for a child to use independently but the zippered opening is not that large and near impossible for my hands to get things in and out comfortably.

The design is very cute and appears to be well made but I can't speak for how it holds up after use.

Buy Stephen Joseph Girls 2-6x Girl's Rolling Backpack Now

This backpack is adorable and functional . . . from a distance. The packaging left residual stickiness and it was when I looked closer to get it off that I saw how poorly put together this item is. To be fair, it is primarily the decorations. The stitching on the butterfly wings and antennae, etc is just not high quality. There are stray strings, rough edges. The material is sort of faux leather and I expect it won't last. The functionality is not compromised and as I said, the kids love it but if I had seen this in the store, seen how poorly it is put together, I would have kept looking for something else. (We also bought the monkey which had the same problems.

I bought this for my 19 month old for Christmas. The bag is really cute. She loves it and can pull it on her own, but we can't really put much in it. This would be perfect if it was twice the size.

Cute but WAY too small for anything for a school age child. Might be cute for an airplane carry on for a little one's play items but useless for school.

13 inch Brilliant Butterfly Escape White Floral Notebook Laptop Sleeve Bag Carrying Case for Apple

13 inch Brilliant Butterfly Escape White Floral Notebook Laptop Sleeve Bag Carrying Case for Apple Macbook, Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, SonyThe sleeve fits my 13.3 inch MacBook Pro perfectly. I had been wanting a sleeve that would fit for the longest time, and this serves the purpose just fine. The padding is adequate for carrying it around in a backpack or purse, depending on what you're going to put your laptop through; some might require more, others less. The design is vibrant and the butterfly colorful, and the zipper area is padded with a hidden track so as not to scratch your laptop. The initial smell is not the most pleasant, but I'm hoping this will fade in time. Otherwise, it's a great buy at a decent price and is a unique alternative to the typical solid color, obscenely priced sleeves that one finds at your usual retailer of such products.

This is a well-padded, tight-fitting sleeve that fits my 13" macbook pro perfectly. It's cute too, but looks a little cheaper than I expected somehow maybe the white part is a bit more gray or something? Not a big deal though, it's fine and does what I need it to and it has a butterfly on it so I'm happy.

Brown PU Leather-like Material Backpack School Bag Super Cool for School-By JAM Closet

Brown PU Leather-like Material Backpack School Bag Super Cool for School-By JAM ClosetI got this bag to go off to college in the fall & it is beautiful! The material isn't leather but it looks just like it & it turned out to be a lot bigger than what I imagined. Plus it didn't take too long for it to be delivered. I am a happy customer (:

I ordered this bag last Tuesday and received it the following Monday just in time for my first class. It really is beautiful and the leather like material is soft to the touch. I can't believe how much room this bag has. I'm really happy with it over all. It's classy and chic for the girl who wants a more "grown up" bag. I recieved several comments on it while on campus today. The only thing I don't like is that the straps are held to the bag with magnetic buttons that don't click together well so they keep popping open. It doesn't hurt anything because the bag is also a draw string so it's not like my books and stuff will fall out, just a tad annoying. But that is the only thing I could find wrong with it. I also love the pockets for easy access to pencils and such. A lot of backpacks tend to over do the outside pockets, but this one is just right! Completely satisfied!

When i saw this back pack online, it looked perfect for me, so I ordered it. The shipping took two weeksa little disappointing.

When i opened it up, i was happy about the size. it is definitely big enough for all my books, and it looks just like the backpack pictured.

I am not happy when it comes to the quality. The lining of the outside pockets is a weird plastic-y material that makes a crinkling noise when you touch your backpack. Also, the inside pocket zipper broke immediately, the very first time i tried to unzip it.

I havent gotten the chance to use it long enough to determine the durability, but it doesnt seem strong enough to last more than one school year.

Overall, the backpack was just okay.

I bought this product for my daughter...it came two days after we ordered it. The $8.29 was definitely worth it. It came in a pretty small package but the bag itself is actually quite large. My daughter is using it as a carry-on and found that it held all her stuff with room to spare

Voodoo Tactical Improved Matrix Pack Backpack MOLLE - Hydration Compatible - 15-9032 Olive Drab OD

Voodoo Tactical Improved Matrix Pack Backpack MOLLE - Hydration Compatible - 15-9032 Olive Drab OD GreenI own two of these. One in Coyote & one in OD Green. I use one for camping/hiking and one for daily use. I've traveled with it as well as a carry on. This thing is AWESOME. Holds enough stuff for a 5 day trip outta town plus all the tech toys, all in the size of a carry on piece of luggage. Well constructed in my opinion. Great zippers, heavy duty canvas. Comes with extra straps for compression & attaching extra stuff, tons of space for add on MOLLE gear. Like I said holds all my nerd gear on a daily use with room to spare. You will not be disappointed with this product unless you're one of those folks who will nitpick over the smallest of details or are never satisfied with anything you buy. The only con I can think of is it's heavy all by itself. it's at least 3 lbs. Backpacking/hiking you really don't need that extra weight.

Product just what my son wanted. Great quality. Extra large size, a lot of pockets. Like the laptop built in pocket

Targus Urban II Backpack Designed for 16-Inch Laptops - TSB196US (Black/Navy Trim)

Targus Urban II Backpack Designed for 16-Inch Laptops - TSB196USThis bag suits my needs perfectly. The very back zipper compartment has adequate padding for my work laptop -an IBM ThinkPad with 15" display (the actual computer measures 16" diagonally) and there's room to spare, so it could easily fit a laptop that is 1" bigger and certainly one that is thicker.

I wouldn't recommend it to play double-duty as a bookbag because it doesn't feel like it could hold a ton of extra weight; the material might be on the thin-side for that. And if you plan to check it as luggage on an airline, have a tendency to drop bags, or are a bike rider that risks taking a fall, then you will want something with more padding. But I would say the average person who is simply walking it from one place to another will find the padding in this one just enough. If you find this on sale, it's certainly worth giving it a try!

I was particularly pleased with how much room for accessories there are. I have two power cords w/ A/C adaptor, a wired mouse and my wireless mouse in it and there's a lot more room for other stuff if needed. The very front zipper pocket has room for pens, business cards, etc, and is the perfect size for holding your e-reader. There are other smaller zipper compartments as well as a water bottle side compartments -all of which would make this a great carry-on bag.

It is compact and lightweight; easy to carry by the handle or wear on the back.

Now, I'm not sure this bag is worth $30 retail since it is basically a backpack with a some padding in the back compartment, hence my 4-star review instead of 5-star, but it was the least expensive bag I could find in a store and I got it for $10 on sale. Anything more expensive was overkill for what I needed. It's certainly worth getting as a gift or shopping around to find a great sale price.

I purchased this product as a quick fix for my laptop backpack needs. Well, I guess I got what I paid for. I own a Toshiba 16 inch laptop with and extended battery. When placed in the laptop compartment, the fit is snug but when I attempted to secure the laptop with the strap provided, it barely fit. The second thing I noticed are the straps; they are basic backpack straps and over time, will break from the weight of the laptop and other items stored in the backpack. The backpack offers no bottom padding so be careful how you set it down on the floor or ground. The last negative item is the back padding. The back padding is a little thicker than a cord board box. If you have to walk some distance with the backpack fully loaded it is not a comfortable thing. On a more positive note, it does offer plenty of storage area.

Although, the product's 'blue' trim isn't as shown in the picture; it has a dark/navy blue trim. Either way, I'm still very happy with the product as it's able to carry out all it's functions and abilities as advertised. Very comfortable, fits my 15.5 inch laptop all snug and safe, numerous amounts of storage space for other materials; even a storage space for a liquid bottle of the sort.

This backpack was really disappointing. It barely fits my 15inch laptop and the cable to strap it is so tight that I believe this ended up tearing another portion of the backpack. There is hardly any space as well.

Compared to my other Targus backpack, " Targus 17-Inch Sport Backpack for Laptops Navy Blue", this was terrible.

Baggallini Luggage Traverse Backpack

baggallini Traverse BackpackI love everything about this Baggallini daypack--the color (inside and out!), the style, the weight distribution. I purchased this daypack to take with me to Alaska this summer. This daypack holds my large sunglasses case, my camera, rain gear, and more. (I tested it this weekend, just to be sure!) The main compartment opens wide, and the back compartment is much roomier than it first appears. The adjustable shoulder straps are a blessing. I am looking forward to avoiding the inevitable shoulder pain caused by conventional handbags and shoulder bags after a day of sightseeing. I purchased the daypack in navy blue with a lime green interior--a lovely, bright combination.

All the space, all the pockets, and it doesn't hurt my back!

I've been looking for this for a years.

New! Rugged Hydration Sling Bag for when you're on the Trail or just on the Go

New! Rugged Hydration Sling Bag for when you're on the Trail or just on the GoThis is a small bag and it is made of very good material. This bag also has many compartments and will fit many needs. I took this bag on my last tripe to Asia and I carried my Ipad in the inside compartment and I had to stripe my Mac Pro 15" to the outside with the cross stripe but it worked.

Being winter, I haven't had too much time to use it, but I think It'll work out great-much better than a regular Camelback, because you can carry lunch in it, as well as water

I bought a sling bag for my bike ride to and from work. It carried my uniform, wallet, keys, ipod, phone, and charger with no room for anything else. It may seem like a lot but it really isn't has lots of pockets but not very deep. After 3 days of use the carabiner broke, two days after that the stitching that held the elastic cord that sercured the webbing of the exterior pocket came loose making it useless. The straps also had a tendency to loosen as I rode. I really wanted to like this backpack but it continued to frustrate me and I ended up buying a different backpack.

Read Best Reviews of New! Rugged Hydration Sling Bag for when you're on the Trail or just on the Go Here

I purchased the Everest Sporty Hydration Sling Bag for an upcoming trip to Disneyland. I wanted something lightweight, comfortable, sleek and minimalist and this big fits the bill perfectly. The hydration aspect of the bag was just an added bonus as days at Disneyland can be very long and hot. Keep in mind that the bag doesn't come with the bladder, but they can be found at most major retailers.

The bag is minimal in size but has enough room for all the essentials of the day. The look of the bag is fairly masculine (which I like) and is clearly military inspired. The M.O.L.L.E. system on the bag makes it very adaptable as accessories can be added as you see fit. The shoulder strap is comfortable and breathable and has a side release buckle for easy removal. I did have an issue with some stitching coming undone from the shoulder strap portion that is meant to secure the hose for the bladder, but there are several other straps remaining to secure it. The design of the shoulder strap allows you to only wear the pack over one shoulder and across your chest (meaning you can't switch shoulders) which may be a problem during extended use as far as comfort is concerned.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this pack and will edit this post after putting it through its paces at the happiest place on earth and let you know how it held up.

**After only a couple of days of light use, I would change my opinion and advise you not to buy this. The poor quality of this bag became very apparent as much of the stitching came undone, especially on the shoulder strap. The majority of the straps which are designed to retain the tube from your hydration bladder, completely came undone as all of their stitching pulled out. This bag may suit your needs but I see it ending up in my next garage sale.**

Case Logic Security Friendly Laptop Backpack

Case Logic 16-Inch Security-Friendly Laptop BackpackThis is my second Case Logic "security friendly" piece of luggage, and like the CLCS-116 over-the-shoulder messenger type bag, the CLBS-116 backpack has a lot of nice features but seems to be missing a lot of the every day features you expect with most laptop bags.

Of the many laptop backpacks I've owned, the OGIO Metro Backpack and discontinued Samsonite Rafter are my top two favorite, so I use them as a baseline for comparison purposes. Compared to those two bags, this Case Logic is firmly planted on the "Spartan" side of the fence. It's very low on features, but what it does, it does well. Most of what I said in my Case Logic 16-Inch Full-Size Security Friendly Laptop Case (CLCS-116) can be repeated here for much of the pro's and con's carry through to this backpack model with a few changes.

Pros:

Non-laptop half of the bag has lots of good segmented and non-segmented compartments. Good for holding gadgets like Blackberries, phones, MP3 players, power cords, pens, books, etc...

Small semi-hidden "wallet" hole for hiding cash.

Zipper sliders are metal, not plastic (a big plus in my book). Zipper teeth are mostly plastic with the exception of the front zipper which is metal. All zippers on my bag pulled nice and smooth.

Holds my 15.4" laptop like a champ lots of padding, plenty of room.

Put my Inspiron 1720 17" laptop in, just to see if it'd fit. "Kind of" would be a good description the laptop fit, but only because I removed the battery (Dell laptops have gone to a configuration where the battery hangs off the back end). The 17" laptop is pushing at the seams of the compartment, so not a whole lot of padding left at the sides. Not bad for a backpack that advertises itself as a 16" laptop backpack.

Secondary "stuff" pocket is full sized, extending wide enough to hold a hefty 3-4" phonebook-sized item.

Relatively light for a backpack at 3lbs.

Nice "pass-through" feature which lets you thread the pull bar of rolling luggage through allowing for piggy-backing of the pack.

Cons:

No headphones hole thought that was odd for Case Logic.

Very little padding in non-laptop half of the case careful with your gadgets!

No side pockets, mostly because you have to open it up for the security screening.

Not a whole lot of extension allowance if your items don't fit, they won't fit. The stitch is stiff nylon so there's not a lot of give.

The straps are attached by way of two Z-stitches at the top and a double-stitch to an extension at the bottom if you overload your backpacks a lot like I do, these stitches probably won't last very long. However if you're just hauling a laptop, a book, and a few gadgets, this should last a lifetime.

Conclusion:

Since this backpack is a "Generation 1" of these security bags, I'm hoping that the future will bring more cost-effective and feature rich bags. The cost itself is probably prohibitive enough to bring this backpack out of the reach of most students, and honestly if the only benefit that you're getting is that you don't have to put the laptop in the scanning device, it's probably not enough for most people to purchase this backpack. However if you're the consultant type who takes semi-daily business trips, being able to fly through the security checkpoint with just your backpack and shoes removed is probably enough of an incentive to grab this bag. Plus the design is clean enough to look professional.

The only problem I have with this backpack is that it is a little dorky looking. Very plain looking, all black with matte silver zippers. Other then that, this is a great backpack!

As someone who lugs around a decent sized widescreen laptop, this is exactly the kind of laptop you would like to have. The rear portion of the backpack contains a padded area for you to store your laptop. Padded as to not damage the computer and to not cause you any discomfort also the lining of this pocket is soft as to not scratch any of the surfaces of your laptop.

The bag features a zipper that basically allows you to split the backpack in half and lay it down flat for scanning through the x-ray machine at airports. This of course is nice since you aren't pulling out your laptop and tossing it in one of those dirty gray bins and getting it scratched, etc..

The front half of the bag contains three other pockets, a smaller one on the front, a slightly larger one behind that which contains smaller pockets for pens, business cards and other small items, then you have one larger pocket which has room for things like power adapters, Cd's, etc..

A couple of other nice features:

The bag is designed to hold it's shape and stand up right when set down. The shoulder straps are padded and curved, making them very easy and comfortable to use. And a nice little touch the adjustable straps that normally dangle after you adjust them, these straps have nifty little Velcro pieces that allow you to roll them up and keep them from getting dirty when you have the bag on the ground or getting caught on stuff as you walk around.

Suffice to say, the bag may not be the coolest looking backpack out there, but you can tell that a lot of thought was put into it design, the designers remembered the little things that annoy you about backpacks that you wished you could fix. Glad I have it!

Buy Case Logic Security Friendly Laptop Backpack Now

Caselogic's 16-Inch Security Friendly Laptop Backpack is a handsome-looking, sturdily built backpack that is designed for maximum convenience in and out of the airport, with a layout that is smart, efficient and accessible.

If I have one caveat with this backpack, it is that it cannot handle much weight before it inadvertently unzips down the middle, causing the backpack to split into two loosely-hanging sections that constantly swing apart from each other. This fast becomes extremely annoying; as a result, if you are going to be using this bag as something other than a laptop backpack or if you tend to travel heavy, I'd recommend you look elsewhere. However, if you tend to travel lightly, this is worth picking up... especially at Amazon.com's current price point.

I regularly travel by airplane and I'm a student, so I decided to try the Case Logic security friendly laptop backpack. According to Case Logic, this backpack will get a person through security checkpoints quickly while fully protecting the laptop and sensitive documents. When approaching an X-ray machine, just unzip and lay flat on the conveyer belt. At the other end, just lift the handle and go.

On my most recent trip, I packed the bag with a 15.4" Dell Latitude D800, a couple school books, some papers, the usual laptop stuff, and some other junk; all together the bag weighed about 20 pounds. I also travel with a Tamrac Expedition 5 backpack containing a digital SLR, several lenses, filters and more resulting with a bag weighing about 20 pounds as well. Considering these two bags weigh the same, the camera bag with its waist strap and shoulder strap connector over the chest feels much lighter on the shoulders. The additional straps distribute the weight better, but would slow down the removal process. However Case Logic's luggage strap allows for carrying the backpack on your suitcase while strapped to the handle.

A lot of thought went into the construction and organizational properties of this laptop backpack Even though Case Logic indicates the plush laptop compartment will hold a 16" laptop, I was able to pack a 17" HP G70-246US comfortably without any zipper closure fuss; although the top corners could be identified. For screening purposes, nothing but the laptop should be stored in this section. The main storage area has a couple pockets to stash the cord and other accessories while allowing plenty of room for books and papers. The front compartment provides many pockets for organizing and includes a clip to hold a key ring. Plus a hidden passport storage compartment is placed between the two zippered halves.

The pre-screening security officer busily warned people to pull out their laptops, but I ignored him. I took the bag off my back, unzipped the two center zippers and laid the properly packed bag out flat on the conveyor belt. The bag passed inspection without any issues. On the other end, I grabbed the main handle and the bag went naturally back together for zipping even though I chose to do so later. Keep in mind, Case Logic warns "It is up to the discretion of the US Transportation Security Officer whether a laptop sleeve can pass without further screening." This by far was the easiest experience passing a laptop through security I can recall.

If you're looking for a laptop bag for traveling which can get you through security check points quickly and hassle free, strongly consider the Case Logic security friendly laptop backpack. The executive on the go would benefit the most, but even the occasional traveler could make use of this sturdy and effective laptop bag. Plus this bag is backed by a 25 year warranty.

PROS:

Sturdy and well constructed

Ample back padding

Manufactured for organization

Luggage strap

CONS:

Feels heavy on the shoulders

I travel frequently, but hate carrying my heavy laptop in a messenger bag, but don't like carrying a laptop-only bag. And then there's the "take it all out" routine at airport security which is awkward with any bag.

This bag is the first one I've found that finally addresses all of those issues. It's reinforced to carry laptops (unlike the messenger bag). It has room to carry other items, so it can be my "personal-item" airline carry-on (unlike the laptop bag). And with its split zippered TSA-approved design, my laptop stayed in the bag after going through security four times so far (3 different airports).

The pack is also unobtrusive in urban life (doesn't scream "I'm carrying a computer!!" like a laptop case does), and has some hipster-chicness; at least I didn't feel too silly-looking carrying this in various cities. Loaded up, it is a bit bulky and I've bumped people when wearing it, but that goes with the territory of a backpack.

I was able to carry my computer, various laptop accessories, papers, a DSLR, an extra SLR lens, a bottle of water, and some random bits of food without the bag feeling over-full.

This backpack addresses most of my concerns with the similar briefcase Caselogic product Case Logic 16-Inch Full-Size Security Friendly Laptop Case (CLCS-116) (that one had limited capacity, was awkward to carry full, and had less useful compartments).

Quibbles: The strap buckles could be redesigned to not move as readily -I found with frequent use they often slipped to the longest position.

I use this bag every time I travel, and around town too. Highly recommended.

Travelpro Luggage Crew 9 Rolling Garment Carry-On Bag

Travelpro Luggage Crew 9 Rolling Garment Carry-On Bag, Black, One SizeThe wheel broke on an older Travelpro bag and I didn't like the rubbery handle which made it hard to slide my briefcase on. This one has a harder rubber edge to the handle and it is significantly lighter. Love it!

High Sierra Chaser Wheeled Book Bag

High Sierra Chaser Wheeled Book Bag Backpack, Black/Charcoal/BlackI bought this backpack for my 10 year old daughter as every year her backpacks have not held up to all her books, wear and tear, and break her back from the weight. This backpack is perfect for her! The colors are bold, it has so much space inside, and the handle for the roller feature moves so easily even when she's in a hurry to get to class! We both are very satisfied with the product and I know it's worth having spent a little more because I can tell this is not one we will have to replace in 6 months. Great product!

I purchased this book bag after reading reviews and was not disappointed. My 11 year old neighbor began using it immediately. The wheels are important because of the number of books needed for class. The bag is well designed and more importantly the wheels and handle are very sturdy. This brand is our new go-to for book bags.

If you're looking for a rolling backpack to carry a lot of books and heavy things this isn't the one (my handle snapped off after 6 months). If you carry a several small books this would work great. It has two compartments, the main one and a really small one for phone mini notepad change stuff like that. So it depends how much stuff you put in it .

This backpack is great, my 9 years old boy loves it. It's easy to carry on, good materials and it's durable. Very pleased with the purchase and the time delivered, in less than a week the package was on my house.

I should have known when I looked for a "book bag" that it was not intended for adults????? I would never have bought this item if I had the opportunity to handle it before ordering it. The rolling was the key need for this book bag. Unfortunately the handle does not extend far enough for an adult to comfortably use the rolling feature. I would not recommend this bag for anyone over 5 foot tall.

Kids Kindergarten Children Backpack / School Bag / Day Pack

14' Kids Kindergarten Children Backpack / School Bag / Day PackI purchased this backpack for a kindergartener whose teacher places homework and notes for home in a 12 3/8" x 9 ½" folder. The Amazon listing states that this backpack measures 14"x11"x6" and it was chosen specifically because it was large enough to hold the school folder.

When the folder clearly did not fit in the backpack my husband, an engineer, measured it. The length of the backpack down the center is 13 3/4", not 14", and the length on the sides measures a scant 12". The width at the bottom of the backpack measures 9 1/4", not 11", and the width along the top of the backpack is only 7 3/4".

I gave the backpack two stars because it is well made of quality materials.

Super Mario Backpack - Full size Mario Kart School Backpack

Super Mario Backpack - Full size Mario Kart School BackpackGreat pack for a little guy who loves Mario. He can pack all his Mario gear when we go somewhere.

First impression of book bag was that it was definitely smaller than expected. My son is in the 2nd grade and it seemed like a size book bag a kindergartener or first grader would wear. Nonetheless, my son is happy with the bag and loves the 3D effects.

Cheap product, not worth buying. My 5 year old got this backpack for Kindergarten and within the first 3 weeks all the zippers broke. Very disappointed. Don't waste your money.

Carrot Ab-24029 Polkadot Print Canvas Flap Backpack

Carrot Ab-24029 Polkadot Print Canvas Flap BackpackVery pleased when the bag came in the mail. Very roomy inside so you could use it for a school or use it as a day pack because its so darn cute. Only problem for me are the straps. The straps are pretty thin and have no cushion for shoulder support. Other then that the bag is great, I absolutely love it. Definitely recommend this =]

Cute, fashionable, not too big and not too small, perfect for day trips, which is what I purchased it for. It looks well made and I certainly hope it will last for a long time to come!!

I really love this backpack. It's big, but that's fine. The brown details are made of leather. Seems very resistant. I have no regrets.

Map 3500 3 Day Assault Pack - Anaconda Green

Map 3500 3 Day Assault Pack - Anaconda GreenVery versatile. Function over fashion, goes from trailhead to departure gate at the airport no problem. Spacious and well thought out, be advised the sunglasses pocket is a bit snug.

My husband bought a kelty map 3500 for use at work. When we planned a trip to the local zoo, I decided to take the pack with us. We bought the camelback bladder and put the kids clothes, snack, books, first aid kit. The bag worked so great, all the things fit nicely and it was not burden to carry, like my old diaper bags. The fact that I could drink fresh water whenever I wanted without having to buy bottles of water was so nice.

I have now bought a pack of my own and whenever we go anywhere we take our packs with us. Everyone always comments what a nice idea it is to carry the pack with the water. I know that before I had the pack I would buy water and soda at very high prices, not anymore.

I love this pack.

Sandpiper of California Three Day Pass Backpack

Sandpiper of California Three Day Pass BackpackI got this bag as a Christmas gift. I had never heard of the company, but I really liked the design(for the most part). Mine is the Coyote Brown version and it's 600 denier cordura. The bag has 5 external pockets. Now, lets move to pro's and con's.

Pro's:

-Big enough, but not too big

-Great organization

-Good color (it's not faded or too dark)

-Comfy to wear on long(er) hikes.

-Attachment points on bottom make adding a sleeping bag/ tent easy!

Good stitching and construction

Con's:

-No side pockets or side MOLLE points

-Not YKK zippers

-compression straps only compress main pocket

Overall, I like this bag for air travel, overnight2 day hikes, 72hr. B.O.B, or for school (if you want it for that)

Great bag. I have used it everyday for nearly a year, but a few months ago the zippers started to break and open up on their own. Not cool when you are walking down the street! Otherwise a great product, but durable zippers would be needed for a 5 out of 5.

Buy Sandpiper of California Three Day Pass Backpack Now

So I purchased this backpack locally and it is such a great backpack, I decided to come on here and do a review for it.

Color: Black

Number of separate zipper compartments: 5 decreasing is size

Pros:

4 of the 5 pockets have an organizational system inside that keeps things nice and neat.

Main compartment has adjustable straps so you're not carrying so much stuff, you can reduce the size of the bag.

VERY VERY Comfortable to wear (I have back problems).

Carry handle on top can be used to carry the bag or hang it up on a hook.

Every adjustable strap has a piece of velcro on the end of it to tie up the excess straps so they aren't hanging out or flying around in the wind.

Extra padding on the bottom in case you set it down on something rough or wet.

Hydration system feed through at the top (could also be used for headphones).

Zippers appear to be great quality and durable.

Cons:

-The only thing I could complain about with this backpack is the fact that string is used for the zipper pulls. I have had three of the 9 strings come off the zippers in my had. Luckily they were in my hand and I was able to re tie them, otherwise, operating the zippers would be very difficult as there is no other pull besides the string. I retied them and it hasn't been a problem since though.

All in all, I would say this backpack is amazing. I use it now to hold all my computer repair stuff when I do work on site. I would definitly, 100% recommend you buy this product if you are thinking about it. This is top quality and should last a very, very long time.

I finally decided that the idea of a "laptop" bag is obsolete, when I don't carry or need laptop padding (I use a sleeve, and don't always carry my laptop), so I picked one of these up at an AAFES store so far I am digging it! The black is 600 denier cordura vs. 1000 is fine for me (not like I'm going down range or anything, and I wouldn't feel right about carrying cammo). It's lighter and bigger than what I was carrying, and the shoulder straps are long enough to fit me (6-7, 275#). I also can see the zipper ties already coming off, but they are easy to re-tie, and it would be cool if there was a water bottle holder (or side mounting point for one)

Want Sandpiper of California Three Day Pass Backpack Discount?

This bag gets a 5-star rating for the roomyness and the fact it does not have a laptop slot in the main compartment. I bought this as a flight bag (pilot) for 1-3 day trips. The material is not quite as robust as I was expecting (I am used to Tumi and Victorinox ballistic nylon), but I also did not pay that price :)

I was also not entirely impressed with the zipper quality, but it is something I can live with. Already proven to be waterproof in a decent rain storm.

I can tell it will hold up for a while, but not sure I will get many years out of it. But, at $50, I am happy to buy another one when needed.
