Tenba ShootoutTM Backpack - Large Rolling

First of all, I bought this bag because the price was considerably below comperable rolling photo bags. I believe I paid a bit over $200, compared to over $300 for its competitors. It is a great bag, no doubt. When my gear is in it, I know that it's all well protected, from my Nikon D200 to my largest lens, a Tamron 200-500mm. There is room for my additional lenses, and all the rest of the stuff I drag around, except my tripod, which I put into my luggage when I travel. In fact, I bought it specifically for pulling around airports, because carrying all my photo gear was getting really old (maybe it's just me getting old....) Which leads to the issues:

1. As a carry-on, be warned. This will fit in the overhead bin, but ONLY if you open up the back where the backpack straps are stored, and lay it out flat. Otherwise, it just won't make it. It's a tight fit, but it's do-able. I've flown four times since I purchased this, so I know from experience. But, filled with gear, it's also too heavy, so I always have to rely on some strong man to do the man thing and get this sucker up there. Goddess forbid I'm told that I have to put it in with the luggage. I'd rather not fly.

2. The single post puller feels a bit weak, and it can tend to roll the bag if your not careful. It did roll a few times for me, but now that I know it has the tendency, I am careful going around corners, etc. As for being weak, it's really not, I don't think. It works, telescopes, etc. just fine. It's never felt like it was going to put loose or break.

3. The laptop slot is miserably tight. It invariably breaks my fingernails as I rush to remove the laptop when I'm at airport security. It's tight, but it protects the computer very well. In fact, there is room in the bag itself to keep the laptop necessities while traveling, including the power cord and the mouse.

4. For the life of me, I cannot imagine using this bag as a backpack. It's heavy in its own right. And, its big. In fact, I just may remove the backpack straps altogether, to avoid overhead storage issues. In fact, when I'm not traveling, it's a great storage device for gear that I'm not bringing with me on specific shoots.

Other than these four issues, it's a really nice bag. It's well built, and the zipper system is really nice. It has these rubber closures that fit well over the zipper as you zip it up. It's well padded. It's spacious. It's a nice bag. But, having said that, if I had an extra $200 on top of what this cost, I'd rather buy a Pelican or a Think Tank airline bag. As I said up front, it was a money issue. I'm not disappointed.

This is a well-engineered bag with a lot of flexibility built in. The laptop sits snugly and securely behind the handle plate mechanism so your back never makes contact with the lap top. The compartments offer a spacious configuration with very easy to access side compartments. The compartments come out in single removable shell, allowing you to convert this camera bag into an airline luggage bag in mere seconds. The construction is solid and the handle slides out with smooth precision.

The outer panel folds out to a handy tripod holder that permits you to carry small travel tripods to large tripods (like the Manfrottos). You can convert this roller bag into a hiking backpackby unzipping panel to reveal the straps. Tenba cleverly engineered this flap to cover the luggage wheels so it never soils your clothing then lugging the pack on your back. The lumbar padding is minimal. The backpack straps do have a waist strap and a chest strap for extended hiking.

There's an all weather wrap included in the pack. Also there's weather resistant zippers that seal the compartment against rain.

The case fits perfectly on the airline overhead compartment. Rolls nicely through airports.

A free CF card wallet with a tethered leash is provided on one of the side access pockets.

Overall, this bag gets high marks from me.

This product is an outstanding example of blending the two worlds of digital photography and digital imaging into one incredibly practical rolling unit that held everything I wanted to take to Mexico for taking and processing images. I can't tell you everything this backpack has or can do. It would take more than I wish to type. Suffice it to say that for both the professional and amateur photographer who wants a package that can hold it all (including laptop and all accessories), protect everything, take on or off the road and be incredibly accessible,this is the unit for you. Recently completed a "cruise tour" to Alaska. Wanting a larger bag to accomodate my gear, I settled upon Tenba's "Shootout" LARGE Rolling Backpack.

Other reveiws will give you the specs on this case. It is big. Very big. However, its design creates some limitations or room for improvement.

The bag is very well built. I carried two Canon DSLR bodies, a vertical control grip, four lenses (Tamron 28-300 "walkabout", Canon 100-400 L, 16-35L and a Sigma 150mm 2.8 macro), an EX 550 flash, 2x extender, a Wolverine 100gb storge unit and the usual accessories and cables. For computing, a HP 9000 series 17" notebook. All this tipped the scale at 43 lbs. Toss in the Manfrotto and its 48 back breaking pounds.

As the airlines are getting really fussy on what you can bring along, I wanted a bag to accomodate all my gear knowing upon arrival in hotels, onboard, etc. I could park gear not needed.

While the bag is as large as a weekender suitcase, it did fit in the overhead bin without having to open up and spread out the backpack harness. However, this was on a 737-400 series and no way it would fit in a regional carrier's overhead.

The "pouch" design for the tripod I found to be unique, but I opted to just strap it to the side of the bag and keep the pouch closed during airport/hotel/ship navigation. In the field it would probably work out just fine.

Although massive in size, the actual camera/equipment storage area was a bit dissapointing. The pockets are 5.5 inches deep. My 5d with vertical grip and tripod mount attached is 6 inches. The top of the bag will close, but the top of the camera pushes up hard against the padding creating an impact point. Removing the tripod mount, it's a nice snug fit. Take off the grip, and a good inch to spare.

The single pull handle feels a bit wobbly, but performs well. Extended, it curves forward an inch or so. Not much, but this allows the bag to remain more vertical when being pulled. Drawback: the more vertical the bag, the more it skips and twists. The lower you hold the handle, the more stable the bag is when being pulled. I'd suggest to Tenba to reverse the handle to tip it just a bit more forward to increase stability.

I couldn't get a straight answer from Tenba whether a HP 17" notebook would fit into the medium bag, so I opted for the large. The HP weighs a more than hefty 8 lbs. I didn't take into account, when closed, the rear side is larger than the front. Where an Apple is thin, the HP is thick and the fit is snug. Very snug. It did loosen up a bit after a few days. The pocket is deep enough for the HP AND the power supply. Just make sure to coil the cord around the PS to prevent direct contact. There's still enough room to stick a wallet inside.

The wheel assembly and notebook pocket take up half the 10-11 inch depth of the entire bag. Suggestion to Tenba: Use double frame rails and position the notebook pocket between them. Would give the unit a slightly wider and more stable wheelbase, great protection and provide about 3 more inches of depth inside the bag for gear. This allows more lenses to be carried on end vs. being laid flat.

For the little things, there is a flat storage compartment inside the lid. It's a flat pocket. Period. Good for things like manuals or anything also flat. There are a couple of elastic loops for a lens brush, etc. but the "peanut" shaped lid wraps down a bit so best for short items.

The included tethered cases, one for memory cards and one for a slim cellphone are great.

These are inside the two external accesible compartments on either side of the bag at the base. Very slick feature, you can keep your favorite smaller lens in the bottom of the bag and pull it out through the compartment. No need to open the bag to get to them. This is a great feature. These compartments are also great for storage of small items. However, in reach for a lens, you have to dig through and perhaps drop anything in the way. If you want to change lenses fast, almost a certainty you're better off keep the compartment empty.

Overall, the bag is very large and well built. Once I loaded it up and used the harness, I quickly realized how HEAVY it was, and how quickly I'd drop lugging it around.

Through the airport, to hotels, onboard ship....it's perfect being pulled around. To use in the field, take along just what you really need to keep the weight down. Or do like I did and bring along my photo vest for field work.

It's a good bag/backpack. Extremely well built and very underated. Balance out your need. If rolling capability isn't that important, go for the non rolling bag and pick up an external rolling setup.

After reading the reviews on Amazon and other sites I was very excited for the arrival of my Tenba Backpack. Then I saw it. Holy cow. I am 6'0" and weigh about 190lbs. Wearing this bag as a backpack looked ridiculous. Here are the reasons why I am sending this bag back:

1 Too big to be backpack. Simply not a useful way to carry it. The depth of the bag is 13 inches. It is like carrying a suitcase on your back.

2 Not enough space. I currently own a small Canon backpack and after transferring all of my gear into the Tenba, I only had room for a couple more lenses. What is unbelievable is that the Tenba is 3X the size of my Canon backpack.

3 Not enough pockets. I want to keep things organized and on my Canon backpack I have side pockets, two front pockets, and then inside I have the organizational compartments and two flat pocksts. The Tenba has fewer pockets. It is missing any usable front pockets which are what you need when you travel to stick in travel documents, a book, ipod, etc.

4 Pockets are tight. I was barely able to squeeze my 13" MacBook into the laptop compartment and I was unable to get a book in there as well. It was difficult to pull the laptop out again and would definitly struggle with it in the airport security line.

5 Zippers are tough to open. The zippers are cool since they completely seal, but they are not easy to open. Part of this is the path that they need to travel which is an S curve so you can't get any momentum.

6 Hard to get the handle out. The handle tucks away too nicely and like all of the other pockets, it is hard to pull it out when you need it, especially when the bag is packed full.

7 Waist Band not removeable. Since you are only going to want to use the backpack function is rare moments that it is too difficult to roll, you really don't need the THICK waist band. Unfortunately, once you access the shoulder straps the band flaps around and cannot be stowed away.

8 No side handle. Since this bag is basically a suitcase, I would expect to be able to grab it from both the top and the side. Unfortunately there are no handles on the sides.

9 Wasted space. I pulled out the entire organized camera compartment and removed the back cover. I got to a hidden section that has two thick pads and the bar for the pull handle. THIS IS WHERE THE SPACE WENT. This was about 2" wasted space along the entire length of the bag.

10 Main compartment too deep. Another place where space is lost is in the main compartment. When I put my SLR body in the bag there is still about 2" on top of it. Now am not going to put something on it or below it, so again this is wasted space. I found that in order to truly fill one of the slots I had to put multiple items on top of eachother.

Overall, the bag is cool and obviously a lot of thought has gone into it. But really they should ditch the whole backpack concept and just use the wheels. Also, I saw a bag that had a low profile options for the main section compartments. This allows you to lay your laptop on top of the gear.

It does a great job at protecting the laptop and it fits great. But I wouldn't recommend this color, I used it one day at school and it got so dirty! I've had other light cases before and handled them the same way but they didn't get as dirty as this case got in just ONE day! I would recommend this case to anyone but not this color, especially if you'll be handling it a lot.

I purchased this as a gift for my daughter's third birthday. She loves it! It has very vibrant colors. Pictures don't do it justice. When I opened the shipping box it came in, and saw the product, I thought it looked even nicer than it did online. It is a great size for a child at that age. It's not too big, but yet, it's still big enough to get quite a bit of use out of it while your child is growing. The only complaint I would have, is that it seems like the straps are not well-sewn onto the back pack itself. Hers are still intact (she's had it for about 4 weeks), but from the amount of stitching, I wonder how long the stitching will hold against wear and tear. This could be fixed easily if you're handy at sewing though. Overall, I like it and she loves it. This isn't something you can normally find in stores. So it was nice to receive something online that looked even better in person than how it was displayed online. Sometimes, online products can be deceiving, but this one was more than expected.

I bought a sling bag for my bike ride to and from work. It carried my uniform, wallet, keys, ipod, phone, and charger with no room for anything else. It may seem like a lot but it really isn't has lots of pockets but not very deep. After 3 days of use the carabiner broke, two days after that the stitching that held the elastic cord that sercured the webbing of the exterior pocket came loose making it useless. The straps also had a tendency to loosen as I rode. I really wanted to like this backpack but it continued to frustrate me and I ended up buying a different backpack.

I purchased the Everest Sporty Hydration Sling Bag for an upcoming trip to Disneyland. I wanted something lightweight, comfortable,sleek and minimalist and this big fits the bill perfectly. The hydration aspect of the bag was just an added bonus as days at Disneyland can be very long and hot. Keep in mind that the bag doesn't come with the bladder, but they can be found at most major retailers.

The bag is minimal in size but has enough room for all the essentials of the day. The look of the bag is fairly masculine (which I like) and is clearly military inspired. The M.O.L.L.E. system on the bag makes it very adaptable as accessories can be added as you see fit. The shoulder strap is comfortable and breathable and has a side release buckle for easy removal. I did have an issue with some stitching coming undone from the shoulder strap portion that is meant to secure the hose for the bladder, but there are several other straps remaining to secure it. The design of the shoulder strap allows you to only wear the pack over one shoulder and across your chest (meaning you can't switch shoulders) which may be a problem during extended use as far as comfort is concerned.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this pack and will edit this post after putting it through its paces at the happiest place on earth and let you know how it held up.

**After only a couple of days of light use, I would change my opinion and advise you not to buy this. The poor quality of this bag became very apparent as much of the stitching came undone, especially on the shoulder strap. The majority of the straps which are designed to retain the tube from your hydration bladder, completely came undone as all of their stitching pulled out. This bag may suit your needs but I see it ending up in my next garage sale.**

I have to admit that I'm writing this review and I've never used the product. It's been 50 years since I was in grade school. But, if giving this backpack as a gift to your 6 year old granddaughter and seeing the smile on her face and the twinkle in her eyes is worth anything, then I'd say this was a 5 star backpack.

She's had it now for about 2 weeks and has showed it off to all of her little friends at school. She's still thrilled with it, and has pointed out to her grandmother that all she needs now is the thermos that fits in the thermos bottle loops inside the pack. I didn't even know it had a place for a thermos.

Dakine 6.5-Litre Cosmo Pack

The reason why I bought this pack, was I wanted something small and light weight that I could easily take with me on an outing instead of my purse. This is exactly what I needed. It easily holds my 20oz Klean Kanteen, camera, phone and all my other purse items.

One of the reason I was a little weary of buying this pack was I wasn't sure exactly how the insides looked like and if it was big enough to fit my needs. I am happy that after buying it, it does in fact. But, I have added two pictures to show exactly what the insides look like since I couldn't find any online when I was purchasing.

The back opening has a little zip pouch for change or possibly personal stuff and an open area for water bottle, camera, etc. The front opening has three narrow pouches for pencils and pens, a larger pouch to the side with a zip mesh pouch on top of that. There is also a larger pouch behind all those possibly for small papers. There is also a zipped up area on the opposite side. So, there is plenty of places to put things.

The back doesn't have much padding so it is a bit bumpy to my back depending on what I put in it. But, that doesn't bother me. I am just glad to have this for use of hiking or going on a boat ride and now having to worry about all my stuff getting lost because it is on my back.

I LOVE this backpack, it is the perfect size for a small day use pack/purse. I plan on using it for a little of both. It is not large at all, do not think of this as a school backpack unless it is for a small child and all they are carrying is lunch and some extras, large books will not fit. Having said that, it will fit a full sized camera, along with a light jacket and water bottle, plus pockets for wallet, keys, phone and other goodies.

It's great for travel, very easy to carry, unlike a full sized backpack that would completely take up your whole lap or a seat, this is 1/3 the size. The colors are beautiful and the quality is very well made. No regrets.

Organizer in the front is good for cell phone and assorted stuff so that they don't get lost in the bag. Coomfortable. I love the colors because my other bag was pastel and got dirty noticeably for my husband to actually understand why I was washing it. The space is ample to carry my kindle, cell phone, garmin GPS plus car charger, wallet, 2 glasscases, with more room for pens, candy, misc. I use the outside carry strap for a caliper that carries my car and house keys. I am all set as if, and there is still room for more. Love the price and the quality is definitely there. I am not tall and so having an appropriately sized purse like this feels good. Also, have to add that I love having my hands free when I am in the grocery store and do not have to leave the purse in the cart. That stress is gone because of this backpack style purse.

Targus Legend IQ Laptop Backpack

I ordered this backpack specifically for a two week trip to Europe and upon arrival it was everything I wanted. A backpack small enough as a carry-on and large enough to fit necessary electronics and miscellaneous items. By this I mean lots of pockets, and this backpack has lots and lots of pockets. There's 16 pockets total, the main zip pocket has a padded sleeve for a laptop, small mp3 pouch, slip for a tablet/netbook, and extra space for misc. items. There's two side zip pocket, a sunglasses pocket, followed by three other zip pockets. The main bottom zip pocket has another zip pocket inside as well as six other pockets and a key chain hook. I was able to carry my laptop, kindle, camera, sunglasses, chargers, power adapters, usb cables, batteries, memory cards, etc. The backpack's shoulder strap was also thickly padded which didn't hurt my shoulders after extended use.

Unfortunately, there's one major flaw to the backpack and I had to find out the hard way. The extra sleeve to put your tablet/netbook (in my case my Kindle) in is Not Padded! I was carrying the backpack around in London for a week when I pulled out my kindle and found it to be broken. Apparently, sometime within the day I had put pressure to my backpack causing my kindle's screen to break, which I had no idea how it happened considering how I didn't do anything out of the ordinary. I was completely shocked and disappointed and miserable half the time without my kindle. This shouldn't have happened at all considering how the rest of the backpack was well thought out. I can't even imagine how someone would feel if their Ipad/Transformers/Kindle Fire were to break like my Kindle. This is not to say that the sleeve won't work, you just need to be very very careful and mindful of the backpack. For this alone I give the backpack 3 stars, but if you're a very careful person or won't use the tablet/netbook sleeve at all, then this backpack is great!

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) Targus makes great products, but this backpack is the ultimate in laptop/media carrying and storage. First it is completely comfortable with adjustable shoulder straps and a stiff cushioned back for comfort. Pockets? There are pockets galore! There is one on each side, four in the front (one of which has seven internal pockets with one being zippered and one for your memory card). Think about small electronics, cards, wallets, glasses, etc. anything small you need immediately can fit in here.

The inside can easily fit a thick 16" laptop (even in its carrying case) along with two other deep pockets for other valuables. On top of all that, you can place your iPod/iPhone in a pocket at the inside top of the backpack and plug it into a readily supplied wire that exits out the right shoulder pack strap. That's right; you just plug your ear buds into the shoulder strap! The other shoulder strap has a stretchable strap for your eyeglass/sunglasses. There are air vents throughout for good circulation.

The entire pack is made of black polyester and the zippers are tough plastic that won't bind or catch. This is perfect for the campus, work or travel (it will easily fit in an overhead compartment or under your seat). The pack sits upright to insure no damage to anything inside and the feel is light and comfy. Targus made a great pack this time and the price is perfect!

This bag is perfect for business as well as personal use. Pockets everywhere. Easy to use. Love the mp3 pocket. I fit my hp spectre xt 15, my ipad, kindle, nook, iPod, note pad and pens, all necessary cords, earphones and whatnot with no problem having to search. It's all just right there. And, I'm not done yet, there is still room in the main pouch for files, packages, I could go on forever, this is an awesome product. Even better than you'd usually expect from Targus. Never a dissapointment. Recommended to pros and ams.

Pros: well-made, inexpensive, stylish, not too bulky, plenty of compartments.

Cons: Padding for laptop and any additional peripherals at bottom of bag is minimal.

I supplemented the padding issue by purchasing a padded laptop sleeve from Swiss as well as a padded camera bag insert from Camaroo for the bottom of the bag.

The bag supports my Lenovo y580 15.6", Razer Nostromo, Razer mouse, Gamecom headset, and various wires and cables.

This backpack is not too large and is a great weight. It has a good amount of pockets but I am disappointed in the 2 lower outside pockets as seen in the ad photo. The ad photo shows double zippers on each of the 2 lower outer pouches. After receiving and using the backpack I noticed that there is only one edge to edge zipper for the 2 lower external pouches. That's not a deal breaker for me but I am very disappointed because I expected to be able to zip the external pockets as shown in the ad. Instead the one zipper closes all the way down at the opposite end of the bag so you need to make sure that the zipper is well closed before proceeding off with this backpack.

Other than the problem I notice with the zippers in the ad vs. the zipper on the bag I am satisfied, but not overly impressed, with the bag itself or the 2 gimmick items it includes. It is much easier to carry around than the last backpack for my laptop. There are enough pockets for most anything. Inside the bag there is just one large opening instead of 2 separately enclosed large compartments like other backpacks its size but that is what also helps lighten the load. If you can settle with a backpack with one large open section with one padded separator then you should be fine with this backpack. The amount of pouches for this backpack is good but I think that the inside holder for your music player and the external plug for the headphones on the shoulder straps are more of a gimmick than practical because I can't see someone easily accessing their music player once they set it up and put the backpack on. It also appears that the sunglass holder on the backpack sling is also gimmicky because there's no way I'll put my expensive sunglasses in that holder for fear of them being knocked off while I walk or it being damaged when I remove the backpack or bump into something. I keep my shades in a case in the lower side zippered pocket instead and keep my music player clipped to my waist or in a front shirt pocket where I can reach it.

I feel this is a good backpack but nothing special or out of the ordinary and feel that the sunglass holder, music player holder and earphone jack are gimmicks to sell this pack but are not really practical to use, although there are some people who may find these gimmicks handy. I also wish it had double zippers for every opening like most other backpacks. There is only one double zipper and that's for the largest opening for the bag. As others have noted it can use much more padding or at least a solid bottom to the backpack.

I've been a commuter for about 10 years now, and this is my favorite of the 4 bags I've gone through. I've used it about 5 times/week for at least 4 months. It's extremely comfortable I've had almost no problems with it at all, no matter what I carry it it which is much appreciated. The back area is well padded and breathable. It has a mesh back on the pad that keeps my back from getting as sweaty as some that just have the nylon directly against your back. The shoulder straps are perfect. There is a side slit to access stuff a bit more easily. I really appreciate the safety stripe and bright color I mainly wear dark clothes, so it's nice to not have to worry about that with this pack. As much as I love black and olive green, it's nice to have an orange pack with a reflective stripe every day at both rush hours. I've not had to weather any huge storms since we're in the middle of a drought, but it's gotten me through two light storms with perfect dryness. It's go an outer pocket that you can carry a jacket in, some waterproof pockets that are smaller, great reflective straps and a flap that's big enough to cover the whole thing. The closure velcros shut and folds over under the flap for extra protection and security. Like I said, this is my favorite pack so far. My only suggestions the inside lining is black, which makes it harder to find stuff when I'm changing in the dark-ass closet in my office. I'd like a ligher colored lining, like yellow. I'd like more inner pockets, which I suppose I could add. The handle on top is awesome, but if I forget to fold it down into the window, it rubs on my neck the whole ride. But, compared to all my other packs, this is FAR beyond good. Each pack has a serial number too, so you can register them and get a follow up if you ever have any problem. I'd probably give this a 4.5, or 95%, but I'm the only review, and really want to stress how much I love this pack. VERY high quality.

My son is really, really into Doctor Who. He was thrilled to be able to get an 11th Doctor backpack for school this year. Unfortunately, this backpack is very small. My son is in first grade; he has only a notebook-size school agenda and a lunch box. If he has a lunch that includes a thermos or large bowl, I have to squish the lunchbag into the backpack. This is too small for an older child. However, it would be perfect for a preschooler or even as a toy-tote for non-school use. We are not dissatisfied overall, I just wish the product detail on the selling page had given a clearer indication of size (even listing the dimensions would work). Of course, the standard Doctor Who response is: It's bigger on the inside! This backpack is not :-(

Perfect for what I needed it for. I can never keep a purse for long they always tear of a strap breaks or something happens to them because they can't hold up with all of my use. On top of that I need something that if it weighs more than 5 pounds it break. "When I go anywhere instead of packing another bag I just stuff everything in my purse; I end up with 2 novels and anything else I need at any given time in my purse." This bag is perfect for me, it is small enough that i can fit it in my TINY locker at work but still big enough that I can fit everything I need. "including a small first aid kit."

The picture is really awesome and I've had it for nearly a month and a half without any negative where on the bag. I always get complemented on it everywhere I go. Measuring it out in in I'm showing about 9 wide by 12 tall; or if you use cm I'm showing 23 wide by 30 tall about. Also the straps have very cool Velcro on the bottom so if something happens you can always untangle yourself that way.

For a backpack this is very small and should definitely not if you are in middle or high school where you have to carry your books to and from school. In high school this definitely wouldn't have worked for me because it may fit one big text book but that is all. "Of course My backpack back in high school needed to be bucked up or else the car would think someone was sitting in the passenger seat not buckled up.... about 50 pounds"

I am very small boned so the straps fit over my shoulders but if you are at all bigger I can't suggest this for you. The only reason I am not just using a huge purse is because I have always connected those with older people or mothers but really that is just something I have always thought.

As stated, this backpack is on the small side, but will work nicely for kindergarten. I'm not sure it will fit a standard size folder, but is perfect for a composition (marble) notebook and other supplies. The backpack arrived well ahead of the scheduled date which is wonderful. The tag on this bag claims it will carry most 17 inch laptops, but I could just barely squeeze my 15.6 inch (very thin) Zenbook into it and once inside it was very difficult to remove. If the top opening was as wide as the base of the bag, it would have easily fit. The material was also very thin and offered little padding/protection. And somehow it was much larger than expected, which made it even more frustrating that my ultrabook style laptop wouldn't fit!

Great product because it is what I expected! It is bigger than I first thought but that's not a bad thing. It just means it can hold everything I need plus more!

I have no complaints about my bag as it is, though a handle on the top would be nice in addition to the shoulder strap.

It's beautiful, it's durable, Dakine is a very solid brand in my experience. I have three or four different kinds of bags from them.

One front smaller pocket which zips closed for smaller items, about 13" across, 9" tall and 1.25 inches deep. Pretty standard stuff. Lovely dark maroon color inside. I would call the large section of the bag 3" deep, not 2.5.

In the large pocket of the bag there is one bigger area for your stuff, and a padded section for a laptop but NOT a 17" as it says.

I have a 17.3" HP and the bag is nowhere near wide enough to fit it in. If you lay the bag flat you'll see it is 17" at its widest point, but it comes inward slightly at the top. I couldn't fit my friend's 16" easily either. Way too snug.

I decided to keep it and use it for other things, but I will still need to go get yet another item that will fit my laptop.

Well at first when I got it I was worried it wasn't actually gonna fit my 17" macbook pro. I couldn't get it into the bag, but on second try I managed to get it settled into the little compartment and now I sort of love that it's not any bigger. It makes it as small as possible while still being able to carry around my laptop.

The one thing I might say I don't like is the fact that the inside is neon green. Other than that I have no negatives to say about it.

I really like this laptop bag. The coloring is brilliant, it's not faded or dull like I had worried it might be, it's really crisp & clear. It's very spacious(sp?)inside just like I had hoped. I really adore this bag & I can't wait to use it with my new laptop. My only concern is there isn't a lot of padding where the laptop goes & I would prefer just a little more padding in that area. I'm sure I can compensate for that somehow but otherwise, I think it's a great product.

I recently purchased this bag and was very pleased with the quality, styling and price. I did a lot of online research to replace a TUMI bag I had used for years at work. After getting tired of finding the same bland and boring black nylon messenger bag, I stumbled across Knomo in a magazine article. The quality is very good with detailed/contrasting stitching, fine leather exterior, padded orange interior with multiple size compartments for just about everything. The nickel ends to the shoulder straps are nicely finished and look very modern and durable. I am certain this bag will last me for years to come! The Amazon price is also a lot less than other sites I searched. If you are looking for a simple, modern and elegant bag I would definitely recommend the Kobe Messenger Bag by Knomo!

I purchased a very similar bag from Knomo and really liked it when I got it, BUT when the seam which holds the shoulder strap on one side split wide open, and I called and sent pictures to Knomo, they were completely unapologetic and unhelpful.

If you can afford to buy a new $300+ bag every 2 years, then this is the bag for you. Other interior pocket seams have also came apart, so this was not just a single bad stitch.

If you expect such a bag to last you for years of good use, you will be sorely disappointed.

I've been using the Kobe Messenger bag for the last couple of months and so far it's everything I was looking for.

It's the perfect size and made with amazing quality and detail. The leather is very soft and the cushiony interior holds my T400 laptop securely. Unlike the previous reviewer my interior is green and not orange.

I used to carry around a backpack and can carry almost everything that I used to. I am looking for a water bottle that will fit in this bag and it would complete everything I need when I go out.

I thought the bag was great when I got it a few weeks ago. I used it lightly everyday however a few days ago one of the so-called metal ends just broke in half. I am not joking.

I am very familar with metal and it will stretch or deform however this when looked at closer looks like some type of other material. I don't think plastic.

If it is metal then the end pieces supporting the shoulder strap are extremely brittle showing pour quality and cheaper manufacturing which should not be in a bag that costs anywhere near this amount.

I have an old Samsonite backpack which is very comfortable and I was looking for a new backpack which had a similar level of padding and comfort. I tried the highly rated Samsonite tectonic and the Swissgear 1592 but found them not as comfortable on my back as my old Samsonite. Then still searching, I found the Asolo switch which had pretty much the padding in the back I was looking for, and turned out to be the most comfortable of the 3 packs I tried. I also liked the fleece lined electronics pocket as well as the water resistant section that can be used for wet/ or to protect dry items. Something I thought I would remove and never use when I first got it was the raincover that folds out of a zippered pocket on the bottom of the pack. However, the first time I was in a heavy rain I used it and it was great having it; a feature I now wish I would have had in previous backpacks. The only negative which is minor is the small leatherette or vinyl triangles that have cords coming out of them on the front of the bag seem to scuff easily and get faint white markings on them. Otherwise I am very satisfied with this purchase.

I've had this backpack in everyday use in Vancouver, BC for almost two years now and have zero complaints. It's comfortable, durable, light and most of all, the attached rain cover is FANTASTIC!!! I cycle in the rain quite often and with the rain cover on, everything inside stays dry. Every backpack should have this option.

Since it's not mentioned in the product description, the rain-cover is located in a small zippered pouch in the bottom of the pack. The cover is large enough to cover the entire bag (full of stuff too) just exposing the straps when pulled out. It also has an elastic edging to keep it snug. The cover can then be 'stuffed' into this pouch when not in use.

Shinza Zeroshock III 15-inch Widescreen Notebook Case

Zeroshock III 15-inch Widescreen Notebook CaseThis is the case my son wanted for his Macbook Pro. It is far less expensive than another I had steered him toward.

And, it clear why this is so.

It's really a "sleeve", not a case. I would only use this sleeve along with real padded case, or for temporary storage on a table or a desk.

The foam is a very thin and compressible layer, albeit eggshell waffled/patterned, and the bottom edge of the case has no foam protection at all, just plastic.

The protection this case affords is probably against slight knocks and rubbing which might mar a laptop. I don't believe that this sleeve would ever protect a laptop in an actual drop unless one were very fortunate.

The sleeve is entirely flexible and penetrable so nothing to protect it from being dangerously flexed or punctured if in a poorly padded backpack or dropped.

A Macbook Pro, 2012 model, does not fit well. It slides about as another reviewer indicated. A larger 15" laptop might fit better.

Compare, for example, a Mach 3 Composites carbon fiber case. Or a Moshi Codex. They are more expensive but you get what you pay for.

For the price I paid, $24, it's a nice enough sleeve, not "case", and the orange will make it very easy to find. But for thorough protection, I do not feel that it is adequate protection for an expensive laptop by itself.

Tried with both my older Macbook Pro 15" and the newer Unibody one, it has a few (~5) cm extra space with both, causing them to slide around considerably. If it were a little smaller/tighter, it'd be perfect. As it is, it allows the laptop way too much movement/sliding. On the plus side, it seems to be impact and water-resistant, for the occasional drizzle/splash, which is nice, but I wouldn't carry it around further without sticking it in an additional "laptop compartment" type bag. Due to its size, and texture (as well as the sliding problem mentioned above,) it's very difficult to carry without an extra bag/case to hold it in. By comparison, the older Brenthaven case I had fit like a glove and seemed to offer much better movement protection as a result of this, despite lacking the "memory foam" of this case. Too bad, since this case is so stylish and otherwise well-designed. Why ZS chose to not fit it to the Macbook Pro better is just odd and annoying. The outer pocket is also mostly useless except perhaps for a few sheets of paper, or occasionally cramming the AC adapter in, though there's no padding between the pocket and main case, so putting the heavy, angular AC brick in there negates much of the protection.

This case is thin, lightweight, and durable. I use it for my 15'' Macbook Pro, and it's kept the computer safe for nearly a year! What makes this case stand out from other sleeves (ex. neoprene or fabric) is the tough foam waves that line its inside. These waves seem to absorb shock and minimize movement. The case itself is very sturdy-when it opens, the flaps don't flop over. They stay straight. This is really more of a shell than a sleeve, but it's flexible and light.

I'm very satisfied with this, and will definitely purchase this again. My only issue is that orange does get dirty rather quickly, and it's extremely difficult to wash. I'll probably go with black next time.

I guess depending on your 'philosophy' on sleeves, you'll figure out whether this is the right choice for you or not. Do you think hard is better, or do you prefer thick and spongy? I went for the hard as I'll be carrying it inside a courier bag most of the time. To be honest, I don't know if the perfect sleeve does exist, one that is lightweight and offers 100% resistance to breakage. Anyhow I digress visually this sleeve looks great, but I couldn't care less about appearances: I just want straight protection for my laptop. This sleeve seems to do the job and while admittedly it's not getting tested due to a lack of big knocks, I really hope I never have to find out what its limitations are.

this bag is just simply great. I got mine gently used but its absolutely perfect. I have an almost 2 year old and a LO on the way and this bag will be my diaper bag for both. There are several pockets on the inside to organize babys stuff and one pocket on the outside to keep your phone or something handy. This is a very good bag. I travel a lot and it fits well into overhead bins on planes. International travel has not been a problem for carry on. I like the carrying handles and the backpack straps tuck away nicely into the back while traveling. It's not tall enough to sit on my hips for serious backpacking, but if it were, it wouldn't be accepted as carry on for some flights. All in all a versatile and tough bag for carrying my 2 Canon bodies, 16-35, 24-70, 70-200mm lenses and other miscellaneous gear. If you fly KLM, be extra careful about the weight of the bag. KLM weighed everyone's carry on with a small scale just before I got on the flight. I was barely under the limit. Check the airlines carry on weight limits for any flight you take. Pants/clothes with big and plentiful pockets are helpful.

I received the Gura Gear Kiboko backpack 5 days after I ordered it. Both my wife and I were impressed from the moment it was removed from the shipping package. This backpack is extremely well constructed, including the material, the zippers, zipper pulls, and the layout. It has adjustable/removable partitions that hold firmly. It arrived the day before we went on our vacation, so I used it to pack the 15" laptop computer, DSLR camera, two lens, GPS unit, battery chargers, and a couple of other accessories. This Gura Gear unit surely packed up nicely, with each item quite easily accessible using the various zipped compartments and the partitioned areas. A note for travelers--this backpack is airplane compatible. It fit nicely in the overhead storage compartment.

Another important issue is comfort. Even with all the stuff I packed, it was still comfortable. It rode nicely on my back and the weight was also partially supported right below the small of my back. The wide straps were also convenient and comfortable. I would buy this item again and would also recommend it to my friends who want a quality backpack.

Once again Skip Hop impresses me. Quality construction and adorable designs. I bought these for my 18 month old and they were a little big, but in a few months they fit just fine. We have used these for about 6 months now and they still look new. No loose threads, even the decorative zipper pulls are still in one piece. The insulation lining in the lunch box isn't particularly thick, but it still seems to keep things cold until lunch time. Definitely worth paying a little more for such good quality and design.

JanSport Wheeled Superbreak Backpack

I bought this for myself because I travel a lot and I wanted a carry on that my laptop would fit in and I didn't have to hand-carry. Laptop cases are very heavy after being carried for a while. I just used this on a recent trip and liked it very much. The wheels roll nicely and the handle is long (I'm 5'9" and had no problem with the height) and feels sturdy. I gave it 4 start for two reasons. The first reason being when I had the laptop in the bag, and placed other things in the bag, the laptop was difficult to retrieve and place back in. The flap with the zipper in it seemed like it was in the way, and the back of the bag is so hard. The other thing I found unfavorable is that I noticed a lot of hair got stuck in the wheels, which is really gross. I have traveled with many different suitcases and bags and I've never had hair get stuck in wheels before.

Other than that, it's a really good sturdy bag and I will keep using it for my trips.

It is all what I have expected.

The wheel are real good ones (like real rollers) and not the common shitty plastic.

The space works perfectly fine.

The only downside I see is that it is a little heavy for a little girl.

Gift for my ten year old granddaughter. It's heavier than it looks except for the handle mechanism where Jansport decided to cut some corners. It failed at seven weeks. Have been able to fix it twice hoping to get through one semester before we have to pitch it.

For those interested, the handle uses a "compression friction" fitting to secure it into it's sleeve. Apparently, it can under some circumstances, just release and slide out. My granddaughter can now manipulate to reattach it until next time.
