Royce Leather Laptop Backpack

I shopped for a long time before I chose this laptop backpack. I needed a big backpack and this one is big. I often have to carry two laptops and this backpack has enough room for both of them and the other stuff that has to travel with them. It is comfortable to carry and it does not slip off my shoulder when I am carrying it with one strap. The leather and the construction seem to be good so I think it will last for a long time. I also like that it has a drink pocket. I frequently carry a thermos of coffee. (I didn't think I'd use it before I bought the backpack but I use it all the time now.)

Eagle Creek Travel Gear Id Zipper Pull Set (Lime)

For whatever reason, my TravelPro suitcase zipper pulls always break. They appear to get metal fatigue and break apart. Sadly TravelPro doesn't cover this under warranty so what to do? I tried these and they worked great!

They do three things that are super useful: 1) they are super easy to attach, 2) they don't come loose from the zipper (other ones I have tried do pull loose), and 3) a bonus I didn't expect -they are colored so I can easily identify my suitcase!

I highly recommend these if you need a zipper pull!

Jeep Backpack Harness, Puppy

bought this leash for my son and for the most part worked great until he would turn around. more often then not the leash would rap around his neck, disturbing. i bought a different one that has the leash on the bottom instead of top.

I originally didn't want to put my son on a leash... But he is a wild one! I have an 18 months old who prefers to walk around on his own. (strollers are out of the question). For two months, I have been allowing him to walk around while holding my hand, however recently he has gotten very good at wriggling his hand and wrist to get free from mine. The solution? He now gets to where this harness whenever we go out to the mall or disney (which we visit fairly often). He liked that it was a puppy, and it seems he is perfectly comfortable wearing it, however the fact he was on a leash took him some getting used to (he kept running as fast and far as he could causing himself to jerk back and fall... he is an oddball, and found this funny. After several outings he has finally gotten used to the limited length of the leash, and is attempting to wander off less! My only complaint is I wish the leash and clip that attaches it to the puppy back pack where a little stronger and more durable. It has held up fine thus far, but i am not sure how long it will last against this boy! The price, however, is low enough that I would not complain if i had to replace it after a few months of agressive, heavy use. Overall this was a great buy to keep my little guy happy and safe.

This puppy backpack harness is super cute and huggably soft. We first introduced it to our daughter as a doll and she would hug it and pat it because it was so soft. Then when she started to walk, she was thrilled to bring her favorite puppy dog along. Great idea and great execution. The "leash" part is also plush, which is nice. It tucks into the backpack when not in use. I wish it was a little bit longer, though (it's about 4 ft long I would guestimate). Backpack straps are adjustable, though maybe too easily. The only negative is that the shoulder straps are not plush and can irritate my daughter's neck. Luckily we started using it during winter so usually she has a sweater or a jacket on. Other than that minor complaint, we use it all the time and always get compliments about it. Most importantly, my daughter loves it and likes wearing it when we are out.

This is a very cute way to keep track of my two year old. We just got it today. However, I am very disappointed to see that the front clasp on the harness doesnt stay closed. I dont know if this is faulty craftmanship or what but not happy that now I have to go through the trouble and mail it back.

Update: after spending 10.70 to return the faulty item priority mail I received another one as requested. The one that was sent to me has a clasp that has the same piece on each side. It is impossible to close. I dont know where this seller got their product but this is ridiculous. I wont purchase from them again.

Case Logic Security Friendly Laptop Backpack

This is my second Case Logic "security friendly" piece of luggage, and like the CLCS-116 over-the-shoulder messenger type bag, the CLBS-116 backpack has a lot of nice features but seems to be missing a lot of the every day features you expect with most laptop bags.

Of the many laptop backpacks I've owned, the OGIO Metro Backpack and discontinued Samsonite Rafter are my top two favorite, so I use them as a baseline for comparison purposes. Compared to those two bags, this Case Logic is firmly planted on the "Spartan" side of the fence. It's very low on features, but what it does, it does well. Most of what I said in my Case Logic 16-Inch Full-Size Security Friendly Laptop Case (CLCS-116) can be repeated here for much of the pro's and con's carry through to this backpack model with a few changes.

Pros:

Non-laptop half of the bag has lots of good segmented and non-segmented compartments. Good for holding gadgets like Blackberries, phones, MP3 players, power cords, pens, books, etc...

Small semi-hidden "wallet" hole for hiding cash.

Zipper sliders are metal, not plastic (a big plus in my book). Zipper teeth are mostly plastic with the exception of the front zipper which is metal. All zippers on my bag pulled nice and smooth.

Holds my 15.4" laptop like a champ lots of padding, plenty of room.

Put my Inspiron 1720 17" laptop in, just to see if it'd fit. "Kind of" would be a good description the laptop fit, but only because I removed the battery (Dell laptops have gone to a configuration where the battery hangs off the back end). The 17" laptop is pushing at the seams of the compartment, so not a whole lot of padding left at the sides. Not bad for a backpack that advertises itself as a 16" laptop backpack.

Secondary "stuff" pocket is full sized, extending wide enough to hold a hefty 3-4" phonebook-sized item.

Relatively light for a backpack at 3lbs.

Nice "pass-through" feature which lets you thread the pull bar of rolling luggage through allowing for piggy-backing of the pack.

Cons:

No headphones hole thought that was odd for Case Logic.

Very little padding in non-laptop half of the case careful with your gadgets!

No side pockets, mostly because you have to open it up for the security screening.

Not a whole lot of extension allowance if your items don't fit, they won't fit. The stitch is stiff nylon so there's not a lot of give.

The straps are attached by way of two Z-stitches at the top and a double-stitch to an extension at the bottom if you overload your backpacks a lot like I do, these stitches probably won't last very long. However if you're just hauling a laptop, a book, and a few gadgets, this should last a lifetime.

Conclusion:

Since this backpack is a "Generation 1" of these security bags, I'm hoping that the future will bring more cost-effective and feature rich bags. The cost itself is probably prohibitive enough to bring this backpack out of the reach of most students, and honestly if the only benefit that you're getting is that you don't have to put the laptop in the scanning device, it's probably not enough for most people to purchase this backpack. However if you're the consultant type who takes semi-daily business trips, being able to fly through the security checkpoint with just your backpack and shoes removed is probably enough of an incentive to grab this bag. Plus the design is clean enough to look professional.

The only problem I have with this backpack is that it is a little dorky looking. Very plain looking, all black with matte silver zippers. Other then that, this is a great backpack!

As someone who lugs around a decent sized widescreen laptop, this is exactly the kind of laptop you would like to have. The rear portion of the backpack contains a padded area for you to store your laptop. Padded as to not damage the computer and to not cause you any discomfort also the lining of this pocket is soft as to not scratch any of the surfaces of your laptop.

The bag features a zipper that basically allows you to split the backpack in half and lay it down flat for scanning through the x-ray machine at airports. This of course is nice since you aren't pulling out your laptop and tossing it in one of those dirty gray bins and getting it scratched, etc..

The front half of the bag contains three other pockets, a smaller one on the front, a slightly larger one behind that which contains smaller pockets for pens, business cards and other small items, then you have one larger pocket which has room for things like power adapters, Cd's, etc..

A couple of other nice features:

The bag is designed to hold it's shape and stand up right when set down. The shoulder straps are padded and curved, making them very easy and comfortable to use. And a nice little touch the adjustable straps that normally dangle after you adjust them, these straps have nifty little Velcro pieces that allow you to roll them up and keep them from getting dirty when you have the bag on the ground or getting caught on stuff as you walk around.

Suffice to say, the bag may not be the coolest looking backpack out there, but you can tell that a lot of thought was put into it design, the designers remembered the little things that annoy you about backpacks that you wished you could fix. Glad I have it!

Caselogic's 16-Inch Security Friendly Laptop Backpack is a handsome-looking, sturdily built backpack that is designed for maximum convenience in and out of the airport, with a layout that is smart, efficient and accessible.

If I have one caveat with this backpack, it is that it cannot handle much weight before it inadvertently unzips down the middle, causing the backpack to split into two loosely-hanging sections that constantly swing apart from each other. This fast becomes extremely annoying; as a result, if you are going to be using this bag as something other than a laptop backpack or if you tend to travel heavy, I'd recommend you look elsewhere. However, if you tend to travel lightly, this is worth picking up... especially at Amazon.com's current price point.

I regularly travel by airplane and I'm a student, so I decided to try the Case Logic security friendly laptop backpack. According to Case Logic, this backpack will get a person through security checkpoints quickly while fully protecting the laptop and sensitive documents. When approaching an X-ray machine, just unzip and lay flat on the conveyer belt. At the other end, just lift the handle and go.

On my most recent trip, I packed the bag with a 15.4" Dell Latitude D800, a couple school books, some papers, the usual laptop stuff, and some other junk; all together the bag weighed about 20 pounds. I also travel with a Tamrac Expedition 5 backpack containing a digital SLR, several lenses, filters and more resulting with a bag weighing about 20 pounds as well. Considering these two bags weigh the same, the camera bag with its waist strap and shoulder strap connector over the chest feels much lighter on the shoulders. The additional straps distribute the weight better, but would slow down the removal process. However Case Logic's luggage strap allows for carrying the backpack on your suitcase while strapped to the handle.

A lot of thought went into the construction and organizational properties of this laptop backpack Even though Case Logic indicates the plush laptop compartment will hold a 16" laptop, I was able to pack a 17" HP G70-246US comfortably without any zipper closure fuss; although the top corners could be identified. For screening purposes, nothing but the laptop should be stored in this section. The main storage area has a couple pockets to stash the cord and other accessories while allowing plenty of room for books and papers. The front compartment provides many pockets for organizing and includes a clip to hold a key ring. Plus a hidden passport storage compartment is placed between the two zippered halves.

The pre-screening security officer busily warned people to pull out their laptops, but I ignored him. I took the bag off my back, unzipped the two center zippers and laid the properly packed bag out flat on the conveyor belt. The bag passed inspection without any issues. On the other end, I grabbed the main handle and the bag went naturally back together for zipping even though I chose to do so later. Keep in mind, Case Logic warns "It is up to the discretion of the US Transportation Security Officer whether a laptop sleeve can pass without further screening." This by far was the easiest experience passing a laptop through security I can recall.

If you're looking for a laptop bag for traveling which can get you through security check points quickly and hassle free, strongly consider the Case Logic security friendly laptop backpack. The executive on the go would benefit the most, but even the occasional traveler could make use of this sturdy and effective laptop bag. Plus this bag is backed by a 25 year warranty.

I travel frequently, but hate carrying my heavy laptop in a messenger bag, but don't like carrying a laptop-only bag. And then there's the "take it all out" routine at airport security which is awkward with any bag.

This bag is the first one I've found that finally addresses all of those issues. It's reinforced to carry laptops (unlike the messenger bag). It has room to carry other items, so it can be my "personal-item" airline carry-on (unlike the laptop bag). And with its split zippered TSA-approved design, my laptop stayed in the bag after going through security four times so far (3 different airports).

The pack is also unobtrusive in urban life (doesn't scream "I'm carrying a computer!!" like a laptop case does), and has some hipster-chicness; at least I didn't feel too silly-looking carrying this in various cities. Loaded up, it is a bit bulky and I've bumped people when wearing it, but that goes with the territory of a backpack.

I was able to carry my computer, various laptop accessories, papers, a DSLR, an extra SLR lens, a bottle of water, and some random bits of food without the bag feeling over-full.

This backpack addresses most of my concerns with the similar briefcase Caselogic product Case Logic 16-Inch Full-Size Security Friendly Laptop Case (CLCS-116) (that one had limited capacity, was awkward to carry full, and had less useful compartments).

Quibbles: The strap buckles could be redesigned to not move as readily -I found with frequent use they often slipped to the longest position.

I use this bag every time I travel, and around town too. Highly recommended.

I was trying to find this bag for my sister and was surprised there were no other reviews on it--so I'll write as detailed of one as I can!

I have owned this diaper bag (and used it daily!) for about 10 months now and it truly looks as good as new yet. It's the 5th diaper bag I've owned and by far my favorite. I absolutely LOVE all the pockets on the outside...most of my others have pockets on the inside, and 1-2 zippered pockets on the outside along with some bottle pockets on the sides, but I've never been able to make that work. If you stuff the pockets on the inside, there really isn't any room for anything in the main compartment of the bag, yet most of the pockets aren't big enough to hold everything I want them to inside. This bag, however, has TEN pockets on the outside, which is awesome when you're holding a crying baby and trying to find/reach what you're looking for. I keep things like my nursing cover, burp cloths, Kleenix, wipes, snack bars (for my preschooler), etc. in those outside pockets---things you want handy the instant the baby spits up all over! I don't use the bottle holders on the sides for bottles, though they're much roomier than most...they're so big, actually, that they're great for rash cream, nose bulbs, medicine, etc. I cloth diaper and this leaves plenty of room inside the main compartment for our diapers, wetbags, etc.

Some basic info about the bag: Their website says it measures 22x14x4.5. I don't get that when I measure it--more like 17x14x4.5. It weighs about 2.4 lbs empty, which seems pretty standard. It's really heavy-duty canvas-like fabric; like I said--ours still looks brand new.

The Pockets: When you look at the pic, ALL of those pockets run from where you can see the trim to basically the bottom of the bag...so those two on top are DEEP pockets, then they obviously get more shallow as you go down. They're all pretty flat, but I've stuffed them with quite a bit and it's never caused the bag to tip over. The middle line of pockets is actually one big pocket all the way across that can be closed in the middle with velcro...so if you have something wider/need to stuff it more, there's plenty of room there.

There is also a large (basically the size of the bag) pocket on the back that again, has a small velcro closure at the top...that's where I keep the (included) changing pad and an extra receiving blanket. There are also 6 pockets inside the bag with elastic openings.

There is a strap system on the back designed to hold the diaper bag tight to a stroller so that you aren't banging into it while you push your stroller...though I never take the time to use them, the strap is long enough that I always just throw it over the handle and go.

It does have metal stops on the bottom corners to keep the bottom of the bag from sitting directly on the ground.

The strap is adjustable via a belt-like buckle system...I'm 6'0" and I carry it on my shoulder on the 2nd-to-last setting. It doesn't have a separate pad on it but it's a thicker strap with rounded edges that "sticks" pretty well to your clothing, and doesn't feel uncomfortable at all like a cheap shoulder strap. I have never felt like it's dug into my shoulder at all, even fully loaded.

The only negative I can come up with is I wish the zipper in the middle was a tad bit more durable feeling/smoother. I've definitely had worse, and it's held up really well to 10 months of use, with no signs of weakening, so it's really just me being super picky.

Hope this helps someone! I can't believe these aren't more popular, though I do know they are pretty hard to find. I just happened to find this one on sale at a local cloth diaper store where I had some credit I needed to use up! Don't hesitate to buy this bag! (especially if you're an organization freak like I am, lol)

Oh--and hubby loves it too because it doesn't look girly and he always knows where to find stuff in it!

This is my second Booq backpack. 1st Booq I purchased was is Jan 2005 and I can tell you I "put it through the ringer". It carried a 15inch HP laptop and books daily, it has been washed (I put it in a pillow case and threw it in the washer), dried in the dryer, thrown, tossed, yanked, to the beach, to school, to work, snowboarding, camping, hiking, climbing, everywhere in between and today it does not have a single loose thread, tear, flaw or nothing. Booq is the toughest bag I've ever seen and I have torn up quite a few that just couldn't keep up with me (all were $100plus backpacks -these were great bags, but didn't last long). My 1st booq backpack went to a friend who got my old hp laptop as well and I searched for only a week or two for a replacement before I decided to just spend the extra for a new Booq.

Ok, Python backpack details...

Unique, sophisticated look, (the picture is accurate), superb quality, smart design, excellent protection for all of my stuff not just my laptop, strength and comfort thats not too big and not too small.

Laptop compartment contains a built in padded laptop sleeve. There is additional room and document pockets in the laptop compartment. The BUILT-IN LAPTOP SLEEVE will NOT hold a laptop larger than 1.5" x 10.5" x 16". (Note-when measuring include the "feet" on your laptop as they add to thickness) If you measure your laptop, add the width plus thickness and if it is greater than 12 inches, (ie 1.5 + 10.5 = 12) , it will NOT fit in the sleeve. If your laptop is longer than 16.2 inches, it will not zip closed.

HP DV7 17.3" widescreen laptop measures 1.7 inches thick x 10.9 inches wide x 16.2 inches long. It does NOT fit in the sleeve, but it does BARELY fit in the laptop compartment.

ACER aspire 15.4" widescreen laptop measures 1.7" thick x 10.8" width x 14.4" long, fits well IN THE LAPTOP COMPARTMENT, but NOT THE built in sleeve (because the width 10.8" + thickness 1.7" = 12.5" exceeds 12 inches).

Top pocket/compartment that the description image shows a "camera compartment", is my favorite pocket/compartment (It's brilliant). It is 10 inches wide x 6 inches tall x 5.5 inches front to back depth. It has a padded seperator that is adjustable (uses strong velcro for positioning) or can be completely removed. Being 6 inches tall/deep means I dodn't have "fish" in the entire depth of the bag to find something. It's great to keep my phone and mentos in there because it's easy to grab em. The construction of the entire bag is excellent and I really like that it holds it's shape. It also will better protect my stuff from bumps to the bag as it is slightly rigid.

The front lower compartment measures 10 inches tall x 10 inches wide x 5.5 inches back to front depth. A padded rigid seperator inside divides the bottem compartment from the top pocket/compartment.

Left and right Side pockets measure 11 inches in length x 5.5 inches wide x approximately 1 inch thickness when zipped close. Iniside these side pockets are padded spandex/neoprene type pockets to snuggly hold your stuff. There is also a key ring snap lock that snaps to the bag inside the left side pocket. It's a groovy feature so you don't lose your keys.

So there are 5 main pockets/compartments and all of them have "organizer pockets" within them. The back is extremely well padded and loaded down still feels comfortable with the weight feeling distributed evenly. I like to throw one side on one shoulder and be on my way, this backpack is very comfortable for doing that. The shoulder straps are also very well padded and they stay where I want them to (I like that). There are 2 snap closure straps that you can snap closed (front chest area and the waist) that secure the backpack even more when it's on your back and they are quick and easy to use. (will be great for hiking and climbing). Also has a very strong and sturdy padded top handle.

I beleive this design makes excellent use of space, but I would not reccommend it for 17.3" inch screen laptop use with measurements exceeding 1.5" x 10.5" x 16".

It looks like 17" laptops have very limited choices for "backpacks", and BOOQ has backpacks larger than this one that will accomidate many 17.3" screen laptops (Booq Boa Flow XL). I believe it is more difficult to protect larger laptops when carried on a persons back due to natural human curvature and movements, but if I had to trust a backpack, it would be a Booq...and NO I do not work for booq, their product has proven it's quality for me since I purchased it in 2005.

I am always on the go with three young children. I needed a backpack that could fit a lot and not be heavy. This backpack is amazing. I am able to stick diapers, snacks, change of clothes (for all three)and head towards the door. The weight is pratically nothing. This backpack is very lightweight, it seems to be well constructed, and it looks great, I use it for school and I can fit a few books in it just fine, the back has a compartment to fit a hydration pack, I use this area to store my 13" laptop there as it's very well padded and easy to access, overall, I like this backpack.

I just finished using this daypack for a 3 week self tour of Ireland. I especially liked the narrow style which resulted in an unobtrusive fit. Main compartment held all essentials for day use plus has a protected, padded, compartment located next to my back which fit my chromebook perfectly. Loved the secrecy this cover brought. It was mysterious and unique and my reason for getting it was personal. I really like it, but I wish the handles were on the outside of the bag. Being on the inside does not allow the rest of the cover to zip shut and could eventually allow the zippers to open and be a hassle. Overall, the material is nice and not heavy like most computer bags!! Big plus.

Osprey Stratos 24 Backpack

This nice-sized daypack is solidly constructed, with much attention to detail, multiple small pockets, and an excellent ventilated panel that keeps your back from getting sweat-soaked. But, it can be a pain to get things out of the main compartment. I carried it for at least half-a-day, four days in a row.

All the attention to detail tells me this product was designed/tested by people who actually use daypacks. Things like the mini-pocket on the shoulder strap being at the exact right place where I could open it without contorting. The sturdy zippers that all have large pulls. The cinch straps that can be used for attaching lightweight items. The removable rain cover. Openings for the tube of a hydration pack.

And here's a big feature: the pack sits the same way on my back when full and loaded heavily, as when empty. I've never encountered such a balanced design on a small pack before.

More than once I found myself surprised that things worked the way I'd have designed them. "I don't want to carry this rain cover to the desert, I wish I could take it out-oh wait, it detaches!".

But on the negative side: I wish the waist belt would detach too (I usually don't use it, why can't I leave it behind?).

The pack's shape is balanced on my back, but not when it's on the ground -it doesn't stand upright when set down, either empty or full. So unless you carefully balance it (the curved shape puts the weight in a weird off-center spot), the pack may end up falling over into the water, or mud, or whatever else. I expect to take my daypack off regularly, so that's a hassle.

And the big negative: it should be easier to get things out of the main compartment of the pack. Even with the cinch straps loosened all the way, getting items out of the bottom of the pack is tedious-they hang up on the material and on each other, because of the curved inside. Contents as commonplace as small SLR camera, a paperback book, and a bottle of water (with stuff loaded in the outside pockets, bottles in the drink holsters) are enough to make it a brief struggle each time I want to extract one of those items.

So, I dock one star for having to struggle with getting things in/out of the primary compartment, and the pack not standing upright on its own. A daypack implies to me usage during an activity (not through-hiking or backpacking), when you'll be stopping and accessing the pack regularly. Making this process cumbersome seems out of place on an otherwise stellar design.

Recommended.

I am a huge Osprey fan; I bought the Osprey Focus about 4 years ago, and when it finally wore out (after I dragged that thing everywhere), Osprey replaced it with an equally awesome bag, the Quantum. Therefore, when I needed to buy my husband a daypack for our hiking trip, I was sold on getting him an Osprey. The Stratos was a great choice. The contoured, breathable back helped wick sweat off his back and was very comfortable. It holds more than it looks like it holds; we kept it stuffed throughout the trip and it held up well. It has sturdy hip pads, and a smaller pocket that was good for holding wallets, compasses, keys, etc. The side mesh pockets are great, too. They are very deep, so you can toss water bottles in there and they won't fall out, even over rock scrambles and falling in a river. I love my Quantum and it has held up well on day hikes, biking, and everyday use, but after this trip, I'm definitely tempted to get myself a Stratos, too. One thing to note: The Stratos, like most Ospreys and good daypacks, build up, rather than out. For people used to bookbags, this can be surprising and make it seem like the bag doesn't hold as much. It does. It also means that you have to be a bit strategic about how you pack, but the benefit is a much more comfortable hike with less stress on your lower back and better balance. Definitely worth it. It is also worth keeping in mind that the Stratos is really intended to be a hiker's bag. If you are looking for an all-round bag that you can take hiking but will mostly use on a daily basis (groceries, biking, walking, school, work, whatever), then think about the Quantum and other bags in that series--it is a better allround bag. But for a dedicated dayhike bag, the Stratos is great.

I highly recommend the Osprey brand. The bags are quality and the customer service is outstanding--seriously one of the best companies I've ever dealt with.

I am quite impressed with the fit and finish of this pack. It has one of those "trampoline" air flow systems (a taut mesh suspension that keeps the pack hovering off of your back) which is unbeatable in hot weather. Sure, it pushes the load out a bit, but the comfort advantage is well worth it. I have had problems in the past with packs not being long enough for my spine, but the Large size version of the Stratos 24 feels like it was tailored to my body. I'm using the pack for bike commutes and day hikes.

Love it. Well built and tough, comfortable and plenty of pockets and space for a day hike. Interestingly, I am 5'7" and the small size was too small for me. The first time anything was too small for me!

Have been using the last Stratos 24 model for a couple of years and still love it. I'm 6'6" and most of the day packs are terrible for anyone not of average height. Very comfortable and handles a 3 liter bladder without any problem. Wish it had an extra pocket or two. Would definitely get another one.

Timbuk2 "Q" Laptop Backpack

I've had the backpack for about 2-3 weeks now and am having to return it:

The laptop sleeve is a great idea but the bag itself is not working out for college use.

Pros:

1. Great laptop sleeve! Best I've seen in a backpack. It's lined in a very soft, stitched/padded, microfiber-type material and the opening is on the righthand side when wearing it (so it's easy to pull out laptop without removing entire backpack).

Also, there's "buffer" space between the bottom of the bag and the laptop sleeve.

2. Lightweight

3. Chest straps are removable (so they don't hang there all the time)

4. Pretty comfortable

5. Side handle near the laptop sleeve comes in... handy

Cons:

1. Thin material (but that's probably why it's lightweight too. E.G. Corners and edges of books sticking through bottom of bag)

2. Questionable quality (stitches are coming apart in a few places already)

3. No place for umbrella or water bottle

4. Power adapter compartment doesn't work well for Apple chargers, though it would be good for PC ones

5. I have no idea why it comes with a metal bottle opener permanently attached to the shoulder strap... I'm assuming it's a bottle opener but either way, it makes some noise when setting it down, especially on a metal desk leg

Ultimately, I'm returning it because it's too small and I doubt it would hold up.

With one book, folder, notebook and Macbook Air with charger (with a few other small things), I can barely fit a 27oz water bottle inside main compartment (where I definitely wouldn't want it to leak) and I can't fit an umbrella ANYWHERE. There is nowhere to stow it on the outside of the bag.

When there's a book in the main compartment, it's shape is distinctly visible through the bottom material. Setting the bag down like this would wear a hole through it pretty quickly.

So, it's a great light-duty bag if you want to take a laptop to the coffee shop with a couple magazines or a small book.

It's not the best to take to campus for a full day of school.

This 2011 version of the Q has fixed the issues of the original. The pad at the bottom of the laptop compartment has been replaced with a hammock that the computer rests on. Then there's a space between that and the base of the backpack, which is better than a cushion anyway. Really great design!

I have a heavy Macbook Pro 15.4", and I'm a wimpy girl. I was really looking for something that would distribute the weight correctly, and also something that didn't weigh a lot itself. Originally I'd planned on getting one of the Swissgear bags, but found out thru reviews that they were really heavy even empty. These Timbuk2's have good reviews, and I watched all the videos on their site to get an idea how how big each version was. This one is plenty big! Really glad I didn't go for the HAL. Note that I'm not a student, so I don't have to haul around books. I've got my Nook and a reader's journal, the power cords, my iPod, other chargers, my calendar, and a few other things, and the bag feels like it's empty still. Not even expanded. The best part of all is that when it's up on my back, it no longer feels heavy.

There are a surprising number of pockets. I did find that the charger fits even better in one of the interior ones, with the extended power cord along with it. The bottle opener is kind of ridiculous, but it will work really well as a place to keep my keys.

BTW, the computer compartment is large. My 15+" Mac slides in and out easily. I like the side entry. Means a little bit less lifting of my weighty computer.

I got the purple and blue one. The color is much deeper than pictured, a gorgeous combination of deep purple and deep blue. Really happy with this purchase.

I purchased this as my everyday carry around pack (I walk a mile to school one way). Perfect for a book or three and a laptop. I usually carry a standard sized binder (9"x12"), 2-3 average sized books (5"x7" or less) along with my laptop and power cord. Keeps my laptop secure with minimal jostling even when the rest of the bag is empty. The power cord pocket just fits my standard size cord and the front compartment is large enough to hold a magazine and standard utensils. Items in front compartment may get a bit damp in rain if the bag is completely full but laptop is always dry. Swing around access makes it easy to pull laptop out and also give access to a small pocket perfect for storing keys and wallet in.

I purchased this backpack to carry my computer and a few papers when traveling by air. It's narrow enough to fit under the aisle seat of 757s, unlike my previous Tumi bag. It looks reasonably professional and worked pretty well for close to 18 months. However, the zippers are light duty. Even though I was gentle with this bag the zipper on the much-used computer sleeve eventually ripped.

I checked the Timbuk2 web page and was encouraged by the headline on the warranty page: "Timbuk2 products have a lifetime guarantee; we stand behind the legendary quality and craftsmanship of all our products." Frankly, that was more than I would have expected from a fairly inexpensive bag.

But once I got into the process I was disappointed. They don't pay for the bag to be shipped to them or returned. There is also a line that says, "For repairs to stitching or zippers we recommend visiting your local dry cleaner or tailor."

I sent the following note to customer service: "The zipper for the computer compartment broke despite the fact that I have been gentle with it. Rather than having me waste money sending the bag back and forth to you, how about reimbursing me for a repair locally?"

Here's the reply I got: "Unfortunately, we haven't worked out a system to get a you refund for a repair. Something like that usually cost $10 to $15. We could get you a store credit for the cost of the repair, but unfortunately, we don't have a way to refund your credit card without a charge being incurred." I can forgive the sloppy English, but the message is not a great brand builder.

So I went to the local "zipper hospital," where the owner was none-too-impressed with the quality of the zipper. She showed me how it was weak and set up to fail. She offered to close off the broken part (the first 3 inches or so), which would give me a smaller opening to slide the computer into, but would still be workable. That would be $16. For $25 she could repair the zipper. I wasn't enthusiastic repairing something that would just break again, however.

Finally we settled on a new heavy duty zipper for $42; the kind of zipper the bag should have come with in the first place. Although I feel stupid paying almost half the price of a new bag for the repair it did seem like the best alternative.

The shoulder straps are comfortable and very flexible at the top due to the unique connection. The back padding keeps you comfortable without making you sweat. The side handle and easy access laptop pocket are perfect for someone who is in and out of offices, cars and airplanes all day. I haven't found a need for the built-in bottle opener yet, but summer is just around the corner.

My last computer bag was a Tumi Tech and it lasted five years, at a cost of $250. Let's see how long my Timuk2 lasts!

Bottom line, this is a very well designed bag with tons of pockets and features, while remaining very light. I highly recommend this bag.

A friend of mine just gave me this wallet/purse a couple of weeks ago, and I just love it. She has used hers for awhile now and bought it especially to carry when she goes to casinos. She liked it so much she bought several more to give as gifts (including mine). On the inside, there are 4 pockets to hold your cards (which is where I put my license, check card, AAA card, and Health card), and those pockets hide another bigger pocket to hold the rest of your cards. There is a mesh zip pocket to hold change, and then of course the long pocket (like a man's wallet) to hold dollar bills. The entire thing zips up to 5" x 6 1/2"...black on one side and blue on the other (or other colors that you might choose).

If I'm just running to the local store, I can grab this and go. If I'm going on a larger shopping trip, I put this in my large purse that holds my hairbrush and other necessities and just take this wallet into each store or restaurant. The braided shoulder cord is heavy duty, hanging about 26 inches in length. When I first got it, I lost it twice in the first store I went to, because it is so extremely lightweight that you don't even realize it's there. Then I realized it needs to be worn across the chest which in turn places it perfectly at your hip level and makes it impossible to lose. No need to worry about your purse being stolen from a shopping cart or from your table while you're up at the buffet, because you can wear this small unobtrusive wallet at all times. I love it!

Arc'teryx Mantis 26 Daypack - 1587cu in

This is a really nice day, but the main compartment is a little smaller than we would like. Once we learned how to make the most out of all the pockets it was good. The back brace is nice as you don't have to worry how you are putting things in and it being uncomfortable. The straps are great. Again, great for a day but not going to fit much more. Maybe a weekend if you are wearing your only pair of shoes ;-)

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but this pack deserves to be 5*.

I purchased it from REI after comparing it in the store to about 10 other packs. I then took it on a 4 country trip over Christmas. Its best features include:

1) This is a VERY lightweight day pack, perfect for a traveler

2) Its best and most unique feature is how light it feels when completely packed. It sits very high on your back. You can sort of tell this from the picture if you look closely. So instead of pulling on the middle of your torso, it feels like the load is resting higher on my shoulders.

3) The "forehead" pocket (that pocket that zips open from the top) is very very handy when traveling coach. You don't have to pull the entire bag out or open from wherever you have it stowed.

Intangibles: there seems to be a cult thing around Arcteryx gear which I didn't know about (or care about) when I bought it. In Vienna we were in the Schonbrunn palace christmas market outside waiting for the tour bus back. An older Russian couple were being very quiet and not talking with anyone else. The Russian gentleman had on an Arcteryx jacket. I showed him my backpack and he became all animated and said things in Russian :-).

Anyway, GREAT pack with unique physics that makes your load feel lighter than it is.

Unless I completely misunderstood, this pack is supposed to take up to 17" laptop. well, the sleeve isn't big enough, and due to the arc support, laptop can't be shoved in the sleeve at all. I've even tried with 13" laptop and no luck. As I searched the net, altrec website shows the model putting his laptop in the main compartment, NOT in the sleeve, so I must assume that most people just place laptop without any protection???

I was so looking forward this sleek looking inexpensive pack for daily commute, but I had to return it. I'm sticking with Axios 25 (discontinued) for now Axios is not beefy padded pack, but at least the sleeve does stretch enough to hold my laptop.

Mantis is the lowest end of Arc product line, and it sure is designed & made that way.
