High Sierra Classic Series 59401 Sentinel 65 Internal Frame Pack
I found the pack to be excellent, especially considering the low price point. It is sufficiently roomy for a 3-season 2/3 day trip and has an excellent strapping system both for fit and compression.
The pack is fitted for larger framed persons; I'm 5' 7", 170 pounds, and found myself cinching up the straps almost to their absolute minimum, but they still functioned perfectly fine.
I also experienced the "Squeaking" problem, and to me it seemed to happen only when the load shifted its weight onto the point where the straps connect to the pack, and occured especially during lateral movement. This is hard to overcome during steep uphills, but keeping the load properly positioned on your hips will elimnate the squeak most of the time.
The attached rain-fly fits the pack very well even when heavily loaded and with an attached bedroll, and keeps it dry even in a heavy rain. The built in hydration ports are especially useful, as I was able to use my Camelback resivoir with the pack.
The long and the short of it is that if you are looking to make a smart buy, this is a quality pack that is smartly built that will not leave you with regrets.Great value for a large framed guy like me... Anyone with a 32" waist or under need not apply; The pack will not cinch down tight enough to be usable on a you. This pack holds all I need to carry with me for a two-three day backpacking trip, with nothing outside of the pack. It rides well and is very comfortable if a bit heavy. Do cut off and then hem the large amount of excess straping. The sleeping bag compartment is a tight fit for my 15 degree bag and air pad. It also squeeks a bit if your load shifts while walking but this can be fixed by tightening down the generous number of compression straps. Overall a awesome value, and the best fit for my big frame.

Hi All, Thanks for posting your reviews on the High Sierra 65 bag, it is the main reason I purchased it. I just received mine this morning and had it on a trail less than an hour later.Tested 2 hours with a ~25lb load on a ~7 mile trail with approx. 1500 ft elevation total.
Squeeks yes, not bad, not enough to be annoying.
Hip belt large yes, I have a 34-36 waist, after cinching it down comfortable only 3-6 inches of total tightening left until it will be as tight as it can go.
Shoulder strap slippage (reason for 4 vs. 5) yes on both straps, especially when running. This was probably the most annoying thing about this pack, going to look into making elastic velcro wraps to secure down the shoulder straps more.
Top main compartment: Fits a 3 season 2 person marmot titan tent, tent poles, tent cover, tent stakes, and an additional sleeping mat. Takes up roughly 1/3 of the main compartments available space.
H20 Compartment runs the full internal depth of the bag, appears to be able to hold more than one bladder with duel hyrdration tubes ports (left and right side) and huge bladder compartment. Keep in mind a full H20 compartment will reduce the available space in the top main compartment and the bottom sleeping bag compartment.
Side mesh pockets Plenty large enough for a 1 Liter Nalgene on each side.
Bottom Sleeping bag compartment fits my 40 degree bag, sleeping mat, and thermarest pillow with room to spare.
Back zipper pocket Fits 2 oranges side by side, 2 bags of jerky, and a 750ML Nalgene on top with room. Note that the zipper bag compartment space is tied in with the copression straps so pack zipper bag prior to compressing main bag.
Adjustable Ergo Fit harness awesome
Hip/Shoulder strap padding Very comfortable.
It was around low 60's on the trail with a cool wind so I didn't notice if the pack made me any warmer or not.
The only thing missing on the High Sierra 65 is hip belt pockets.

I was in need of a general purpose backpack. Not too large, not too small, and one that I would only use a few times a year. I read the reviews on various backpacks sold at Amazon.com, REI, and other sporting goods retailers. Since I wasn't going to use it that much, I couldn't bring myself to spend $100-$300. The feedback on this pack was that it was a solid pack for the money.Took it camping this past weekend and I have to say that I don't think that you can find a better pack for the money ($88 through Amazon.com). Some of my fellow campers could not believe how nice of a bag it was, and were even more surprised when I told them what I paid for it. The pack is very well built. At 65 liters, it is big enough for a few days worth of backpacking. It is a top-loading drawstring design, with two smaller external compartments. The shoulder straps fit very nice and it was comfortable to use, even fully loaded. There are straps on the top, sides, and bottom to compress the pack once it is loaded.
I would definitely not recommend this for anyone with a 36" or smaller waist due to the size of the waist straps. I have a 38" waist and had the waist straps cinched up almost all the way. It is not the lightest backpack, but since I'm not climbing K-2 anytime soon, it works fine for my needs.
I would have liked the Chipotle color, but not enough to spend an extra $20-$30.

I first used this backpack for a 3-day trip in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I was able to fit my compact 25-deg sleeping bag, 6x8 tarp and some camp accessories into the sleeping bag compartment. The upper compartment was able to hold my clothing, small stove, solo bear canister, D-SLR camera, and toiletries -plus a hydration bladder in the built-in hydration pocket. My 2-man tent and air pad fit perfectly on the bottom of the pack. I had a water bottle and camera tripod in the external mesh pockets. At almost 5 lbs. this pack isn't for the super-light trekking crowd, but the well-padded waistband did a good job of transferring the pack's weight to my hips so it was easy for me to carry 50+ lbs for three days without any difficulties.
I am 6'3" and weigh 220 lbs. and the well-padded waist straps fit me well and the Ergo-fit shoulder harness adjusted so the pack fit me well. The Sentinel 65 also fit a 5'9" person's frame very comfortably. The air channel design of the backpack's padding helped keep my back dry and cool better than some packs I've used.
The one thing I didn't know before I bought the pack was how the upper compartment lid is held on by four adjustable straps. This allows more room to fit gear, but if the back isn't very full, the top flap can be hard to keep secured. The pack also seems like it has more straps than I'd ever use. But, better too many straps than too few in my estimation.
Overall an excellent pack at a good price, plus High Sierra's lifetime warranty make this backpack a very good value.

Alpinestars Terror Backpack 6100812-162
Was *barely* able to fit a 14" HP Envy Ultrabook with a neoprene slip cover. Not sure if it would fit a 15" laptop as claimed. With the (very thin) laptop in the backpack, I can fit one AVERAGE size textbook and a notebook or two. So if you have lots of books (or even 1 big book) to haul around, I'd go with one of the bigger backpacks. For reference, this one is advertised as 17 Liter capacity.
Good construction, zippers open and close properly, helmet holder is effective if a bit unwieldy (I think that would be the case with any backpack with helmet holder, it's hard not to hit people and/or objects).

13 inch Newspaper Pattern Notebook Laptop Sleeve Bag Carrying Pouch Case for most of Apple Macbook,
Highly recommend this case to the discerning computer geek. The exterior is not black and white, it is sepia-tone with a color printed image on each side. (see photos I uploaded)case was delivered extremely quickly. awesome design and artwork on frontvery unique. only downside was that the side protection wasn't as soft and cushiony as i expected. however i expect that this case will serve its purpose very well.i love how it says in big bold letters: IMAGE OF ARTIST on one side.
it has that "new" type of product smell where something was just unwrapped from the box. it's like a packaging smell i guess. i think it will eventually go away, though. the smell isn't too bad. this fit my macbook pro 13" very nice and snug. i think it's adorable.Great desing and fits like a glove.
It even protected my laptop from a small spill that happend when I had groceries in the back trunk of my car.
I definatly recommend this.I like the product because it is exactly how it was described. It fits my computer and its very unique! havent seen anyone else with it. Has good padding and not too bulky. it can easily fit in my backpack for school, it is very lightweight

Alchemy Goods Original Messenger Bag, Made from Recycled Bike Tubes
I personally own the entire range of Alchemy goods bags (haversack, urban, pike, pine, and now messenger) and at first was like do I really need a another large bag?
Oh yes I DID!
Am I glad I chose to purchase this one,
Ok first of all the bag is ridiculously visible with the reflective taping adorning the entire shell of the bag making it ultra noticeable at night and even in the day as the sun catches the reflective coating, So for bikers, skateboarders, or even motorcyclists it adds a additional layer of protection.
One thing not mentioned often are the two handy side pouches on the outside of the bag, at first i was like oh god no exterior zip pouch where am i going to put my water and phone, i was excited to find these slots, they're ideally placed and hold your items securely,
The interior is voluminous with 2 pouches that can hold a 7 inch tablet, or even a small book. I personally use this bag as a travel bag and for carryon luggage, it meets airline guidelines and I can fit about 2-3 days worth of clothes, toiletries, etc into it. Even for school it can hold all your massive biology and chem textbooks and still have room. Add in a key hook + pen slots, and a 17 inch laptop divider and you have a great work bag.
The interior Zip pocket under the flap is big enough to hold a galaxy note and keeps things secure and out of sight, a nice protective feature.
The double seatbelt strap is really nice and comfortable, a pretty cool addition
Plus like all alchemy goods bags it's waterproof, what other bag can say that, i have massive disrespect for water resistant bags because inevitably they will leak water in and damage your belongings, that will NOT happen with a alchemy goods bag.
This bag is a beast and super durable,
I love it and totally recommend it!Have had this messenger bag six months now and very happy with its performance. Bag is large and holds all that I need it for for work, including my biking garment bag. Multiple pockets are enough to keep my big and small items separate, and my 15" laptop fits great. I do keep my laptop in a padded "InCase" holder (always have) and thus can't comment on padding.
Sliding strap does work to provide extra support while riding. Large stripes are very visible and make me feel better as I often bike before the sun comes up. There are side pockets on the ends of the bag where I can add a few extras, but I find that only one of them can really hold a regular sized water bottle.
I was worried the tubes would not be very protective, but have found that they are very durable. I've gotten the bag caught on corners of tables, screw-ends, and misc parts of the bike and thought I'd find a little tear in the rubber, but that hasn't happened in six months of everyday use.
Compared the bag with the Timbuk2 messenger bags when deciding what kind of bag to get and found the Timbuk2 ratings less than comforting. So went with this bag and very happy that I did, especially with the recycled factor and USA made...glad to keep my dollars local.
Very much appreciate the key hook...

The bag is a good size for a child's items. There are several pockets inside and a few on the outside. The interior is orange so it makes it easy to find things you are looking for. The only suggestion I have about it is that the outside pockets should be a bit taller so that waterbottles stay in them better.Read Best Reviews of Shanghai Steel Blue Convertible Messenger Diaper Bag Here

Eagle Creek Travel Gear Id Zipper Pull Set (Lime)
They do three things that are super useful: 1) they are super easy to attach, 2) they don't come loose from the zipper (other ones I have tried do pull loose), and 3) a bonus I didn't expect -they are colored so I can easily identify my suitcase!
I highly recommend these if you need a zipper pull!Eagle creek is a good company--their stuff lasts.
Great pull set if you don't mind the somewhat neon blue color. Goes well with black.

Gregory Mountain Products Alpaca 22-Inch Adventure Travel Roller Duffle-55 Liter
Anyone who has traveled by air in the last 10 years knows you have to put everything you'll need in a carry-on measuring 22x14x9". Gregory claims it's a "carry-on sized bag". Its dimensions are close and the cinch straps lead you to believe it will compress to qualify. It won't! The bottom is rigid at 12.5 x 14"
Most carry-ons have wheels and a telescoping handle which reduce the interior height from 8.5" to a mere 6.5". That's a loss of at least a pair of pants and 3 shirts!
Gregory saw the light and moved the handle rods to the outside in an attempt to regain 23.5% of the interior space. Good thought; poor execution! Gregory angled the handle rods to balance the bag on the wheels which reduced the entire 13.5" interior width dimension to just 11.5". Though a less reduction(15%)in overall usable space, folding your clothes to to a mere 11.5" is impossible.
The rest of the bag is absolute top quality. I hope Gregory sees the light again, removes the angle of the telescoping rods, and shortens the bottom to truly qualify as a carry-on. If and when that happens . . . this will be the most sought after bag on earth!

Arc'teryx Blade 15 Backpack - 915cu in
Here's what I like:
It's kind of a briefcase turned on its side so you can wear it as a backpack. The construction quality, as always with Arc'Teryx, is top-notch. It's also very professional-looking. You could carry this to a business meeting using the side handle, and few people would notice it's actually a backpack.
The straps are great. Well-padded and structured. The framesheet is awesome, too. Makes it really supportive.
The laptop "sling" is a great alternative to padded bags. You get great protection without bulky padding.
Here's what I don't like:
The storage is barely accessible. The zippers are way too short; they don't even go the full length of the pockets. If all you are doing is inserting manila folders, you'll find it works fine. But I can't even figure out how you would put a pen in some of the pen slots, much less clothes. Even dropping your power brick in the main pocket is more awkward than it should be.
The laptop pocket is also hard to get at. You really have to squeeze your hand into the pocket to fasten the velcro retaining strap. It's badly-sized for my 14" ThinkPad.
The back is actually quite large, too. It's thin, but the length and width are pretty big. I would not call this compact by any stretch.
All in all, it's not worth $150. It may be well-built, but it is ill-conceived. I'm sending it back.

16.5 Inch Newspaper Pattern Urban Lightweight Dual Compartment School Bag Bookbag Backpack
Style wise, I give it five stars. I love writing and being as editor of my university's paper, I found this bag a perfect early Christmas present. I have received numerous of compliments.
It's an amazing buy for $15. But if you were looking for a bag to hold textbook, don't put your money on it.Words may not do justice, let me tell ya. The book-bag looks dope. I cannot say the same for the quality. The zipper broke the first time I zipped it open. The straps stitching was coming undone. I was not happy. Frankly, I was down right disappointed.
Buy 16.5 Inch Newspaper Pattern Urban Lightweight Dual Compartment School Bag Bookbag Backpack Now
The first week the strap to zipper fell off. I haven't had it for that long and little by little all the zipper started breaking. It's a nice backpack in terms of style. The quality, however, isn't exactly the best. I've only been using it for a month or two, and the threads where the two straps attach to the top are already starting to loosen. I'm in high school, and I carry my bag around the entire day. It usually contains a few notebooks, folders, food, and occasionally a binder, but NEVER a textbook. I'm afraid it just won't hold, and honestly, I'm afraid that the straps won't hold for the rest of the year. BUT for $15 what more can you expect?Thursday, November 14, 2013

Case Logic VNR-217 Executive Rolling 17-Inch Laptop Case (Black)
This one does. Plus Case Logic Warranty is GREAT. See below.
Pockets could be better organized (the only thing not giving it 5 stars).
I works well with my carry-on luggage. I am able to hook it to my luggage and roll both.
It is stable, does not tip.
Update after 6 months of usage.
Fabric on bottom of case is wearing away from rolling thru airports... I put some black gaffer tape on it.
Wheels and handle are holding up well.
Fits on all of regional jet overheads.. Some need a good shove(Delta), but it does fit.
Update... 11 months in...
Zipper on the middle compartment has failed.. Wheels and handle in good shape..
Called the vendor, within 5 minutes I had a form in my inbox for a claim. Within 5 days I had a replacement bag.
All at no charge. Pretty easy, just emailed them the form with 2 photo's. 1 to show what failed, 1 to show the front of bag with logo.
For the money, you can't do better. The design of this case is awesome. So many great compartments, smartly organized, useful. The problem with it is the stupid handle! I ordered one for my father-in-law. He loved it. The handle wouldn't full extend. So he exchanged it, and got one with a working handle. My mother-in-law loved the design, so she ordered one, then had the same handle problem. It's very frustrating. She sent it back and is looking for a different case just to avoid the handle issue, even though she really likes it. Now I want to find a rolling case and even though I do really like the design of this one, I hesitate to buy it, or any other by Case Logic. Please, fix it!
Buy Case Logic VNR-217 Executive Rolling 17-Inch Laptop Case (Black) Now
I look for quite some time for a laptop case. Couldn't decide if I wanted just a case or one that will hold other things. Decided that I had so many other gadgets that I would just get the one on rollers and I could just put everything in there. There is enough room to hold everything, plus the extra compartment that will hold overnight clothes if I choose.I am so glad that I chose this one.
The price was very reasonable also.
