I searched online forever for the right bag. To the point where my wife told me,"just pick a damn bag already!". I'm very glad I chose this bag. Very tough and looks awesome. I work construction and have a big panasonic toughbook that i put into the bigger pouch. the smaller pouch that's supposed to be used for a smaller computer i just keep my clipboard and paperwork in there.

Bottom line is yes i would buy this bag again and definitely recommend it.

Tumi Luggage Tumi Weighing Scale

This is so overpriced. It's made of plastic and feels real cheap like made in China cheap. I guess that's because it is! The strap system to lift your bag is one of the worst. It's not adjustable and I don't feel confident weighing luggage with it. It's a small double hook which you latch on to the handle. The metal hooks are more curved then an angle and it doesn't really hook on secure and can easily slip off. This is by far one of most expensive pieces of junk that TUMI has ever produced.

I read other reviews and decided to see for myself. This in fact is a really nice accessory for Tumi Luggage. It is compact, the screen is well lit, the scale is very compact and can travel easily. The connection to the luggage is the "t-clip" associated with Tumi Luggage and like Tumi Luggage is very well made. This is not a cheaply made product as I have read in a review, in fact it is quite well made and fairly accurate. I recommend this scale for Tumi Luggage.

I purchased this backpack for my sons 2012 school year ... He had been asking for it all summer... Even though it was pricey I thought he would really enjoy it. Well School started Aug 15th and By August 25th one of the shoulder straps completely ripped off!! After 3 hours of trying to sew it back on I was able to make it work. Now It is hardly the middle of October and the zippers no longer work. This is such a dissapointment and a complete waste of my money!!! This backpack is very expensive! It should be made out of better quality!!

My son loved this backpack while it lasted, but unfortunately it only lasted half a school year. As soon as I received it I could see that it was a "cheaply" made backpack. The zipper broke after a few months of very light usage of a 1st grader (he only carried a lunchbox inside his bag every day).

I always try to order my son something different for use at school, so he doesn't have the typical wal-mart backpack like everyone else, plus, Pokemon stuff is kind of hard to find. I bought backpacks on Amazon in the years before with absolutely no problem. This backpack, however, was not the same! This backpack is VERY cheap feeling. It looks cute, but within in one week of my 3rd grader using it, it fell apart. One seam busted completely out (and he doesn't even carry textbooks or anything heavy) and both zippers broke and we fixed them twice, but after that, there was nothing left to do. This is garbage, unless you are just looking for something to pack for sleepovers, I would not suggest buying this. This backpack had to be thrown away, and I never throw things away! But I couldn't even salvage this anymore. :( Shabby quality for something with that high of a price!

Timbuk2 The Shift Pannier Messenger Bag

I commute to and from work daily, and needed a bag to store my lunch, work clothes and purse. I'd tried using a backpack, but that was not ideal in the Georgia heat. I'd also tried traditional panniers (REI brand). While those were okay, my bike frame is a bit too small--I'm very short--and the pannier would drag on the chain. I did ride with one, but felt it awkward to carry around when off the bike, and it tended to bounce a bit over the potholes.

I am very pleased with this bag. The bungee on the bottom is an excellent feature--the bag does not bounce at all. It sits high enough that I can put it on either side of my rack, and I like that you can carry it like a normal bag. The waterproofing is excellent, as well. All in all, a perfect pannier.

As a messenger bag, it is quite stiff, but if you adjust it correctly it is comfortable to carry around. I've walked around with it one for hours and had no problems. You might want to get some sort of padding for the strap if you plan on carrying it extensively, but as I'm primarily carrying it from bike to work, from bike to party, its fine.

After a short-lived time with a DIY messenger bag system and then a full pannier system (see: Avenir Metro review) that could have seriously injured me, I think this is the one. I've only had it one day but I am absolutely in love with the way the pannier system works. It is much faster than a normal pannier system and the hooks have caused me no discomfort whatsoever thus far when I'm using it as a messenger bag.

This is my first Timbuk2 bag and I'm really seeing what all the hype is about. The attention to detail is great. I especially love the main shoulder strap and its ingenious "memory locking" system that lets me take it on and off comfortably with my helmet still on. My 15-inch Dell Studio doesn't even begin to fit in the designated laptop sleeve, but it fits just fine in the normal cargo area. A thin macbook would fit in the sleeve and now I know why all the hipsters here in the bay area have Timbuk2s.

The cargo area appears just large enough for me to use this as my goto bag for 95% of my commuting duties, including laptop + books + jacket and grocery shopping. The fact that you can use the velcro system and ignore the clips increases the usable storage capacity of this bag. One gallon of milk should be easy and while I haven't tried it, two gallons of milk might be doable.

Conclusion: a work of art. As long as the build quality holds up and nothing breaks, I would highly HIGHLY recommend this if you are looking for a pannier bag and are either 1) unfamiliar with pannier bags and are overwhelmed with the choices or 2) don't want a pannier bag because it makes your bike look ugly, but your back hurts from the laptop you HAVE to carry.

*Edit: So I've had this for awhile now and I still stick by my claim that this is THE pannier bag for me. I've had to take it in to a seamstress to have 10 inches of nylon removed to fit my slim size, and now it fits even better. I've begun to notice the metal latches jamming into my back if I load it up and wear it as a messenger bag, but I don't feel it's annoying enough to really bother me. Final conclusion: this was a great purchasing decision.

I've been searching for a bag like this for ages. Tons of searching online for a fairly stylish pannier bag to take to work, AND for it to have some protection from the elements, to be well-made, not cost a fortune and also be easy to carry around when not on the bike. Well after 2 weeks of using it, the Shift bag from Timbuk2 totally meets all my expectations.

Really good bag, very very comfortable to carry around when in messanger bag mode, the strap and strap adjustor are very comfortable.

The bag seems very durable and well-constructed. The inner lining should be great when it comes to rain (haven't experienced yet though), the pockets are solid.

The pannier clips are pretty solid. I kind of wish the bag could have had conventional pannier clips ("klickfix" style) just because they are a little more secure to the bike rack then these BUT the big trade-off is that these pannier hooks can easily be turned and velco strapped onto the back of the bag when not in use. Even the lower clip (to the base on the bike) can be hooked away a bit to it won't scratch you or snag clothing when not on the bike.

I deducted one point because I wish there could have been at least one small pocket on the exterior of the bag, in reality this is only worth a half-point deduction, so the bag is more of a 4.5*/5 for me.

After a year of researching the various Racktime, Knog, Ortlieb, etc etc "city" "commuter" style bags for something visually appealing, AND well-made I'm very glad with the choice of getting the Shift.

I absolutely loved the idea of a combo messenger/pannier bag, so when my previous panniers were finally giving up the ghost I picked one of these up.

They've put a lot of work into making this just right: the detachable shoulder strap, the flat front pockets, the waterproof lining, the nicely-placed reflective strips.

They clearly put thought into the pannier assembly too: there are velcro straps to cover up and secure the hooks for your bike rack. Unfortunately, I find the whole hook/velcro assembly still sticks out enough to rub uncomfortably when I use this as a messenger. In fact, it's bad enough that I've noticed some wear and tear on my clothes if I carry the messenger for any length of time. If I were redesigning this bag, I'd consider adding a larger padded flap to address the problem.

It's still a great bag if I'm not doing a lot of walking at my final destination or I have a second bag stashed there for walks (e.g. at work). You won't catch me biking to the state fair or out to a hiking trail, but I'm pretty happy with it as a commuter bag.

I've used this waterproof bag in the rain and sun for about a month and a half now. It's sturdy yet flexible, and has great velcro or clip in options for securing the cover. Excellent side flaps under the cover to make sure no water gets in when it's wet (great in my green city of Seattle). My favorite part is the ability to quickly undo the velcro on the backside and hook it onto my bike rack for quick, easy transportation. I've filled it very full and it hasn't made me lose balance on my bike to only have it on one side, and I'm a beginning rider. I haven't even noticed a difference in terms of one side being heavier because of the bag.

Bought this for my son who is a teacher. He loves all the features and it holds all the papers etc. he needs it to. He uses it every day.

I like how durable this backpack is and how it has many compartments. What really bothers me is the construction of the straps: they have a very scratchy mesh material that rubs against my skin. For this reason, I always have to be wearing a tshirt, which is sometimes obnoxious when I am hiking or traveling, otherwise, the material rubs my skin kind of raw. For this reason, I am giving it 3 stars. If the straps had been different, I would have given it 5 stars.

I bought this pack for two uses: (1) For personal items while camping and (2) for biking to school. I just got back from the Boundary Waters and it held up very well the side straps are particularly helpful if you pack this thing full like I did. The internal plastic frame works well for keeping everything organized, and it's removable via a velcro pocket.

There is plenty of pocket space/compartment area in this pack and I'm ready to fill it up with books/my laptop this fall. I recommend this pack for anyone who wants a multi-purpose pack, and like all Kelty prodcuts it's made very well. My dad has Kelty packs and tents that have lasted 20+ years, I have full faith this pack will be the same.

Gregory Women's Jade 34 Backpack

I just love Gregory packs, I have the 25, 28, 34, 38 and the 50 Jade packs! Yuphave to sell a couple, whah! ha ha ha. Anyway the 34 is the perfect size for a long day hike or a simple overnight jaunt. I use mine as a emergency pack in my car! It handles up to 35 lbs and is still comfortable to wear. It has a lot of pockets to choose from to creatively store your gear in the best places for you to get them quickly. The built-in standard rain covers are a nice quality touch! The Jade cross flow suspension is my favorite and goes up to the 38 before it changes the suspension on the bigger packs. The air flow on hot summer days of 90+ is wonderful. The shoulder straps are very comfortable considering they don't look thick. I have a neck & shoulder injury and these packs are so comfortable for me to wear, that's why I have so many! ha ha ha. I purchased a clover green before they disappeared! It's a rich color, very nice. Gregory offers some very nice colors, the tuolumne green, Nordic blue and the red/grey combo are the richest so far. The bluebird is ok but not a favorite. Depends on your taste. I can't recommend a better pack for the price, especially when you get them on sale!! Worth every penny.The newer packs put the side compression straps over the side water bottle pockets, this is the only "upgrade" I do not like, as I like to be able to compress my pack, not my water bottle as I like to drink from it!! Other than that can't complain.

Bottom line: Great packs, cool colors and Comfortable with a capitol C!! Worth the price of admission...

I really like the vented shoe pouch but when you put shoes in it it takes up so much internal bag space that it doesn't leave much space for much else inside the bag. all in all I like the bag I just wish it was a little bigger like some of the Nike bags that I've seen.

I bought this specifically because it meets the maximum size specifications for overhead bin storage on most airlines. It satisfies in that respect.

However, I have consistently experienced a problem with the bag tending to fall forward; it is prone to tipping over away from the handle side. Very annoying, especially when traveling. This happens even though I have nothing stored in the outer pockets, although that should really make no difference.

Overall quality is satisfactory; I expected the inside to perhaps have some pockets and maybe some padding, but such is not the case.

Given another opportunity to purchase, I would go in a different direction because I get tired of the bag falling over all the time. But, it does get the job done.

I love the color, I wasn't sure about it on the web site but when I saw it in person, I really like it. The wheels feel good and the main compartment is great. I am curious to see if the 22" will go as a carry-on on the first leg of a trip overseas on a smaller jet. Where does that bag fail to impress? The most obvious issue I have is that pack isn't all that comfortable as a backpack; this is made worse by the lump of the carry handles that presses into the middle of your back above the padding. Without the backpack straps, I would declare this a perfect and stylish small duffel; but, with them, I find it not as useful ironically. It probably could have been greatly helped if the carry handles had a recessed impression to sit in while the bag is on your back.

OK, I admit that I'm not the target audience for this product. The only adventure most of my travel consists of is extreme turbulance, or riding the airport shuttle bus (and that is an adventure in its own way). That being said, I'm an extremely frequent traveler so am always looking for the next great bag.

This bag is great.

I consider myself a master in the art of carry-on, and this bag really fits the bill. For single overnight trips, I often carry just a duffle. This will replace that duffle, and help to save my poor shoulders. I will be able to carry a change of clothes, my cosmetics, laptop and accessories and a book. It will easily fit in the overhead bin. It might be just a bit too long to fit underneath the seat in front of you. I'll have to check on my next trip.

It's light, it looks nice (it's pretty masculine/sporty looking), it's sturdy and it's well-designed. Most backpacks are awkward to get in and out of. This one opens up like a duffle bag, which is my favorite feature. Additionally, it's got all kinds of handles on it so if you don't feel like wearing it as a backpack, there are other easy ways to carry it.

It expands and collapses very easily and there are plenty of zipper pouches. There's even a sturdy insert for the storage of goggles or sunglasses, but which would also fit a computer mouse and power cord quite nicely. There's also a great spot to store 3 ounze toileties in their clear plastic bag for easy access at security.

They call this bag a "crossover" and I'm definitely crossing it over. I think it would be great for business traveler, or adventurer alike.

So I bought this bag June of 2011, and between commuting to and from work and traveling I've developed a love/hate relationship with it. First let me say that the construction is top notch. I lived out of it for over 3 months while in eastern europe, never parting from it unless it was at a hosts house; it's been shuffled in and out of cars, planes, busses, trains and boats more times than I can count and still hasn't shown any signs of wear. Another thing I like about this bag is the location of the zipper, keeping it on your back side I think helps keep things a bit safer while it's being worn. With this said, when packing it you need to be careful of the arrangement of items inside as if there are ANY odd shapes items on top (the zipper side) you WILL feel it jabbing you in the back later on. It took me some experimenting with different arrangements to fine one that worked well. Having everything packed properly, and with the straps pulled tight everything really hold it's place well, even when being tossed about all day. After packing and securing everything, it kind of resembles a giant flat sausage with backpack straps. The straps also make excellent places to attach carabiners for H2O bottles, etc. Also, with plenty of handels it can be handled from nearly any angle making for quick stowing and retrieval from luggage compartments.

One huge thing I feel needs to be adressed is the lack of a waist strap. Every single time you run with this pack it bounces about wildly unless you holding the two bottom pull straps, and who wants to do this when they'e trying to catch the tram or metro? Waist straps would also help take some of the pressure off your shoulders. I usually carry 9-10 kilos of luggage and initially it is comfortable, but after 8+ hours of exploring new cities on foot without a break my shoulders really felt every gram. Another thing is the lack of any kind of reinforcements. Since there is no frame in this bag, the arrangement of the contents will greatly impact the rigidity when closed and compressed with the straps. This was most evident on the bottom, if the shell was not sufficiently taut it would fold over into a dagger and stab at the bottom of my back. This was most noticeable on hot days when I would only wear a t-shirt, with a jacket on it's not noticeable. Maybe putting another foam pad there would alleviate this and provide more comfort?

I do feel like those rubber ribs are a bit over hyped, I didn't think they did anything for or against the bag, purely cosmetic I think. Someone mentioned that the duffel bag handels were a problem, I didn't find them to be. They fold nicely into the space between the lateral foam supports.

Overall, I can see this bag being perfect for the urban adventurer or frequent traveler who needs a strong bag for going between airports and hotels, or running about on a weekend adventure. For those who are looking for a bag to live out of for months at a time, I would get similarly sized Deuter with waist straps and better ventilation.

This is an impressively versatile bag that can be carried like a normal duffel bag or worn like a backpack. It even has a built in hard case for your goggles or glasses. I am pleasantly surprised at how many useful pockets this bag has and how stylish yet utilitarian it is. It's a bit on the expensive side though and the backpack straps don't seem to be removable which for me is a only a minor quibble.

The main issue I have with this duffel is the zipper is quite weak. On a recent trip with it packed full, the zipper bursted open, causing my a big headache. I was able to fix it but it was a major hassle. The zipper is just plastic and should have been made out of heavy duty metal.

High Sierra Neo Backpack

I compared 4 High Sierra backpack models: Neo (this model), AccessHigh Sierra Access Backpack, Mayhem High Sierra Mayhem Backpack, and Incline High Sierra Incline Backpack. I'm a 5'2" woman. For my uses (carryon for travel/day hikes), I selected this Neo model. If they'd change the yoke style shoulder straps to 2 single shoulder straps, change accents from purple/gray to black, make the back access zipper 1/2 inch longer, and add side compression straps, it would be a perfect pack. The Yoke style straps tend to dig into the back of my neck unless I keep the pack at a lower position. All 4 packs had tags indicating that they could hold a 17" laptop. The Access and Incline could not hold my Dell 17" Inspiron. All 4 packs had pouches in the shoulder straps. The only pack that could hold my iphone in an otterbox case was this Neo model. Three of the models including this one, had a larger and probably more durable zippers than the Incline model. The padding on the bottom seems the same on all models. The raincover on the Access provides some extra padding when the raincover is in the hidden pouch. The padding on the backs of the packs seem to be about the same. I didn't use the packs, so I can't comment on the ventilation/airflow materials at the back of the packs.

One of the bottom side zippered pockets can hold a drink, but the pocket extends into the interior of the pack taking up interior room.

Bigger than expected. Rated at just 2320 cu in, but held more than the Mayhem (2565) and Access (2743). My measurements are 20x13x10.5 (not counting side pockets) = 2730 cu in

Cons:

Yoke style shoulder straps dig into back of my neck. Need to keep pack lower than I'd like. Prefer 2 single shoulder straps.

No Adjustable side compression straps

Prefer the Black Accent on other models to the purple/gray accent on this model.

Back access zipper could be about 1/2 inch longer for easier removal of 17" laptop.

First month of high school and the back pack has been used every day. Holds a few 3-ring binders and a few books along with a water bottle, phone, id card, and more. It holds a lot and has many pockets and lots of organization. No problems so far. Great aqua color. Watch out, though. It holds so much you can bring too much and have a sore back after a few weeks of carrying everything. Leave extra or heavy items home if you can.

Update: 7th month of high school and still holding up! No holes. All zippers working well! Excellent school back pack for high school or middle school.

I'm always very skeptical with buying backpacks.. Especially online. However, i bought the High sierra Curve about 4 years ago and it lasted forever. That one was awesome. I wanted to try something new so i tried the Neo. And I think this one is as good if not better. I've used it for one semester of college so far and it seems to be holding up fine. Something that you can't see in the picture is that this backpack has so much space in the inside. I can easily fit my laptop, multiple large books, a bottle of water, rubick's cube, and numerous other of the things i keep in inside my backpack. Great backpack for the price!

The idea of the mustache combined with the zebra print is perfect! Love the look, but the material is cheap, not sure it would hold up to several books or long term use.

I got this backpack to start college with, yea I know little childish aint it. I only paid 3 dollars more for the matching lunch box which was very cool. It is my daughters favorite cartoon which was why I picked it. Soon she will be getting to go to daycare then on to school and will need it.

My first grade daughter loved this back pack when she got it. Compartments and pockets were great and it had space for everything. I thought it would be tough enough to withstand first grade, being a Dickies. The largest zipper lasted four months and the liner that seperates two of the compartments only lasted six months!! Really? My daughter is not rough on her belongings. This stinks, now I have to purchase another. I would not reccommend this back pack at all!
