I bought this backpack and have been using it for over a year at this point. This pack is perfect for anyone who travels a lot for work.

Construction of the pack iteself is solid as other reviews have noted. The material is heavy duty. The stictching is well reinforced. Pulls on this pack are made out of sturdy metal pieces. Even the handle on the top is stitched well then reinforced with rivets which allows the pack to hang quite nicely off the front of a roller board luggage hook.

Other Pros:

Comes with a separate zip pouch (removable). I use this for my charging plugs, cords, etc.

There are lots of pockets in which to store and organize your stuff

The middle compartment is large. Some people want dividers here, but I think it's perfect to allow for slightly larger items.

The back computer compartment unzips and folds out like a butterfly allowing you to push it through metal detectors without having to remove your laptop (as long as nothing else is stored in there with it).

Cons:

Price: The backpack is rather expensive. Worth it if you travel a lot for work.

Weight: Because it is sturdy and roomy it weighs more than other bags. I'm a 5'2" woman and I find this acceptable.

Size: Both a plus and a minus. You can store lots of stuff. This bag is a bit too wide to easily store, however, under an airline seat on the aisle (those seats are narrower than the window and middle seats in many planes). That means storing in an overhead bin always if you have the side pockets full.

With a year's worth of use on this bag, I have yet to identify any real ware and/or failure on the bag. So far, it's been very reliable and useful.

Very durable and a lot of space. Not light at all. But a nice choice for road warriors! T pass is very good to save time

i've been looking for a more functional and appropriate carry-on bag to be used for long haul trips to international destinations (not adventure travel) focused on culture and cities. My goal was a bag that passes through TSA easily, has separate computer spot and mutliple pockets to accomodate all accessories, snacks, batteries, etc. This bag does the trick, I am able to put my computer and ipad in the TSA approved pocket. Inside i am able to securely pack a Nikon DSL with 16-85 lens, 50mm lens, binoculars, with ample room to add magazines, headphones, snacks, and compact tripod. I am using the very top outside pocket to house lens cleaning equipment and sunglasses. The left pocket has all my power accessories, the right pocket has my international GPS with power. the two front pockets will hold passport and filters, lens caps.

Now it does not come with the all the foam dividers , but that is easily adjusted for by using a t-shirt and buying a foam block that you can customize to your needs.

I first saw this backpack in line at the airport in the back of the person in front of me in line. The first thing you'll notice is the quality construction. Metal pulls, reinforced heavy duty zippers, more packets than a pack of kangaroos, and a very clean design. I was sold immediately when the person in front of me quickly unzipped the laptop side, laid the backpack down for the x-ray, and flipped over the laptop portion without having to take it all apart. A very nice feature.

This backpack also carries really well on your shoulders when both straps are used. the load balances well and it's as comfortable as it gets.

Drawbacks? There are two:

The price is close to a "get what you pay for" value but still a bit high even for that. If I did not travel as much as I do I would not have justified this backpack.

The weight is what you make of it. The backpack itself is not particularly heavy but it has a surprising amount of storage. Net result is you have to self manage pretty closely to keep your trips comfortable. This thing will easily hold enough to remind you when you haven't worked out lately. The center pouch alone is cavernous. I have been able to easily carry two full size laptops and their accessories in this when needed. I don't recommend it though unless you like your chiropractor.

Overall I highly recommend this Tumi. Learn to self manage what you put into it and you'll mitigate the weight issue.

That's a very nice backpack for the ones who ride bikes. I bought the mid-size, and there's room for a lot of things, like one week of groceries. And it's very confortable when riding, the weight is very divided along the back.

The material is waterproof, so it's ok to ride in the rain.

The only downside is the belly strap that is very thin, and don't help much.

Definitely recommend.

Osprey Variant 52 Pack

I've only had the pack out once but it performed great. I carried my ski boots, crampons, axe, skins, helmet, hydration pack and other basic gear in the pack and skis (with AT bindings) on the outside for most of a 4 mile approach. The pack was very stable and the load surprisingly compact. I plan on using the pack for summer backpacking as well and will gladly carry a little extra weight for all the features. The pack seems very rugged (from initial impression) and well designed.

I owned two other Osprey packs prior to buying the Variant 52, so I knew the degree of quality and craftsmanship that I would be coming with a new pack. I bought the Variant 52 for 4-season hiking, camping and mountaineering. I was uncertain of how large this pack would be since usually there is no scale reference in most of the product images, but after loading it up, it was the perfect size. It is large enough to fit every piece of standard equipment I had with plenty of room left over. Despite not coming with a specific sleeping bag compartment like you find in many larger-volume packs, there is ample space inside the main compartment if you use a compression bag. I was used to the AirSpeed mesh suspension system of the Stratos 24, so I was less impressed with the back panel of the Variant 52, although it is still amazing. The hip belts are not as cumbersome as those found on other Osprey packs since they don't have those annoying structured pockets. Instead, the Variant has two neutral hip belts with gear loops, which I think is a much better use of the hip belts. In addition to these gear loops on the hip belts, there are two gear loops attached to the sides of the pack. These will be amazing when I go climbing because I can keep all quickdraws, trad gear, etc. on there instead of on a sling around my neck. The fastening system on the Variant is brilliant both with respect to gear attachments and to just the compression straps and top-loading compartment closure. Also, I was surprised to learn that despite being over twice as large by volume as the Stratos 24, the Variant still fit my small Osprey rainfly that came with the Stratos 24. Other than these astounding design upgrades, the Variant is a beautiful bag and is worth twice its weight in gold (a comment also about its weight). As with any Osprey pack, you know it is built to last. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for any hiking pack, but especially if you need a pack for climbing or mountaineering. I will certainly be putting the Variant through its paces over the next year and am certain it will function masterfully.

Voltaic 1010 OffGrid Solar Backpack

I wanted to know what actually happen when I have only one or two charge lights on (not blinking); is it charging in this case? So today I rigged up some

plug and I connected a power analyzer between the storage battery and the pannel. I placed the solar pannel against the window so I don't have direct sun light.

in this set up, I got two non-blinking charge lights and the power analyzer reported a current of 0.0 to 0.03 Amp entering the storage battery (most of the time,

there is no current at all). So this means that when the charging lights are not blinking even if they are on, there is not much charging going on.

On the other in direct sun light, it is different. In this case, the lights are blinking and I can get something like 0.3 to 0.5 Amp.

I always have the storage battery (one that came with the backpack) plugged into the pannel. I found that even when I am not using the battery to charge anything,

it will drain quickly when it is not being charged in the sun light. For example after being out of the sunlight for 12 hours, I lost one charge light. It went

from 4 charge lights to 3. I do not like the almost-to-nothing documentation that came with this product. It never explain any of this. Why is the battery

drain too quickly when I am not using it?

I finaly get enough summer sun light to test this backpack charging ability. This is what I found. The storage battery's charging lights will only be blinking

sequentialy (indicating that the battery is being charged) when in direct sun light. When not in direct sun light (like near a window), the charging lights are not blinking, but one or sometime two charging lights will be on. What

does this means in this case? Is the battery being charged in this case? I really do not know (the documentation is not clear on this). I assume

that the battery is being charged at low capacity (at least I hope that is the case) and I also assume that

the number of lights that are on indicate the charging capacity.

Also even in direct sun light, the solar panel's output charging current is not as high as the current drawn by the cell phone so when I am charging my Nokia cell

phone while walking or riding my bike in direct sun light, the storage battery will be drain. This means that my cell may not be completely charged and the

storage battery may be completely drained. This is especially true if the storage battery is not fully charged at the start of a charging session. This is disapointing because what is the point if I have to fully charged the storage battery at home before begining a trip. I would like to be able to charge my cell and still have enough excess current to charge the storage battery as well. The longer I use this backpack, the more I am disapointed with its performance.

Well I have been using this backpack for 4 months now and it is ripped in a dozen places. I have had it repaired three time

now. I am not happy! Please do not buy this product. I am lucky I am traveling outside the US where there are many shops

that will repaire my backpack. In the US where there is no such repair shops, this backpack would have been completely useless and I would

have thrown it away after a few months of use. I do not recomend buying this backpack.

Due to the winter I have not be able to test the solar charging feature. But the backpack fabric quality is terrible!

When I ordered this backpack, I picked the charcoal pennel. But I got an email from the seller telling me that they "accidentally"

shipped the silver pennel. They wanted to know if that is OK or I can wait two extra days and they will ship me the charcoal pennel.

I thought it's not a big deal so I say OK, I'll take the silver one.

Well when I got the backpack, it had a small wear near the pennel zipper that made it hard to zip an unzip the pennel pocket. I was not

happy but I did not want to deal with returning and reshipping so I let it go. I know, I can not say for sure that they intentionaly sent me

faulty backpack but I am saying I did get a weird feeling in this case. If my subspicion is correct, I think it is extremely unprofessional of

them.

I had not used the backpack until a month ago when I went on a 200km biking trip. On this trip the backpack fabric torned (ripped) in three places.

All near the front pocket. It was not the threading that got ripped. It was the fabric near the threading area the got ripped) Fortunately, I was traveling in an Asian city where they can repair backpack. Thus I had it repaired and it seems fine.

but I have to be very carefull to not load the backpack too much again.

I owned two other non-solar backpacks and I regularly overloaded ( to a much higher degree than I loaded the solar backpack) them for a year now and it never ripped.

It is winter time so I have not fully test the solar charging feature but where I was biking, there considerable sun light and my cell phone

almost completely drain the battery in the backpack. Thus at this point I don't have much confident in the solar charging feature but I will

wait until summer time to test in full direct sunlight and I will give an update.

Very happy with my purchase! Great quality pack, excellent construction and the solar panels and battery are top quality. my only complaint is it needs more internal space a 15" macbook in neoprene skin only just fits into the rear laptop compartment, and I regularly carry 2 plus other items.

Pro: It has adapters for almost everything! nice sturdy panels, plenty pockets and lots of space.

Works awesomely under the scorching Panamanian sun, finally getting something back out of all that sweating.

This backpack is light, carrying the battery and all of the extras it has.

You can separate the panels from the bag and put the panels where they can get more sunlight.

Cons: used the bag two times and it already ripped, i took it out just to walk around the city doing errands nothing too extreme and then I realized the second pocket from the panels back, just where the zipper starts, the stitches got loose and now I have like an Inch wide opening between the pocket and the zipper.

My phone(Samsung Galaxy S2) doesn't fit in the phone pocket on the shoulder strap.

TL;DR: Nice features, sturdy panels, lightweight, charges pretty fast under direct sunlight conditions, backpack could be better stitched. I will definitely go with a 2.0 version if it ever comes out.

Travelpro Crew 8 22 Inch Expandable Rollaboard Suiter

I'm an airline pilot and have been using 22" Travelpro Rollaboards for the past 15 years. Recently the handle on my Crew 5 broke. Coincidentally my bag arrived broken after checking it on a recent trip. I have found that my Travelpro bags last indefinitely and look like new if I keep them in my control as carry-on bags but it only takes a few times as checked baggage to ruin them.

So I decided to order the Crew 8 since my handle was broken on the Crew 5 and I was awaiting a replacement handle. Every Travelpro bag I've upgraded to has been a continual process of improvement with the new bag being nicer than the previous in layout and features. Unfortunately this was not the case with the Crew 8. I am a professional traveler and pack very efficiently into a 22' bag. I can go on a 10 day trip with the contents, no problem. The Crew 8 has only 2 external zippered compartments while the Crew 5 had 4. If you like to have access to some items without having to open the bag and rifle through the contents then the Crew 8 is a downgrade from the Crew 5. The Crew 8 looks good from the outside but the inside is very basic. It's almost as if Travelpro took an off-the-shelf bag available from China and put their badge on it. I basically pack a similar version of the same contents into my bag for each trip. I tried to get the same contents I routinely pack into my Crew 5 into the Crew 8 and it was very difficult. There is no carrier for toiletries and other misc. items like in the Crew 5. There is no compartment on the inside of the lid (just a simple zippered net) where I would put t-shirts, socks, pants, etc. Funny thing is, after I had the Crew 8 packed it looked bloated and stuffed compared to having the same items in the Crew 5. The Crew 5 was a well thought out, functional bag for the professional traveler. The Crew 8 in my opinion is a bag to take when you can pack lightly for a long weekend at best.

A few years back, Travelpro split its luggage lines into two series: The "CrewX" series is designed to be pretty and marketed to consumers, while the "FlightCrewX" is designed to be rugged and is marketed directly to pilots and crew. The "Crew8" series is the current version marketed to consumers and the "FlightCrew4" is the current version that is marketed to pilots and crew.

I bought this bag before I came to this realization, and have been disappointed ever since. I hate the design of this bag. While it is light, it is much too flimsy to any kind of heavy duty use. Travelpro included a relatively cheap, but pretty design on the attachment strap and the short handle, both of which are sure to break with significant use. They've also rotated the axis of the long handle so as to make it harder to slide an extra bag over them. The front pockets are designed for appearance instead of utility, and so the zippers have a funny looking "U" shape and the pockets actually overlap, while being too thin to really hold anything. The nylon is a thin weave designed to have a nice "shine" instead of being resistant to damage.

I later purchased a Travelpro FlightCrew4 22" bag from an online store that caters to pilots and flight crew. What a bag! Nice sturdy ABS frame, real inline skating wheels, heavy duty handles with the axis in the correct direction, well-laid out pockets, and heavy duty nylon -and $40 cheaper! The only problem is that it is a bit larger than Travelpro claims. So, now I use the 20" instead.

I also own a Kirkland 22" suiter (available only at Costco), which is better than this one and only $99.00.

So, do yourself a favor: Skip anything in the Crew8 series (or any of Travelpro's consumer lines) and buy the FlightCrew4 from an online retailer or get the 22" Kirkland at Costco.

I am a frequent traveler and carry-on whenever possible. My go-to bag was a 24" Victorinox. Like all of my Victorinox bags, this failed on my last trip leaving with the need to replace it on short notice. I went online and read reviews on many bags and Travelpro kept coming up as a good affordable option. I currently have a large Travelpro bag and I'm happy with it so I figured I would give the smaller version a try so i purchased on my Prime account with overnight delivery. The bag arrived as advertised and the quality was better than I could imagine.

My first observation was that this 22" bag was expandable so I could "sneak" a couple extra days worth of clothes into an overhead approved bag. I did so on my first trip out. I was amazed that the bag still fit into the overhead wheels first. As any traveler knows, this makes finding a space for your bag much easier than.

Another observations was the substantial feel of the handle. This was the part on my Victorinox that failed so it was important to me that the handle be able to support the weight of my backpack resting up against it. The bag also rolled freely over carpet, tile and asphalt. It was very easy to move around. And it stood straight even when expanded.

I have to say that one of my favorite surprises is the water bottle holder. This simple zip-out compartment easily folds a standard 16 to 24 ounce water bottle making it accessible when you need it. A great feature for sure!

All in all I'd have to say that I[m thrilled with the bag. I think I paid under $140 delivered. I stopped into Dillards the other day and teh same bag there was $400. Amazon came through yet again!

The first time I attempted to use this luggage was on 1-27-2011 on Continental Airlines.

While the advertised size is the correct dimensions of the main frame of the bag including a advertised width of 9 inches, the true width of the bag even with nothing in the front pockets and the main bag NOT expanded is slightly over 10 1/2 inches. It was the width of the bag that kept it from fitting into the metal frame provided by Continental airlines that only allows a 9 inch width. At the boarding area I was required to check the bag at the time of boarding. I had to remove my laptop and other fragile items to put in a tiny tote which was the only other thing I had with me for this trip.

The large zipper pocket on the front of the bag is designed to hold a laptop computer. My laptop did fit in the pocket while the bag was laying on a flat surface for the purpose of packing. Upon removing the laptop at airport security screening, the zipper on the front pocket separated when opening, and I could not zip the pocket closed.

This is the first time I have used this bag for travel, and it was a nightmare. First it is not the advertised size, so I had to check it, rather than being able to carry it on the plane. The items packed in the bag were considered safe for carry on, but not for normal handling of luggage.

The fact the zipper did not function properly on the very first use, was a serious issue as well.

For the cost and the reputation of this luggage, I am a very unsatisfied customer.

I bought it through Altman Luggage via Amazon. Total price was $159 including shipping. The case took exactly one week from the point I ordered through Amazon to when it arrived on my doorstep.

The case is much lighter than my generic brand 22inch roller I got from my dad many years ago. While the small booklet states that the case will not meet airline carry-on regulations when expanded, I have a feeling that it will fit in most non-regional overhead bins even when expanded.

The biggest issue I have is that the 22inch does not have inner mesh pockets inside the larger outer pocket, as the marketing photos on some websites show. (The pockets I'm talking about are not the two mesh pockets that are in the main compartment of the case). Many luggage sellers, including Amazon, show the same marketing photo for the 20inch and the 22inch models, where the outer pocket is opened and there are mesh pockets in there that hold an iPhone, pens, wallet, etc as well as a laptop sleeve. My 22inch does not have any of these pockets and sleeves. My cell phone, keys, wallets, and tickets will all be at the bottom of a fairly deep pocket, and not organized as in the photos. The lack of these small compartments to hold such items led me to take two stars off from my review. (Even $50 bags sold at Walmart have them)

Both the wheels and the handles seem fine, though I'm not sure how durable the plastic handle will be if I ever need to pick up the case at the handle when the case is packed full.

Overall, I'm happy with the case, but am disappointed by the misleading marketing photos.

I love this bag. I live in Juneau, AK and I wanted a cute bag that would stand up against all the rain! I love that the bag is coated. If it wasn't, it would be ruined very quickly in this climate! I like that the diapers and wipes are kept handy in the front. The PPB wipes case is a bonus! I haven't used it as a backpack yet, but I'm very pleased to have that option. I've gotten a lot of compliments on this bag. Highly recommend it.

I fell in love with this bag a week after I received it ... Of course that's when I finally packed it for the arrival of my baby the bag is very durable and looks like it could handle anything even over packing I like the fact that I still had lots of room left for more stuff ... I plan on cloth diapering after I'm out of all the disposable ones I got for my baby shower so I know I should have plenty of room for my extras that come along with cloth diapering. How ever there are a few things I wish we're adressed ... The top of the bag needs to open wider so when you are puting and taking things out it is easier also the inside of the bag is black so it is very dark inside a lighter color would work better. Last I wish the stroller straps were included with the perchase because that is just one more thing u have to remember to pack and with a baby it can be easy to forget. I know some of the other bags come with the straps. I do plan on purchasing another ppb for longer trips I also have a five year old daughter and she will be needing space to. But over all I really love love this bag I'm so happy with the purchase

The only negative I can see is that Brenthaven has gone away from the heavier cordura nylon and big beefy zippers. My last brenthaven bag was purchased 10 years ago and is still in use. I don't see this one lasting that long but time will tell.

I've had this backpack for a month or two now and I use it for commuting to work either by car or by bicycle. I have a pretty large Lenovo laptop in there and it fits with not much extra room in the laptop sleeve. The tablet sleeve fits my iPad with smart cover with no problems and there's still plenty of extra room in that area if I wanted. The other compartment has plenty of different types of pockets to hold pens, chargers, phones, cables, ipods, etc. I still haven't filled all of them. On the sides there is an area for a water bottle and also a zippered pocket for whatever other small things.

The backpack has reflective strips on the front straps and on the back to keep you visible at night when riding a bike, which is a nice touch. The zippers and material are all very high quality and don't seem like they will break. The handle on the top of the bag does seem smaller and weak compared to the rest of the bag, but it hasn't broken or even seemed strained even with heavy loads, so I might just be crazy. Overall, the build quality is very good, which is what I'd expect from Brenthaven.

I'm not sure how it would be for different laptops, but for mine, the top of it sticks up above the sleeve inside the bag a little bit. If something dropped onto the top of my laptop or if it fell upside down, the laptop is not protected. The sleeve is otherwise padded all around. I'm really not getting into very many dangerous circumstances with my laptop, so it's not a big deal, but if you're looking for maximum laptop protection, you may want to find another bag or put your laptop in a different sleeve before putting it in here.

This bag holds my 15.6" Toshiba laptop and my iPad in a hard case with bluetooth keyboard with no problems. The padding is very nice but not overwhelming. It has a nylon strap that fits over the laptop and iPad to hold both or either one in place while in the bag. The side pouch holds a water bottle or energy drink safely and easily. The outside "pouch" fits several different things and has elastic straps to snug things down. It has a few smaller pockets inside that will hold an iPod or a phone. It has one pocket that has the same style nylon strap to hold down a small point and shoot camera as well. The shoulder straps are padded and comfortable and it has a sternum strap that is nice if you want to balance the weight a bit more. I use it while riding my scooter back and forth to work and everything is in place when I get to work or home. I definitely recommend this bag.

Having used Tamrac gear for years, I have been impressed by the excellent build quality and sharp appearance of their products. Generally the materials are high quality, very durable, and the workmanship superb. From a materials and construction standpoint, the E6 is solid, and pretty close to indestructible.

The main interior compartment is very well constructed, and custom configurable. There is ample padding all around, and the adjustable dividers are quite thick. The compartment is about six inches deep, with two nylon straps in the middle section for extra security for securing a camera or lens. On the lid are two large zippered compartments, made of heavy duty clear plastic. The padded laptop compartment, is in the lid section, and will accommodate a computer up to about 14 inches. I was able to get all the gear listed above into the backpack, and also squeeze in a large Gary Fong type diffuser, lens hoods, and a small point and shoot camera as well.

Tamrac products are designed well, but are not perfect. In general, they do a great job with the main compartment, but could do with some design improvements for the outside pockets and auxiliary storage spaces. Such is the case with this backpack. Tamrac has a fixation with memory and battery storage. The two vertical compartments on the back of the E6 each contain three tiny pockets, devoted to these items. If the goal was to cosmetically display memory cards, rather than provide spaces designed to carry a significant amount of gear, it is achieved. Not much can be carried in these spaces, since the compartments are small, and not very deep. I don't even use the spaces for the items they were intended for. I carry four extra memory cards in a Hakuba case, and spare camera batteries in another case. These are both stored inside the pack. I squeeze what I can into the tiny red tagged pockets, but these are not well utilized spaces.

The center pocket at the bottom of the back cover, is designed to accommodate two of the three legs of a mid-sized tripod, and has an additional sheet of hard plastic liner inside for protection. While the setup works as designed, the pocket is perhaps wider than it needs to be. When you insert two tripod legs in the pocket, zipping it up on either side, is no easy task. Not the best design, and again another space that is not utilized very well. A suggestion would be to reduce the size of the tripod pocket and enlarge the two side pockets to run the full height of the pack, and make them deeper, so more gear can be carried. The fasteners on the straps for the tripod get loose too easily.

Saving the worst for last, rather than provide any usable pockets, pouches or compartments on the sides of the pack, there are only provisions for attaching additional accessories, using Tamrac's Modular Accessory System (MAS). This approach is infuriating! For what this costs, I expect a backpack that enables me to carry as much gear as is practically possible. Instead users are expected to pay extra for that capability. Tamrac's MAS and Strap Accessory System (SAS) components are expensive, and generally only marginally useful. Customizable separately attached carriers and pouches may appeal to some, but with sewed on pockets or carriers, you won't need to be concerned that an add-on component might get caught on something and get detached. No doubt Tamrac would say that they are providing `versatility' to the customer. Great, but at what cost? If you add four MAS components at $15 to $20 each, that adds up to the cost of another small bag! If MAS has to be integrated, how about putting provisions for MAS only on one side of the pack, and providing built-in pockets, straps and a bottle holder on the other side? At least give the user some additional storage space! Adding pockets or compartments on the shoulder straps is another possible improvement. Even a simple pen holder would be nice.

Some backpacks have the computer compartment located just behind the padded backrest, which might be a more secure design. Transporting your gear safely is one matter, and being able to conveniently access your things once you get to your destination is another. With the E6, access is convenient, however you obviously need to be careful whenever you have a laptop in the computer compartment, as there is no strap to keep the computer in place, and the weight makes the lid swing like a pendulum. If you happen to forget to zip up the compartment, the lid could flip open and your computer could bang something or even slip out. Basically, if you forget to zipper up, any unsecured objects stored in the lid of the E6 could fall out, when you flip the lid open or closed. It has happened to me a couple of times, but fortunately it was only some accessories that fell out, and not a laptop.

Since the other backpacks in the Expedition line are similar in design, most of these comments apply to them as well. There was potential for this series of backpacks to be really outstanding, and with a few modifications they very easily could be. The interior compartment is well-designed, the overall build quality is excellent, and the addition of the laptop compartment is an improvement over the previous version of the E6. This backpack can carry a lot of gear, and should last for years. Unfortunately, because of some poor design choices, maximum utility is not achieved. Still even with the shortcomings, the E6 solidly met my basic needs. Tamrac gear is not perfect, but their high quality, competitively priced products, often tops the competition.

I did quite a bit of research before ordering this bag including going by retail outlets to try bags on. I had originally ordered a Kata R-106, but much to my dismay, it was huge!. I travel quite a bit for my job and wanted a bag that allowed me to take my camera equipment and my laptop, and can fit under the seat on the airplane.

My goals when looking for a new camera bag:

Needs to fit all of my camera equipment (4 lenses of varying lengths, 1 flash, vertical grip &, 1 dslr body)

Needs to fit the accessories that go with the camera charger, cords, extra batteries, storage, etc.

And most importantly fit my 15" MacBook Pro (2007 version).

Fit a female frame (I have found that many camera backpacks do not take female anatomy into account and place the breast strap in a very uncomfortable place for the girls)

Light, well padded and easy to carry

Have a place for a water bottle

I decided to go with this bag because it fit all of the above criteria. My laptop barely fits, though. I had to take out the bottom Velcro piece of padding (there is still some that is build in) to get it to fit, which is nice and snug. If i keep my incase sleeve on the laptop, it fits as well, but the zipper has stress points at the corners of the laptop. Although there is not a water bottle holder on this bag, it can be ordered from the list of accessories that come with the bag (MX5398) or I can just clip a bottle on.

I have not taken the bag on the airplane yet, but thus far, I am happy with this purchase. The bag has weatherproof zippers for the wing pockets and computer compartment and has a weather "hood" over the camera section and tripod foot pocket (including a drainage hole in the foot pocket).

Indeed it is a durable bag that meets my needs.

The Expedition 6x is an excellent carry all backpack for the offroad photographer. I use it to carry my Nikon D80 with a mounted medium telephoto, a long tele, another mid tele, 2 smaller lenses. Additionally I carry a full set of 11 Cokin filters with adapter rings and holders, a light meter and a small flash unit. There is plenty of space for circular filters and an assortment of accessories, with room to spare for a future lens purchase. I'll start by saying that this is a solid backpack. It is sewn together well, and I have not had any trouble with loose strings, or anything falling apart. This backpack can be used for skaters who need a place to put their board, general use, or even a laptop backpack.

Personally, I use this backpack for work so I constantly carry a laptop. There is a good amount of padding in the laptop slot, although there is not a strap over the laptop slot, which shouldn't matter unless you plan on hanging upside down. It securely holds your laptop in place.

I think this backpack is well design for the sport or busy girl b/c of its many compartments. When I got it, I started moving my things over to this bag and I could not fit everything in this bag. When I looked more closely, I saw that the bottom of the bag was not wide enough and I could not carry my water bottle in it.

I brought this bag to replace the mini backpack I already have, but I think I will probably just buy a new one of my old backpack. It's the same size as the FUL bag.

I compared a lot of backpacks before purchasing this... I was aiming for a sturdy yet still aesthetically pleasing backpack that could serve me well & tow plenty -whether with a few things in one day (and not be crazy loose-yay bottom straps!) or with tons on a trip to Uganda. And this bag does it!!

No matter how much I've put in it so far, it remains comfortable... all previous bags I've had are very uncomfortable when toting my laptop or other weighty item-but this one distributes the weight pretty perfectly. And doesn't come forward onto your head if you lean over!

The only criticism I'd give at this point is that the zipper on the bottom right front pocket is a bit cut off -if it went an inch or two higher it would be easier to use and access that particular pocket.

The pack has the right idea ... I wanted a few smaller pockets to organize the things I carry on business trips. However, I found the pockets on the front to be too small to be practical. One (bottom right as you look at the pack) was so small I could just barely get my fingers in it; I found that to find the item I wanted I had to empty the contents, sort around, then put everything else back. Take those same pockets and change the aspect ratio so they open at the top and go across the width of the pack, and it might be a keeper.

It's also maybe a lefty's quibble, but the one-side-only access to the laptop pocket was awkward for me. I'd have preferred that it opened from the top (or the other side). That said, I liked the red lining.

On the plus side, I liked the overall profile of the pack, a little slimmer than my old one. It seems like it would fit well under an airplane seat. And it's large central pocket would have worked well. I didn't go over it too carefully, but construction quality seemed fine.

While I had some personal differences with the design and wound up returning the pack, for others it would quite likely work well.

I had this backpack in my "Shopping Bag" for a long time. I loved it as soon as I came across it on Amazon, but it was always something I wanted more than needed. I finally had some extra money and decided that since it was such a good price, and I still loved it , I would just go ahead and make the purchase. I am glad I did! I love love love the color and the fact that it is so different from every other bag I see out there. Here are some pro's and con's about this bag...

Pro's:

-The color!!! So bright and bold :)

-The material, stitching, zippers and padding are all very sturdy, well made and high quality

-The front pocket has some nice slots to put pens, cell phone, iPod or whatever you want

-There is also a front pocket that is higher up that is lined and very soft, it says it is for sunglasses but I use it for my stethoscope

-The straps have very good padding and can be lengthened a lot

Con's:

-It is a little stiff, but I am sure it will loosen up the more I use it

-The main compartment isn't as big as my last backpack.. and as a Paramedic student, I have a lot of material to carry around

-There is no side pocket for a water bottle

All together, I really like this bag. I would like to have a place to put my water bottle, but it won't kill me to carry it or use a carabiner to attach it. Also, like I said, the main compartment could be bigger... I know they are loading students with more and more homework and books and some might not be able to fit everything they need in this pack, but so far I haven't had any problems.

Took this on a trip to the Bahamas and it was perfect to hold all my snorkel equipment (fins, mask, snorkel), clothes, snack and a beach towel!!

This is the most perfect backpack ever created. It is sturdy and large. It has well size compartments. It has water bottle holders, and as with all sierra back packs, the straps are very comfortable. Unfortunately, however, the zippers are really poorly made. After a year of heavy use, they broke, and what good is a back pack with broken zippers. Admittedly, I often carry a lot in my backpack, but the last one I had was good for six years, so I don't think it is me. If you can treat the zippers gently, this is the backpack for you.

Gave to my older child as a gift who is very rough on clothes and accessories. This bag has held up well, not lost its shape or color. Good product for a fair price.

I abuse backpacks,I admit, and after being dropped and dragged in the mud and dirt, thrown, and stepped and taken on every hike I have been on for about a year; it's still kicking. I do wish it had a chest strap like my last backpack, it really helps disperse the weight and there is less of an uncomfortable pull on you shoulders but the thick straps are good and I love the phone pocket located on the shoulder strap.

High Sierra Classic Series 59501 Appalachian 75 Internal Frame Pack

When I received my Appalachian 75 I was very pleased with the amount of compartments and places where you can hang items like a camp axe or sleeping pad. The orange interior enables you to spot things easier inside the main compartment when you are looking for something. The rain cover is great and folds nicely in the bottom. The harness fits snug around my waist and over my shoulders. I can fit enough stuff in this bag that would last me for a 5 to 7 day backpacking trip.

One the downside I noticed a few things that would get very annoying. First thing is the shoulder straps keep loosening right after I tighten them. Because of this, it makes it where you cannot tighten them as much as you want which in the end creates sway and a loose feeling on the top of the pack. I might be able to remedy this by sharpening the teeth on the belt clip. Second thing I noticed was one of the straps that run vertical across the length of my bag, to add support, is stitched incorrectly. Only half of the strap is stitched which looks like it might come apart with more use. The last thing, and is minor, is the zippers. If you want to pack an average sized sleeping bag or fill up your compartments to the brim, be prepared to spend a great deal of time zipping them up. The placement and size of the zippers allow there to be some difficulty in zipping up.

Conclusion: I am happy with the pack because of the amount of things I can bring with me. The features are great! I am just disappointed in some of the manufacturing flaws that I have to spend time on fixing myself.

Let me start off by saying that I would definitely recommend this backpack. I love the fact that it is top loading and front loading. I also like the removable day pack that doubles as the lid or top of the pack, and the sleeping bag compartment that can be zippered off on the inside of the bag to create a completely separate section. I also like that the bag comes with its own rain cover which is conveniently stored at the very bottom of the bag under the sleeping bag section. The bottom of the bag has an opening that allows you to access the rain cover by simply opening the Velcro and pulling the rain cover out. You will have to remove anything that you strap to the bottom of the bag by the two latching compression straps in order to access the rain cover opening. Having the rain cover at the bottom of the bag also provides cushion should you choose to use the sleeping bag area for other items.

With this bag I was able to carry loads over 40 lbs. very comfortably. I would especially recommend this pack to those who are just getting started in backpacking since it is "Very" user friendly. Having said that, this pack would be even better for the more experienced backpacker since they would know more about the ins and outs of packing it. The pack is also very versatile for body types since it is very adjustable for differing torso lengths.

I am 6'01 and weigh 230 lbs and I have not hiked in years and I have never owned a hiking backpack, I have used hunting backpacks. Therefore, I spent literally weeks researching backpacks on the internet and at the local small outfitter. I looked at all brands and all price ranges. I knew that I was not going to go out and spend thousands to get the lightest tent, sleeping pad, mess kit, etc. So I knew that I needed a larger pack. I will also say that I am not a weight weenie. I am a full time police officer and I have walked around, and run around, for over 21 years with over 30 lbs. of gear being worn daily.

I went to the outfitters and saw how small a 55 and 65 liter bag was so I began to look at 75 liter bags and above. I was eventually impressed with all the positive reviews of the High Sierra Appalachian Trail 75 liter bag. I was even more impressed that I was able to get it with free shipping for only $90 dollars.

I purchased the bag and have used it twice on approx 8 mile hikes with one being an overnight hike. I will say that the the belt issue (being too large for small wasted people) that many speak of could be a problem if your waste is too small. Having said that, my daughter who is an average size 12 year old and has a waist far smaller than 32 inches. She asked to carry the pack on a hike and I was able to adjust both the back setting and the belt to nearly fit her perfectly.

Some have reviewers have complained about the bag weighing too much. My response to that is, first off it is a 75 liter pack and therefore will weigh more because it is a large pack, secondly the pack is built to last, and lastly it has well padded straps and hip belt which add weight. It is possible to cut the packs weight by a few ounces by cutting off any extra length from the generously long straps, especially on the waist stap.

I will say that once you get your load strapped down tight with the multiple tightening straps, and you get the pack dialed in for your body, the pack carries heavy loads very comfortably. My pack weight is over 40 lbs.

I have have no complaints with this bag. I love it. I can carry all my equipment and necessities inside the bag. It is also very convenient because it is top and front loading. There could also be access through the sleeping bag storage area if you chose too. I would truly recommend this pack to anyone.

03/14/12 Update. I have been on many day hikes using this pack. I have carried loads from 30 to 40 lbs, up to nine miles. I have never had any issues with the straps coming loose. I have not had any troubles with the zippers either. The more I use this pack, the more I like it. As said above, this pack is better than some that cost twice as much. I just went on a six mile hike today with a 30 lb. pack. I had the pack dialed in and the 30 lbs. carried great on my hips. I would buy High Sierra products again based on this product. (Update 10/01/12I did purchase another High Sierra backpack for my daughters. It was a 35 liter top loading only pack that works quite well for their smaller bodies.)

07/25/12 update. I have now been on two different two night and three day hikes with my High Sierra Appalachian Trail 75 liter pack. Sadly, I am not a wealthy man so I cannot afford to purchase the high priced and low weight items so my pack weight for each trips was 49 lbs. The pack preformed perfectly. Obviously with 49 lbs, the pack holds a ton of gear. And even at 49 lbs. I had no issues with any straps loosening or buckles breaking, and once I had it dialed in I was good to go. I would venture to say that 49 lb. loads probably is about the limit for plastic buckles if you have a little extra weight around the mid section. The extra weight pushes the buckle out at an angle which makes it easier for the buckle to open due to the pressure, but that is just common sense. I fit a size large Therm-a-rest self inflating pad 78x25x2.5, my big synthetic 30 degree Kelty sleeping bag4 lbs 1 oz., large two man Stansport Starlite 2 tent (See my review on Amazon. I highly recommend this tent), full two liter Platypus water pouch, 1 liter Gatoraid, 2XL Frogg Togg rain gear, camp pillow, fuel bottled camp stove, camp shoes, three pairs of extra socks, 1 lb Coleman magnetic tent light, first aid kit, camp towels, Sawyer squeezable water purifying kit, mess kit with utensils, food and snacks, collapsible fishing pole and reel, small fishing kit, and a few odds and ends; and the bag preformed perfectly. I love the ease of access either through the top or through the front of the bag. There are two outside side pockets that are approx. 6 inches by two inches, a large double pocketed pack cover, and a pocket on the front entry flap to hold the essentials that you might need to get to quickly during your hike. I like the media pouch on the shoulder strap and the mesh pockets on the hip belt that can hold full size Gatorade bottles with a little work. I have no intentions of looking for any other bag! I purchased this pack for a 3 day hike on the Appalachian Trail. It is a good sized pack and it fit comfortably on my hips. It makes good use of space and has a port for a camel bak which I took advantage of. The only problem I have with the pack is the poor quality of zippers on it. I busted a zipper on the top part of the pack as I was loading it for the first time. For the most part you can't beat the price of the pack and the fact it is very comfortable. I would also note that this pack is not for a small person. I have a 34" waist and it fit me great, but if you are much more thin than me you are going to have a problem getting the waist belt tight enough.

I really like this pack. this is my first year into backpacking,and the High Sierra Appalachian 75 is my first backpack with any size going for it. It stores all of my gear,enough for my weekend hikes. I'm 6ft 0in tall,and overweight. The waist belt fits me just fine,the cinching straps work well for me. I've read other reviews that complain of this feature, I've not had a problem so far. The zippers seem to be stiff and hard to use, but it appears to be from the fact that their heavy duty and will ease with time and repeated use. I would definitely recommend this pack to anyone that's in the market for a large roomy pack.

I ordered this pack based on the High Sierra reputation, great price and online reviews. Most of them were spot on. I just took the pack for a two-day 17 mile back country hike. The quality of the pack is commendable, the space available for packing is great, lots of pockets, great accessibility to your pack contents via different pockets and zippered access points. All in all, I like the pack, and want to love it. But...

The shoulder straps do not hold. When you initially pull the straps tight to bring the pack close to your torso, it feels great. After 30 seconds or so of hiking they begin to slip, and continue to do so. It is maddening. I ended up almost constantly grasping the straps to tighten them--literally 1-2 times a minute. I did not use any hiking poles, and really couldn't have, as both hands were constantly occupied with tightening the shoulder straps. Thinking it might be an adjustment issue, I took the pack off and took a closer look at the buckles. I could loosen the straps through the teeth of the buckle with just a little pressure from my finger. I honestly think these buckles are inferior in design. Either the teeth aren't sharp enough, preventing the straps from being firmly secured by the buckle, or there is just too much space where the strap is threaded through the buckle, with the same end result.

I will take a good look at these buckles, and perhaps I can re-thread the strap. If I can't find a solution though, I will reluctantly return this pack. As an aside, I also simultaneously bought the Appalachian Sentinal 65 pack as well. The buckles on the shoulder straps on that one work impeccably, with no sliding or slipping. I honestly think there may be a defective or poorly designed buckle on the 75 liter pack shoulder straps, but not on the 65! I will update this review in a few days after I tinker a bit more with them.

Again, aside from this strap issue, I really liked the pack, and it worked out very well for me on a fairly rigorous hike.

This bag is both stylish and functional. It houses my 13" Macbook Air perfectly in its soft, cushioned interior. I can also slip my phablet, phone, and modem snugly into the zippered side pocket, and still have room to slip work papers on the other side. The zippered section also has a slot-pocket on top. Every compartment is nicely lined with a soft microfiber. I don't worry about where my devices are any more because I finally have a low-profile case to keep them safe and secure. Great design, STM!

This is a great little bag. Didn't think the green would look very good, pretty cool actually! Perfect fit for the Macbook Pro 13". Doesn't wiggle around, very snug. Inside is lined with soft fabric materiel on top of padding so i feel confident that my computer is safe from minor collisions. Haven't had problems with the zipper as some have. Pockets are great because they are low profile if they aren't being used. I don't know if the price is good, it was in my budget but it is definitely worth the money. There is a nice strap that is of decent quality, it is great for students, or someone planning to carry it around.

Overall I would recommend this bag to anyone that asked.

Ben 10 Draw String Backpack Bag

I ordered this bag for my 8 year old son, Max. He is a huge Ben 10 fan. OMG!!! You should have seen his face when he opened the package. He was soooooo excited. I am personally impressed with the structure of the bag. We have seen all kinds in the stores (ie. nike, adidas, etc.) and not one of them is made as durable as this. This was a great buy.
