I live in San Francisco, half way up a pretty steep hill (rated at 6.3% by the city's Public Works Department) and by choice do not own a car.

I am also close to 60 years old and though fit, have the usual age related problems.

I don't mind the walk so much as lugging bags up the hill. I would get bruises on my fingers from the bag straps. It's the same problem with canvas shopping bags.

For those who don't know, San Francisco does not allow those plastic shopping bags and so you have the additional problem of paper bags breaking.

This product solves my problem. I can carry 6 to 7 bags of groceries and since you're carrying the weight distributed across your shoulders and back this can be quite a heavy load.

This is the first pack I have found that is not just an adapted outdoor pack. Someone at Marmot must live in a city because only a true city dweller can appreciate this pack.

The only fault I can find so far is the straps aren't quite padded enough and actually I'm here today to look for pads that'll fit.

The top opening though secure can be difficult to get used to and always confounds the baggers.

It does wash out and dry easily and the pockets with the rubber gaskets lining the opening are a nice touch and really useful.

All in all, this is another quality product from Marmot and lives up to the name emblazoned across the face of this pack.

I started college so I got this backpack to deal with all my books, food, towel, gym clothes, sketchbook and supplies, some bicycle gear too. its huge. you carry a toddler in this pack if you wanted to. I got the Large, don't really carry a baby in it though. its really not meant for that.

I ordered the large with some misgivings, as I read a review that said it was huge. It's not huge; it's just right. I'm a teacher and use it to transport clothes, water bottles and various items for the classroom that I wouldn't put in my briefcase. I love the top-loading aspect of it, and the seams all seem sturdy and tightly sealed. It's not hugely padded in the straps, so I can see problems if you were carrying it on your back for long distances, but from car to office and back is ideal. The front zip pocket is huge and I put three one liter Siggstyle water bottles in it then zip it closed. They fit with room to spar. It's large enough to fit shoes (probably its design purpose). There's only one other pocket on the bag and that's a decent-sized interior pocket at the top that zips closed (no flimsy, small Velcro close). My wife, who can't seem to get enough pockets on her bags, would want more. I love the simplicity and think it's perfect as is.

I live in Seattle and we have a ban on plastic bags here. I tend to forget carrying bags to do my shopping so having a backpack style grocery bag is ideal for here and for myself. The only reason i did not give it 5 stars is that the shoulder straps need to be wider.

My son wanted a Power Rangers backpack for Pre-K but I couldn't find one anywhere. After looking at all of the ones on Amazon we chose this one. I love that it has the Red, Blue, Green, and Black Power Rangers on it. Mose only have the Red or Blue ones.

It is well made. Since it is a toddler backpack a large folder doesn't exactly fit in it. The corners get bent, but it isn't that big of a deal.

I was impressed with the padded straps. They seem more sturdy than a lot of "Character" Backpacks.

The only thing I don't like is the "Power Rangers Patch" that is connected to one of the side pockets. It seems like it may come off in time. But my son loves it, so I am not too worried about it.

OverBoard Waterproof Pro-Sport Backpack

This backpack is great! I bought it because I bicycle to and from work, and biking in the rain often causes the contents of my backpack to get wet. Moreover, biking to and from work (10 miles total) creates a lot of sweat in the summer months, which soaks into conventional backpacks and causes them to stink. Though the shoulder and back pads on this backpack are slightly absorbent; this backpack will be a lot easier to keep clean and non-stinky than a conventional bag. Moreover, it will be useful on any rainy hikes or canoe/kayak trips I decide to go on. And it will keep my stuff dry. Truly a worthy bag to have and use.

The material of this bag is a very sturdy rubbery material, even more sturdy than most high quality dry bags I have encountered in my years of (both recreational and even some professional) kayaking, canoeing, and diving. As a person who travels at night a lot, I was worried about overall visibility. The bag, however, has two large reflective strips on the back, and two smaller ones on the front, which all make you easy for cars to see at night--(and easier to fish out of a lake/river at night)--whenever those things happen.

This backpack has a monstrously extendable capacity. Because it is a drybag, the top folds down easily to remove the bulkiness of the excess capacity when it's not in use. I was a little turned off by the outer pocket being see-through at first, for privacy reasons, but it has definitely grown on me and now I enjoy being able to see exactly what I remembered or forgot to bring in my backpack when I go to work in the morning (the transparency makes quick 'stuff' checks easy). It also has a nice adjustable elastic straps on the back which would be great for hiking, and a sturdy pocket for small items in the interior. All the straps (including the two buckles for the chest) are sturdy and well made.

Finally, this backpack looks very much like a 'conventional' backpack when rolled up and closed. Don't worry about getting any strange looks at meetings (or being 'teased' if you're a teenager) when walking around with this backpack because I got the black version and people haven't noticed the difference unless I've pointed it out to them.

After a month or so of daily use, my only major criticism on the handiwork is that the stitching that secures the zipper on the outside pocket to the bag is too thin and wears out quickly. This has caused the zippered pocket to pull away from the bag and hang open a little. Everything else on the bag has held up very well.

This bag feels very solid, secure seams, comfortable ventilated padding, hooks/loops for attachments, and plenty of outside (and inside) pockets/compartments to separate wet stuff from dry. The material feels thick as in being able to take a beating. The size (30L) is a bit larger than your average day-pack, but it (obviously) won't hold a full set of camping gear. I have looked at/returned several drybags, but this one (purchased on overst...com for under $70) is a keeper.

I've been using this pack to protect my camera, 15" laptop computer, and GPS devises while doing wetland research in coastal Louisiana. It has been excellent with no water leaks at all. The mesh pockets are handy for bug spray and sunscreen! A small interior pocket if useful for things like keys and pencils. Additionally, it is very comfortable to carry on your back and works well as a backpack for wet-weather cycling. 20L is a bit small for a regular school or hiking backpack, but the appropriate size for carrying "just the essentials" for short trips out in to the field for research. You will be very happy with this pack.

Ridiculously huge. Seriously. I lost a family of raccoons in there for a week --turns out they were just hiding between the mini-fridge and my lunch-box collection I had stashed in one of the front pockets. Fixed the "it doesn't have a padded floor" problem that causes a bit of laptop breakage when tossing the Berlin casually on the ground by putting my entire XL Timbuktu bag INSIDE of the interior pocket. Absurdly giant. The new cross-strap rids you of the problem of your jacka$$ friends undoing your front Chrome buckle as a joke, leaving your right arm free to punch them directly in the face without having to save your 82 lbs. of whatever-the-hell-you-want-to-carry from crashing to the ground. Replace "punch them" with "mace", "stab" or "blackjack" and you get the idea: this bag turns you into a willful wrecking machine with a zombie-apocalypse worth of hillbilly-hideout gear stashed on your back. Be forewarned, though: turning in tight spaces will require more spacial judgement than your average NASA physicist has at their disposal; be prepared to knock everything in a 5-foot radius over if you decide to spin around suddenly. Mistakes will be made, and $#!t will get broken.

I used to own a Kremlin bag that Chrome made before the Berlin. Overall, I was happy with it, but there were some issues I had.

Apparently, the Berlin is Chrome's response to customer feedback on the Kremlin. They removed a few things and added some.

Among the differences:

1) the Kremlin had two layers in the main compartment and you were able to take the inner layer completely out if you needed to. The Berlin no longer has this feature, I guess because people were seldom able to put the inner lining back the same as before they took it out;

2) a large pocket is now available on the rim of the Berlin on the open side and it seals with Velcro;

3) the single pocket on the outside of the Kremlin is now two pockets on the Berlin, one of which has a smaller zipper pocket on the outside, which is good for carrying keys or a wallet. The two main pockets do not have closures. There is even a small slot for pens between them;

4) despite the large carrying capacity of the Kremlin, couriers reported that even though the Kremlin could hold a large, heavy load, the main strap wasn't always able to prevent the bag from sliding-around, which could result in a crash. The Berlin now features a cross-strap, so that it comes down like an X over your chest.This distributes the weight better and makes it more secure. The extra strap is ingeniously concealed in a compartment over one shoulder;

5) the Kremlin's "secret stash pocket" is gone from the Berlin. It was the first thing I looked for when my Berlin arrived; and

6) while the Kremlin came in a variety of colors, the Berlin is only available in either black or grey.

Chrome still has excellent customer service. When I've had issues with their products, my issues were quickly resolved with courtesy and professionalism.

I really like this bag. I used to carry about 4-6 programming books in my bag (language references -and those of you in software development know how heavy those are), and this bag can fit them easily. While it's not going to work miracles on the strain on your back/shoulders (now, I only carry one or two), but it's definitely going to allow you to fit a laptop, some books (textbook size), and a change of clothes (gym clothes, or regular) without really filling this bag up.

There are separate sections, though beware -this is truly a messenger bag and not an office tote. You'll need to maintain organization on your own (there is only one main compartment with a smaller sleeve style pocket (in addition to the miscellaneous pockets on the front). The additional strap is an awesome feature. Especially when you're carrying a lot of heavy stuff. It's also not padded for a laptop (it's not a laptop bag, but you can buy a sleeve to fit), but you can fit a good deal of stuff from Costco when you go shopping for bulk items (save on those boxes!).

The style is decent, but it's big. That's an understatement. It's huge! I'm a pretty big guy, and it spans about my entire back. That being said, it's not a fashion statement. It's not ugly, but it's large and I wouldn't call it the next big thing.

All in all, this bag is an all-purpose workhorse, and it does its job well.

I bought this for my six-year old when the zipper on her backpack broke. She was insistent that she wanted a messenger bag I didn't want to spend a lot.

This bag fit the bill. It is not too big perfect for early elementary. It seems sturdy enough to take folders back and forth to school, with a little extra room for a change of clothes, etc., but not too big. If you are wanting to take more than two or three books home every day, you probably want a bigger back and a padded strap. This is definitely a light duty bag, but no more so than the cheap kiddie backpacks you find in the stores it is made of the same vinyl fabric.

It is very plain we bought some decorative iron-on patches and I ironed them on just place a thin towel over it all and iron on cotton setting. Now it is super cute and one-of-a-kind.

She has used it for two weeks now and no complaints so far!

It fits a 15inch laptop easily though there is no padding so I wouldn't recommend using it for that purpose without a sleeve. Seems well made though the water bottle mesh holder on the side does not hold anything wider than a 16oz bottle so my reusable doesn't fit.

I purchased two of these backpacks for this past school year and they held up fairly well. The wheels seemed more rugged than others we had in the past and was my fav feature of this backpack. However, by the end of the school year holes had warn through the material at the bottom edges and are now unusable because the stuff falls out of the holes (obviously). We had some wheeled JSport backpacks before that actually lasted 2 school years! Wish all had that high of a quality!

Belkin 17-Inch Messenger Bag (Jet/Cabernet)

I recently bought my first MacBook Pro and went hunting for a good bag that could hold a 17 inch laptop. I was wary of the low price, but now that I have the bag, I am simply thrilled with it.

The design is perfect; simple, elegant and oddly futuristic with its muted colors, soft rounded shapes and contrasting textures. It also comes with a small removable bag for power cords and such, which is a nice touch. The brown is slightly lighter chocolate then pictured, which is an excellent compliment to the pale aqua accents.

The strap is a good four inches wide, thicker then I have seen on most bags and evenly distributes the weight of its contents without digging into my shoulder. And while there is adequate padding inside the bag, I would still suggest picking up the matching laptop sleeve for the added security and protection. The mouse bag, which unzips to form a perfect mouse pad, is also a great item and extremely useful.

There are a few drawbacks. The separating fabric walls of the two inside compartments are thin and a tad flimsy. Also, even a relatively thin computer (a Macbook Pro 17" in my case, which is about as thin as it gets) is a tight fit. When used in conjunction with the matching Belkin sleeve for this bag, it won't fit in the laptop compartment at all. The extra fabric on the sleeve (and there is a good two inches of it with my Macbook) spills out over the top and makes it impossible to close the zipper. I end up having to place my laptop in the front, unpadded compartment, or not use the sleeve at all, both of which are not good options.

Also, once you have the laptop in, there is little room for anything else. I find I can get my Macbook and case, along with the power adapter, a travel surge protector, a Bluetooth mouse, and an Airport Express packed in with some difficulty and more pressure on my laptop then I would like.

This is a great bag it is thin and not bulky, there are plenty of pockets, my 17" laptop fits perfectly, and it has room for a few files and the necessary cords and peripherals.

My one frustration with the bag is that the adjustable strap only adjusts a little. I like to have the strap be pretty short so I can carry the bag near my low back while I ride my bike, and I cannot decrease the strap length enough to do that. This also means that when shorter people carry the bag over their shoulder, it hangs really low. This defect makes the bag uncomfortable to carry.

I shopped around for a really nice notebook bag that would accommodate a 17-inch laptop and was inexpensive. Where I live, I don't have a lot of options for shopping around, so I looked for one online. Out of all the places I looked, every one gave this Belkin Laptop bag excellent reviews, so I ordered it and I was not disappointed.

The area of the bag that houses the laptop is well padded. There is plenty of room in the front pockets to carry a book or two as well as other things you might need at work or school. It comes with a separate pouch for the power cords so they are not lose in the bag.

The only thing that I found wrong with the bag is, I bought the chocolate/tourmaline colored bag. I thought the chocolate color would be a darker brown. It's more of a medium to dark brown. My husband actually like the color, so gave him the bag and ordered the jet/cabernet for myself.

We are very impressed by this Belkin bag and would recommend this product to anyone.

I bought this bag to fit my new 17" laptop. The price was less at Amazon than where I bought the laptop from. It holds & coushions my laptop perfectly. In addition to the laptop, it can hold a power supply cord, travel surge protector (mini), mouse, extra battery, TV tuner, remote control, a couple game boxes, thin books, and papers. There are plenty of pockets and an included inside bag to protect those items from rubbing up against eachother. My only complaint is that the inside built-in pockets are not deep enough to hold anything. Since these pockets are protected by the backside of the laptop coushion, it would be nice to store Cd-Roms in them. The material of the bag is very strong, as is the strap. If you own a 17" laptop, you already know that it is very heavy. Carrying everything mentioned above in this case is extremely heavy. I find it's best to carry the bag by the handle at the top of the bag (a feature you can't see in the picture). It's a coushioned, but sturdy handle made out of the same material as the bag. When I used the strap (crossed over my chest), I found that it pulled on my neck-which is never a good thing. The case was too heavy for me to use the strap on one arm (maybe I'm a weakling-lol). Again, there's good balance just using the handle. Since the strap is attached, it can be positioned around the bottom of the case for travel. But, it's not perfect, and mostly just ends up dangling. It can be tucked into the outside pocket if you have room for it (I don't). All-in-all, it's a great case. Something worth mentioning: A laptop sleeve wouldn't fit inside this case. ;)

Targus Drifter II Backpack Designed for 17-Inch Laptop TSB239US (Black/Gray)

First I pretty much live out of my backpack, so its used all the time. I mostly use either a bicycle or a motorcycle to get myself around with the backpack holding everything I need. At a minimum I usually have a laptop and a change of clothes with me among other personal and work things in the backpack. I also occasionally travel and like being able to also fit everything I need for the trip in the pack so I don't need to hassle with checking in bags. So I want something that can work as a duffle bag, briefcase, laptop case and small suitcase.

I really liked my previous backpack which was a Rosewill RBG-1701BP. After more than a year of solid use it started fraying around the shoulder straps and worse developed a hole in the bottom corner of the main compartment. I would have just rebought the Rosewill, but unfortunately it doesn't appear to be available anymore. So started the search for a replacement. Basically it was going to be a comparison against the Rosewill. Out of all the backpacks I considered the Targus Drifter II measured the best. Here is what was important to me and how the Targus measured up.

I'm 6'3" and want the bottom of the pack to ride more on my lower back, not the middle of my back so I wanted something at least 21". The Targus meets the length requirement, however when fully loaded up it didn't ride as comfortable as the Rosewill. Basically the weight road differently on my lower back than the Rosewill. I believe the reason is because of 2 things that Rosewill did a little different in their design. One is the way Rosewill layed out their back pads with the side pads going the length of the backpack. The Targus has shoulder pads with a big pad across the bottom. The second and more important reason is Rosewill adds structure stiffness within the back part of the backpack which causes the weight to be more evenly distributed along the side pads which again went along the entire length of the backpack. It also built a stiffness into the front of the backpack. This is also really nice when standing the backpack up. The Rosewill stands on its own. The Targus will fall over if nothing is inside to keep it up. This would be my first suggestion to Targus for feature improvement. By the way the Rosewill stiffness added no noticable weight to its backpack.

From a pocket perspective, they are pretty much comparable. Both provide extra padding for the laptop which I like although the laptop pocket is padded a tad better on the Rosewill. Targus does have one extra purse like pocket that I really like because of its convenience right at the top of the pack that Rosewill didn't have. A definite point for the Targus side.

The shoulder straps on the Rosewill were thicker with more padding which made them more comfortable than the Targus shoulder straps, however that is one area that also started fraying on the Rosewill. The Targus straps aren't that bad and over time I've become use to them.

Last obviously durability was important. I definitely didn't want a flimsy nylon bag. The materials used by Targus looks and feels durable. I like the water resistant bottom. Something that was missing from the Rosewill. So far I've been happy with how its holding up for the couple of months I've had it. We'll see how it wears over time.

** This is an update after using the backpack for a few months. The lack of stiffness in the bag has turned out to be a bigger inconvenience than I thought it would be. The bag folds over on itself with out a laptop in it which is annoying enough I would actually downgrade it a star. I would now not just recommend it as an improvement for me, but a requirement. The bag really needs some sort of rib support along the length of the back. Outside of that the bag is still wearing good.

This backpack will be my preferred (over my trusty attache) business travel bag with or without my need for a computer. Why, because you can easily fit a lot of "stuff" in it and carry it without inducing back strain.

I am a backpacker and have hiked extensively in the back country as well as climbed several 14,000 ft. peaks. I provide this as background since I am very familiar with backpacks.

The Targus Drifter, first and foremost, is sturdy yet lightweight, comparable to any great backpack. And the Drifter has many areas for storage, including water or drink bottles (those you would buy while traveling not the large bottles used in the back country). It also has a great ergonomically designed shoulder strap and an optional "lifting" strap (for use when having to remove your backpack for security, etc.)

My plan is to use this immediately as an alternative to my attache which does not hold my computer securely. Until now, I have had to use a separate bag for my computer and this has been getting more difficult with increasing airline restrictions on carry-on bags.

My 17 inch computer fits snugly and securely in the pack due to a padded compartment.

Great for students, those who travel extensively and need their laptop or iPad, and for those who want to wander into the wilderness with their computer.

I am currently going to school and also need a laptop bag... This backpack is AMAZING the only thing it does not have is a spot for the kitchen sink and an mp3 player pouch on the strap. It has several pockets and a hidden one inside the lower back cushion. Airflow is GREAT and while it does take some getting used to you only feel a portion of the weight!!! I would buy this thing for much more than i did!!! If you need to carry books and a laptop this is the bag! if you need just the laptop and accessories than look elsewhere. If you need more i would go with the XL. Currently I have 3 textbooks, 3 notebooks, A Wacom tablet (in it's case), a 15.6" laptop, several accessories, a change of clothes and a hoodie in mine and it's still comfortable!!! The only time i notice the weight is when getting on/off my bike or when putting on/removing the backpack!!!

So this backpack was my second choice as I already used the first one, Swiss Gear Ibex 17-Inch Notebook Backpack.

I thought this backpack was great as it has lots of storage area. It has cushions at the bottom of the backpack to protects everything inside from water, or any liquid that can enter from the bottom of the Targus Drifter II Backpack Designed for 17-Inch Laptop. The skin on the outside is water-resistant, 2 or even 4 water bottle holder, 2 outside and 2 zipper covered. (This can hold other stuff like AC Power cables as it is very roomy. The strap cushion is stuffed but not as much as I would like. There is enough room to hold multiple of items, books, laptop, another holder inside to keep ipad or even another laptop inside the main area. The top zipper area inside's that is under the handle is microfiber or similar material enforced.

Also the height of this backpack is similar to a double-edge sword. The height makes it harder to open and close. Also keeps it unbalanced and the tops of the backpack flops over.

The cons of this backpack are

The cushion inside for the laptop aren't as thick as I would like unlike the Swiss Gear Ibex 17-Inch notebook Backpack.

The "Designed for 17-Inch Laptop" or "Room to Fit All" does not fit all, my 15.3-Inch HP wiggles as the strap inside does not reach the inside of the sticky material for the strap.

The cushion for the backpack, the area where you would wear for this backpack, isn't as thick as you would like. Which also is a problem because the adjust clips always readjust itself when I would wear this backpack.

The backpack zippers are also a problem, sometime it would get jammed because the backpack is too tall so you would actually need to unzip it straight or stay aligned with the pathway.

This backpack also does not stay up straight with or without a spine (Laptop/ or any books inside). First day I left it on my desk, the backpack flipped and rolled over... My laptop was inside and would not start for a few hours. Safely for the laptop

I'm going to repurchase the Swiss Gear Ibex 17-Inch Notebook Backpack, as I had to return it once. Still was one of the best backpack I have ever used as a student, or even for technology.

I am a computer professional and I have carried a laptop to and from work every day for the past 15 years. In addition I have traveled for work and my work is demanding enough that I even take my laptop on vacation. I have used more laptop bags than I can remember. Due to my constant use; I am pretty hard on them and so I have become pretty picky as well. I liked the design of this bag online. It arrived yesterday and I took it out of the plastic tried one of the zippers only to find that it caught on the material as soon and it moved from one angle to another. Thinking it was just that zipper, I tried another...after testing four of the zippers each catching there was no way I was keeping this bag. I would have a broken zipper or torn material exposing the compartment in a matter of weeks if not days. I would say that the issue is either a design flaw for a manufacturing defect, either way I wasn't going to waste my hard earned money. It is going back today!

This bag is almost perfect. It has some rigidity to it so it can stand on its own which is helpful when you put it down. I sometimes have to carry 2 laptops and it does so perfectly (15.4" and 17"). The size is perfect, not like I'm going to trek over into the Amazon but can provide more than ample room for all sorts of activites/travel. The trend is towards too many compartments and sub-compartments/pockets, but once you get used to it, finding things become very easy. The Zippers work well, the padding and straps are excellent, and as a professional, this bag has a very high-tech, quality professional look to it. Weight is not feathery but is reasonable given its semi-rigid structure and excellent protection. The outer top loop has a nice feel and detail to it when you to lift it up by the loop. Its very balanced on my shoulders and reduces fatigue = important since I travel a lot by air and by motorcycle with it.

My single complaint is that it does not have a lower band or strap which allows it to securely wraparound a roll-on luggage's handle useful when airporting around.

I probably need a life, but this bag has improved the quality of it immensely. The other excellent bags are the Synergy (same price) or the Maxuum (slightly cheaper), both by Swissgear but I don't think anyone makes a better functional or aesthetic bag than the Wegner Swissgear folks!

This is a very well constructed bag, but the odd design of the diagonal separation between the larger back and middle compartments, and their equal depth, really limits what you can put into the bag. If you want to carry lots of legal pads, this would be a great bag. I want one large section for all of my books, etc., and a thinner section for the computer. I exchanged this for the Maxxum (also Wenger), which is perfect for me, as well as cheaper! The Maxxum also adds an adjustable kangaroo pouch on the front which is very handy. Ah, I should also note that both of these packs have an across-the chest strap that is placed too high. I still use it because it really helps with weight distribution.

I got this for my sweety and he LOVES it. It fits his Dell Inspiron e1705 perfectly and for those reviews complaining about the zippersthey must have something different. The zippers on this bag are slippy but they lock, if you know what I mean. They won't unzip themselves.

It's got plenty of room for his accessories, work things, books and an extra change of clothes for overnight trips.

I have to admit, I thought about getting one for my e1405, but can't justify the expenditure when the laptop in a neoprene case transports well in my beat-up old Jansport. And he needed a backpack anyway.

We saw an airline employee traveling with the Pegasus from SwissGear and he had nothing but wonderful things to say about it. The only worry was getting one to fit his 17" computer. I bought this backpack with a niggling feeling from the iffy reviews, but let me put your mind at rest. He slipped it in and latched it and voila! Perfect fit. Snug but nowhere near worrisome. Plus, it's got a pocket for your Swiss Army knife. (but remember to take it out before heading to the airport!)

Highly recommendedand the price right now on Amazon is the best I've seen so far, saving up to $30 on other sites.

When I decided to get a high end laptop with a 17" screen, equally important was getting a nice-looking, roomy backpack that would adequately protect it. The challenge about finding a nice 17" backpack, though, is that most of them are very bland and the overall selection is extremely narrow.

I quickly noticed how Wenger's Swiss Army backpacks were nice looking (and they even feature colors other than black or gray), but scouring many website reviews I read a repeated complaint that Dell's 17" laptops "barely" fit in this pack, the zipper "barely" got around the machine, etc., etc. Now that I finally jumped off the cliff to risk this pack without testing it in real life, I want to assure you this lovely backpack has ample room for Dell's monster notebooks. The only thing "snug" about it is that the laptop pocket is tight around your hardware. This means you can't just mindlessly drop your notebook in: you have to line it up with the pocket, but once in place, your machine slides in easily and there are zero problems with the zipper clearing around the edges.

After that, there's space for a three inch thick textbook, if you want, and/or a large zippered leather portfolio folder. I can fit those in, along with a coiled, long USB cable, oversized headphones and a full-sized wired mouse. There's a separate zippered, breathable bag to store your power cord, battery and a travel power adapter if you choose. And I still have more room after that.

The laptop compartment is padded on all sides (including the bottom) and there's thick, firm padding along the shoulder straps and the back. There's a sternum/high chest strap you can clip as well, if you're feeling particularly mountain man-like.

Externally, if you love the Swiss Army white cross on red background logo, you'll love this pack, because the little design is on every single zipper pull, on the shoulder straps, and elsewhere. The blue color that looks so strong in the photos is actually much more subdued in real life and could even be mistaken for gray. The red logos set things off, and the little media player pocket on the top front is completely lined in red material, which adds nice punch to everything.

Another cool touch is the main hand grip at the top of the pack-it's metal coil wrapped in clear plastic, and then wrapped again in a soft rubber grip. Very cool looking.

Best of all? Unlike other backpacks (third and first party) you could bundle with your purchase at Dell's website, this pack doesn't come emblazoned with a screaming "steal me, I'm an expensive computer" Dell logo smack in the middle of it. This pack could easily be seen as a plain ole backpack.

Heartily recommended. Dell 17-inchers (and otherwise): have no fear.

I've had this backpack for a week and took it right away on a trip to Vancouver. It's built strong and it looks strong too! The extra compartments on it made me feel queezy at first but I soon learned to love them, you can compartmentalize all your stuff and keep them accessible. My laptop is well protected and you can keep all your accesories handy like your mouse, cables, printer cables, etc. The shock absorbers at the straps really take the pain off carrying a lot of stuff on the backpack. Ness Eli Diaper/Tote Bag

I just bought the Eli bag (in camel) from the Ness website. I bought it because I was looking for a convertible backpack that wasn't ugly. I really want to love this bag it has a timeless style and is great quality. But I am having issues. First, there aren't enough pockets. Exterior: two small flap pockets (big enough for smart phone and few small items), one flat snap-close pocket (under the buckles to the front handle). Interior: two small elastic pockets, one large elastic pocket, one small zipper pocket. I'd really like two additional designated sippy cup pockets in the corners of the bag, but they aren't there. The straps are comfortable, but the shoulder straps are a little small and are better used as a clutch handle.

Overall, this is a great quality bag and I am really happy with the look. If there were just a few more pockets, I would be sold. I am still undecided if I'm going to return this and instead go with the Petunia Pickle Bottom Sashay Satchel (more room, more pockets).

I'll start by saying that this is a solid backpack. It is sewn together well, and I have not had any trouble with loose strings, or anything falling apart. This backpack can be used for skaters who need a place to put their board, general use, or even a laptop backpack.

Personally, I use this backpack for work so I constantly carry a laptop. There is a good amount of padding in the laptop slot, although there is not a strap over the laptop slot, which shouldn't matter unless you plan on hanging upside down. It securely holds your laptop in place.

Pros:

Place to keep board (for skaters)

Solid stitching, not likely to tear

Slot to keep Ipod/etc.

Laptop slot with good padding

Multiple zip up pockets

Zippers have extended rubber gribs to make it easier to grab and zip

Cons:

Side pockets only have 1 zipper, so you cannot put a water bottle in or it will fall out.

Kate Spade New York Nylon Stevie Baby Diaper Bag

This bag is very cute, however the zipper is horrible. It gets caught and snagged so you can't just zip it closed quickly. I returned the first bag I received hoping it was just a problem with that individual bag, but the replacement does the exact same thing. I'm very disappointed that I have to take this bag into an alterations place and have the zipper replaced. This is a $400 + bag and it is not made with any precious or rare materials. It's disappointing that they couldn't spare a little more of their resources to make a bag with a decent zipper.

I bought this bag (in black) in anticipation of my first child and got it at a fraction of the price from an outlet store. I use it often because it is very spacious and has lots of pockets, but I hate, hate, hate the handles. Perhaps this is only and issue with the outlet bags, but from what I can tell they are all made the same except the labels.

Pros:

Has tons of pockets for organizing (or if you're like me, losing things in...the thing I need is always at the very bottom of the last pocket and I only find it after searching the bag twice over)

The HANDLES....This is my main gripe about the bag, but I think it's pretty considerable since that's how you lug it around...They are tubular patent leather with a thick seam that faces your arm/shoulder area when you carry the bag. My bag came with a coating on the edges to seal the leather, which quickly pealed off after a few uses. The seam is thick and hard and digs into your arm and or shoulder whenever you're carrying the bag. And it's a spacious bag so it's usually heavy with baby gear. Also, at the most inconvenient times, like when I'm bending to pick up my baby or toddler, the outer-most handle ALWAYS falls off my shoulder, leaving the bag to gape open and allowing things to fall out. So I have to now bend with child in one arm and giant bag on the other and balance as I fish for the item that fell out. (And yes, it does zip closed at the top, which would prevent this mostly from happening, but that restricts space and takes a few seconds, which sometimes I can't seem to spare.)

Also after many washes (I've had my bag for about 1.5 years.) The changing pad has faded and wrinkled, which to me is a minor issue.

Also the stroller straps that come as part of the bag are pretty useless aside from taking up other-wise useful pocket space and adding weight (the clips are large and metal). The straps are barely long enough to fit on my stroller (Baby Jogger, City Mini) and the bag is usually way too heavy to hang on the stroller (The weight tips the empty stroller, which is why you're not supposed to hang bags from the handles anyways, I know.). It would be much more useful and productive if the stroller straps were actually a cross body strap, then it would actually be functional, (for moments when you need both hands and also a longer strap to hang from stroller, if you choose to do such a thing).

This bag would be wonderful if it had handles that were mom friendly. I regret purchasing this bag and frequently alternate to smaller bags like a cotton Vera Bradley with soft handles that don't dig into my shoulder or constantly fall down, but I find it too small. I'm still searching for the perfect diaper bag, and am about to abandon any hope of finding something stylish AND functional. My second baby is weeks away and I'm very close to settling for a back pack. At least it can be hands free, is spacious, has pockets, and I can more easily pawn it off to my husband to carry. Hope this helps!

I got this bag as a early Mother's Day present and I love it. The bright red inside is so helpful in trying to find a lost pacifier. My last bag was black on the inside and I felt like it was a black hole. But the red makes it so much easier to find things especially if you have a screaming baby. My sis in law has a similiar Kate Spade bag and it has lasted through 2 kids. I know this is a pricey bag, but it's worth it if it lasts. I'd rather buy a nice bag and have it last then to buy several cheap ones that dont. I love the nylon outside, it cleans easily. Overall this is a great bag and I highly recommend.

This was my present to myself for baby #2. I am sooooo glad I broke down and purchased it. Looks like a purse, so no one even thinks its a diaper bag. Material easily wipes down milk and snack spills. Bottle pockets are big enough for any bottle, sippy cup , or sports drink bottle. Lots of inside pockets for all of baby's stuff. Nice quality changing pad unlike most other cheapo diaper bags. It is a little shorter than most diaper bags and there is no over the shoulder strap. If it had these two things I would've gave it 5 stars. There is enough room for 2 babies stuff and moms wallet, tablet, cell phone, lop gloss, etc. Glad I purchased this and looking forward to using it the next few years. Now dad gets the cheap ugly one to use from now on!! ;)

I did read the other review about the zipper being awful, but honestly didn't think much about it since the other reviews were very good and this is the bag I've been wanting for our first baby. It is definitely 5 stars otherwise, but the zipper just doesn't open/close smoothly. It gets caught or stops regularly. I will change my review if it improves with use (I am not due until early July), but as of now I am not impressed and do not plan on taking it somewhere to have a better zipper installed. Very disappointed with this for the cost. And I actually had bought another bag, exact same style just different fabric, online at a surprise sale from Kate Spade directly, and while other aspects of that bag are not as nice as this one, the zipper for sure works perfectly.

There are three well known mountaineering pack companies with rifle scabbards I paid top dollar for the first two. My eberlestock x1 was a gift, and it is by far the best, and most well thought out. It's predecessors failed not by being bad packs but poor rifle packs. The eberelstock places the rifle closer and more solidly held against the back, and when removed doesn't unbalance the pack. I also play in the rough hills of eastern Oregon, and slips and falls happen in rough terrain, I feel like my rifle is better protected by the x1. Thank you for building a superior product.
