As a full-time UCLA student, I need a bag that will keep my books and laptop safe, since I have to walk around a very large and hilly campus. Before I had the Rakuda bag, I often had shoulder pain because the other bags/backpacks I was using did not offer the superior quality support the Rakuda canvas bag does. Usually I don't write reviews, I'm always busy, but this bag really worth my time. I'm not a big fan of backpacks,but sometimes you really need to have one for day trips, short adventure tours or like me, going to Disneyland with my daughter. Every time I buy a backpack I feel that I have to sacrifice style for necessity and I really hate it.
When I saw this bag in Amazon, I love the canvas' color, but I thought that probably it looks good because they photoshop the picture; still I wanted to give a chance and I ordered it. I was so thrilled when I got it. It is amazingly beautiful. Oh! I forgot to tell you that it is very spacious, I packed it with 2 full change of clothes (after splash mountain ride), bottles of water, camera, wallet, sunglasses, hats and some snacks and still available room without loosing it shape.

I am an art teacher, a youth counselor, as well as a full time student. Working alongside other professionals and educators, as well as going to school myself, I wanted a pack that is able to not only contain the massive amount of things I take with me when I leave my home for the day, (water bottle, lunch, coffee, pencil case, books, books, and more books) but that is also presentable in a workplace environment, say opposed to my dirty hole ridden northface arctic. This pack has been incredible thus far, and I take it everywhere I go. It is not a big bulky thing like some of these 'vintage WWII' look-a-likes sometimes can be, yet somehow it is able to safely contain a considerable amount of materials, with just the right amount of extra pockets, not to mention, its a gorgeous looking bag! I find myself enjoying the action of the buckles, buttons and drawstring for their aesthetic and tactual appeal, but as well as their quality. I have never been one to value the look of something over its quality and functionality, and although I have only had this bag for a week, I could tell the durability and craftsmanship was far above average the moment I opened the packaging. This is a bag that has potential to last a lifetime, so long as it is not abused. I would highly suggest purchasing a can of canvas waterproofing spray, especially for those regularly exposed to rainfall, for it will hold the integrity of your pack for years.
The one and only complaint I have thus far is this; many packs today come with a thicker, perhaps more durable material for the base of the bag. This is of course to ensure a longer life time of setting (or tossing) your bag down at every given stop in ones day to day. This pack has the same blue canvas on all facets of the pack. Although it is a solid material, the bottom will be the first to go over prolonged use/abuse. A leather bottom to match the buckles would have been nice for a few more points in durability and strength, but these things can largely be avoided with simple care.
Over all, and this comes with a very picky and critical history of packs, to date, this is my favorite 'all-around' pack I have ever had. You will not be disappointed with Rakuda.

The canvas is strong and the size good. My concern is that all those straps you see in the picture are for show actually they had snaps. It's a nice idea easier to use, but unfortunately the snaps are cheap so they don't close very well. For a very expensive product the fittings are rather cheaply made. I just walked through an airport on Thanksgiving, highly aware that each of those snaps was liable to come open in a moment and be easily opened by a thief. Sadly, if they had just had the read buckles, which would have been cheaper for the manufacturer and actually a better product.

In looking for a replacement for my last Eagle Creek computer/paper bag, I looked at the upscale options (Tumi and friends). While there were both highly functional and elegant products available, they did not meet one strict requirement: that it be possible to carry the bag as a backpack, comfortably. The Eagle Creek has padded curved straps which allow it to be comfortably carried for hours on hikes, and then tucked in the back and the bag becomes appropriate for the most serious meetings I attend. While I only have a few months of experience with this sack, I have decades of experience with other Eagle Creek products; hope and expect this one to hold up as well.
