SwissGear 1775 Black Laptop Backpack with Red Accents

This is a very reasonably priced backpack. I got it to replace another SwissGear laptop pack that was 5-years old.

Pros:

Padded laptop pocket, which is in separate compartment. This compartment has mesh pockets to store other electronic gear.

Main compartment has an audio-player pocket near the top, and the pack's upper wall has a hole for threading through your headphone cable. There's a flap covering the hole, but it looks like rain could get in if it rains very hard never had this happen though.

Durable outside side pockets (for things like water bottles). These seem a lot more durable that my previous pack, where the pocket mesh gradually detached from the elastic.

I like how there isn't a firm sheet of plastic inside the back wall. My previous SwissGear had this, and the (sharp) edge of the sheet eventually started cutting through the bottom of the wall.

Cons:

This one is major the so-called air-flow design does absolutely nothing. When my back is sweaty, I feel the whole back of the backpack pressing against me. No air flowing permitted. My previous SwissGear was far better, because it had two semi-firm foam protrusions running along the height of the pack; these protrusions lined up with my shoulder-blades, and would keep the middle vertical line of my back clear for the air to flow. Don't advertise airflow if it doesn't work!

compartments are sometimes hard to zip because the pack's material is somewhat limp.

Other thoughts:

You probably shouldn't lift the pack by its top handle unless the two zippers on either side of the handle are closed. This seems to put strain on the strip of material the handle is on. If the zippers are closed, the rest of the pack can support the weight.

I bought this in June 2011 for less than 35 USD, but now in November, the price is almost twice as high.

Initially, I really liked this bag. Nice and roomy, yet still fits under the airline seat. However, after using this bag on a regular occasion for the last year, I have noticed a tendency of the zippers to work their way open a couple of inches, or more. This could allow items to fall out of the bag. And it seems the full the bag, the more the zippers have a tendency to open. So the bag is good, but be careful with the zippers.

So, just what exactly can you load this sharp looking, black with red trim SwissGear backpack up with? Let's break it down compartment by compartment....

First, the outside of the backpack has a small slot that could fit a cell phone, an iPod or perhaps some business cards; I think that the idea for this compartment is that it be used while the backpack is sitting next to you on the train, plane or bus. If you put anything in here of value while you're carrying the backpack, you're a pickpocketer's dream come true. The outside of the backpack also has a mesh slot for water bottles on both of the lower sides. There's a little slot on the backpack strap that is intended for you to slip an arm of your sunglasses through, but that seems like it's inviting a broken (or stolen) pair of glasses.

Small compartment with zipper, outside front Just big enough for your glasses or sunglasses with case; I use it for stowing Purell, Chapstick & gum.

Medium sized compartment with zipper (moving from front to back) Includes: 1) a space large enough for a hardcover book; 2) an open flap that could fit a short stack of 4" x 6" napkins (or whatever); 3) a small slot that could fit an iPod or cell phone; 4) a business card holder; 5) three pen/pencil holders; 6) a small netted business card flap (where I stow some earbuds).

Large compartment with zipper large enough to vertically hold several 8" x 11" folders/documents/items. Includes another cell phone / iPod holder that hangs near the top of the pocket with a small throughway slot to the outside of the backpack that you can thread your headphones through in order to wear the backpack and connect to your media device that is securely within the pack.

Laptop compartment with zipper this large compartment has a separator dividing the compartment into two halves. One half of the compartment should fit any 15" laptop; the other half is large enough to fit a second laptop...not that many people will do that, but I'm just trying to give a visual on the size of this compartment. The compartment also has two mesh relatively large slots designed to hold miscellaneous computer gear like an AC adapter, Ethernet cables and the like. When you're not transporting your laptop, this compartment alone would probably hold most of your stuff.

Other than the above, two adjustable shoulder straps are comfortable and they make for an entirely comfortable fitting backpack whether using both straps over the shoulder or one. There is also a pretty sturdy fabric handle at the top of the backpack, but if you're packed with a laptop and other weighty stuff, I'd suggest using both straps over the shoulders.

So load the SwissGear up with things and knickknacks too. Anything that you might need should fit inside for you. Backpack backpack.

This backpack, in one word, is AWESOME! It's durable, stylish, and holds everything I need and as a college student, that's important. It holds most 15" laptops, comes with 2 large compartments (one holds the laptop with 2 mesh slots for laptop accessories and has space for a textbook or something and the other is an open space to fill with binders and things of the sort and has a little mp3 player holder). Also, the durable straps don't cut into your neck and shoulders and the 2 outer water bottle holders are a great accessory. The backpack also isn't a turtle-shell/suitcase-on-your-back meaning that it isn't big or overwhelming, it's the perfect size! Plus, the front compartment for gadgets, keys, phones, and supplies are sufficient and roomy. The other front mini-compartment is great if I need extra space for a mouse or even a snugly space for a snack. I must say it is absolutely a great buy for anyone!

Ok, so i personally wanted to write a review of this backpack. I'm a Mobile Dj, I DJ Gigs all over my city/state, plus i'm in school. So its essential that i'm able to SAFELY & COMFORTABLY transport all my things around from location to location. When I recieved this backpack, it arrived in a good time frame & manner. Upon checking it out, I was very surprised at how much room this thing had. First off in size, its a nice size backpack, comfortable to wear, & for long periods of times also., doesn't tear into your skin or hurt you at all.

Hello Kitty "I Love Kitty Quilted Pink" Backpack

For a Hello Kitty pack of this size, it is a very good price. It has a laptop compartment and many small pockets for all your doodads. The material is a little thin, not heavy fabric, but since I will only be using it for going around the city with my netbook, sketchpad and camera, and nothing heavy it doesn't matter much. I wouldn't use it for bulky books.

It's super cute and black, which is a very good thing if you ever plan to put your pack down anywhere other than pristine surfaces as much of Kitty's merchandise is white or pink.In all, I like it.

The Bag is great colors and right size. But, it is made of a material that reminds me of Frogg Toggs. you know the slippers and stuff you get while staying in a hospital. not something for everyday use. it would shred in moments if it were to see the light of the nearest mall. I should expect that I got what I paid for but I have seen the better nylon taffeta bags with a similar price point. as a back up bag for shore gear, I think not so much. it is definitely a "cheap" bag in all senses of the word.

I purchased this backpack after a full week of research while crews restored power from Hurricane Sandy. My only regret is that I didn't purchased it sooner. I call it my "mobile powerstation", because I often use it for unpowered train commute situations, as a backup power source. I can't even begin to describe the extraordinarily thoughtful design of this product, but I'll try:

1) Sturdy, enviro-friendly backpack has plenty of storage space for commuting or weekend trips. Lots of panels and compartments including a padded laptop section so you can easily view and access your 'stuff'. The Solar panel section can zip-on and zip-off. It neatly houses the battery, connector tips, and an AC power cord (for optionally recharging the battery from a wall socket). Still it is all very lightweight especially compared to my rolling backpack the other 'must-have' I recommend for road warrior equipment. The front badge (red plastic icon) is powered by the panel so you can get a visible red light when the solar panel is exposed to sun.

2) Super Battery! This has got to be one of the most powerful batteries available in such a compact form factor. I have used this battery on my 2+ hr commute to power my 'phablet' and modem. I have yet to manage to drain it on a trip. I haven't needed it yet for my Macbook Air, since the battery lasts several hours, but I have no doubt it will serve either buy a magsafe adapter from voltaic, or use a magsafe-auto/truck power converter available here on amazon. I chose the DC cigarette lighter converter, so I'll have more options for power sources.

3) Super Solar Panel! Well constructed and sturdy outer panel can either charge the included battery, or charge up to 2 devices at once. You can power or charge a typical 5v smartphone device, plus a more power-hungry 12 or 18v device while the sun's up.

I can't say enough good things about this backpack, because it perfectly fits my particular need and addresses my power-insecurities in a "green" way. I plan to purchase another for a friend who lives in the tropics where getting consistent power is often a problem.

Don't let another storm or "wall-socket-less" outing find you without a setup like this. I write this as another 3-day blizzard approaches, confident this power-setup can get me through the expected "72-hour black-out".

PLEASE NOTE: Both the panel and the battery supply DC output. So if you plan to charge a laptop, make sure it accepts DC power (apparently some laptops like Dell will run off it, but not charge off it). If you have questions you should contact the folks at voltaic dot com before your purchase. There's an instruction sheet included, so it takes about 10 minutes to educate yourself on the full setup super straightforward. Just check the requirements of the devices you want to charge.

I liken this purchase to purchasing your first brand new vehicle.. you've done your study on the car and when you purchase for the first time you are nervous, anxious, and excited.. the same feeling applys to the purchase of this bag. . it exceeded what I anticipated.. theres nothing like walking around with electricity on your back to power your electronics. . 5 star rate! excellent!

I bought a very expensive gorgeous large leather tote. The leather is soft, the purse is very large and it turned into a black hole for all my stuff. I could not find a thing in there and could not stand it anymore. Since my purse is very large I decided to order this product because it is one of the largest organizer inserts. I know it is really meant for diaper bags but if it does the job, who cares! It is fantastic. It fit perfectly into my purse and it organized me immediately. There is a little section for anything I need. I keep my wallet in one section, my makeup in another, etc. I can see it all now and not have to fumble through to find something. It also stands up well enough so that my purse has more shape and does not collapse inward. I am looking forward to using this a lot. The only negative is that the material could be higher quality. I think it will hold up though for my needs.

The bag is just the right size and seems durable. The checkpoint-friendly feature means the bag opens like a clamshell and lies flat on an airport scanbelt. This is a super convenient timesaver for those of us who travel. It means one less thing I've to hunt down after the TSA scanning. Two things I think are neccesities, but were just skipped a cell phone pocket on the shoulder strap; a sleeve on the back near the bottom to slip the backpack onto a rolling luggage handle. There is a strap on the top for this purpose, but the backpack isn't secure when attached and moves off the luggage.

I bought this from Costco.com. Both the laptop and the separate folder compartments are a good size. The small pocket on top is great for keys, ipod, phone, etc. I like the side pockets for a water bottle and umbrella. It is fairly comfortable when fully loaded (heavy!). I travel a lot and the checkpoint friendly feature is a huge positive.

Cons -

Like another review, it would be nice to have a way to attach to a roller suitcase and a phone/ipod pouch on the strap.

It is a bit big to fit under some airline seats. (doesn't help that I fill it).

My main dislike is that the handle on top broke after I had it for about 4 months. I am working with Wenger on a replacement now. I hope they come through on the lifetime warranty.

Update-They came through with a new backpack. The process was very simple. I just needed to provide the product codes, receipt, several pictures of what was broken, $10 for shipping and fill out a questionnaire. Once I pal pal-ed them the money, it arrived about a week later. I didn' have to return the old one and be w/out. Very happy with their service.

I am mixed that I got the same one with the checkpoint friendly feature (plus) but think that the handle is a design flaw (minus) and will have to go through this again.

Did lots of research before buying this one & thankfully the research has paid off with this bag. The quality & the make of the bag is simply awesome kudos to Swiss gear.

The best part of the bag is the laptop section where the padding is done very nicely & it fits my 15.6" 9 cell battery laptop very smoothly. All other sections of the bags are very well laid out & there is ample of space for files/books. The shoulder straps are also comfortable since at first I felt the bag itself might be heavy & along with all my stuff the shoulder straps would be a bit uncomfortable but it turned out to be pretty good.

I give a strong buy for this bag!!!

I have traveled extensively with this bag, and it's holding up very well with very little wear compared to my old Dell bag. The tsa friendly laptop compartment makes the security hassle a little less painful. Plenty of compartments keep me organized, and I know exactly where everything is. Wonderful bag, if I had to buy a replacement, I would buy the same bag again.

I think this bag is great. It's a lot easier on my back than the previous one I was carrying and I feel like my 15" mac book pro is safe and secure. The main drawback is I am very limited w/ the number of case books I can squeeze in along w/ binders. I'm working around it and figure I probably don't need to carry 3 case books on my back anyway. Also the little flap thing over the top of the laptop section is unnecessary and gets in the way. But it's a great purchase and I recommend.

Sierra Designs Jubilee 50 Women's Backpack

I bought this pack elsewhere, for less, but that site doesn't provide a place for reviews. I've owned it for almost a week, and I still cannot decide whether I will keep it. As I am petite and small-framed, I do need a pack designed specifically for women. But Sierra Designs has seemed to want to reinvent Backpacks, just for women, with this particular design. I will first discuss the things that I definitely don't like. Firstly, the clips I find that they are too small and very hard to use. It's hard to get a good hold of them, and depressing them to release requires a lot of pressure from the tips of your fingers, which is awkward. They are rounded and streamlined so that the spring release part is not that well differentiated from the rest of the clip, and somehow requires a lot more pressure to depress less distance than a normal sized clip. One of the clips, just below the zipper, which holds the "super-size-me" pocket closed, is nearly impossible to get open because the body of the clip is affixed solidly to the pack material itself (and not from even the shortest of straps. So you literally have to use your finger tips to attempt to get it open. Add to that the slightest bit of fingernail, and forget it! It's a struggle, and I finally conceded that I would just have to lengthen the strap to access the pocket, rather than open that clip. But what if that clips breaks? how can it be replaced when it is mounted onto the pack body? My other peeve is with that same pocket. I've noticed that many of the packs for women now have this large outer pocket which has a clip and not a zipper, so that it is completely open to the elements. I don't get it... what should I keep in there? My fleece? My map and guide book? I hike in New England it's wet often.

Things I'm undecided and unsure about are 1)the highly molded hip belt and lumbar/back supports. I keep trying it on, filled and empty, and I can get it to feel OK, until I bend over. I guess it just might take getting used to but what if I can't? 2) the exposed central stay: I guess it's just bizarre seeing the internal mechanics of a pack exposed, and I wonder whether it'll increase the chances of the stay getting damaged. 3) A minor issue, but why must all women's packs come in girlie colors?

Things I do like: the way it fits around my shoulders, the support of the pack on my hips. The bottom isn't flat, which at first I wasn't sure about, but it does bring the weight higher up to the middle of the back which is good.

Things I would have liked: compression cord on the outside; clips that are easy to manipulate and use; more external pockets that CLOSE with zippers or that have flaps and clips. Traditional styling, yes but I don't agree that because one redesigns a pack to FIT women, that it has to abandon the tried-and-true features that make a pack user-friendly.

In all honesty, though I change my mind about it several times a day and have left the tags on just in case, I will probably keep it. If I had paid any more than I did ($99), It'd be going back. Hopefully it'll grow on me.

I use it everyday for college and it looks awesome. Really sturdy for those heavy cource books that they made us carry around!

I was uber-excited to find this bag online. It shipped really quickly and looked really cute. The zippers catch easily and from day one I was afraid they would break, however the straps beat them to the punch. I didn't even get to use this bag for a full week before both straps started to separate from the bag at the top of the backpack. I only ever carry a couple of notebooks at a time, so the load wasn't heavy by any means. I did have a history book in there one day, but when it comes to history books, mine is on the lighter side. I have sewn the straps back on and I hope they hold, but the material isn't really meant to be re-sewn, so only time will tell... I wish the bag had been better made since it is so adorable, or that the price had been lowernearly $40 is too much for a bag that can't be used.

Two days after I posted the above portion of this review one of the straps snapped off the bag and the zipper on the front pocket broke.

This backpack is super cute, seems to be decently well made. I don't think it will fall apart any time soon. HOWEVER I am embarrassed to carry it around and open it because of the nasty smell that it has. It's pretty fishy. I've been steadily trying to get the smell out and haven't been terribly successful. I'll keep trying because it really is adorable.

These little luggage tags are the best ever! I bought some at an airport store about 8 years ago and they're still like new. Right size for a business card to slide right in. Wanted some more for other pieces of luggage and couldn't find them anywhere until I happened to see the discrete "Belle Hop" name on one of the tags. Found 'em online and ordered several. One thing, though, I thought I was ordering from the same company when I selected the "circles" style in addition to the animal print, but no so as they gigged me bigtime for shipping/handling. It was just as described. Very sturdy with a fun zebra design. Be aware that though the photo shows both zebra and leopard designs, you are just getting the zebra.
