Swissgear 15.4" Burgundy Notebook Slimcase

I just got a new MacBook Pro 13-inch 2.66GHz for work (from work) that I wanted to keep in pristine condition. I didn't want anything dinging, denting, scratching, or scuffing the nice brushed metal exterior of the machine.

My current Victorinox messenger bag (kinda like this Victorinox WT Wide Messenger) was too big for such a small computer. The two or three 15", plastic-cased (and legitimately scuffable) PC laptops I'd previously carried in it fit fine even while carrying books or files files for work and school.

But now, my needs at work had shifted and my constant drives toward a minimalist lifestyle have dictated something new (yes, I see the irony in needing something more in order to have less). The Victorinox just tried to hold too much--the two disorganized exterior pockets on the flap had started to become catch-alls for crap that I really didn't need to lug around (e.g., useless pens, crumpled sticky notes, old receipts and food wrappers).

I decided I needed a laptop case that was

* small (but still versatile) -A simple sleeve wouldn't allow me to carry a blocky power adapter to and from work.

* portable -Again, a sleeve wouldn't let me hang it on my shoulder and still carry a coffee cup and use my iPhone at the same time.

* protective -I didn't want dings, dents, scuffs, or scratches, whether those were from something hitting through the bag or from the simple act of sliding the MacBook in with something else in the bag.

So, I asked work about getting a new bag (or protective sleeve or case), and they gave me the Sherpa (this product). Here's my run-thru:

* Size (PASS):

The exterior pocket is small enough to fit my minimalist sensibilities--the power cord and some pens fit, but it's size doesn't tempt me to stuff anything I don't need in it.

* Portability (PASS):

Even while small, still has both a shoulder strap and a pair of handles on either side of the zipper on the top. I can hang it on it's designated hook at home and it doesn't feel unwieldy or out of place on the wall.

* Protection (MODERATE FAIL):

The case is well padded, true. And the exterior is a wonderfully sturdy fabric, just what I'd want for the outside of a case or bag.

But the one problem, though (and the one that still gives me the most pause) is the interior lining of the bag.

It's nylon, not a soft fabric like fleece, velvet, or even neoprene--instead it's a scratchy-sounding, cheap-feeling nylon, like what you would imagine on any backpack or duffel bag. It doesn't inspire confidence in me that it won't slightly scratch or tarnish the finish on the MacBook.

A soft fabric would cradle the gadget and polish it slightly every time I slid it in or out, not rub it raw or make that horrible scratchy noise anytime something rubbed against it. A soft fabric would have some give so that, if I wasn't paying attention and tossed a pen or a badge or (heaven forbid!) my keys in there with the metal MacBook, it would cushion the contents instead of grinding them against each other.

Essentially, what I'm saying is this:

If you've got gadget that you don't care about scuffing (or have a sleeve to protect one you do), then this is a great minimalist case.

Though, if you want to protect the outside of your laptop, you might want to get a sleeve, too.

The Pavonis F114 reminds me of Fernando Lamas, an SNL character played by Billy Crystal who used "you look marvelous" for a standard greeting and whose motto was "it's better to look good than to feel good." The bag does look marvelous, no question about it and it does look a lot better than the average laptop bag. It's also a pain to use because it has a major design flaw.

THE BAD

It's probably fair to start with the bad part because if the the shoulder strap being always in the way whenever trying to get things in or out of the bag is a problem then there's not need to waste time reading about specs or the other good features.

The problem is that the wide, non-removable shoulder strap does not use D-rings or any kind of ring to connect itself to the bag's body. It always stands up on top of the bag's opening and that makes it very difficult to get it out of the way when trying to get things in and out. You must constantly move it out of the way and it keeps coming back annoying. Amazon's photos should give you a pretty good ideas of what to expect.

THE GOODS

The well-protected and generously padded inner compartment can easily host a 14-15" laptop. The main compartment has 2 large partitions, one for the laptop and the second with several zippered mesh pockets, detachable little purses, pen holders and so on. Two large side pockets off which one is zippered allow for even more versatility. And, when a little more room is needed, the zippered extension option allows for the bag to expand an extra 1.5" thicker, accordion-style.

I recognize the bag's versatility many pockets and the ability to expand it. I also liked the quality of materials and the generously wide shoulder strap. And the bag does look pretty.

MY RATING

In spite of all the good things I mentioned above, I hesitate between a one star (I hate it) and a two stars (I don't like it) rating because the shoulder strap interference with just about everything you do with the bag is THAT annoying. Sadly, the opposite of what seems to be the Case Logic motto: "Life, Simplified." applies in this case. The Pavonis is likely to complicate your life but it will probably make you look good. Which saves it the 'one star' rating.

Mammut Xeron Element Backpack

Nike BS0107 Air Backpack

This backpack is great for a non catcher. I can easily fit two gloves, a pair of cleats, helmet and a lot of drinks in this bag. Very easy to carry around.

This bag is not big enough for all my equipment, especially when you put your cleats in the bottom. Seems cheaply made. Bats would collapse and hit each other when one on each side. Not very sturdy.

Has two slots for bats; bottom compartment for cleats; small compartment for tape, black out, and small stuff; and large inside for gloves, sweatshirts, etc. He uses it every game and now I use it for my games too.

I just finished packing this Overton backpack for a 10-day vacation in Cancun. It now contains 1 pr. Teva Omnium sandals, 5 pairs cotton socks, 5 pairs briefs, 3 cotton T-shirts, 1 short sleeve cotton shirt, 3 Hawaiian nylon shirts, 1 pr cotton cargo shorts, 2 pairs nylon long pants, 2 nylon swimming trunks,1 bucket hat and a 9 x 12 folder full of papers containing information on Cancun. As a carry-on personal item I will have a fanny pack which holds my 1 quart TSA bag with liquids, and various toiletries, etc. The bag seems quite substantial and I discovered no rips nor tears while loading. I hope that this list will give travelers an idea of what the bag can hold.

I absolutely loved this back pack..that was until the front straps came out out of the seam. I carried my yoga mat on the back..it was absolutely perfect. I had it for less than a month before the strap broke. I was disappointed because I have not found anything similar yet.

So, I'm one of those "take your tablet, kindle, computer, charging cables, camera, medicines, etc with you" kind of guys, I was using a small tactical duffel but that started to wear out and I needed something for travel. After looking around I decided I liked the look of the Ful Overton, mine is black grey and blue. Wow!

Pros:

-breathable, less of the back sweat, yeah you know what I mean.

-tons of room and plenty of pockets, it hold a lot and you can keep it organized.

-stout construction.

-Ful is freaking awesome to deal with. My bag was missing the cell phone holder(missing when I bought it), no problem they just asked for my address and gave me a new one. I follow them on FB, They are GIVING THE BAGS AWAY as a back to school promo, so now I have 2 Overtons.

-handy pockets where you need them, between the mp3 pocket, the small assorted pockets, and the cell phone case, everything you need is always right at hand.

-padded well, no sharp jabs in the kidneys from the stuff you keep in the bag.

it is comfortable to carry, I've run through DFA(Dallas airport) with this thing stuffed to the seams trying to catch a connecting flight. it's very comfortable to take with you. the small straps on the front straps are great for clipping stuff to,cell phone cases, mp3 players, pocket knife, carabiner, keys.

Con:

-Doesn't cost as much as some alternatives, I know some of you lie to spend that extra money so people know you have excess disposable income...

-did not come with a hitch hikers guide to the galaxy.

-I haven't developed super powers, although it's spacious enough that I've started bringing work out clothes to work and those may be forthcoming.

so basically this is an inexpensive, high quality back pack that looks good. So if you set your expectations right this will blow you away.

I love this bag. Helps keep my supplies organized. I was having to get very creative when it came to transporting all my supplies with me. This bag lets me carry all my supplies in each of their spots as well as my laptop. Now this bad is designed more for the painter in mind, with plastic liners for wet brush heads, a pouch for long brushes as well as hanging pouch for shorter brushes. Two side pockets for bottles, spray cans, or other similar sized items. The straps for carrying can be used for carrying tubes. As a pencil, charcoal, and pastel artist, I've used the spaces for my own tools, and still have extra space. My laptop stores perfectly, and is well protected. Good thing since I wasn't paying attention and knocked the bad off my desk with it in it. No damage. I put my phone keys, knife, and few other items in one side pocket, and my can of fixitif in the other. My pencils I store in the interior removable hanging pouch, drawing pads and planner fit nicely, even with the laptop, and all my pastels are stored in the front pouches. I use the large paintbrush case for my laptop cord, and the front two half clear pockets for cables, cameras, and extra storage. I still have tons of space not used and when it's closed it doesn't feel really heavy. Great bag.

I had gotten a black one in hopes that it would hold everything I needed for class. My two books, a sketchbook, a lots of pens and brushes, but the bag itself is actually the majority of the weight I'm carrying, and it doesn't hold quite as much as it looks like it might because the hooks just aren't heavy-duty enough to handle what the bag itself can. The twisting nob will pop out from the hook and the metal latches that keep the hooks on break easily, mine is not the only one it has happened to here. I just think that, for the price, it could use a few make-overs. If you can modify the strap components to hole more weight, go for it! If not, look for a different bag.

...the shoulder strap didn't pull loose the first time I used it, the zipper pulls didn't turn sideways, and if the design didn't lead to a front heavy bag, causing it to not set up straight without futzing with it and causing the front of the bag to pull inward and downward.

That said, I am keeping it and will do a few modifications because overall I really like this bag. I think the zippers and hardware will wear out long before the bag parts do, but there is just something about it that makes me want to carry it. If you aren't willing to make a few sacrifices to have the organization that this bag offers, then I wouldn't buy it.

I doubt that I would buy it again, but it is here and I can't seem to send it back.

I've traveled all over SE Asia, Europe and Northern Africa with this as well as the PacSafe backback and hipsack, and am proud to say I've not even had an attempt made on my belongings (while having lost more than one bag in years past before I wised up to these). For some the weight may be an issue; it is nearly 2 pounds of dead weight to lug around. To this I reply: shave ounces elsewhere, where it makes more sense--pack lighter, lightweight rain gear, toiletries, accessories, etc., because the protection this affords is worth every penny and pound. As a side note, aside from urban theft-deterrence, the PacSafe also makes itself useful in many other scenarios--I've used it as a bear-bag while hiking on the Appalachian Trail, as a frame for mosquito netting in the forests of West Bengal, and as a great conversation starter in New York City.

Used this product to lock up a camera bag while traveling in Asia. I suppose someone could cut the cables with the right tools, but it was a handy way to secure valuables in my guest houses and felt somewhat more comfortable than just leaving them unsecured. Maids don't seem to carry cable cutters.

Convenient to use but it has one major flaw. The apetures are just too big to keep all but the biggest items from getting taken out of the bag. You either have to have another big bag inside your outer shell with your wallet and smaller items inside or you have to get a little padlock to put on your exterior zippers IF you have a bag with a two zipper pouch. With one pouch it just doesn't work. I will continue to use it until the next version comes along.

I chose the pink duffle bag because it showed TWO zippered pockets in the photo on Amazon, and I loved the color. The bag ONLY has one zippered compartment. I was disappointed when I saw this, I already have a Nike bag the same size with one zippered compartment I wanted two compartments. I just want buyers to BEWARE that the photos posted on Amazon are not accurate. Why they have the zoom in feature so you can see the bag in detail is beyond me. Just make sure you read the details on the bag carefully, it does state ONE pocket although they posted a photo of a bag that has TWO!!!

Also they state that the adjustable shoulder strap is padded I did NOT recieve one that is padded. I really feel as though I was ripped off when I purchased this bag . I really like Nike products but, am very unhappy with this purchase.

I'm so impressed! I talked to a REAL person, she was very kind and apologetic that I'd experienced issues, and she absolutely stood behind their product. March 2011 I just received this bag today and am in LOVE with it! My baby isn't due until May, but I have 3 other children and thus, lots of experience with diaper bags.

This diaper bag seems to have it all; numerous pockets that are well-placed and a good size (there are 3 large zippered pockets, 2 magnetic-closure pockets, 2 inner bottle pockets and 2 rectangular "sleeves" for diapers and wipes), sturdy straps and hardware, nice-size zipper pulls that are functional and not awkward.

The material feels much sturdier than I expected and has nice details. The changing pad (solid gray color) folds up and fits nicely inside the bag because it's NOT that stiff, plastic material you'd find in most diaper bags. I'm looking forward to using the different strap configurations, and they seem easy to move and switch around. The drawstring bag included to store the strap appendages is very sturdy and slips nicely inside the diaper bag without being bulky.

In summary...

Although I haven't put it to real, practical use, I have a good "gut feeling" about this bag, based on the numerous diapers bags I've owned and worn out in the past. :) Good quality, great organizing potential, sturdy hardware and of course, SUPER cute design in both shape and material. This bag gets a HUGE "two thumbs up" from me. It's my first time seeing a bag by "Bumble Bags", much less purchasing one but I am a believer!!!!!

UPDATE: THREE MONTHS LATER...

I LOVE THIS BAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our baby came in May, and I've used it every single day since then. I can get an amazing amount of stuff into it. I love the outside end pockets because they're great for slipping my phone and keys into. I have used the convertible straps several times and my favorite configuration is the one where I can attached the bag to my stroller, and it only takes 10 seconds to swap out the straps for that stroller option-REALLY easy to do and convenient.

The only, very minor issue I have with it is that the straps can cut into the shoulder and neck a bit, if the bag is particularly heavy, because they're made of seat-belt like material. I wish the makers of the bag had put a slide-able shoulder pad/protector on the strap. BUT, that being said, I woulld absolutely get this bag again. I get lots of compliments on it, and it's worth every penny!

I absolutely love this diaper bag and the print is adorable. I don't even use my purse anymore because this bag is so convenient and cute. I have two little girls and another baby on the way, so I wanted to get a diaper backpack to make things easier! I love that this bag is convertible so you can choose how you want to wear it. The metal rings on the straps are perfect for clipping your keys to and I use the magnetic-close pockets on each side for my cell phone, chapstick, and gum (in one pocket) and my diaper cream and hand sanitizer (in the other pocket). Very easy access. I also love the two pockets inside made for sippies or bottles. The two pockets on the inside for a travel case of wipes and diapers are also very nice. I have never had a diaper bag that made me feel so organized. :) Really couldn't ask for more...definitely worth the $$!

I ordered this bag hoping for a colorful, convertible bag with good organization and easy stroller straps. I was dissapointed with my skip hop duo deluxe (great stroller clips and pockets, good medium size for day use, but too hard to find anything in the main compartment once full) and I like my Timi and Leslie backpack covertible bag pretty well but it is definitely boxy and can be cumbersome when full. This bag is very pretty and is a good medium size but the opening is narrow and the bag is deep so I think it would be hard to fish out what you're looking for easily. The side pockets seem like they would be good for bottles but not much else because they are tall and narrow (I don't use bottles so they were no use to me), I did like that these had magnet closures though. The front and back pockets are roomy but didn't have smaller pockets for organization, so again, would be fishing around for what you need. The biggest issue I had with this bag was the material, it is supposed to be stain resistant but it seems like it would get dirty easily. However, I only loaded this bag up to see if it would work for me but never road tested it. I might have kept it if I had seen other reviews that stated it stayed clean (then again, I didn't see any that said it got dirty but there aren't many reviews on this at all right now). If you want a convertible bag with functional pockets for organization, and something that will stay clean / be easily cleaned, I'd go with the Timi and Leslie canvas collection backpack or tagalong (this is the best I've found so far after using the skip hop duo deluxe and a large laminated kate spade and after ordering, loading up and subsequently returning (without actually using) a bumblebag convertible and skip hop versa). Love everything about it, specially the different handle attachments. I will continue using past the diaper stages for sure because I love it. I use it now mostly for short trips for 2 babies and it holds everything i need. sometimes i wish it was a little bigger, but i hate big bags so i manage to always find a way to fit everything i need in it.

I first received this bag 5 years ago from my company and I love it so much I hunted and found it again! I travel almost every week and I love a bag that can handle a 3 day trip with no problem. I have owned a High Seirra wheeled carry-on for around 10 years. I fly over 50k miles a year and I have really liked the unit I had. That is why I choose to buy another from HS. This unit is of similar quality but does not have one pocket that is show in this picture. The little pocket on the top, adjacent the handle is missing. I know it's not that big of a deal but I want it, I thought I was getting it and it is missing!

I also don't really like the zipper operation as it relates to the "book style" opening. It is difficult at time to get the zipper around the internal frame at the bottom of the unit. The book style opening does allow for easier packing than my old one which is a plus. This pack does fit with ease in the smaller overhead compartments of many of Alaska Airlines older jets (747-400). This pack is often all I take with me on trips and it handles what I need well. When I do bring additional luggage the shoulder straps are very convenient!

High Sierra Scrimmage Backpack

I liked the bookbag. However, I am a college student and this bag is not able to hold very much at once. It looks awesome, but is a little too small and is not exactly comfortable up at the part that goes by the back of your neck.

I have used this backpack for a semester so far on campus. So far, it is entirely intact. Nothing is broken, ripped or torn. I carry a large amount of books including a 17" laptop which fits with a little room to spare. Various pockets provide storage for everything you could possibly use. The straps fit nicely once adjusted. The only drawback is the use of the 2nd largest pocket is unavailable when more than a couple books are placed inside as the books push into that pocket. Overall, it's a definite buy, especially for students with a large laptop.

i subjected this backpack to the same stress as my previous one, carrying gallons of milk and two liters of soda, and library books, and one of the straps is already ripping. such a shame because i really loved this backpack. the suspension strap system makes even the heaviest loads feel light, but if you're going to buy this backpack, don't overload it!

I have a 17.3" laptop and a 15" laptop. They both fit in this backpack in separate compartments. There is even room for a change of clothing, my ipad, and all the charging accessories! I was even able to stuff a roll of paper towels and there's still room to spare.

Mobile Edge SecurePack - 17.3"

I was desperate to replace my existing notebook bag, a solidly-made but very heavy briefcase with a strap that cut painfully into my shoulder. Although I knew that a backpack was a better solution than a briefcase, I wasn't terribly impressed with what my local Staples and Best Buy had to offer; their backpacks seemed overpriced and poorly designed.

Then I saw the Mobile Edge SecurePack in a PC WORLD print ad. What a lucky break! Although my local stores didn't carry it, I was able to get it through Amazon.com marketplace.

It's rare to find a product that fills a need as elegantly and beautifully as the Secure Pack does.

The elegance is in the way the Secure Pack prevents access to the laptop it contains WITHOUT locks or cables. The backpack can't be opened until it's taken off take it off, then simply reverse the straps over the rear of the pack and unzip it. The "lid" (actually the back) of the pack fans open to about 60 degrees, held open that limited amount by a nylon gusset web on either side. This prevents the laptop sleeve, which is directly attached to the inside of the back/lid, from slamming hard against the ground.

Inside the pack, in addition to the main compartment, there are the laptop sleeve and a second compartment piggybacked together and fanning out to 60 degrees with the same kind of side-gusset webs as the lid/back. The second compartment has a generously-sized, zippered mesh pocket inside, and loops, sleeves, and a small Velcro-flapped pocket outside the better to contain pens, pencils, pads, and other stationery, documents, and extras. The main compartment contains for cable storage two nylon-and-mesh zippered bags (each about the size of a small shaving kit!) with Velcro hook strips on their bottoms; they stick securely to the Velcro loop surface of the main compartment, but are easily detached when needed. In fact, the cable bags are so roomy that I store my webcam and its accessories in one bag, and my laptop power cables, still-camera-battery charger and camera-PC USB connector in the other. With my laptop, a laptop cooling pad, & all those cables stored in the backpack, I STILL have room to shove in a couple of heavy textbooks & zip the pack shut easily!

The SecurePack has two nice extra touches: the CD player pocket (with zipper closure hidden by a forked flap that is in turn held closed by two quick-release buckles along the straps) and the carrying handle that is perfectly set within the yoke of the pack straps (nicely balanced for off-the-shoulders carrying).

All these features, however, mean nothing if the backpack is too uncomfortable to wear for an extended time. After having worn the SecurePack fully loaded for several hours on several occasions, I can confidently say it is the best-balanced backpack I've ever worn: not the best-balanced computer backpack, but simply the BEST-BALANCED backpack of ANY type I've ever used. I don't know how its designers did it, but the fully-loaded SecurePack feels feather-light on my back; all the weight of the load balances beautifully on my hips and doesn't drag me down.

The SecurePack is not a quick-access or compact computer bag, but its name and features make that clear. It is a theft-proof, damage-proof laptop bag at a good price.

To sum up, the SecurePack is a beautifully designed product that fills a long-felt need: how to carry a laptop computer and accessories safely, securely, and without back or shoulder injury. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I really liked the look of this bag. I had been searching for a nice big bag for my 17" laptop. I saw this bag and liked the look. Thought the feature of not being able to open whill on the back was smart. However, I'm a college student and you don't have room for books when the laptop is in the bag. You barely have room without the laptop. It has a rounded bottom which is not condusive to carrying books. It is akward to get into from the back of the bag. Going from class to class, I have to get in and out of my bag all the time. It was too cumbersome with this bag. Really nice looking big bag though. If all you want is to carry your laptop and a few files this might work. Anything more is just doesn't work. Didn't want to return it. Good looking bag nice and big but not very functional

Okay, this was larger than I thought it would be, so I'm having some qualms about bringing this on the plane, since I usually put my bag under the seat in front of me. I'm a short girl, so this bag pretty much conceals my entire back. But I LOVE it nonetheless. It's sturdy, and actually has a lot of space to carry more than the laptop, my wireless mouse, and the adapter. I'm particularly in love with the fact that you can walk around with this bag and not be afraid that someone's already digging into your things.

Great backpack if you're worried about protection.

It even fits my monstrous 10 pounder laptop too.

the problem i have with it is that it is actually a little bigger than i thought it was going to be.

Part of the reason for this i believe is because it has a stiff ridge around it

which protects the laptop from minor bumps, but it makes the bag kindof wide.

Also despite it's medium/large-ish appearance, it really cannot hold much extra if my laptop, charger, and mouse are in there already

(given my charger is about the size of a brick).

It really won't hold much more than a 1 inch binder with all my other stuff.

Still, it's a nice bag if you don't need to carry 50 lbs of books, or whathaveyou.

I bought this backpack to carry my laptop and a few other items (folders, pens, portable disk, etc.) on my commute to work. I often ride in on my motorcycle, and I wanted a backpack that would be comfortable, secure and protect my laptop. The SecurePack is perfect and meets my needs completely. This bag is really soft leather. I would have liked it with a bit more padding for a laptop so its not so crushable, but I love it. Used it on travel as a carry on for things I needed to present my meetings and it was great. Also stands out so not to get swiped so easily from all the same colored bags in meetings as well.
